Chapter 35: Do You Like the Demon Realm

In the middle of his sleep, that familiar heat spread from his lower belly all through his body.

Xie Huanxiang crawled out of his nest, half-asleep, his fur soaked with sweat, sticking damply to him.

He had to switch back to human form—at least humans didn’t have all this fur—it’d be way cooler.

Didn’t his brother say the heat cycle was just one night? So why was he feeling this awful again?

All Xie Huanxiang could think about was that big male demon’s cool, heat-soothing tail. His fingers trembled as he fumbled at his waist, but the more he rushed, the harder it was to get the pouch open. In his panic, he accidentally undid his belt.

His robe slid off his shoulders, hanging loose on his arms, as fine beads of sweat kept sliding over his prominent shoulder blades, soaking the clothes under him.

He was already miserable, and now his temper flared. Xie Huanxiang scowled, yanked the pouch off, and threw it on the ground.

After throwing it, he regretted it immediately. He curled up, wrapping his tail around himself, and started to sob quietly.

It was all his brother’s fault, all that big demon’s fault!

    He felt so awful.

Xie Huanxiang cried and wiped his tears, his slender body tossing restlessly. His robes slipped lower, barely covering his waist, hiding the plump flesh of his thighs.

As his mind grew hazy, he reached back to brush the hair stuck to his neck, only to touch that cool, smooth bone whistle.

It was carved from some unknown bone, even colder than the big demon’s tail.

Xie Huanxiang bit the bone whistle, his burning tongue pressing against its cool hole. A wisp of hot breath passed through the whistle, making a faint sound.

Frustrated, he threw the bone whistle aside.

    It was all Wuliu’s fault.

Xie Huanxiang closed his eyes—the worse he felt, the more he wanted to cry.

He even thought of copying what the big demon had done that night to ease his pain. He licked the sweat off his lips, his eyes reddening with urgency, his hands fumbling aimlessly between his legs, totally lost.

“What are you doing?” a man’s hoarse voice came from the edge of the bed.

A hand lifted the bed curtain. Through the gauze, the little fox spirit, pale and thin-backed, was curled up on the bed, his prominent shoulder blades exposed in the night, trembling faintly like they were glowing.

He had no clue what he was doing. One hand groped cluelessly toward the inside of his thigh. He turned his head, looking dazed at the man.

Wasn’t he blowing Wuliu’s bone whistle? Why did the big demon show up instead?

“I didn’t use the fragment,” Xie Huanxiang muttered to himself.

“This is the demon realm,” the big demon said, grabbing the clothes draped over him to wrap him up. “No fragment needed.”

Xie Huanxiang was lifted onto the man’s lap, struggling as he was dressed, his brows furrowed. “Can’t you see I’m uncomfortable? Hurry up and bring out your tail.”

The big demon paused for a few breaths, then let out his tail, covered in smooth scales. Just as it was about to wrap around Xie Huanxiang’s tail, a red light flickered on the little fox spirit’s wrist. The moment it touched, a big patch of scales on the big demon’s tail burned off.

Xie Huanxiang didn’t see it; his head was buried in the big demon’s chest, rubbing restlessly. After a while without feeling the cool tail wrap around him, he urged impatiently, his usually soft voice hoarser than usual, “Why isn’t it done yet? I’m dying here.”

“It’ll be done soon,” the big demon said, flicking his tail to shake off the loose scales. The tip, wrapped in demonic energy, forced its way through the red light to coil around the little fox’s soft, fluffy tail.

“And my hands,” Xie Huanxiang urged.

The wetness beneath him had already soaked the man’s legs.

“Mm,” the big demon responded lowly, his fingertips parting the hem of his robe.

Xie Huanxiang buried himself in the man’s arms, his cheeks flushed, biting his lip, his shoulders trembling slightly under the robe.

After a while, his delicate brows finally relaxed. He went limp in the man’s arms, though his thighs bore several rings of finger marks.

“Brother said the heat cycle makes you want to court, but it’s fine as long as you kiss and touch a bit,” Xie Huanxiang looked up at the big demon’s face beneath the hood. “Can you teach me how to do it? That way, when you’re not around, I can ask someone else to help.”

“Can’t teach,” the big demon refused him for the first time.

Xie Huanxiang pursed his lips. “Why? Do you think I’m stupid? You can’t think I’m stupid—if I didn’t visit your dreams, you’d just be a lonely demon with no one.”

“I’m the stupid one,” the big demon said, his broad hand resting on Xie Huanxiang’s lower back. “I don’t know how to teach.”

“Fine,” Xie Huanxiang turned his head, catching sight of the big demon’s tail tip, now bare and bald.

The spot without scales was even bleeding.

    “What happened to your tail?”

“Don’t worry about it,” the big demon said. “Why isn’t your brother with you?”

“Brother has very important things to do,” Xie Huanxiang thought of something and asked curiously, “Are you a powerful demon too? Do you live in the demon palace? I heard all powerful demons live in palaces.”

“I don’t live here for now,” the big demon said softly. “Do you like this place?”

Xie Huanxiang nodded. “It’s very pretty here, with lots of beautiful stones. But that demon lord is really annoying—I don’t like being a guest in his home.”

Of course, it wasn’t as nice as his fox den.

“The demon lord is annoying, so just replace him with another,” the big demon said, pulling his hand back from Xie Huanxiang’s robe and casually flicking off the droplets of water.

Once Xie Huanxiang had recovered enough, he didn’t want to sit on the big demon’s lap anymore.

The man’s legs always dug into him, making him uncomfortable.

He climbed back onto the bed from the big demon’s lap, picked up the smallest red fox baby from the pile, and held it out with both hands to the big demon. “This is your reward.”

The big demon took it, silent for a long moment, then asked, “Do you often give these to others?”

“No way,” Xie Huanxiang wouldn’t admit it—he only knew how to make fox babies, so that’s all he could give. “I’ve only given one to you. Don’t be ungrateful!”

The big demon said flatly, “I saw Wuliu had one too.”

“His is smaller than yours—I only gave it to him because I didn’t want it!” Xie Huanxiang snatched the fox baby back, speaking with righteous indignation. “I should’ve given it to him instead of you—he’s much more obedient than you are.”

The big demon’s usually expressionless lower face seemed to curve into a faint smile as he reached to grab the fox baby back.

Xie Huanxiang’s eyes widened. He lifted his foot and pressed it against the man’s shoulder, pushing him away, clutching the fox baby protectively to his chest.

Just then, a figure stopped outside the palace door.

“My brother’s back,” Xie Huanxiang said, feeling inexplicably guilty—even though the man had only helped him through his heat cycle. He shoved and pushed the big demon, stuffing him under the bed.
