Chapter 212
byChapter 212
Feng Chen swiftly pulled Yan Bubu off the ground, tearing off the cloth from his mouth, encircling him with one arm while blocking punches from two attackers with the other.
He struck swiftly forward, hitting one of the attackers in the neck. A series of crisp cracks sounded, and the man's neck drooped to the side like overcooked noodles, his head lolling onto his shoulder.
"Be careful, everyone spread out, stay back," someone yelled.
Feng Chen kicked another man in the chest, sending him flying several meters before crashing heavily to the ground. When he tried to rise, his broken ribs had pierced through his flesh, protruding from his chest.
Another tried to pull Yan Bubu away from Feng Chen's embrace. Just as his hand touched Yan's shoulder, Feng Chen sharply turned his head towards him.
Feng Chen's pupils were pitch black, cold and devoid of emotion. The man, realizing he shared the same appearance, was still terrified, instinctively wanting to retract his hand.
But Feng Chen had already seized his arm, twisting it violently to the right, contorting it into a twisted angle like a twisted breadstick. Although the henchman felt no pain, he screamed in horror, and his companions quickly launched a fierce attack on Feng Chen.
With one arm around Yan Bubu and the other gripping the man's arm, Feng Chen dodged several blows and pulled back sharply, ripping the arm off the body with brute force.
Holding the severed limb, Feng Chen turned to face the other henchmen. Upon meeting his gaze, a chill rose up their spines, and they dared not advance further.
Though they possessed zombie-like abilities and wouldn't die unless severely mutilated, they retained human thought and didn't consider themselves true zombies. Seeing Feng Chen's treatment of their comrades, even these desperadoes burdened with numerous lives felt a deep-seated fear.
The Black Lion bit down on a subordinate's skull, its sharp fangs piercing bone and membrane, as Feng Chen unleashed a psychic attack to kill the man.
Yan Bu Bu remained limp in Feng Chen's arms, staring blankly ahead, still clutching the remote control tightly.
"Don't fight him, just shoot, shoot!" someone yelled.
As gunfire erupted, Feng Chen, carrying Yan Bu Bu, dashed forward. Behind them, iron plates sparked with a succession of sparks, as several machine guns continuously spewed flames. He then turned and leaped onto a nearby wall, the spot where he had just stood shattered by the bullet-riddled bricks and tiles.
Amidst the intense gunfire, knowing he was unharmed, Feng Chen, concerned about Yan Bu Bu getting shot, shouted, "Catch!" and tossed Yan Bu Bu into the air.
Sasa Ka leaped up at that moment, skillfully catching the person and landing steadily on the ground.
Bullets surrounded Feng Chen from front and back, leaving little room for evasion. Spotting a building across the street, he charged towards its door while mentally instructing Sasa Ka, "I'll hold them off, take him and go quickly."
Sasa Ka immediately carried Yan Bu Bu over the wall to the other side, heading towards the edge of the central city.
Feng Chen dove into the building, rolling halfway across the floor before leaning against a wall. He reached back and pulled out two bullets that had lodged shallowly in his skin.
He wasn't afraid of the guns in the hands of those outside, but to ensure Yan Bu Bu's safety, he had to wait for Sasa Ka to get him out of the central city before following.
The helicopter also took off, positioning its machine gun to strafe the door, leaving Feng Chen to stay against the wall without going out.
"Block the door and surround it, encircle the house. Aim for the head, remember? Don't shoot his body, only the head!" the people outside yelled repeatedly.
Sasa Ka trotted along the wide street. Despite its large size, its four paws with thick pads made no sound on the pavement.
Yan Bu Bu remained still but not rigid, just holding the detonator, his legs dangling at the creature's side. Fearing to jostle Yan Bu Bu, Sasa Ka dared not run full speed, striving to maintain balance while trotting.
Hearing intense gunfire from behind, Sasa Ka knew Feng Chen was holding off their pursuers. Ahead lay the edge of the central city, its giant metal net barely visible in the dim light. Once Yan Bu Bu was over the net, Feng Chen could follow.
