Chapter 13: The Clingy Big Dog

The workshop was filled only with the sound of machines running.

Feng Xingyun looked at the person before him who refused to spare him even a glance, let out a soft tsk, then couldn't help but whistle.

"Baby, the way you ignore me is such a turn-on!"

    Chu Lanting: ......

What kind of tacky, low-class dog drama is this?

The corner of his eye twitched slightly. Not wanting to be bothered any more, he reluctantly turned his head to look at the man beside him.

    "So? What do you want?"

"I just wanted to invite you to have lunch together..."

    "I'm busy."

    "......"

Watching the man's face immediately sour, Chu Lanting withdrew his gaze and got back to work.

His job was actually quite simple—pouring nutrient solution into the designated bags, then tossing the filled bags into a basket.

He repeated these two motions all morning, and behind his seemingly idle appearance, he had already planned what he'd do after work this afternoon, and where he'd start teaching the child afterward.

Having a plan made him feel a bit better. As for the most difficult "recruitment plan," perhaps he could go see Uncle Tian to ask for a favor.

His eyes looked like they were focused on the instrument before him, but his mind was already wandering.

Feng Xingyun caught this and immediately felt annoyed.

"Even if you're busy, make time for me. I've asked you how many times now, and every time you say you're busy. What's the matter? Am I a flea or something? Why do you keep avoiding me?"

A dissatisfied voice sounded beside him.

Chu Lanting withdrew his thoughts and once again cast his gaze on the man: "You're not a flea, but you're even more annoying than one."

    "You!"

"Supervisor Feng, you already have a partner. Spend more time with them. I'm very busy, and thank you for your care during this period."

Everyone knew Feng Xingyun was married.

But everyone also knew he and his partner didn't love each other.

They were using each other—one was greedy and wanted to climb the ladder, and the other needed a cover to keep the family elders happy.

Feng Xingyun had told the original Chu Lanting about this matter, but the original Chu Lanting was a little scared of Feng Xingyun. Before he could even breathe a sigh of relief upon learning the man was married, Feng Xingyun told him he wanted to keep him.

The original Chu Lanting didn't dare offend the factory director—who was also Feng Xingyun's partner—and was so scared he refused on the spot.

Unexpectedly, Feng Xingyun had no sense of boundaries at all. Even though he was married with a partner, he still frequently pestered the original Chu Lanting.

In the past, to avoid losing his job, the original Chu Lanting just avoided Feng Xingyun.

Today, when Chu Lanting finally said something to push back against his supervisor's long-time harassment, it drew a lot of attention.

Feng Xingyun was already upset by his coldness, and now hearing what he said, he became even angrier and more embarrassed.

"Who are you to judge me? The whole town knows you just picked up some guy and took him home."

"That guy's at least some rich dude from the Third Planet. You saved him—why don't you go live the good life with him on the Third Planet?"

"Oh, I get it now. That guy's about to kick the bucket, right? All the people around him are dead. There's no way he's the only one who survived, especially since the airship crashed that badly."

"Hey, any of you pick up pieces of the airship? Did you see any markings? Maybe this guy's even a big shot. Too bad our little Chu won't get to live it up on the Third Planet!"

After his outburst, his harsh words echoed through the workshop.

He said a whole bunch of stuff, but nobody responded.

Even Chu Lanting just lowered his head and kept working.

Feng Xingyun was so mad he was breathing heavily. After shooting Chu Lanting a fierce glare, he turned and left the workshop without looking back.

The tense atmosphere in the stuffy workshop eased, and the worker Feng Xingyun had just chased off went back to his spot.

But this time, he couldn't focus on work.

Sensing his coworker keep glancing at him, Chu Lanting didn't stop what he was doing, but turned to look at him.

The worker, caught staring, looked embarrassed: "Hey, little Chu, why... why'd you turn down Supervisor Feng again?"

Chu Lanting didn't answer. He just shook his head, his face serious, and looked away.

Wasn't the reason he turned Feng Xingyun down obvious? No matter how broke he was, he wasn't going to do something that would wreck a family.

Besides, Feng Xingyun was just a crude guy. It wasn't that he looked down on him, but the guy just acted without thinking, like with what he said earlier.

And Feng Xingyun just wasn't his type...

Chu Lanting had never thought about what type he liked, but now he was "judging by looks" for the first time, feeling that if he were to find a partner in the future, he definitely wouldn't choose someone like Feng Xingyun.

At the very least, he'd want someone like... Pei Du?

Realizing that the scene of Pei Du pitifully hugging a blanket and calling him "wife" had popped into his mind, Chu Lanting pressed his lips together and subconsciously shoved the image out of his head.

Why did his partner have to be a guy? Couldn't it be a woman?

But when he tried to think of women, his mind went completely blank.

On his first real day at the factory, Chu Lanting dragged himself home at noon, exhausted.

He'd already made bread for Pei Du yesterday and confirmed the guy wasn't picky and would eat it, but he still couldn't relax leaving him alone at home.

He pushed open the door and walked in. The house was much cooler than outside. Just coming in from outside, Chu Lanting frowned without thinking.

He didn't see anyone in the outer room, so he pushed open the inner door.

When he spotted the familiar figure by the bed, Chu Lanting sighed in relief: "It's already noon. Did you eat?"

When Pei Du heard footsteps outside, his face immediately turned guarded.

Seeing it was Chu Lanting, he relaxed his expression and hurried to the door barefoot.

He reached out and pulled the other man into his arms. The tall man, wrapped in bandages and without even a coat on, completely hid the person in his embrace from view.

    "Babe, I missed you."

His whiny tone didn't match his huge frame at all, yet it let Chu Lanting finally relax the tension he'd been holding for so long.

He reached up and patted the man's arm twice, then looked up to meet his eyes. "I told you I'd come back."

Chu Lanting took the man's arm and led him to sit on the edge of the bed, looking down at him.

He checked the wounds on the man's body, making sure they weren't inflamed or split open, and were actually healing. He let out a relieved sigh and spoke softly.

"What did you do at home this morning? Did you have lunch? Did the bread from last night fill you up?"

As he spoke, he set the two bags of nutritional supplements he was carrying on the nightstand. "If you're still hungry, you can drink this. It doesn't taste great, but it'll at least give you some nutrients, okay?"

Before he could finish his sentence, his waist was embraced once more.

Startled by the sudden move, Chu Lanting looked down to see a fuzzy head nuzzling against his chest. He raised his hand to pat the top of the man's head. "What's wrong?"

    "Babe, I missed you."
