Chapter 65 Something’s Wrong
by 云养喵Chapter 65: What's the Matter
The next day.
Qi Yanshen woke up right at 6:30 AM.
He instinctively glanced at Ji Anzhi on the other hospital bed, confirming the normal rise and fall of Ji Anzhi's chest before shifting his gaze away and getting up to move around.
By the time Qi Yanshen was done, it was past seven o'clock, and Ji Anzhi began to stir.
Just like last time, it took him a few minutes to come to. Seeing Qi Yanshen up and about, Ji Anzhi also attempted to get out of bed. He wasn't really hurt on the outside; according to Ji Anjue, he had only suffered a shockwave impact, which was why he was out for so long.
After they'd both moved around a little, at eight o'clock, Doctor Shenmu Yi came for the final check-up. Confirming that neither was seriously hurt and only needed proper rest, he sent them back to their dorm to recover.
This time of day, everyone else was in class, the Star Chart Department students too, so only the two of them quietly headed back to the dormitory.
Returning to the dormitory, which was so new it couldn't be any newer, Ji Anzhi was annoyed he'd have to put in a lot of work again. Fortunately, he had kept important items in his portable Space Bracelet as a precaution, so they were safe.
Ji Anzhi still chose his previous room. It looked exactly as it did when he first arrived at the military academy, even newer than when he'd first moved in.
His balcony's crystal panels were completely destroyed, his bed was gone, and his clothes, fabric, and accessories were nothing but scraps. Ji Anzhi took one look at the mess downstairs and decided to give up on trying to salvage anything, opting to just buy new stuff instead.
As for the money... he blew up the dormitory himself, what more could he say?
The military academy not making him pay for damages was already a stroke of luck...
Ji Anzhi suddenly remembered something and froze in place.
Where was Xiaoxue!?
Ji Anjue promptly chimed in: "Xiaoxue is with Chi Yan."
Learning that Xiaoxue wasn't lost, Ji Anzhi relaxed. He sent a message to Chi Yan saying he would pick up Xiaoxue at the cafeteria at noon, then began ordering crystal panels, a Cradle Bed, fabrics, accessories, and so on online.
Fortunately, he still had the previous data and purchase lists, so he just needed to send them over to the manufacturers to prepare the goods.
By twelve o'clock, when he was done, Ji Anzhi rushed to the cafeteria to pick up Xiaoxue. Taking the cat carrier from Chi Yan, Ji Anzhi almost wondered if Chi Yan had also stuffed Xiao Bai inside, as it was so heavy.
Chi Yan said sheepishly, "Um... I saw Xiaoxue likes meat, so I fed her some... maybe... she's gotten a bit chubby...?"
Ji Anzhi opened the cat carrier and stared thoughtfully at the solid white lead ball inside. Are you sure it was just 'some'?
And how did Chi Yan manage to feed her into this pig-like state in just three days?
Chi Yan also knew his excuse wasn't convincing, standing there blushing. Ji Anzhi sighed, shouldered the heavy cat carrier, and comforted Chi Yan.
Seeing that Chief Ji wasn't blaming him, Chi Yan immediately pulled Ji Anzhi aside to gossip: "Chief Ji, are you and that poker face really dating?"
Ji Anzhi countered, "Why do you think we would be together?"
Chi Yan looked around, making sure no one was around, then said indignantly, "Everyone says you and that poker face are dating! It's being spread all over the main channel with vivid details!"
Ji Anzhi had anticipated the rumors on the military academy's main channel. With such a big commotion, nearby students were bound to come check. And even through the Pheromone Isolation Rings, the alphas could sense the agitated pheromones. Plus, Ji Anjue mentioned that Qi Yanshen had carried him out of the ruins, disheveled, so these rumors weren't surprising.
Ji Anzhi explained to Chi Yan that it was just an accident that day. Learning that Chief Ji wasn't dating the poker face, Chi Yan, after Chief Ji left, single-handedly took on the crowd, angrily refuting the rumor-mongers.
Returning to the dormitory with the solid Xiaoxue, Ji Anzhi still wanted to marvel at how brand new the dorm was.
Leaving Ji Anjue and Xiaoxue in the room, the afternoon was spent busily tidying up the dormitory: reinstalling privacy crystal panels on the balcony, setting up the bed, assembling and placing shelves...
While Ji Anzhi was busy, Qi Yanshen was still pondering whether he actually liked Ji Anzhi. After much thought, Qi Yanshen decided to try talking to an omega. If he truly liked Ji Anzhi, he would definitely be particularly concerned about Ji Anzhi's reaction and wouldn't be moved by that omega.
But who to choose was a problem.
In the end, Qi Yanshen realized he didn't even have a preliminary candidate...
He didn't even need to give up halfway; he couldn't even get started.
So, Qi Yanshen still decided to let things take their natural course. If it's meant to be, it won't run away; if it's not his feelings, he can't force them to stay.
Opening his smart device, Qi Yanshen sent a message to his mother, asking if the reward could be given directly to Ji Anzhi. Qi Lan replied with a question mark a few minutes later.
The meaning was clear: What do you mean?
