Chapter 74: Resentful Spirit
As Mrs. Zhou spoke, Qi Qian instinctively glanced at Qin Liuxi, and everyone else followed his gaze, their expressions turning strange.
They couldn’t believe that this young man could be a skilled doctor.
Qin Liuxi seemed oblivious to the attention, focusing only on the room, her eyes half-closed.
"Such strong malevolent energy, almost bursting forth."
She then looked at Mrs. Zhou, observing her features in the dim light.
With a high forehead and prominent nose, Mrs. Zhou should have been very wealthy. However, the horizontal lines on her forehead, the low and thin flesh on her hills and graves area, along with a scarred face, indicated a short life for her husband. Moreover, the deep concavity in her children's palace suggested a shallow bond with offspring and difficulty in conceiving.
Indeed, no one is perfect. Mrs. Zhou, despite her wealth, struggles with childlessness and the impending loss of her husband. Now, she is further burdened by malevolent energy, with her fortunes in decline.
Qin Liuxi looked again at the house with its overwhelming malevolent energy and suddenly sneered inwardly at a thought.
Mrs. Zhou felt a chill down her spine under Qin Liuxi's gaze and instinctively stepped back.
Her intuition told her it was best to avoid any dealings with this young man, or else her peaceful life would be disrupted.
"Qi Gongzi, what is this about?" Madam Ding asked, somewhat perplexed.
Qi Qian turned to Qin Liuxi and inquired, "Doctor Qin, what do you think?"
Is he really a doctor?
Madam Ding's heart skipped a beat. This person's surname is Qin?
She pondered something, her expression unreadable and a bit strange. After scrutinizing Qin Liuxi several times and confirming he appeared male, she relaxed.
"Your husband is gravely ill, yet you are not by his side. You seem rather unconcerned," Qin Liuxi commented to Mrs. Zhou.
Everyone listened and then looked at Mrs. Zhou. Indeed, why wasn't she by her husband's bedside during such a critical emergency?
Mrs. Zhou, visibly displeased, was about to explain when Qin Liuxi added, "This isn’t the first time he’s been like this, is it?"
Mrs. Zhou, who had been intending to return to the room, paused and replied instinctively, "Correct, it started this year. He faints occasionally, usually waking up on his own. The doctors couldn’t find anything wrong, but the frequency increased, and his fainting spells grew longer and more frequent. His health deteriorated, so we came to Ningzhou Prefecture's Qianjindang to seek medical help. How did you know?"
Qi Qian, hands clasped behind his back, showed no surprise. He didn't need to ask or diagnose to know – this further solidified his belief in Qin Liuxi's abilities.
"My grandmother's chronic illness should be curable, right?"
Qin Liuxi remarked, "Your husband is ill, and while you as his wife show concern and urgency, you don't exhibit the frantic panic of an ant on a hot pan. This suggests either this isn't his first bout of illness, or you simply don't care about him and would rather have him dead."
"How vicious!"
"Nonsense!" Mrs. Zhou retorted without hesitation, her voice harsh, "I have been married to my husband for ten years, and our love has remained as strong as ever. Despite years without children, he never abandoned me nor took concubines. He even suggested adopting from a charity hall. With such a good husband, how could I be indifferent? I would risk my life for him. You, a young man, how dare you make such outrageous claims without knowing the facts?"
Qin Liuxi couldn't help but laugh, "Risk your life? I fear he might not be able to bear such deep affection."
What does that mean?
"There was no need to examine him, but seeing your deep affection, I’m intrigued to investigate," Qin Liuxi stepped toward the room, adding, "I want to see what kind of man deserving of such a sacrifice could generate such intense malevolent energy."
"Seems like it's time for another recommendation battle, which is crucial for Xi's fate. I need votes, exposure, and data!"
