Chapter 124
byChapter 124
Once all the quantum beasts were positioned, Wang Suizi's koala appeared at her feet, slowly ambling toward the starting line.
The entire class watched it, observing how it took two steps, then paused. The instructor, seemingly used to this, just frowned and remained silent.
Wang Suizi, seeing her koala's sluggish pace, simply picked it up and placed it at the starting line.
"Ready—" the instructor raised his hand, and the quantum beasts crouched, ready to spring, emitting low, anxious growls.
"Go!"
At the instructor's command, the quantum beasts dashed off, running along the edge of the spacious training room. The previously quiet students suddenly burst into excitement, cheering them on.
Yan Bubu's gaze shifted back and forth between the quantum beasts and their owners.
He saw several quantum beasts suddenly veer left in their run, then quickly realign, and all together shift to the right, moving in unison. Their owners, equipped with the special glasses, stood still in their places.
He finally figured out what was going on.
These quantum beasts, unable to see the obstacles, relied on their owners who could see them and guide them through mental connection, enabling them to swiftly navigate around the obstacles while running at full speed.
"We're doomed!"
Yan Bubu glanced at Bunu beside him, and seeing its focused attention, he bent down and whispered in its ear, "We're going to be at the bottom of the class in this lesson."
Bunu looked perplexed, so he explained carefully, concluding with, "We don't have a mental connection. I can't tell you what I see."
After hearing this, Bunu showed no reaction, but slowly averted its gaze, no longer watching the other quantum beasts.
Yan Bubu, feeling a bit sorry for it, softly consoled, "Just go for a run and then come back. It's okay if we're last; after all, we won't lose to other quantum beasts in a fight."
The black lion gently nudged Bunu and comfortingly licked its face.
A bell rang inside the arena.
The instructor, looking at the display on his hand, announced loudly, "Lin Chenyu, eliminated!"
The student standing next to Wang Suizi took off her glasses and returned them to a nearby box, while a raccoon in the arena stopped running, dejectedly walking back. Passing by the instructor, it knocked over a stool with its paw.
The instructor looked coldly at the student, "Lin Chenyu, control your emotions."
The quantum beasts moved swiftly forward, dodging left and right with agility and speed. Only Wang Suizi's koala moved at its own leisurely pace, soon lapped twice by the other quantum beasts.
Though its advance was slow, its movements to the left and right were precise, dodging the invisible obstacles lightning-fast.
After each dodge, it would slow down again, even sitting down to rest at times, looking completely unruffled, out of place in the current tense atmosphere.
The entire course was five laps, and the quantum beasts crossed the finish line one after another. Besides the one eliminated midway, only Wang Suizi's koala was still slowly moving.
The students removed their glasses and rejoined the group, except for Wang Suizi who remained in her spot. The instructor glanced at his watch, "Two more minutes."
"Come on, Koala, you need to move faster, time is almost up!"
"Get moving, don't just sit there, start walking!"
Yan Bubu and the other students cheered for the koala, being rational enough not to urge it to run faster.
Unexpectedly, the koala that had been sitting on the ground, as if deciding that time was almost up anyway, just sprawled out and lay down.
Yan Bubu: "..."
When the two minutes were up, Wang Suizi took off her glasses and rejoined the group. Seeing her look dejected, Yan Bubu softly comforted, "It's okay, it might get faster eventually."
Wang Suizi asked with a wistful tone, "Do you really think that's possible?"
Yan Bubu's lips moved, but he couldn't bring himself to say the word 'possible'.
The instructor began reading the second batch of names. Yan Bubu was mentally prepared for an immediate elimination, but Bunu seemed not quite ready, looking nervous, its claws clutching the black lion's mane.
"...Chen Wenchao, Zhao Cui, Liu Siming."
After the second list was read, Yan Bubu and Bunu both breathed a sigh of relief.
Chen Wenchao and Zhao Cui put on their glasses, and the short-snouted crocodile and the big white goose positioned themselves at the starting line. The students watching from the wall side began to get noisy again, some knocking on the door panels, "Come on, go for it!"
"Ready—" The instructor raised his hand.
"Honk!" The big white goose had already flapped its wings and dashed out.
The instructor looked helplessly at Zhao Cui, "Cui Jie..."
"Sorry, let's start over."
"Ready—"
"Honk!"