"Qi Yanshen: I messed up a bit."
"Mother: I know. Your father told me. Be prepared for a beating when you come back this holiday."
"Mother: Also, don't let me catch you having any scumbag alpha behavior, understand?"
"Qi Yanshen: Understood. So, can we give Ji Anzhi the starship reward directly? This was my fault. He doesn't want me to take responsibility, only made this one request."
"Mother: Is he still coming to help during the holiday then?"
"Qi Yanshen: No."
"Mother: You're not my son."
"Qi Yanshen: …………"
"Mother: The starship can be given in advance, but the person has to come. You figure it out."
After saying that, Mother Qi directly went offline and shut down. Forgive her for being annoyed at the sight of her son right now.
Qi Yanshen also knew his actions had offended his mother. Without explaining further, he took the potion his father had prepared for Ji Anzhi, knocked on Ji Anzhi's door, wanting to discuss it with him.
When the knock came, Ji Anzhi was still directing robots to install the privacy crystal panels. Hearing the sound, he went to open the door. The visitor was indeed Qi Yanshen. Ji Anzhi politely asked, "Is something the matter?"
Qi Yanshen took out a box of potions and handed it to Ji Anzhi, saying, "This is a potion my father personally developed after learning about your poor health. The side effects are smaller than before. Consider it an apology."
Although Ji Anzhi didn't know who Qi Yanshen's father was, his identity was certainly not ordinary. And personally developing it likely meant he was a capable pharmaceutical researcher.
Ji Anzhi accepted the potions and thanked him: "Thank you. If you need help with anything in the future, you can come to me."
Seeing Ji Anzhi didn't refuse, Qi Yanshen breathed a sigh of relief, then proceeded to discuss the starship matter with Ji Anzhi.
"I asked my mother. The starship can be given to you in advance, but you still need to complete the holiday task. Can you accept that?"
It could really be given in advance?
Ji Anzhi had only been testing the waters unintentionally, never expecting the reward could actually be sent early. Ji Anzhi thanked him: "I can accept that. Please convey my thanks to Commander Qi for her understanding. I'd like the long-range-class small warship—the Star Eagle. Is that possible?"
Qi Yanshen agreed: "Yes, that's within the scope of small starships."
With that matter settled, due to the previous incident, neither had figured out how to interact with the other yet, so they both tacitly bid farewell and returned to their rooms.
Ji Anzhi continued arranging his room, while Qi Yanshen sent a message to his mother to report, then retrieved a spare full-immersion simulation pod from his Space Bracelet. After setting it up and adjusting it, Qi Yanshen logged into the Star Network and headed to the Challenge Arena. This was a time when he needed more exercise to quickly calm down.
Thus, the Star Network Challenge Arena was particularly lively that day.
"What exactly are you trying to do?"
------------------------------------------------------------------
Lu Yan looked at the group of injured classmates and asked Qi Yanshen in confusion. Ever since recovering from that out-of-control rut, Qi Yanshen had spent the entire week picking fights.
Not a single student from the first and second years of the Command Department, Mecha Combat Department, and Starship Combat Department had been spared—except for himself, of course.
Qi Yanshen replied flatly, "Recovery workouts."
Lu Yan: "......"
Glancing at the ninety percent injured classmates beside him, Lu Yan really wanted to say, "You call this a recovery workout?"
After a moment of silence, Lu Yan said slowly, "Are you sure it's not because of Ji Anzhi?"
Qi Yanshen paused but immediately returned to normal, calmly stating, "Maybe a little."
Lu Yan looked at him with disdain. Even though he had never been in a relationship, even a fool could tell something was off with Qi Yanshen, let alone his childhood buddy.
"Do you like Ji Anzhi?"
Faced with Lu Yan's question, Qi Yanshen remained silent. He felt he should deny it, but whether it was because he didn't want to or because his subconscious from that out-of-control rut wasn't convincing enough, he didn't refute it.
Lu Yan was surprised. "You really like Ji Anzhi?" Lu Yan hadn't expected Qi Yanshen to be serious. The chances of an alpha and a beta lasting were slimmer than a snowball's chance in hell. Knowing his buddy, he wasn't the type to go looking for that kind of heartache.
"I don't know."
"Ah? You don't know?" Lu Yan was dumbfounded and hurriedly said, "Hey, wait, you don't even know if you like the other person? Don't tell me you've really sworn off love."
The more Lu Yan thought about it, the more he felt his buddy was clueless about love. Worried that Qi Yanshen might overthink things, he dug up a fragment of a relationship test he had seen ages ago from his memory and started asking Qi Yanshen questions. "I'll ask, and you answer. Just reply! First question: Do you think Ji Anzhi is good-looking?"
"Good-looking." Not stunning, but definitely not ugly.
"Second question: If Ji Anzhi and I were both in danger at the same time, who would you save first?"
"Ji Anzhi." If an S-rank alpha like you can get into trouble, it means you need serious extra training.
Lu Yan replied with some resentment, "...Third question: How would you feel if Ji Anzhi and I walked hand in hand?"
"Why would an alpha hold hands with a beta?"
