Chapter 14: Jealous Big Dog
byChapter 14: The Jealous Big Dog
Pei Du's voice was the most pleasant Chu Lanting had ever heard.
He didn't need to deliberately lower his voice for it to carry enough magnetism.
Especially now, with his head buried in Chu Lanting's chest, being all clingy and whiny with both his body and his voice.
A tingling sensation, like tiny electric currents, spread outward from his heart and traveled through his meridians.
The long, pale fingers resting on top of Pei Du's head curled slightly.
Chu Lanting couldn't help but swallow. Just as the guy in his arms looked up and met his eyes, a thought flashed through his mind.
The corners of his lips curled up slightly, and his pink lips parted: "I missed you too."
In that instant, Chu Lanting saw those dark eyes before him suddenly light up.
Feeling the arms around his waist squeeze tighter, he let the smile fade and was about to speak helplessly when he felt himself being lifted.
Everything went blurry, and the next moment, he fell onto the bed. Luckily, a big hand cushioned the back of his head—otherwise, with how hard the bed board was, that alone would've left him seeing stars for at least two minutes.
He felt a weight press down on his waist. When Chu Lanting opened his eyes again, he saw Pei Du straddling him once more.
"Wife."
It was a deep voice, but it sounded all clingy right now.
Chu Lanting didn't respond to being called that.
Pei Du had lost his memory, and he wasn't all there mentally, so he thought Chu Lanting was his partner.
But Chu Lanting hadn't lost his memory. If he just played along, it'd only cause more problems down the road.
Rather than hoping to cash in like the original owner had, it was better to set clear boundaries with Pei Du from the get-go.
The bed was small, and the bed board was hard. Judging by the headboard, it was an old bed that had seen better days.
The moment Chu Lanting fell onto it, the old bed groaned and creaked under the weight.
To keep Pei Du from clinging to him like he did yesterday, he turned his head to look at the shelf beside them.
"You haven't answered my question. Did you eat lunch?"
"Not yet. Waiting for my wife."
Hearing that he hadn't eaten lunch, Chu Lanting immediately furrowed his brows. "I told you last night and this morning to remember to eat. Why didn't you listen to me?"
"What if I didn't come back at noon? Were you just gonna stay hungry?"
Chu Lanting rarely let his emotions show. Only people who'd spent time with him and earned his trust knew how gentle he really was.
Even a hint of scolding in his voice was a rare show of anger from him.
Pei Du was taken aback by this side of him.
Sitting astride his waist, the clingy look on that ridiculously handsome face turned into a blank stare.
Because of his injuries, Chu Lanting hadn't put any clothes on him.
So there he sat, with his killer looks and body, staring blankly at Chu Lanting.
It wasn't until Chu Lanting started feeling uncomfortable under his stare that Pei Du's lips turned down, and his eyes got red again.
"...What are you crying about?"
"Wife scolded me. Wife doesn't love me. I love wife. I wanna wait for wife to eat together."
Wait.
Where the hell did that come from?
By now, Chu Lanting was starting to wonder if Pei Du had been into some weird stuff before losing his memory.
Like that novel he'd confiscated—he'd read the blurb, and the male lead in it was also a crybaby with a soft personality.
Otherwise, could a "cold-hearted" star military officer really change this much after losing his memory?
And yesterday Pei Du was saying "like," so how did it jump to "love" today?
He instinctively reached out to feel the guy's forehead.
The moment his fingertips touched that smooth forehead, a dry, warm hand covered his.
Then he felt his hand pressed against something warm and soft.
Pei Du was nuzzling his face against Chu Lanting's hand.
The gesture made Chu Lanting's pale fingers curl slightly before relaxing again.
His expression turned complicated.
"I'm just worried about you. What if I'm too busy today and can't come back at noon? You'd starve."
"But wife came back. Wife, I missed you."
Those bright, fox-like eyes stared straight at Chu Lanting, the love and longing within them plain to see.
It felt like something was stuck in his throat. Chu Lanting took a deep breath and let out a soft sigh. "How much longer are you gonna keep me pinned down? Get up first. After lunch, I still need to go see Uncle He."
"Am I coming too?"
The moment he heard his wife was going out, Pei Du immediately blinked back his tears and put on a good-boy look.
Chu Lanting watched the tears come and go on command and thought, "What a drama queen," but still said no.
"Your wounds haven't healed yet, and I still haven't found clothes that fit you."
Speaking of that, Chu Lanting's expression turned slightly awkward.
When the original owner had found Pei Du, the latter had been drenched in blood from head to toe.
Especially the shirt and shorts he'd had on—they were beyond salvage.
It was a shame such fine fabric had been ruined like that, but those bloodstained clothes certainly couldn't be sold for anything, so the original owner had simply thrown them away.
And since his own body type was nowhere near Pei Du's, the washed-out clothes hanging in his wardrobe wouldn't fit Pei Du at all.
His baggy shorts had been scavenged from who-knows-where by the original owner; Chu Lanting had to dig deep to find them, yet they were still too small on Pei Du.
The waistband dug a ring of marks into Pei Du's abs.
Most residents on Planet 207 were skinny, and even a big guy like Feng Xingyun was nothing compared to Pei Du.
To outfit Pei Du, they'd likely have to sew everything by hand.
There was no new fabric at home, and the old stuff was poor quality.
That was one more thing added to the to-do list.
When he heard there were no clothes for him, maybe his 'noble' blood had finally kicked in—this time, he didn't throw a fit about going out with his wife.
Still, he wore a sulky look the whole meal.
Chu Lanting swallowed the dry bread, chugged a mouthful of nutrient supplement, then spoke up.
"That was my bad—I'll get you new clothes as soon as I can."
So quit giving me that sad, sulky look.
He was the type to go soft easily.
Especially when it came to pretty things—people or objects alike.
"How soon is 'soon'? Wife, when can I come to work with you?"
"You don't have to come with me. You're strong and smart—you can find work somewhere else."
"Why? Don't you want to be with me, wife?"
"..."
The nutrient factory also had loading positions.
But that's where Feng Xingyun worked—the guy who'd kept disrespecting 'Chu Lanting.'
Chu Lanting squeezed the bread in his hand and shook his head. "After going there today, I realized it's not right for you. With your skills, that job would be way too easy for you."
"No, you just don't wanna be with me. You don't like me. And you smell like someone else!"