After restarting three times, Zhao Cui's big white goose finally didn't rush out prematurely. However, at the first obstacle, while other quantum beasts dodged to the right, her big white goose headed left.
A bell rang.
"Zhao Cui, eliminated."
"How come so fast? Is there a mistake? My Xiao Bai just ran the route I gave it," Zhao Cui asked the instructor in confusion, removing her glasses, while her big white goose continued its forward charge, the error bell ringing incessantly.
The instructor, also wearing glasses, said expressionlessly, "You're supposed to dodge the red line, not run into it."
"Really? But wasn't the last lesson about hitting those yellow blocks?"
The instructor sighed, "Cui Jie, each class is different. Can you please pay a bit more attention to the lesson?"
Zhao Cui's big white goose reluctantly left the field, while the remaining quantum beasts continued.
Chen Wenchao's short-snouted crocodile was incredibly fast and agile, consistently staying half a body length ahead of the others. Unsurprisingly, it was the first to cross the finish line.
"Little Croc, you're so awesome, so impressive," Yan Bubu clapped enthusiastically, then excitedly asked Bunu, "Isn't Chen Wenchao's crocodile super impressive?"
Bunu just coldly stared at him, exuding an icy aura. After a couple more claps, Yan Bubu sheepishly withdrew his hands and fell silent.
"Next group, Yan Bubu, Wang Chendi, Liu Siyuan…"
Yan Bubu jolted upon hearing his name, and Bunu straightened up as well.
The students called by name began to move, except Yan Bubu, who still stood still. People near Yan Bubu started calling him, "Yan Bubu, your name was called, you're in this group, hurry over."
What had to come, eventually came. Reluctantly, Yan Bubu stepped out, glancing back as he walked to see if Bunu was following.
To his surprise, not only Bunu but also Sasaki had followed.
Yan Bubu took a pair of glasses from the box on the table and put them on, looking around for any abnormalities, then joined the other students in line.
Bunu and Sasaki positioned themselves at the starting line on the right side.
The other quantum beasts were already preparing, with the kangaroo hopping in place and loosening up its neck and wrists, looking quite experienced.
"Ready—" the instructor commanded.
Yan Bubu's heart raced as he saw the quantum beasts getting into position, with Bunu and Sasaki crouching low, eyes fixed straight ahead.
After a few seconds, the start signal was still delayed, and the instructor asked in confusion, "Yan Bubu, is the Selenium Frog your quantum beast, or is it the lion?"
"Ah? It's the Selenium Frog."
"Then why is the lion there too? This requires a mental connection, send the lion back," instructed the instructor.
Yan Bubu then loudly asked the black lion, "Sasaki, do you want to come back?"
The black lion shook its head.
The instructor said to Yan Bubu, "We are in class, in training. Its owner isn't here, just let it watch from the side. Don't let it disrupt here."
Hei Shi silently turned its head away, showing a refusal to return.
"Instructor, it doesn’t want to come back," seeing Hei Shi's reluctance, Yan Bubu knew it wanted to stay with Binu, and added slyly, "It's my brother's quantum beast, if it doesn’t listen, there’s nothing I can do."
The instructor was easy to talk to, and since it was only a training session, he didn't say anything more, just raised his hand, "Ready... begin!"
At his command, many red beams appeared around Yan Bubu. They were positioned around the training room, blocking the quantum beasts' paths, some even moving from side to side.
The quantum beasts at the starting line had already dashed out, with Binu being the quickest. In less than half a second, it had already surpassed the other beasts by half a body length.
Just as they approached the first red line, which was directly in front of Binu, Yan Bubu thought it would collide with it, but Sasa suddenly overtook it, slightly blocking its path to slow down its speed, allowing other quantum beasts to pass by.
This caused Binu to fall half a body length behind the other quantum beasts.
Reaching the first red line, the kangaroo and the otter were the first to dart to the right, followed closely by other quantum beasts from the trainees, also veering to the right.
Hei Shi kept an eye on the paws of the quantum beasts ahead. As they stepped to the right, it too pushed Binu to the right, so both of them managed to avoid the red line as they reached it.
Yan Bubu initially thought they would be eliminated at the first line but was surprised to see them pass, letting out a sharp scream of excitement and jumping on the spot.
Binu wanted to rush to the front, but Sasa continuously controlled its speed, blocking it every time it tried to accelerate, making it always follow behind the other quantum beasts, lagging by half a body length.
