Chapter 127 There Was Never Money in Your Card
by 盐味荔枝Chapter 127: There Was Never Any Money in Your Card to Begin With
Lu Caiyun looked coldly at the three disheveled, panic-stricken figures across from her. "All of you, go back. Our two families are officially severing ties. From now on, we go our separate ways."
With that, without another glance at them, Lu Caiyun took Xiao Zhao inside and shut the courtyard door.
Xiao Zhao immediately flew in front of Xiao Kui, gabbling away in beast language to recount the events.
The beast language gave a vivid, play-by-play account of what had just happened.
Xiao Kui stomped its front paws on the ground. "Watch me!"
Xiao Kui shrank in size, leaped over the wall from the backyard, and quickly slipped into the tall grass.
Seeing those three troublemakers still hadn't left the doorway, it excitedly wagged its tail.
"Take this, villains!"
Baring its gums, it let out a fierce growl before charging forward, biting each of the three of them once, drawing blood with every bite, then strutting away triumphantly.
"Ah! Get away, you mad dog!"
"Whose dog is this? Pay up!"
"Rabid mutt! God, that hurts!"
"Somebody kill it!"
The Lu family could only watch helplessly as a small black dog, after biting them, darted straight into the grass ahead and vanished.
Just then, a middle-aged man emerged from the woods leading a cow. Hong Heyang finally saw someone and hurriedly stopped him, waving her hands as she asked, "Do you know who owns a small black dog, about this size?"
The middle-aged man replied, "Folks around here keep yellow or white dogs. A black dog? No one keeps such a small black dog. The one you encountered was probably a stray from the village."
"You got bitten by a dog? That stray's probably crawling with germs. Someone in the neighboring village got bitten by a dog, didn't get the shots and died."
The three people before him were all bald, their faces dirty with black smudges, a bizarre sight.
The middle-aged man shook his head. "What weirdos have come to the village today..."
"Must've been the stray seeing strangers..."
Just as Hong Heyang was wondering if she should search the grass for that stray dog to make dog meat soup tonight, she suddenly heard Dong Laiyin's panicked voice.
"Son, son! What's wrong with you! Say something!"
Hong Heyang also turned to look at her husband and found him deathly pale, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
She looked down and saw that Lu Taifeng's injured foot had coincidentally been bitten again by the stray dog and was bleeding.
Hong Heyang shouted, "The hospital! Quick! To the hospital!"
Dong Laiyin, with her injured hand, used her left hand along with Hong Heyang to manhandle Lu Taifeng into the car, nearly dropping him in the process.
Once in the car, Hong Heyang hurriedly drove to the hospital, the matter of stray dog meat soup completely forgotten.
This hospital trip ran up another hefty bill because, not knowing if the stray had rabies, they all received rabies vaccinations.
Additionally, Dong Laiyin's hand needed bandaging, and Lu Taifeng's infected wound required hospitalization.
Lu Taifeng, still shaken, said, "Mom, Heyang, that bird spat fire, did you see it?"
Both Dong Laiyin and Hong Heyang shook their heads. They had their backs to Xiao Zhao at the time and didn't see.
Lu Taifeng insisted, "How could you not see? Our hair was burned off by that bird's fire!"
Hong Heyang gritted her teeth. "It was definitely that damned bird toting a burning stick that set it!"
This was the "truth" Xiao Zhao had planted in her and Dong Laiyin's heads, but it hadn't done the same for Lu Taifeng, leaving him awake to see the actual truth.
Dong Laiyin said, her heart aching for him, "Son, you have a fever."
"No! It was the bird breathing fire! Why won't you believe me!" Lu Taifeng firmly believed the bird had breathed fire, roaring endlessly like a fool.
To calm him down, Dong Laiyin could only say, "Yes, yes, you're right."
Lu Taifeng continued to roar, "You still don't believe me!"

Hong Heyang looked at the Red Membership Card in her wallet and had an idea.
Since the two families had burned their bridges and were no longer on speaking terms, she might as well go withdraw all the money from the card. She had been thinking about it for a while anyway.
The next day, Hong Heyang slathered on heavy makeup and wore a dark blue wig.
She stood admiring her handiwork in the mirror, muttering to herself, "Now no one can recognize me, right?"
The next second, she thought of the bald head beneath the blue wig, her face twisting viciously. "Damn bird! If not for it, I wouldn't have to wear a wig!"
"I'll kill it someday! And that damned stray dog too!" The place where the stray dog had bitten her throbbed faintly. It was all the Jiang family's fault.
Half an hour later, Hong Heyang, in full disguise, appeared in front of the Xuehe stall.
She slapped down a Red Membership Card and a bank card, saying coldly to Ji Fu, "Server, help me withdraw all the money from this card and transfer it to this bank card."
Ji Fu calmly took the customer's cards and placed the membership card into the card reader.
She gave the customer a strange look. "Refunds require the ID card of the membership card holder. Also, there is no money in your card to begin with."
"Impossible! There must be money in my card!" Hong Heyang frowned deeply. The next moment, she glared at Ji Fu. "Did someone steal my money? Check for me!"
"It must be that Jiang woman who withheld my money! Check the records quickly!"
Hong Heyang's voice was loud, drawing Jiang Yingxue's attention.
Jiang Yingxue narrowed her eyes, thinking this heavily made-up woman looked very much like the bride Hong Heyang from the wedding day, and the bone age matched too.
Remembering the phrase "no money in the card," Jiang Yingxue walked over and swapped places with Ji Fu.
Jiang Yingxue met Hong Heyang's gaze with a cool look. "This card was given for free. There was never any money in it to begin with."
She gave a slight smile and continued, "The reason other people's Red Membership Cards have 500,000 yuan is because they deposited 500,000 yuan."
"Miss Hong, this is your first visit today. Without depositing any money, where would the money come from?"
"The Rainbow Card given to you that day had 20,000 yuan in it, but you apparently looked down on it."
A flicker of surprise crossed Hong Heyang's eyes before her face turned cold again. "You recognize me?"
Jiang Yingxue said, "Your whole family has been eyeing my stall, came to cause trouble yesterday. It's hard to forget."
"Since the relationship between our two families is severed, I'll destroy this empty card. After all, your entire family is on my blacklist—you wouldn't be able to get anything even if you tried to buy it."
Not deactivated, but destroyed.
Jiang Yingxue crushed it lightly in front of her, the entire card turning to powder swept away by the wind.
"Hong Heyang, if you want to make trouble, I don't mind tearing off your wig right here and letting everyone see your bald head."
The wounds left by Xiao Zhao and Xiao Kui on them would cause lifelong pain unless treated with spiritual medicine or they found someone to expel the Malignant Qi.
Since they'd already been taught a lesson, she saw no need to act. But if they remained obstinate, she'd still deal with them.
"Damn you, Jiang!" Hong Heyang slunk away.
She was terrified by Jiang Yingxue's strength in crushing the membership card barehanded. With so many people on the street, it would be too humiliating if acquaintances saw her bald.