The Black Lion was moving forward when it suddenly stopped, turning to look at a figure swiftly scaling the wall, reaching for Yan Bu Bu on its back.
Sasa Ka sprang up, swiping with its paw at the hand, landing simultaneously with the figure.
The figure flicked on a forehead light, revealing the face of Chen Sizhe in the beam.
Having fought others earlier, Sasa Ka knew its swipe would have caused injury, but Chen Sizhe's hand only showed faint marks.
Without further words, Chen Sizhe, having just regained his footing, lunged at Sasa Ka again, whispering into the communicator on his shoulder, "Bring the helicopter."
Feng Chen, leaning against the building wall, discerned the positions of his men from the gunfire. Suddenly sensing something, he straightened up, and the helicopter on the roof flew forward.
"You three, go down from the second floor, we'll cover the main entrance—" Before a subordinate could finish, a figure burst through a window, shattering the glass.
"He's out, shoot!"
Feng Chen pounced towards the nearest subordinate, seizing his machine gun mid-air, pressing the barrel under his chin, pulling the trigger while pushing him forward.
The subordinate, acting as a shield, took several bullets in the back and chin, his skull swelling with each shot.
Someone hidden behind a broken wall kept firing. Feng Chen hurled the corpse in his hands upwards, then executed a roundhouse kick. The body, like a cannonball, smashed into the wall, scattering bricks and dust.
The hidden assailant scrambled to rise, but a fist emerged from the dust, striking his face.
The blow burst the man's eyeball, caving in his cheek. Feng Chen then pressed the gun barrel into his throat. Two shots later, the second bullet pierced through the first bullet's hole into his brain.
In mere seconds, Feng Chen eliminated two of his men, stunning the others. Hesitant to approach, they fired in his direction.
Feng Chen dashed onto the main street, dodging bullets while looking ahead. Seeing the helicopter beginning to descend, he leaped onto a nearby wall and ran along its top, heading towards the helicopter.
Sasa Ka, agile yet burdened by Yan Bu Bu on its back, struggled to respond to Chen Sizhe's relentless attacks. Chen Sizhe, focused solely on Yan Bu Bu, attacked directly, causing Sasa Ka to shield with its body, quickly engulfing it in black smoke.
The helicopter roared overhead, blocking the way to the edge of the central city, its door-mounted machine gun spitting fire.
Sasa Ka, dodging both Chen Sizhe and the bullets, worried about Yan Bu Bu, decided to take refuge in the only house by the road, waiting for Feng Chen.
It turned and rushed toward the house, bullets pinging loudly off the ground behind it. Just meters from the house, it leaped towards the open door.
Sensing danger too late to stop, and unable to change direction mid-air, Sasa Ka landed just as a figure emerged from the darkness inside, delivering a fierce punch to its head.
Sasa Ka's head was shrouded in rising black smoke, Yan Bu Bu rolling to the ground. Chen Sizhe blocked the door while the helicopter's gunfire relentlessly targeted the creature, its massive form starting to blur.
Reduced to a wisp of smoke, Sasa Ka still tried to move towards Yan Bu Bu, as if to carry him again.
Chen Sizhe stepped forward, kicking the smoke twice, which finally dissipated into the air.
Yan Bu Bu stood up, still holding the detonator, staring blankly ahead like a true zombie, his dark eyes devoid of any expression.
Chen Sizhe pulled him forward, and he staggered along towards the helicopter.
Feng Chen jumped down from the wall, sprinting ahead. Bullets flew behind him, which he dodged with slight head tilts and side steps, without pausing.
His gaze fixed on the helicopter, he watched Yan Bu Bu being pushed into the cabin and Chen Sizhe following, turning to give him a mocking smile.
The cabin door closed, and the helicopter took off with a slight wobble.
Feng Chen’s arms swung rhythmically at his sides as he ran swiftly. But when he was still several meters away from the helicopter, it had already climbed high enough, crossing the giant metal net.
Feng Chen unleashed all his potential in that moment, rushing to the edge of the central city, quickly climbing the giant metal net, and leaping with all his might.
