Chapter 110: It’s Enough That He Likes Me
by 风寄明月Chapter 110: It's Enough That He Likes Me
"You're planning to bring him back just like that?"
Inside the military tent, Shen Yu rubbed his forehead, looking like he had a headache.
This Zerg assault had struck with such ferocity that they hadn't been given much time at all.
Had it not been for humanity's years of experience fighting the Zerg and their extensive combat expertise, this small planet—so far from the home star—would likely have been overrun already.
Of course, that wasn't the most important thing.
Thanks to that combat experience, in just over three months, the invading Zerg had been completely wiped out.
Only a bit of mopping up remained, and as a Major General, Pei Du could stay or leave as he pleased.
Unlike in the past when he'd had no one waiting for him, Pei Du—who had been missing his husband back home for over three months now—couldn't even be bothered to change out of his battle uniform. He'd come to give Shen Yu a heads-up before leaving.
Hearing the question from behind him, Pei Du, who had just turned around and hadn't even steadied his footing, frowned in confusion. "Who?"
Then, as he looked back at Shen Yu, Shen Yu pointed toward the tent's entrance.
Following the direction of his finger, a slender figure caught his eye.
Finding Luo Zhou had been pure chance.
To ensure the safety of the planet's residents as best they could, the planet's administrator had already evacuated the population in an orderly manner before the military even arrived.
But Luo Zhou hadn't been one of them.
According to him, he had an elderly grandfather sick and bedridden at home, and having grown up depending solely on his grandfather, he couldn't just abandon him and flee.
So he chose to stay.
Luo Zhou admitted he shouldn't have held out hope that the Zerg wouldn't happen to hit his home.
But his luck had been just too bad.
The result was that his already aging home was completely torn apart by the Zerg.
And his grandfather had been killed by the Zerg as well.
Before Pei Du had saved him from the Zerg's jaws, he'd already resolved to go down to join his grandfather.
The planet's administrator had fled with the residents, leaving Luo Zhou behind.
As a soldier, Pei Du naturally couldn't allow a civilian to be harmed right under his nose, so he'd temporarily kept him at his side.
Well, "at his side" really meant keeping him in the operations division.
Pei Du was too busy—during his busiest periods, he'd gone three days and two nights without sleep.
Only after the Zerg were fully eradicated did he manage to snatch a little rest, then got up to head back to the home star.
During that time, he'd spoken to Luo Zhou even less than Shen Yu had.
Puzzled as to why Shen Yu would ask such a thing, Pei Du's face turned cold as he spoke in a low voice.
"What are you talking about? His home is here. The planet's administrator will bring the residents back, and the home star will send people to handle post-disaster reconstruction."
In short, he had no intention of bringing Luo Zhou back to the home star.
Hearing this, Shen Yu breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
Over the years, he'd seen plenty of psychics going around seeking temporary partners.
Usually, such cases involved psychics needing to vent excess psychic energy they couldn't disperse on their own.
In the past, Pei Du could have been described as "ascetic" without a doubt.
But a man who'd tasted the forbidden fruit was different from one who never had.
He'd seen more than his fair share of "straying from the path."
Luo Zhou adored Pei Du—it was plain to see in the young man's eyes.
Yet Pei Du would occasionally chat with Luo Zhou as if nothing was wrong.
It made Shen Yu both alarmed and furious, and even more indignant on behalf of Chu Lanting, who was pining away back on the home star.
Some things could be said, and some couldn't—he knew that rule well.
That was why he hadn't brought up the topic of Luo Zhou with Pei Du the whole time.
But now he had no choice but to lay the cards on the table.
Yet Pei Du's words were nothing but cold and distant toward Luo Zhou.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of Luo Zhou standing timidly outside the tent, his delicate face turning pale the moment he heard Pei Du's words.
Shen Yu pursed his lips and had his assistant take Luo Zhou back to the tent to rest.
Only after that figure disappeared from view, looking back every few steps, did Shen Yu smile wryly and walk over to his friend's side.
"Out with it."
Pei Du's patience had run out.
Over these three months or more, he'd video-called Chu Lanting twice, and both times had been interrupted by others.
He had a fire burning in his chest he couldn't vent, and it all turned into longing.
For that reason, he'd disregarded his own safety and chosen the most reckless approach. Against the objections of Shen Yu and the others, he'd wiped out the pests on this planet in one decisive strike.
Afterward, the King himself had called, first praising his courage and cunning, then teasing him about how his style this time differed from his usual style.
It seemed like teasing, but it was actually a warning.
Because his previous plan had been far too risky—one misstep could have cost the entire Aland galaxy a great Major General.
Pei Du's face remained impassive as he simply muttered a low apology.
The King on the other end of the line sighed and granted him one request.
He was too young, and rising through the ranks too quickly would attract trouble—granting a request plus rewards was the best approach.
Otherwise, with his daredevil fighting style, he would have already become the youngest Lieutenant General in the Aland galaxy.
Pei Du, who usually showed no interest in rewards, actually had some interest this time.
"Thank you, Your Majesty. This time, I actually have a small request..."
The king agreed to it.
All he needed to do now was return to the main star, head to the palace, and ask the king to make good on his promise.
But Shen Yu stopped him.
Shen Yu felt his skin crawl under Pei Du's sharp gaze.
He scratched his neck and said, "Don't look at me like that. Can't you tell? Luo Zhou likes you."
"...Are you crazy?"
Shen Yu's face went blank. "What?"
Then Pei Du let out a light snort. "Who the hell would like a cold-blooded, heartless, vicious, inhuman bastard?"
Shen Yu's face turned bright red at that.
Those words describing Pei Du had all originated in the military, and most of them had come out of his own mouth.
After knowing each other for so many years, Shen Yu felt those words fit Pei Du to a T.
Yet now, those very words came out of Pei Du's own mouth.
"Who else? Isn't your brother-in-law into you?" Shen Yu rolled his eyes.
Sure enough, Pei Du's expression visibly softened.
"Just him liking me is enough."
Not bothering to waste more time on Shen Yu, Pei Du turned and left the tent.
"Handle this yourself. They'll send someone from the main star soon. You can come back once you've wrapped things up here."
He walked quickly.
So fast that before Shen Yu could say another word, his tall figure had already disappeared from view.
Stepping outside the tent, Shen Yu saw Pei Du's airship already firing up.
He instinctively glanced at the tent nearby, and when he spotted a delicate face peeking out of the tent entrance, he couldn't help pinching the bridge of his nose.
Pei Du didn't lack admirers.
In fact, he had plenty.
But that guy seemed born without a heart for love, treating his admirers like they were sick.
It wasn't until Chu Lanting showed up that everyone finally got it.
Pei Du wasn't incapable of love—he just hadn't met the right person yet.
Shen Yu also thought Pei Du had finally fallen in love for the first time, finally learning how to love.
Yet from the looks of it now, Pei Du's heart had only one attachment, and it was firmly fixed on Chu Lanting.
Anyone else trying to get close to him would only be treated the same way he treated those past admirers.
He thought they were crazy.
