Chapter 56: End of Main Story

The pure black tie let no light through, and Fei Yu was in complete darkness, unable to see anything. He could only rely on instinct, slowly step forward.

The hand clasped in Song Ji's was his only connection to the world.

The man walked very slowly, carefully holding his hand, leading him to the underground parking lot.

With a click, the car door clicked open, and the familiar scent of grass and wood that enveloped him from the car slightly eased Fei Yu's nerves.

Guided by the man, Fei Yu sat down in the passenger seat.

Because he couldn't see, his hearing and touch became more acute.

When Song Ji leaned down and pulled the seatbelt over his shoulder, Fei Yu could clearly feel his breath on his neck.

The man's warm breath fell on that patch of skin, which soon began to tingle with sensitivity.

Fei Yu bit his lower lip, shifting, feeling uncomfortable.

He turned toward the driver's seat, his voice tinged with confusion and curiosity: "Where exactly are we going?"

They even had to go out—how big of a surprise was this?

Another click, and the driver's door shut.

Song Ji's voice, tinged with a smile, reached his ear on the wind: "We'll be there soon."

The car sped forward faster than usual, the engine roaring.

The cool night air rushed in through the window, messing up Fei Yu's hair, and his rapidly rising temperature cooled down somewhat.

Sneaking away from Suisui, going out late at night—was this what the human stories called "elopement"?

A faint, almost imperceptible curve appeared on his lips.

If the "accomplice" was Song Ji, doing this once in a while wouldn't be bad.

After what seemed like ages, the car finally came to a stop.

The passenger door opened from the outside. Fei Yu impatiently reached out to pull off the blindfold from his eyes, but the man's long, slender fingers grabbed his hand first.

Song Ji bent down and kissed his restless fingers, giving a formal hand kiss.

Fei Yu puffed out his cheeks, pretending to pout, and withdrew his hand: "Not yet?"

    "Very soon, baby."

With a click, the safety buckle clicked open.

Song Ji seemed to be very close; his laughter brushed his ear, his breath gently stirring the fine hairs by his ear: "Baby, if you don't want to walk—"

Before he could finish speaking, Fei Yu felt his body suddenly lifted off the ground.

The man's large hand firmly pressed on his waist, while the other hand smoothly supported his knee, effortlessly lifting him out of the passenger seat.

Fei Yu couldn't help but let out a short gasp, his feet dangling in the air and kicking a couple of times, his arms tightly wrapping around Song Ji's neck.

Song Ji kissed his lover's hair and said in a low voice, "I'll carry you there."

Fei Yu's face was bright red, and he rubbed his fluffy hair against his chest, mumbling softly, "I'm not Suisui."

Song Ji's chest rumbled with laughter, as though the person in his arms was the most precious treasure in the world. Every step he took was extremely careful.

Soon, Fei Yu felt the man carry him into a confined space.

The steady ascent gave him a slight floating sensation, and Fei Yu realized they had entered an elevator.

He hugged Song Ji's shoulders and rested his head contentedly against his chest.

The man's breathing was steady, and even after carrying him all the way, he didn't show any signs of strain.

Because his eyes were covered, Fei Yu couldn't see his expression, but he could feel that Song Ji's heart was beating very fast.

    Just like his own.

The Catfolk couldn't help but let his thoughts drift.

Had Song Ji rented a restaurant, prepared a candlelit dinner, or was he planning to set off fireworks again?

A deer crashed around in his chest, hammering so hard it nearly leaped out of his throat.

Fei Yu almost wanted to speak up and tell Song Ji not to bother preparing anything, because he would say yes no matter what.

After who knows how long, they stepped out of the elevator, and Song Ji finally released his hand, setting him carefully on the ground.

The man stood behind Fei Yu, his breath falling on the back of his neck.

    "All right."

As the words fell, the tie covering his eyes was pulled off.

Having been in darkness for too long, Fei Yu's eyes took a moment to adjust to the sudden light.

His long, slender lashes were slightly damp, and his vision was blurry.

When his unfocused eyes finally focused again, Fei Yu's eyes widened in disbelief.

He was in a spacious, bright room. The carpet underfoot was soft and comfortable, and a crystal chandelier hung in the air, casting a soft light.

The wind gently lifted the curtains, and the spires of tall buildings outside melted into the hazy night.

This was no restaurant; it was clearly the room where they had stayed three years ago during Zhou Qian's birthday party.

Fei Yu was completely stunned. His feet felt like they were stepping on cotton as he drifted lightly into the bedroom.

The luxurious big bed still lay there quietly, and the room's decoration was unchanged from three years ago.

But on the bedside table, which had been empty before, there was now something placed on it.

Fei Yu walked over and saw that it was an open diamond ring box. Inside the dark blue velvet lining, a cat-shaped diamond ring lay quietly.

And under the ring box, there was a note filled with handwriting.

The handwriting hugged the lines tightly, with rounded corners at the edges. Every stroke was written clearly with effort.

"Song Ji, the coffee shop where I work is going to close down. I need to go home first. I left in a hurry and didn't wake you up. Don't worry, I should be back soon."

"Also, Zhen Zhu found out about your neutering plan. He is very angry and told me to tell you to reflect quickly, or else don't expect to see him easily."