But he missed the helicopter's skid by mere inches, ultimately failing to grab on. The helicopter thundered ahead, while he plummeted to the ground below.
Feng Chen lay back in the air, watching the helicopter carrying Yan Bubu fly overhead. But the moment he hit the ground, he quickly got up and chased after the helicopter.
The surging horde of zombies ahead was blasted apart by his psychic power, creating a path. He sprinted through the wilderness, constantly looking up at the sky, miraculously maintaining the same speed as the helicopter.
His subordinates had just crossed the massive metallic net and landed on the ground, but they immediately found themselves surrounded by the zombie horde. Unable to use psychic powers, they pushed and shoved within the horde for a while before helplessly watching Feng Chen grow increasingly distant.
The vast wilderness stretched out before Feng Chen as he continued to chase the helicopter tirelessly. His hair fluttered in the turbulent winds stirred up by the rotor, and his clothes billowed.
The helicopter pilot looked outside through the porthole and asked, "Your Excellency Bishop, should we ascend a bit?"
Chen Size also gazed at Feng Chen below, chuckled, and replied, "No need, maintain this altitude and let him keep chasing."
"Understood."
He then turned his head to glance at the central city. "After dropping me off at the church, make another trip to pick them up."
"Yes."
"The number of people in the church is dwindling. Even if they are a bunch of worthless individuals, we still need to bring them back," Chen Size sighed.
The pilot didn't know how to respond and simply acknowledged.
Chen Size watched Feng Chen running beneath the helicopter, a smile on his face, and a hint of excitement in his expression. "Now it's about time to give a gift to the Eastern Union Army."
Yan Bubu remained crouched in the empty space by the seat, his head buried in his knees, tightly clutching the remote control, appearing calm. However, when Chen Size reached out to take the remote control from him, he emitted a fierce growl and turned to bite the hand on his shoulder.
"He really has turned into a zombie?" Chen Size withdrew his hand, suddenly chuckled, and scrutinized Yan Bubu. "I can't think of a reason for this situation; I must bring him back for thorough research."
He continued trying to pry Yan Bubu's shoulder, but Yan Bubu suddenly darted to the back of the cabin, crouched down, and tightly held onto the remote control.
Chen Size stood up and walked towards the back of the cabin, holding onto the handrail.
Yan Bubu's mind was in chaos, but deep within that chaos, there was a firm determination not to let go, absolutely not to let go...
However, at this moment, a glimmer of clarity suddenly appeared in his mind, like a gentle breeze blowing through thick fog. Though faint, it revealed the vague contours and traces within the mist.
His sluggish brain began to function again, and fragments of memories flashed through his mind rapidly. The smiling face of a handsome man also appeared in his thoughts.
It was as if sunlight had finally pierced through the dense fog. The lingering moisture that couldn't be dispersed evaporated rapidly in the intense light, and the view became clearer, revealing the world's true appearance.
"Brother..." Yan Bubu whispered in his heart.
He could feel that, although Nunun was severely injured and still recovering inside its eggshell, it was also absorbing the virus from his body. This gradually reduced the virus within him, and it finally allowed him to regain consciousness from the chaos.
"Nunun, you don't need to absorb anymore." In the moment of complete clarity, Yan Bubu suddenly opened his eyes. At the same time, he heard the voices of Chen Size and another person. "Your Excellency Bishop, the sentinel is still chasing us."
"Let him chase. We're about to leave the wilderness in the plane. We'll fly over two mountain ridges and reach the seaside. Let's see how he keeps up... I'll start by destroying the Yinxia Mountain and the camp."
Chen Size approached Yan Bubu from behind, reaching out to grab his arm. He had lost patience and was prepared to twist Yan Bubu's arm to take the remote control directly.
However, his outstretched hand missed, as Yan Bubu had already retreated from under his arm and swiftly stood behind him.
Chen Size turned to look at Yan Bubu and let out a soft exclamation, "You regained your consciousness?"
Yan Bubu did not respond, only quickly glanced outside the cabin.
