Chapter 25: What Should He Do?

Pei Du knocked on the door for a long while without receiving any response.

When he pushed the door open and entered, this was what he saw.

A gray blanket was draped over that slender figure, who seemed to be pretending to be asleep—but judging by the rise and fall of the blanket...

    "Wife, are you asleep?"

    Still no answer.

Hidden under the blanket, Chu Lanting clearly heard footsteps approaching.

The heartbeat he'd barely managed to calm moments ago now quickened again at the sound of those footsteps.

Beneath the blanket, he furrowed his brows. Feeling the edge of the bed sink down, his impulse to throw off the blanket and tell the other to leave froze in that instant.

The next instant, the blanket over him was yanked away.

    "Wife."

A rough fingertip pressed against his bitten, split lip.

Chu Lanting instinctively frowned at the touch, and even though his eyes stayed shut, his lashes began to tremble violently.

Pei Du took in the scene, and the young man's pitch-black eyes grew even darker.

Tossing the blanket aside, he climbed onto the bed and immediately pulled him tightly into his arms.

He pretended not to know that the man in his arms had been awake all along.

His warm, large palm stroked gently over the thin fabric at his waist.

"If my wife is asleep, then he should be able to listen to me properly, right?"

"Why doesn't my wife like me? Is it because of who I am, because I lost my memory?"

"But I really like my wife. I liked him from the very first moment I saw him. Is my wife afraid I'll leave? I promise that when I leave, I'll take him with me, okay?"

"Or if my wife doesn't want me to leave, doesn't want me to regain my memory, I can find a rock and hit myself on the head."

Even though Pei Du's short hair had grown a bit longer during this period, his strands were still stiff and prickly against Chu Lanting's skin.

Feeling Pei Du nuzzle gently against his neck, Chu Lanting couldn't stand the sensation and let out a soft hum.

Then the head buried in his neck suddenly lifted, and in an instant, soft lips pressed against his.

"Wife, I want to stay by your side forever, and never go anywhere."

A low sigh filled the room.

Outside, it had started raining at some point—when they came back, the sun had still been blazing.

Chu Lanting's heart was a mess. He didn't know what those protagonists in TV shows and movies—who loved each other to the point of life and death—were thinking when they fell in love.

He only knew that his heart was a mess. The relationship between him and Pei Du had only ever lasted a few short months on Planet 207.

In a few months, Pei Du would probably regain his memory, and the main planet would likely find him and take him away.

But now Pei Du was holding him tightly, not only saying outrageous things about knocking himself out to stay amnesiac, but also saying he wanted to stay by his side forever...

Chu Lanting, who didn't dare open his eyes, didn't even know when he'd fallen asleep.

When he opened his eyes again, the first thing he saw was a pair of sparkling black eyes.

    "Wife, you're awake!"

    Chu Lanting: ...

Raising his hand to press a finger against Pei Du's forehead, Chu Lanting turned his head away, not daring to meet his gaze: "Don't look at me with those eyes."

"Why not? Aren't my eyes pretty?"

Pei Du's eyes were, of course, beautiful.

They were the most beautiful eyes Chu Lanting had ever seen.

His pupils were like obsidian, and the shape of his eyes was also...

Shaking his head to clear it, realizing his thoughts had wandered, Chu Lanting said softly, "A Du, from now on, let's keep our distance..."

"No! My wife said that again. I'm so sad, so sad I could die."

A voice laced with a slight sob reached his ear.

Chu Lanting turned his head in disbelief to look at the man lying beside him.

He saw his eyes rimmed red, with teardrops the size of beans spilling from them.

    What was going on?

Was the Pei Du who had cornered him at the courtyard gate at noon and forcibly kissed him a fake?

How had he turned back into the crying Pei Du?

Even when faced with a gloomy-faced Pei Du, Chu Lanting could barely steady himself and comfort him.

But once he had to deal with the crying Pei Du, Chu Lanting could only panic, and was completely at a loss.

Finding no tissue or anything nearby to wipe the tears, he could only raise his hand and brush the tears from the corners of Pei Du's eyes with his fingers. "Why are you crying again? You weren't like this at noon..."

"My wife wants to abandon me. I'm so sad. Right here, it hurts so much."

His tear-dampened fingers were pulled to the spot over Pei Du's heart.

Feeling the pounding heartbeat, Chu Lanting felt as if his fingertips had been burned, instinctively curling his fingers in.

Pursing his lips and looking up, he said helplessly, "Then what should we do? Tell me, okay?"

His mind, still groggy from sleep, was filled again with what had happened at noon.

Chu Lanting truly didn't know what to do. Forgetting that the man before him had lost his memory and couldn't think as clearly as he could, he still couldn't help asking him.

    What should he do?

    What would anyone else do?

He knew nothing—couldn't even figure out how to get close to people. Whenever he thought of the problems he'd face in the future, he always felt like retreating.

Who can tell him what he should do?

"Don't cry, honey, it's my fault. I-I'll sleep on the floor. Don't cry, honey."

Warm fingertips brushed lightly across his cheek.

Chu Lanting blinked, and only then did he realize he was crying.

The last time he'd cried was from missing his family, when he'd lost control of his emotions in the middle of the night.

Why did being with Pei Du make him cry too?

He brushed aside the hand wiping his tears, then wiped his own face. "I'm fine."

He got up from the other side of the bed, turning his back to the young man. "I haven't figured things out yet, A Du. Give me a little more time."

With that, he headed for the door and walked out.

It was still light out, and classes were starting next week.

In the past, whenever he was in a bad mood, Chu Lanting would drown himself in work.

    But this time...

For the fifth time, he glanced at the door, which had stayed shut since he'd walked out two hours ago.

    Finally, he sighed helplessly.

Take it slow. Even if he couldn't "let loose" the way Uncle Tian had suggested, he still wanted to make the most of these few months with Pei Du.

After all, he'd been alone for so long, hadn't he?

He stood at the door, took a deep breath, and knocked.

"A Du, it's getting late. What would you like for dinner?"

When there was no response after a moment, a flicker of panic appeared in Chu Lanting's eyes.

Gripping the doorknob, he pushed the door open without hesitation.

"A Du?! What are you doing?!"
