Chapter 11
byChapter 11
When Shen Hui carried Yan Gui into the hospital, Yan Gui's gland had already begun to differentiate.
Professor Zhao only needed one glance to draw a conclusion: "Omega."
"No," Shen Hui shot back with absolute determination. "Yan Gui absolutely cannot differentiate into an omega."
Shen Hui fixed him with an icy glare. "Do you think he's naturally differentiating into an omega?"
Professor Zhao was left speechless. He had conducted a genetic test right after Yan Gui was born, which showed a 95% probability of him becoming an alpha.
"But even so..." Professor Zhao struggled to find a rebuttal, but was directly cut off by Shen Hui.
"If he differentiates into an omega, I will kill him before the process completes."
His tone was deathly cold, leaving no room for doubt.
All of Professor Zhao's arguments were stifled by this statement. After a deathly silent standoff, he yielded.
"It's said that Catalyst 01, sealed in the research institute, can forcibly alter the direction of differentiation, but the side effects are severe."
"Will it kill him?"
Professor Zhao hesitated. "No, it won't, but there will be very noticeable long-term side effects."
Shen Hui cut him off directly. "Who has the drug?"
"Besides Young Master Chen, the backup access is with Professor Li."
That was the first time Shen Hui clashed with Professor Li.
Shen Hui led his men straight into the laboratory, catching Professor Li in the act of sexually harassing an intern. With Professor Li's pants down, Shen Hui hauled him off, pressing a Tang sword—unsheathed for the first time in three years—against his neck.
"Hand over the drug, or I'll kill you."
In the end, even Chen Shenzhi, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, could only watch helplessly as the drug was injected into Yan Gui's body.
For the first time, he lost his temper in front of everyone, shouting at Shen Hui, "Do you have any idea what you're doing?!"
"I know exactly what I'm doing," Shen Hui said, turning the blade and pointing it directly at Chen Shenzhi's throat. "If you lay a hand on Yan Gui again, I will kill you."
It was the exact same cold, sharp gaze Shen Hui had when he was a "blade." The hilt was in his hand, and now, that blade was aimed at its master.
The thought that Shen Hui no longer belonged to him struck Chen Shenzhi like a venomous snake biting his heart, filling him with rage and agony.
He had once thought this blade would fall into Yan Gui's hands, but in the end, no one possessed it. The blade had fallen into the filth of the abyss.
Just like now.
Chen Shenzhi scrutinized Shen Hui through the screen. He had expected the blade to decay or break, but instead, it had been tempered into something more resilient and beautiful.
Like a blade that could wrap around a finger.
Chen Shenzhi subtly swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbing.
Desire, fermented through suppression and unattainability, was the most delectable. He savored the taste of longing, speaking calmly.
"Didn't you anticipate this when you injected him with 01?" Chen Shenzhi let himself drown in Shen Hui's features through the screen. "No one understands the properties of No. 01 better than I do."
Shen Hui cautiously scanned his surroundings. "I don't trust you."
Chen Shenzhi nodded in agreement. "Because this sedative was originally prepared for you. When the surgery failed, I considered using 01 on you. Whether you believe it or not, I never once thought of abandoning you."
His expression was exactly the same as when he had taken Shen Hui from the orphanage at the age of six.
The young master from a wealthy family had turned into a ruthless devil.
Shen Hui felt not a ripple in his heart upon seeing his affectionate demeanor. "So why did you bring me here?" He cut off Chen Shenzhi before he could reply. "Spare me the reminiscing. You never do anything without a purpose."
Chen Shenzhi fell silent for a moment before breaking into a relaxed, cheerful smile. "A Hui, are we so in sync that it makes it harder for me to let you go?"
Shen Hui ignored the remark entirely. "It's about Yan Gui. You want to kill him."
Chen Shenzhi didn't deny it. "Over the past three years, he's been relentless in trying to destroy me. I ought to return the favor."
As soon as he finished speaking, a loud crash came from the entrance. The solid steel door caved in with a massive dent.
Chen Shenzhi raised his voice slightly, issuing an order to those outside: "Stop him, or don't bother coming back."
The young guard shifted into combat readiness, staring intently at the iron door—it would take at most two more hits to break it open.
Even with years of training and physical stats far surpassing ordinary people, he was shaken by this superhuman strength.
Shen Hui frowned, looking at the young man and the crumbling iron door. "He'll die."
"This is the punishment for trying to kill you," Chen Shenzhi said indifferently, even offering Shen Hui a friendly reminder. "Instead of worrying about others, you should worry about yourself. Yan Gui's frenzy is on the verge of spiraling out of control. How long do you think he can last under the influence of your pheromones?"
No sooner had he spoken than the iron door shattered into pieces. One of the fragments smashed through the screen, obliterating Chen Shenzhi's face.
The phone short-circuited amid sparks. Shen Hui looked up in shock at Yan Gui standing in the doorway.
A fiery aura instantly filled the entire space, locking him in place as if declaring ownership.
Their eyes met for the first time in three years. The ferocity in Yan Gui's gaze vanished in an instant, replaced by blank confusion, before being overwhelmed by the ecstasy of reunion.
He charged toward Shen Hui without a second thought, but the young guard seized the moment of distraction, sweeping Yan Gui's legs out from under him. Moving like lightning, he brandished a dagger, aiming for Yan Gui's vitals.
Yan Gui reacted instantly, rolling aside to evade the attack.
