Chapter 56
byChapter 56
The ion beasts also charged in, claws and fangs flashing. Their claws pierced through the brains of the Qing Shi sharks, with white and red brain matter oozing out of the punctured holes.
Around the D Beehive, the Qing Shi sharks were annihilated, and the waves began to subside. The survivors, still in shock, clung to the ship's railings.
The speedboat continued forward, heading towards the C Beehive ship.
"Don't use too much psychic power; the Qing Shi sharks' weak point is their eyes. Use guns or knives."
"Yes."
Just as Lin Fen's order was issued, a figure dashed out from beside him.
"Qin Shen!" Yu Yuan immediately shouted.
Feng Chen, without looking back, held a dagger in his hand and leaped from the speedboat into the sea. Mid-air, he used his psychic power to thrust forward.
A Qing Shi shark near the C Beehive, originally slapping waves, suddenly stopped moving and floated stiffly on the water's surface.
Feng Chen landed on its massive carcass, swiftly wielding his dagger to pierce through the eye of another Qing Shi shark nearby.
The other sharks, sensing the danger, opened their mouths to bite at him, but he had already leaped forward, using his psychic power to strike another shark ahead and using its carcass as a stepping stone.
One after another, the Qing Shi sharks fell to Feng Chen, their bodies forming a chain of floating islands, creating a path forward for him.
"He's heading for the A Beehive, but he'll overuse his psychic power amidst so many sharks," Yu Yuan said anxiously.
Lin Fen immediately instructed the sentinels beside him, "Go to the A Beehive to assist him."
"Yes."
The Black Lion, carrying Yan Bubu, leaped over the bodies of the Qing Shi sharks, extending its claws to scratch and wound them grievously.
In their rage, the Qing Shi sharks, with their heads up and mouths open, were so focused on encircling and blocking the two of them that they neglected the A Beehive ship and those who had fallen into the water. These people, too scared to return to the ship, struggled to swim away, aiming to escape the shark group first.
Yan Bubu didn't dare relax for a moment, continuously chanting his spell in fear that missing a single word would cause him to fall from the air, right into the gaping mouths of the sharks.
The Black Lion tried to rush towards Hai Yun City, but there was always a group of Qing Shi sharks waiting ahead.
These sharks were bloodied, with several of their fins torn into strips. They glared with their malicious small eyes, intent only on killing the Black Lion and Yan Bubu, tearing them into pieces to devour.
Several Qing Shi sharks lunged at the Black Lion, which made a powerful leap towards the shore. It leaped about ten meters, but even mid-air, the landing point was already occupied by several sharks waiting in anticipation.
In the air, the Black Lion revealed its sharp claws, aiming for the shark directly below. Despite two others opening their mouths beside it, the Black Lion was resolute and fierce, unafraid and ready to use its body to block those two.
Yan Bubu saw the attacking sharks and tried to chant to maintain his flight, but his magic seemed to falter, leaving him helplessly watching as he fell towards the sharks' mouths.
"Ahwu bengga—"
Before his scream could finish, he felt his body lighten and was lifted into the air again. At the same time, the sharks below suddenly swayed and collapsed into the water, causing tumultuous waves.
Yan Bubu, noticing someone beside him, turned his head and stared in disbelief.
"Brother!" He screamed heartrendingly.
"Quiet down! Don't yell in my ear!"
Feng Chen's ears rang from Yan Bubu's piercing cry of "brother."
The Black Lion, having released its jaws, worked its stiff jaw muscles, stepping on the carcass of a Qing Shi shark. It raised its mane-fluttering head and let out a deep, majestic roar towards the sky.
Yan Bubu and other ordinary people couldn't hear this sound, but the Qing Shi sharks could.
Overwhelmed by the Black Lion's imposing presence, they showed signs of fear in an instant. Several sharks nearby already turned to flee. However, their inherent brutality halted their escape and ignited even more rage and restlessness.
Feng Chen's psychic power, tough as a filament, netted the nearest mutated sharks, then hardened into spikes, piercing into their skulls.
Other mutated sharks charged ferociously, but several sentinels arrived in time, killing them in swathes.
With no more Qing Shi sharks slapping waves, the A Beehive ship ceased its violent shaking and gradually stabilized. Yan Bubu, held in Feng Chen's hand, watched as he stepped on the shark carcasses, making his way towards the A Beehive.
Quantum beasts led the way, their claws whirling and fangs tearing.
Feng Chen and a few sentinels worked together, stabbing the nearby sharks' eyes with daggers while continuously emitting psychic power, killing the encircling Qing Shi sharks.
The Qing Shi sharks turned belly-up, creating a bizarre yet spectacular scene: ahead was a sea of grey shark backs, but where the group passed, the grey turned to pale white, like a cascading set of two-toned dominoes.
Yan Bubu was somewhat confused; were these sharks killed by him, or by his brother and the Western Allied Army uncles?