Someone was running on the ground, following the plane. The figure was so familiar that he recognized it at a glance as Feng Chen. Although Chen Size was standing right in front of him, his heart was instantly filled with joy and excitement, and his eyes welled up with tears.
However, he immediately noticed something was wrong.
Why did his brother's face look... look... like he had also turned into a zombie?
However, Yan Bubu didn't have time to examine it closely, as images of consciousness flashed in his mind, and Chen Size was already charging towards him.
Chen Size's speed this time was quite fast, and he was confident that he could grab Yan Bubu. However, he didn't expect Yan Bubu to move almost simultaneously, leaping to the adjacent seat, evading his grasp.
Chen Size felt slightly surprised, but he continued to reach for Yan Bubu. Surprisingly, Yan Bubu seemed to anticipate his every move, cleverly avoiding his grasp each time.
Although this was a large military helicopter, the cabin was only the size of a room. Avoiding once or twice could be considered a coincidence, but after continuously missing his target several times, Chen Size sensed that something was unusual.
He was determined to bring Yan Bubu back and find out the reason behind this.
Frustrated by his repeated failures to capture Yan Bubu, Chen Size grew increasingly agitated. He attempted to pounce on him again, but Yan Bubu once more slipped through his grasp. At that moment, the helicopter suddenly tilted to the left, causing him to lose his balance and slide towards the cabin wall.
However, just as Yan Bubu had evaded Chen Size and moved to the side, he suddenly reappeared from behind Chen Size, holding a dagger and thrusting it toward the back of his neck.
Chen Size quickly turned his head to the right, but his shoulder was still grazed by the blade. Despite his enhanced muscles and bones, Yan Bubu was not an ordinary person, and the force behind the blow was considerable, causing the blade to pierce his flesh and create a narrow gash.
Chen Size reached back to grab Yan Bubu, but his attempt was futile, and at that moment, the helicopter started tilting to the right. He grabbed onto a nearby handrail and loudly questioned the pilot, "What's going on?"
The pilot, sweating profusely, was operating the helicopter, and he replied, "I, my hands and feet have gone numb."
Chen Size understood that this was the psychic power restraint of the guide. He quickly looked back at Yan Bubu but found that he was no longer in his original position. When he turned his head again, he saw another person standing behind the pilot, raising a dagger in his hand.
"Be careful!" Chen Size lunged forward, but Yan Bubu also attacked at that moment, thrusting his knife towards the pilot's head.
Halfway through his lunge, Chen Size suddenly realized that the pilot had received enhancements and wouldn't be afraid of this attack. However, before he could breathe a sigh of relief, he saw Yan Bubu's blade penetrate the pilot's skull and give it a brutal twist.
The helicopter plummeted to the ground amidst the pilot's screams, erupting in flames.
Chen Size held onto the handrail tightly in that moment. Three seconds later, the helicopter collided with the ground, creating a fiery explosion. He tried to open the cabin door to get out, but the door had been severely deformed and wouldn't budge.
He turned to look at the pilot and saw that the pilot's body had been dismembered, with his head nowhere to be found, and a sharp rotor blade embedded in the seatback. Yan Bubu remained motionless on the ground, with black brain tissue oozing from the back of his head, indicating he was already dead.
The flames grew more intense, enveloping his entire body, and the searing heat made his skin sizzle. He had to endure the pain as he groped through the thick smoke towards the pilot's position, attempting to exit through the cockpit door.
Inside the cabin, without smoke or fire, Yan Bu Bu was struggling with the pilot. The pilot’s neck bore several stab wounds, his skin black and bruised. The uncontrolled aircraft wobbled erratically, flying unsteadily through the sky.
Yan Bu Bu swiftly dodged when the pilot lunged at him, but seeing him trying to control the plane, he lunged with his dagger.
The pilot parried Yan Bu Bu's stabbing dagger and, seeing Chen Sizhe standing motionless in the cabin, shouted, "Bishop, Bishop..."
Chen Sizhe ignored his cries, his facial muscles twitching non-stop, his expression filled with pain, eyes fixed straight ahead.