Signed, Fei Yu, June xx, 20xx

Fei Yu pulled out the note, his fingers still trembling.

Song Ji imitated his tone and handwriting, perfectly replicating the note he had left three years ago.

And this was not the end; behind the message, two more lines were added.

"Okay, I'll wait for you. There's something I want to tell you in person."

"Also, I will reflect deeply on my actions. Apologize to Pearl for me. I'm really sorry for deciding the fate of his bell without permission."

Signed, Song Ji, June xx, 20xx

It felt as if time had suddenly returned to three years ago.

Song Ji had received his note, without misunderstanding, and they hadn't separated.

And soon, a new life would join theirs.

They might be surprised, confused, at a loss, worried, but would also feel immensely happy and fulfilled because of this new life.

Fei Yu couldn't help but want to laugh, but tears came before the laughter.

A shadow fell before him; Song Ji had come to his side at some point, gently wiping away his tears with his finger.

The man's dark eyes were as dark as ink, with the same intense emotions surging in his gaze.

"I once thought that day would forever be a disaster for me."

He paused, a smile slowly spreading on his face, "But thinking that Sui Sui came into this world because of it, I feel grateful for that night."

    "Fei Yu, I love you."

"Are you willing to accept this marriage proposal that is three years too late?"

He took Fei Yu's hands, his smile deepening: "Let me protect you and Sui Sui forever, until you are a 100-year-old Catfolk, and I'm a 100-year-old human man."

Fei Yu looked at Song Ji in front of him; even though he knew the answer, the man's eyes still held a hint of apprehension.

He suddenly threw himself into Song Ji's arms, happy tears falling from the corners of his eyes.

    "I do."

Three years ago, he wanted to be part of Song Ji's family.

And now, the Catfolk also wanted to greedily become Song Ji's only lover.

The wedding was set on a clear and beautiful day. White roses adorned the entire lawn, with rich fragrance floating in the air.

Cats of various colors sat expectantly in their seats, sharing the audience with humans.

The two newlyweds wore matching white suits, holding hands in the rose bushes.

To the sound of the wedding march played on the piano, Sui Sui, dressed in a black and white uniform, made a grand entrance.

Little Meow held his head high, eyes round and bright, with a black bow tie on his chest, like an adorable little gentleman.

He smiled obediently, showing two dimples, holding the ring box, and walked briskly towards the fathers at the end.

The newlyweds exchanged rings. Song Ji knelt on one knee, slowly sliding the ring onto Fei Yu's left ring finger.

A perfect fit, never to be separated again.

After the vow ceremony, the tabby cat, acting as the officiant, waved his hand and solemnly announced.

"Now the newlyweds and all guests present can kiss the important loved ones in their lives."

With that, he raised the coffee cup in his hand and kissed it without caring about appearances.

Zhou Qian held Drumstick and DunDun on his lap and kissed each cat on the forehead.

Drumstick and DunDun stared at each other, then rubbed their wet noses together.

Father Song kissed Jiang Yunru, who was beside him, and BenBen also wagged his tail and moved closer; Ms. Jiang, who was filming, doubled over laughing.

Nudged by Song Yao's elbow, Song Chen joined him in kissing their mother Song Lanyu's cheek, and she responded with a loud kiss.

Pure white rose petals kept falling, like light snowflakes dancing in the air.

At the center of the crowd's attention, Song Ji and Fei Yu lifted Sui Sui together and each kissed the little cat on his soft, round cheeks.

Then, a white veil drifted down from above them; Song Ji reached out and covered Sui Sui's eyes and kissed his lover's lips again.

The cheers and applause of the guests seemed to fade away in an instant.

A distant, clear voice rang in both their ears, "Meow, I almost missed it."

"I am very satisfied with this celebration. Since it's your wedding, I want to give some gifts."

"Ahem, by the way, tell Sui Sui the strawberry-flavored jelly's pretty tasty—bring more next time, meow~"

Jingle jingle, the crisp sound of a bell came from somewhere unknown.

Long-sealed memories seemed to burst open their floodgates, flooding towards this deeply kissing couple like a tide.

The face of that boy from over a decade ago—who found the little white cat and gave him a home—finally became clear.

Young Song Ji named him "Pearl" and treasured him as a jewel.

Years later, when they met again, Song Ji, who had lost his memory, subconsciously called out the same name: "Pearl."

Fei Yu soon tasted bitterness on his lips; his eyelashes fluttered violently, and he couldn't help but open his eyes.

His vision blurred; Fei Yu realized he was already in tears.

Song Ji, standing before him, was not much better off, his dark eyes brimming with tears, meeting his gaze through blurred vision.

After a while, he saw a smile slowly appeared at the corner of his lips.

The man kissed away the tears from the corners of Fei Yu's eyes and pressed his forehead against Fei Yu's.

    "Long time no see, Pearl."

It turns out that my love for you was imprinted on my soul.

Even if I lose everything, I'll always remember to love you.

Fei Yu laughed through happy tears and rubbed his nose against his lover's nose, "Long time no see, Song Ji."

Suisui looked left, then right, giggled, and snuggled up to her two dads: "Long time no see, Dads!"

Fate takes its twists and turns, and the fork where the red thread diverged once again reconnects into a perfect circle.

From beginning to end, we've always had each other.

And we will never be separated again.