They only stabbed the sharks nearby, so why did the other sharks die too?
Hmm… it must be because of his own magic.
Energized, Yan Bubu chanted his spell with more vigor.
Finally stable, the A Beehive had soldiers throw down several rope ladders. Those struggling in the water, skirting around the shark corpses, grabbed the ladders to climb aboard. Seeing the situation improve, those who swam away earlier quickly returned.
Around the A Beehive, the sea was littered with Qing Shi shark carcasses. The few remaining sharks, sensing danger, tried to swim around the bow to the other side but were caught and torn apart by the quantum beasts, quickly silencing them.
Now, Feng Chen only felt a throbbing headache and a sense of nausea. He hurriedly climbed up the ladder with Yan Bubu.
The Black Lion, having dealt with the last Qing Shi shark, stepped on the shark corpses to clean its claws in the sea water, then vanished into thin air.
Soldiers on the ship scrambled to pull people up from the rope ladders. As Feng Chen set Yan Bubu on the deck, people crowded around, bombarding them with questions: "Are you alright?"
"We're fine."
Although these people were ordinary, unmutated, and couldn't see the Black Lion, they had witnessed Feng Chen killing the Qing Shi sharks and recognized him as a special forces soldier.
During the escape through the emergency passage from the underground shelter, everyone had witnessed the prowess of the sentinel guides and secretly referred to them as special forces soldiers. Now seeing that Feng Chen was one of them, their gazes were filled with admiration and curiosity, mixed with a hint of cautiousness.
Wu You emerged from the passage, pale-faced, and upon seeing Yan Bubu, approached with shaky steps: "Jingjing, I didn't see you in the passage just now. Where had you gone? I couldn't find you anywhere."
Yan Bubu pointed towards the side of the ship: "I went to kill those sharks. I killed all of these ones over here."
"Uncle Wu," Feng Chen greeted Wu You.
Wu You sized up the two: "I was worried about you both from the start. It's good to see you're safe."
Lin Fen and his team had almost eradicated the Qing Shi sharks around the B and C Beehives. The remaining mutated sharks, sensing danger, tried to escape into the deep sea. Ion beasts pursued and blocked them, leading to a fierce melee that eventually wiped out all the mutated Qing Shi sharks.
The deck was filled with silent people, standing in the rain.
No one knew what the next day would bring, how many more disasters like this they would encounter, or if they would always be lucky enough to escape.
The sea stretched to the horizon, displaying a profound and vast expanse of ink blue. The vastness of the world was awe-inspiring, yet their future path seemed obscured...
Without waiting for Lin Fen to board, Feng Chen took Yan Bubu back to their room, where he collapsed on the bed, exhausted.
"Change out of your wet clothes," Feng Chen instructed with closed eyes.
Yan Bubu took off his wet clothes and changed into a military T-shirt. Seeing that Feng Chen's clothes were also wet, he hurried to help him change.
Feng Chen, with eyes still closed, simply raised his arms and legs to cooperate.
"Lift your head; I can't get the shirt off your neck," Yan Bubu said.
Feng Chen's head was enveloped in the T-shirt, and he mumbled, "I don't want to move; figure it out yourself."
"You're so lazy, brother," Yan Bubu chuckled, poking Feng Chen's face through the T-shirt.
"Were you scared just now?" Feng Chen caught Yan Bubu's hand and held it in his palm.
Yan Bubu thought for a moment: "I was scared when you weren't back, even though I could fly in the sky. But after you came back, I wasn't scared at all."
Feng Chen released his hand and reached up to his head, ruffling it, "Hurry up and help me get undressed, I'm suffocating in these."
Yan Bubu climbed onto the bed, cradling Feng Chen's head in his arms, and struggled to remove the T-shirt from his neck.
Next came the task of removing shoes and pants. Yan Bubu climbed up and down the bed, finally managing to strip off Feng Chen's shoes, socks, and trousers. When he went to remove his underwear, Feng Chen stopped him, holding onto the waistband, "You don't need to help with this."
Sitting on the carpet beside the bed, Yan Bubu gasped for breath, "Just now, killing all those sharks wasn't as exhausting as taking off your clothes."
"Go get me a dry towel," Feng Chen said.
As Yan Bubu fetched a dry towel from the bathroom, Feng Chen changed into clean underwear and then lay back down.
Yan Bubu returned with the towel, and without being asked, started to dry Feng Chen's wet hair and body, then helped him put on clean clothes.
"Brother, am I taking good care of you?" Yan Bubu asked earnestly while straightening Feng Chen's T-shirt.
Feng Chen, who had been lying with his eyes closed, opened them slightly upon hearing this, half-squinting at Yan Bubu, "Do you really have the nerve to ask? I'm the one who dresses you every day."
"Then I won't ask," Yan Bubu hurriedly replied.
Feng Chen snorted and didn't respond further.