"Bishop, Bishop." The pilot, wishing he could strangle Yan Bu Bu yet helpless against him, had to control the plummeting plane, suffering another slash on his neck from Yan Bu Bu.
Chen Sizhe, still struggling in the midst of the blaze, heard someone continuously calling him, and suddenly snapped back to reality.
No, this isn't right!
His body, modified, shouldn't feel pain, so where did this sensation of being burnt come from?
It was an illusion! An illusion created by a Guide.
Though his brain's membrane could block Sentinel's psychic attacks, it couldn't stop a Guide from setting illusions using psychic power.
Realizing this, Chen Sizhe deliberately ignored the burning sensation and flames around him, focusing hard on what was in front of him.
He saw, beyond the smoke, two figures fighting – the pilot and Yan Bu Bu. The bodies that were in the seats and on the floor had vanished.
Yan Bu Bu dodged the pilot's attack and seeing him fumble with the plane controls, stabbed his neck again.
"Ah!! You damn brat, you better hope I don't catch you!" Another cut on the pilot's neck, not fatal but infuriating him to the extreme, he roared in anger, swinging his fists at Yan Bu Bu.
Yan Bu Bu stepped back, and the pilot lunged forward. But as he moved, the uncontrolled helicopter tilted to the right, forcing him back to steady the controls.
This time, as the pilot raised his hand, Yan Bu Bu unleashed his psychic power. The pilot collapsed in his seat, limbs limp, watching helplessly as the helicopter plummeted.
Feng Chen kept running after the helicopter, observing its erratic swaying in the air, knowing Yan Bu Bu was fighting inside. As the aircraft neared the end of the wasteland and approached the mountains, his anxiety grew, yet no opportunity arose.
When he saw the helicopter suddenly start to fall, he knew his chance had come.
Fifty meters, forty meters, thirty meters, twenty meters…
Feng Chen suddenly accelerated, leaping onto a zombie's shoulder, then stepping off it to leap higher, stretching out to reach the helicopter's undercarriage skid.
This time, at the peak of his jump, his fingers finally grasped the skid, and with a flip, he swung himself onto it.
The psychic bindings Yan Bu Bu had around the pilot had vanished. Seeing the pilot reaching for the controls, Yan Bu Bu stabbed again.
"Ah!! I swear I'll chop you into pieces and feed you to the dogs!!" The pilot steadied the helicopter and gained altitude, forcibly enduring Yan Bu Bu's stab.
His neck was now riddled with cuts, the flesh grotesquely twisted. A few more strikes like that, and his head might not hold.
"Roar!" Yan Bu Bu let out a howl at him.
Yan Bu Bu was about to continue stabbing the wound when a sudden flash in his mental imagery made him squat down, feeling a cold breeze whisk over his head.
Chen Sizhe missed his strike, but the burning pain of the flames finally disappeared, and the cabin was no longer engulfed in fire. He glared darkly at Yan Bu Bu, swinging his knife repeatedly, cornering him to the left side of the cabin.
Yan Bu Bu, hunched over, watched Chen Sizhe's knife intently, ready to dodge. But Chen Sizhe, aware of his intent, pressed forward, cutting off his path.
"You wait, brat, I'm coming for you," the pilot ranted furiously.
Now above the high mountains, the pilot activated the helicopter's hover function, rising to join Chen Sizhe in capturing Yan Bu Bu.
The space inside the cabin was limited. With Binunu still recuperating in the psychic realm, Yan Bu Bu could handle Chen Sizhe alone, but the addition of the pilot made the situation perilous.
As the pilot lunged, Chen Sizhe thrust his knife. In Yan Bu Bu's mind, there were only two options: let Chen Sizhe hit his shoulder and escape under his arm, or dodge the knife and endure the pain of a dislocated arm from the pilot's grip.
Among the two, he quickly chose the latter. A dislocated joint could be reset later, better than having a hole stabbed through him.
Yan Bu Bu dodged the knife and lunged towards the pilot, getting his arm twisted in the process. He had to break free within half a second, or he wouldn't be able to avoid Chen Sizhe's next strike.