The two exchanged blows for several rounds. Though the young man was skilled in combat, he was no match for Yan Gui in raw strength. Within a few exchanges, Yan Gui grabbed his ankle, swinging him in a half-circle through the air before slamming him against the wall. Dazed, the young man tried to retaliate, but Yan Gui slammed him against the wall by the throat.
Yan Gui caught the scent of Shen Hui's blood on him. "You deserve to die."
The rage from seeing his lover injured shattered Yan Gui's already precarious rationality. His grip tightened around the young man's neck. The omega struggled desperately but couldn't loosen Yan Gui's hold. Amid the suffocation, he heard the sound of his cervical vertebrae being crushed.
"Yan Gui!" Seeing that he truly intended to kill, Shen Hui immediately shouted to stop him.
Hearing Shen Hui's voice, Yan Gui gradually regained his senses. Suppressing his killing intent, he tossed the young man aside like a broken sack and strode toward Shen Hui.
He rushed toward Shen Hui almost desperately, needing to confirm that he was real—not just a phantom that vanished with every midnight dream.
Since Shen Hui left, Yan Gui had dreamed every night of the operating room engulfed in flames, with Shen Hui standing bloodied at the center, accusing him: "Why did you mark me? Why didn't you save me?"
Why did you harm me...
And now, a living, breathing Shen Hui was right before him—so real it felt like a dream, making him almost afraid to touch him.
Shen Hui looked up at Yan Gui, who stood frozen in front of him, and sighed softly, knowing there was no avoiding it this time. "Get these ropes off me first. We can talk about the rest when we get back."
But Yan Gui remained motionless. Shen Hui gave him a puzzled look.
He watched as Yan Gui, with trembling hands, reached out as if sleepwalking and gently touched Shen Hui’s cheek. "Warm," he murmured.
Shen Hui retorted impatiently, "Of course I'm warm—I'm alive. Hurry up and—"
In the next moment, Yan Gui seemed to lose all strength, collapsing to his knees in front of Shen Hui. He wrapped his arms tightly around Shen Hui’s waist and buried his face in his abdomen.
Like a child who had finally found his way home, his heart was full of pent-up grievances, and he could only reassure himself through this embrace.
"It’s really you," Yan Gui whispered, breathing in Shen Hui’s unique scent—like an eternally frozen mountain, cold and vast, yet somehow as steadfast as silent mountains.
Shen Hui was stunned by this behavior. The Yan Gui he remembered was fearless, a thrill-seeker—a young wolf. When he first took over guardianship, the first time he was called to the school was because the kid had been in a gang fight.
Faced with Shen Hui’s questioning gaze, Yan Gui’s eyes had blazed with excitement. "They dared to take what’s mine. I’ll beat them every time they try."
Even after six years of teaching him to be patient and bide his time, the young wolf’s eyes still shone with that same determined look whenever he wanted something.
"I like you. Can I kiss you?" Back then, Yan Gui’s gaze had been burning and direct, full of possessiveness. Yet, when Shen Hui refused, he hadn’t been angry, confidently declaring that one day he would succeed.
Shen Hui had laughed and scolded him as a little brat, not taking it seriously. He knew that adolescent love was passionate and sincere, but also as fleeting as a night-blooming cereus.
Six years had passed since Yan Gui’s confession.
What did it feel like to be remembered so persistently by someone? Shen Hui felt a complicated ache, mixed with tenderness.
But he was never good at handling such straightforward feelings. Pushing down his mixed feelings, he softened his tone. "Why are you still acting like a child? Get up."
Perhaps soothed by Shen Hui’s pheromones, the terrifying ferocity brought on by Yan Gui’s rage gradually faded, and his emotions stabilized. Yet, he kept his face buried in Shen Hui’s chest, unwilling to let go.
"No. I’m afraid if I let go, you’ll disappear again."
Outside the abandoned building, police sirens wailed in the distance, and someone seemed to be calling his name from downstairs.
It sounded vaguely like Liu Fenghua.
Shen Hui instinctively glanced toward the corner where the boy had been lying unconscious, only to find that he had disappeared.
His gaze turned sharp, and he immediately called out to Yan Gui, "Where’s that kid?!"
Yan Gui didn’t particularly care about the young Ω’s condition. Though the Ω was tough, anyone he choked unconscious wouldn’t wake up without medical attention. But he always listened to Shen Hui.
Reluctantly, he lifted his head to respond, about to say it was fine, when a loud bang echoed, followed by the sound of a bullet piercing flesh.
The bloody bandage around Shen Hui’s neck fell onto Yan Gui’s face before drifting slowly to the ground.
Warm blood sprayed across his face.
In that moment, the entire world froze. All Yan Gui could see was the shock in Shen Hui’s eyes fading away, his head slowly drooping.
Yan Gui couldn’t hear his own voice. "Shen Hui?"
There was no response—nothing but the bright blood at Shen Hui’s neck.
The dark muzzle of the gun reminded him this was no dream.
In an instant, a wave of heat engulfed the entire building, the heat forcing the young man to stumble back several steps.
The suppressants wore off instantly. Yan Gui’s eyes turned crimson as he glared at the young man.
"I’m going to kill you."
Author’s Note:
Yan Gui: You killed my wife! I’ll make you pay in blood!
----------------------
Shen Hui: I’m not dead yet! Can you save me first?
Yan Gui: Oh.
Cue one murderous Boss Yan and an eye-rolling Butler Shen.
(Struggling a bit with the plot—feels like it’s not flowing right. Updates might be a bit off, but I’ll do my best!)
