Chapter 90: Taking This Task Lightly
Qi Qian escorted Qin Liuxi to the guesthouse. Though anxious for her to examine his grandmother, he knew the journey had been tiring. He didn’t take her to see his grandmother right away, as he also needed to pay his respects first.
“Will Doctor Qin rest well tonight, and examine my grandmother tomorrow?”
Qin Liuxi replied, “That would be best.”
Without further ado, Qi Qian left, instructing Steward Wan to ensure Qin Liuxi was well taken care of, noting her 'frailty' and fussy nature.
Steward Wan promptly agreed, even bringing two clever and beautiful maids to attend to her.
Chen Pi, not relying on others, directed the servants to bring hot water for Qin Liuxi’s bath, and prepared hot tea, soup, and dishes. After refreshing themselves, the master and servant sat down to dine, and only then did Chen Pi start discussing Qi Qian's appearance.
“Master, you said the Prince of Rui lost his father at a young age, but why do I feel...”
Qin Liuxi coughed and glanced at Chen Pi.
Chen Pi chuckled awkwardly and glanced outside.
Qin Liuxi spoke, “Let’s not discuss him. The intricacies of the royal family are far more complex than those of ordinary households.”
Chen Pi fell silent.
Qin Liuxi quietly served herself some dishes. Qi Qian’s background was indeed complicated, and this task was taken too lightly.
Meanwhile, Qi Qian scratched his itchy nose and sneezed twice. He was sure they were talking about him. The thought of her casually revealing his personal matters made him purse his lips.
“Is Qi’an outside?”
Qi Qian composed himself and stepped in as the maid lifted the curtain. Seeing the elderly lady with a kind and aristocratic demeanor sitting on the southern arhat bed, he smiled, lifted his robe, and knelt down.
The old princess consort's face brightened with a smile upon seeing her eldest grandson. Before he fully knelt, she said, "Get up quickly, the floor is cold, no need to kneel. Zhu'er, quickly serve the Prince some tea."
Qi Qian stood up and, without waiting for the old princess consort to beckon, took a seat beside her and gently held her hand. "Grandmother, it's been a while since I've seen you. How has your health been?"
"It's just the start of August, and the weather hasn't turned cold yet. Where could I possibly be unwell? Don't worry," the old princess consort reassured him while patting his hand. "The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching. You must stay with me through the festival before you leave."
"I was planning to spend the Mid-Autumn Festival with you anyway."
The old princess consort was overjoyed at his words. Turning to Zhao Mommy beside her, she said, "Did you hear that, A'Zhen? The Prince is staying at the villa for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Tell Wan, the steward, to prepare more delicacies, and if we have any deer, keep them well-fed. We can roast one for him."
"Yes," Zhao Mommy replied with a smile.
Qi Qian, seeing her happiness, added, "Grandmother, I have found that elusive healer and have already invited her to the villa. It's late today, but tomorrow morning, I will bring her to examine and treat your cold syndrome. She will surely ease your suffering."
The old princess consort was noncommittal. "This has been a chronic issue for many years; I'm used to it. Whether it's treatable or not, it's the same to me. Look, I'm doing just fine living here in the villa."
Though she said this, it was only when she stayed in a warm room. Outside, especially in the cold winter, the chill was unbearable, making sleep impossible and her body numb with cold. She dared not step outside, afraid of the cold.
But, as she mentioned, she had grown accustomed to it over the years, simply spending winters indoors.
"Grandmother, perhaps this time will be different."
Seeing Qi Qian's confidence, the old princess consort smiled, "Alright, let him examine me. We shouldn't waste your kind efforts."
Qi Qian then smiled and said to Zhao Mommy, "Have the meal prepared. I'll dine with Grandmother."