As the blade neared, readying to exert force with his arm held behind, the cabin door suddenly swung open.
A figure burst in as the door opened, and with the dull sound of a punch, the knife in Chen Sizhe's hand flew out of the cabin.
The cold wind rushed in through the wide-open door, causing Yan Bu Bu to momentarily forget to struggle, staring blankly at the person in front of him. Even the pilot behind him seemed stunned, still pressing down on Yan Bu Bu's arm.
Feng Chen attacked Chen Sizhe relentlessly, shouting, "Don't just stand there! Slam your head back at him!"
Yan Bu Bu's mind hadn't caught up yet, but his body responded to Feng Chen's command, his head jerking back, hitting the pilot behind him, and he heard the sound of a dislocated jaw.
In the midst of fighting Chen Sizhe, Feng Chen quickly turned and delivered a powerful punch to the pilot's face. The blow was so forceful that the pilot's eyeball popped out of its socket, allowing Yan Bu Bu to withdraw his arm.
Feng Chen then turned back just in time to block a kick from Chen Sizhe.
Blinded, the pilot roared and flailed his arms wildly. He stumbled to the cockpit and accidentally deactivated the helicopter's hover mode, causing it to dive downwards.
Yan Bu Bu, struggling to stand, slid towards the cockpit, while Feng Chen and Chen Sizhe also slid down. They quickly righted themselves, half-crouching on the windshield, and threw punches at each other.
As the helicopter dove, Feng Chen continued fighting, yelling, "Quick, get the helicopter back on course!"
"Huh?" Yan Bu Bu rolled and got up.
How to get it back on course? How to do it?
Feng Chen knew him well: "The control stick! The one in front of you! Push it up!"
The control stick was right in front of Yan Bu Bu. He grabbed it with both hands and pushed up. The helicopter, nearly crashing into the mountain, began to ascend again, while Feng Chen and Chen Sizhe continued their fight from the windshield to the center of the cabin.
Although blind, the pilot heard Yan Bu Bu and lunged at him, grabbing his neck. Yan Bu Bu couldn't let go of the stick and started kicking the pilot's abdomen.
The pilot was strong, and Yan Bu Bu heard his neck bones creaking under the grip. Feng Chen and Chen Sizhe were too engrossed in their fight at the back of the cabin to notice.
Pinned against the dashboard by the pilot, Yan Bu Bu's fingers left the control stick to pry at the pilot's fingers. The uncontrolled helicopter began to dive again.
The helicopter grazed past the highest peak, its rotor blades colliding with trees on the mountain, sending broken tree trunks whistling into the air and producing a grating crunch from the rotors.
As the helicopter plunged into the deep valley, Yan Bu Bu glanced at the dashboard and noticed a symbol for opening the cabin door, stretching his hand to press it.
"You brat, I'm going to strangle you—"
Before the pilot could finish his sentence, the door next to the pilot's seat burst open. Yan Bu Bu jerked his neck back and kicked out fiercely. The pilot's fingers slipped, and he fell backward out of the door.
Gasping for air, Yan Bu Bu lunged forward to the control stick and pushed it up with all his might. The helicopter righted itself and started to ascend again.
After stabilizing the helicopter, Yan Bu Bu realized they had flown over several mountains, and ahead was an endless ocean. Feng Chen and Chen Sizhe were still entangled in their fight, bending a metal frame next to the cabin.
Yan Bu Bu had no choice but to sit in the pilot's seat, preparing to turn the helicopter around.
Though he had learned to drive, controlling a helicopter was entirely different from a car. His maneuvers with the control stick caused the helicopter to rise sharply and then suddenly drop, swaying left and right in the air. The rotor, damaged from the collision with the mountain, kept making a jarring screeching noise, as if it might break off at any moment.
Feng Chen and Chen Sizhe continued to fight, sliding back and forth in the cabin, hitting the cabin walls with loud bangs. At one point, they nearly fell out of the door together.
Binunu was raging in Yan Bu Bu's mind. If it weren't for its inability to come out, it would have pushed Yan Bu Bu aside and taken over the controls.