Sasa's eyes were also fixed on the paws of the quantum beasts ahead, nudging Binu to change direction simultaneously, so it too adjusted its course accordingly.
The quantum beasts swiftly ran, dodging one invisible barrier after another, and the large training ground echoed with the trainees' exclamations.
Everyone was unaware that Binu and Yan Bubu had no psychic connection, but knowing Hei Shi’s owner wasn’t there, they were shocked and impressed to see it keeping up.
"The lion is just following the other quantum beasts, right? But it looks like it's keeping pace with them."
"Yeah, it's just following. The key is it's so fast, only slightly behind the others, which requires strong observation and judgment skills."
"This must be Yan Bubu's brother's quantum beast, so impressive."
"Then his brother must be amazing too, otherwise the quantum beast wouldn't be this strong."
……
Yan Bubu was thrilled, hopping around and cheering for the two quantum beasts: "Go Binunu! Go Sasa! You're awesome, Binunu! You're awesome, Sasa!"
His glasses blurred his vision, so he took them off and waved them in his hand.
Wang Suizi saw this and hurried over to pull him back: "Why did you take off your glasses? You need to wear them."
Yan Bubu then remembered he had to pretend to have a psychic connection with Binunu and quickly put his glasses back on. Fortunately, the other students and instructors were focused on the quantum beasts in the arena and didn't notice him.
The kangaroo and the otter were always in the lead, neck and neck. But it was unclear who started it; as they ran, they began to trip each other, pushing and scratching, which slowed them down and allowed a gazelle to overtake them.
Sasa always looked ahead, calm and steady. It immediately switched its focus and, leading Binunu, followed the gazelle, overtaking the kangaroo and otter.
The quantum beasts ran with the speed of the wind, quickly completing four laps.
In the final lap, all the students were shouting and cheering. Yan Bubu screamed even louder, arching his back, his face turning red and veins bulging on his neck: "Go Binunu, go Sasa..."
The instructor, standing not far from him, simply covered his ears.
The otter and kangaroo sensed danger and stopped fighting, just sprinting head-down. Several quantum beasts exerted themselves towards the finish line, only half a body length behind each other.
The gazelle was currently in the lead, followed closely by Binunu and Sasa, and then the other students' quantum beasts.
The finish line was just ten meters ahead, with no more obstacles. Yan Bubu took off his glasses and shouted with his hands cupped around his mouth: "Just charge! Charge!"
The black lion, hearing his shout, nudged Binunu with its head and moved half a step to the side to give it space, no longer holding back its speed.
Binunu and the black lion had a great understanding. Binunu leaped up like a cannonball, surging forward, and just as the gazelle was about to reach the finish line, it crossed it first.
"Following closely were the indistinguishable black lion and gazelle, then the other quantum beasts, with the kangaroo and otter, initially in the lead, falling to the last positions."
"Aaaaah!" Yan Bubu, removing his glasses, rushed towards the two quantum beasts, embracing both Binunu and the black lion in his arms, exclaiming, "You're so amazing, so amazing! Aaaaah!" He then kissed each of the quantum beasts on their faces.
After being hugged and kissed twice by Yan Bubu, Binunu pushed his face away. Yan Bubu then playfully tossed it into the air, catching it on the fall and continuing the game.
Binunu frowned and stared at the ceiling that appeared near and far, yet did not struggle. The black lion watched silently, and when Binunu was put down, gently nudged its head with its black nose.
"There was a long break after the second lesson in the morning, so after class, Yan Bubu sent Binunu and Sasa back to the classroom and went upstairs to share the good news with Feng Chen."
"The upper floor housed three classes: two sentinel classes and one guide class. Yan Bubu found the second sentinel class and peered into the classroom from the doorway."
"A group of sentinels were arm-wrestling amidst deafening cheers, their quantum beasts wrestling in a heap on the ground behind the classroom."
"Feng Chen sat alone by the window, reading a book, seemingly unfazed by the surrounding clamor, exuding a calm and composed aura. A beam of light from above softened his facial features, making him appear both clean-cut and aloof."
"Upon laying eyes on him, Yan Bubu's heart seemed to be gently tapped, resonating with a humming echo. Everyone else blurred into the background, leaving only him in Yan Bubu's sight."