Lu Yan: "......Whatever."
He gave up. Someone who had never been in a relationship wasn't fit to guide an alpha who's clueless about feelings. A true emotional idiot.
Qi Yanshen didn't understand why Lu Yan reacted that way. He wasn't wrong—alphas generally don't take the initiative to hold hands with betas. Besides, alphas usually only hold hands with their partners, except when they were children holding their parents' hands.
Lu Yan didn't want to deal with it anymore. After class, he went straight to eat, and Qi Yanshen followed, leaving a floor full of injured students and causing the medical team, who had just arrived, to swear a blue streak.
On the way, Qi Yanshen was still sure he was right. He met up with Jian Fuxu at the cafeteria entrance, and they went upstairs to eat. When they reached the third floor, Qi Yanshen immediately spotted Ji Anzhi sitting in a corner with Chi Yan.
Unlike when he was with them, Ji Anzhi never closed his eyes in their presence, not even for a short nap. But with Chi Yan, Ji Anzhi was resting with his head buried in his arms on the table, only his eyes visible, taking a quiet nap.
Qi Yanshen felt strangely upset, guessing it was because it was the first time he had seen firsthand how guarded Ji Anzhi was, which bothered him. He simply turned his head away to avoid looking.
It was indeed something to be guarded about. He should attend a few biological resistance training classes next week. A few more sessions, and last week's situation wouldn't happen again.
After sorting out his classes, Qi Yanshen and the other two ordered their meals. Lu Yan and Jian Fuxu also noticed Ji Anzhi in the corner, though not as quickly as Qi Yanshen—they only realized Ji Anzhi was sitting with Chi Yan after they sat down.
The two of them now had mixed feelings toward Ji Anzhi, especially Jian Fuxu. Ever since that time Ji Anzhi got drunk and pointed a gun at Lu Yan, he had been avoiding Ji Anzhi.
This couldn't exactly be called freezing him out—the scene had been too shocking. If it weren't for the fact that Ji Anzhi was his roommate and not a stranger, that shot wouldn't have hit his hand but his head.
However, after realizing that his buddy seemed to like Ji Anzhi, Jian Fuxu didn't know what to say and could only silently remain wary of Ji Anzhi.
Lu Yan, still oblivious, felt no fear about Ji Anzhi nearly blowing his head off. Instead, he was more concerned about whether Qi Yanshen really liked Ji Anzhi.
If Qi Yanshen truly liked Ji Anzhi, then there would be quite a show to watch.
But there was one thing Lu Yan had also noticed: Ji Anzhi didn't like Qi Yanshen. Lu Yan was the last to realize that there was a huge gap between Ji Anzhi and them.
So Lu Yan knew Ji Anzhi was really guarded, and people who are super cautious are difficult to get through to. This also made Lu Yan unsure how to act around Ji Anzhi.
Qi Yanshen could tell they were conflicted, but he was also confused and couldn't give a definitive answer, so he decided to wait.
Halfway through the meal, Qi Yanshen happened to glance toward Ji Anzhi and saw Chi Yan carefully putting his jacket over Ji Anzhi's shoulders.
*SNAP.*
Lu Yan and Jian Fuxu looked up to see Qi Yanshen's chopsticks snapped in half. They were about to ask what happened, but after following Qi Yanshen's gaze, they fell silent for a few seconds and continued eating.
It was best not to get involved in such matters, or they'd end up making enemies all around.
Chi Yan was sharp enough to notice the hostile gaze and turned to see it was Qi Yanshen. Suddenly, an urge to get back at him arose.
Chi Yan gave Qi Yanshen a sweet smile, then leaned down and kissed Ji Anzhi's forehead. When he looked back at Qi Yanshen, his eyes were full of provocation, as if staking a claim.
Chi Yan even took it further with a silent taunt.
"Ji, the, top, student's, favorite, person..."
He paused for a second, the smile on his lips growing even sweeter.
"Is, me, oh~"
After saying this, he curled his lips into a shy smile.
Qi Yanshen vowed he'd never hated an omega more before. No matter how good-looking or sweet they were, it didn't stop him from wanting to give them a beating.
What kind of omega likes a beta?
Isn't it painful toughing out their heat?
Weirdo.
Oblivious to his own hypocrisy, Qi Yanshen's face turned frosty. He looked away, out of sight, out of mind. Later, he should remind Ji Anzhi to learn how to spot a 'green tea' omega.
As for the person who started all this, he didn't know whether he should wake up or not...
When Chi Yan covered him with the jacket, Ji Anzhi was disturbed enough to wake up a bit. He had planned to sleep a little longer, but feeling the touch on his forehead, he was wide awake.
Ji Anzhi couldn't figure out for the life of him what Chi Yan was trying to do. He was certain Chi Yan didn't have a crush on him—it felt more like an older brother's affection. So why did he kiss him!
The few people who accidentally witnessed the scene were deeply shocked by the drama of an alpha and an omega competing for a beta, whispering about it among themselves.
Thank you for the new chapter ~ Oooohhhhh, Qi Yanshen is in troubleeeee