Although Feng Chen was conversing with Yan Bubu, he was actually quite exhausted. Seeing his fatigue, Yan Bubu dressed him, covered him with a blanket, and then lay down beside him.
"Sleep now, sleep," Yan Bubu gently patted Feng Chen, whispering softly, "Sleep..."
Overcome by drowsiness, Feng Chen quickly fell into a deep sleep. Soon after, the hand that had been patting him stilled, and the room was filled with the rhythmic, soft snoring of Yan Bubu.
They slept deeply until a knocking at the door startled Feng Chen awake. Yan Bubu, entangled in his limbs, was sleeping soundly. As Feng Chen moved to get up, Yan Bubu also stirred awake.
Knock, knock, knock.
The knocking continued.
Feng Chen got out of bed, pressing his slightly aching temples, and opened the door to find Yu Yuan standing there, holding a large bag.
"Make way," Yu Yuan said, entering with the large bag that obscured his upper body, "This is the stuff you picked out at the supply point this morning. It's been on the hovercraft until now. Soldiers just brought it back. I also packed some daily necessities for you - toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, thermos, raincoat, everything you might need."
Yu Yuan placed the bag on the table and turned to see Yan Bubu sitting on the bed with a sulky expression, his hair in disarray, looking unhappy.
"Little curly hair, who are you angry with?" Yu Yuan approached the bed and bent down to look at him.
Yan Bubu, with eyes downcast, remained silent. Feng Chen, leaning against the wall, said, "Don't mind him. He's just grumpy from waking up."
"Grumpy from waking up, huh?" Yu Yuan chuckled, turning to take several clothes out of the bag and laid them out in front of Yan Bubu.
Yan Bubu glanced at the clothes, his eyes lighting up, "Binunu... new clothes, Binunu!"
"Your brother picked them out for you," Yu Yuan said.
Yan Bubu hugged the clothes to his chest, touching them affectionately, then looked up at Feng Chen standing by the wall.
"Take a shower before putting them on," Feng Chen said, and then took out new overalls and underwear from the bag, placing them by the bed.
Yan Bubu rolled off the bed and entered the bathroom cheerfully.
Once Yan Bubu closed the bathroom door, Yu Yuan asked, "Using so much psychic power today must be hard on you, right?"
Feng Chen didn't hide it, sitting down on another bed and nodded, "It's uncomfortable."
"I told you not to overuse psychic power, but you did. Luckily, it wasn't too much."
"You've just become a sentinel and haven't learned how to precisely control your psychic power, so after a large-scale battle like today, you'll feel headaches and dizziness. You should practice more often, like constructing and maintaining barriers, controlling psychic power efficiently without dispersion or waste, staying within a manageable psychic threshold."
Feng Chen pressed his forehead, exhaling in slight irritation.
Sitting down opposite him, Yu Yuan continued, "As a guide, I can help organize your psychic field to alleviate dizziness. But I can only do superficial organization. For deeper cleansing of the psychic core, you'll need your exclusive guide."
"Exclusive guide?" Feng Chen asked, puzzled.
Yu Yuan curled his lips, "Sentinels and guides are like firearms and triggers, working in tandem to fire that lethal bullet. A sentinel's psychic field is like tangled yarn; a guide's organization prevents knots and psychic instability from sensory overload. But ordinary guides can only do surface-level organization. Only an exclusive guide can find that thread end in the tangle and solve the problem from the root."
Feng Chen didn't quite understand, but Yu Yuan didn't elaborate further, just placed his hand on Feng Chen's forehead, "Close your eyes, relax completely, don't resist me."
Feng Chen complied, and seconds later, he felt a jolt in his brain as a foreign psychic power entered.
Instinctively, he tried to expel the intrusion, but then he heard Yu Yuan's urgent voice, "Relax, it's me, don't resist, I won't hurt you, let down your guard and trust me."
Feng Chen, hearing Yu Yuan's words, tried to relax, but he found it difficult to open his psychic field willingly.
"I am a Binunu... a brave Binunu..."
The off-key singing of Yan Bubu, coming from the bathroom, carried a strangely calming magic that gradually relaxed Feng Chen's tense nerves.
Sensing the slight opening in Feng Chen's psychic field, Yu Yuan quickly channeled his psychic power into it.
"I am a Binunu... wearing new clothes, Binunu..."
Yu Yuan and Feng Chen sat face to face, both entering the world of the psychic field.
In the midst of Yan Bubu's out-of-tune singing, Feng Chen experienced an unprecedented tranquility. He heard the raindrops tapping against the porthole, the rise and fall of the waves, and even the voice of a wife scolding her husband in a cabin above.
This sensation was novel, his perception seemed to take physical form and extend infinitely.
It was as if he was passing by each cabin, hearing the soft murmurs, rhythmic snoring... all buzzing into his ears.
When Yu Yuan withdrew his psychic power, Feng Chen was startled out of his wandering state of perception and slowly opened his eyes.
