Chapter 80: What’s Wrong, Little Bitter Gourd
byChapter 80: What's Wrong, Little Bitter Gourd
Leyan put the resignation letter back in place, staring at the bolded words for a long time, unable to snap out of it.
During the time he faced online abuse, there was one accusation about Yiyang. Netizens criticized Yiyang for not leading by example as a police officer, revealing scandals like keeping a mistress, and even committing acts of favoritism for a lover...
Numerous netizens reported it, but the outcome was unclear. However, it seemed to have had an effect.
Although the public opinion was not true, it might have influenced Yiyang's decision to resign.
There was another possibility…
Thinking about this, Leyan couldn't help but sigh for himself. In just one month, he seemed to have caused a lot of trouble for Yiyang. Running to the police station every other day, he was not at all trouble-free.
Leyan left the office, picking up the scarf he had left on the back of the chair, wrapping it around his neck, and then wandered to the flower bed at the entrance of the police station to sit and ponder life. In his hand, he held a piece of dry twig, and in his mouth, he gently blew the rabbit whistle Yiyang had given him a while ago.
Meanwhile, Officer Bai had just picked up a cup of tea in his own office. Without drinking, he glanced out the window and saw someone in the distance, alone and seemingly desolate. Although he couldn’t make out the expression, Officer Bai imagined the sadness that must be enveloping Leyan, from his hair down to his shoes.
Could it be that he had upset Leyan?
Officer Bai instinctively glanced at the clock on the wall, and then his heart skipped a beat as he heard the meeting room door open.
Knowing how much Yiyang cherished Leyan, he decided to nip any potential confrontation or questioning in the bud, holding his tea as he went to intercept.
Yiyang was still conversing with someone as he left the meeting. He glanced at Officer Bai, finished his sentence, and then took the tea from his hand. Freshly brewed, it was just the right temperature.
Yiyang: “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Old Yi, you know about Leyan hiding my stuff, right?”
“He hid them again?” Yiyang, holding the tea, turned into his office. Not finding the little rabbit there, he thought of checking the rest room.
Officer Bai grabbed him, “I just scolded him about that.”
"You scolded him?" Yiyang paused, not with a sense of blame, but rather with a hint of novelty.
From what he knew, this little rabbit only appeared innocent on the surface but had grown to not let himself be easily wronged. The beer bottle incident today was proof enough; it was quite fierce.
"He was hiding my snacks. All together, they'd make a whole basket, and some have even expired!" Bai Wei took the tea from Yiyang's hand, "But I didn’t really scold him, just threatened to hit him. I couldn't actually do it."
"Where is he?" Yiyang didn’t find anyone in the rest area. Could he have been scared off home?
"Just don’t let him exaggerate the story. What I'm telling you now is the truth," Bai Wei instructed before leading him to the door, nodding towards a figure, "Look, there he is, sitting for quite a while now."
For half an hour, Rabbit had been pondering over a resignation application.
It was so sudden. Yiyang had never mentioned this before. He must love his job, having stayed here so many years, putting in so much effort.
If it was really because of his frequent mishaps, Leyan thought he could consciously behave better. He wanted Yiyang to always stay in the field he loves and excels in.
"What's wrong, little bitter gourd?" Yiyang leaned next to him, taking the rabbit whistle from his mouth, "Blow softly, I can't hear you."
Officer Yi was about to say something heartwarming, but the little rabbit spoke first: "Honey, I've deleted all the random contacts from WeChat. Can you stop being mad at me?"
The scarf was haphazardly wrapped around his neck, having to stop to catch his breath after talking too much. Yiyang gently loosened it, wrapping it lightly around his chin.
"Do you think I'm angry with you?" Yiyang had thought Rabbit's unhappiness was because of Bai Wei, but it turned out to be him.
"You looked upset just now." The rabbit made him look at him, then mimicked the expression Yiyang had when he heard the words 'boyfriend' earlier that afternoon, "Like this, serious means unhappy."
"I was working on a case. Am I supposed to smile and ask questions?" Yiyang, with one arm around Rabbit's waist, jumped down from the flower bed with him, "I was uncomfortable, but not angry. Besides, being liked by others isn’t your fault. Baby should be proud, being so pretty and loved by many."
"Being liked by others is something we can't control," Leyan summarized his words, pondering and then adding, "The only thing we can control is whether to stay faithful, right?"
"Absolutely right." Yiyang ruffled Rabbit's hair with his hand, "My wife's hair has grown long; let's go to the hair salon soon, just trim a little bit."
Leyan grabbed a handful of his own bangs, which had indeed grown long enough to obstruct his eyes. He took back his rabbit whistle and pocketed it, then looked at Yiyang's cheerful face, suddenly making a decision in his heart.
Destroying the resignation application, Yi Yang had no way to leave his job!
Yi Yang packs up to leave work, with Yueyan following him closely. Unnoticed by Yi Yang, Yueyan stealthily slips the resignation letter into the innermost layer of his clothing.
When Yi Yang turns around, he sees the rabbit hunched over, fumbling inside his clothes. Yi Yang offers to help, but Yueyan quickly squats down, clutching his stomach, and insists, "No need to help."
His face turns red, caught in the act of mischief.
-
"Baby, are you saying you want to find a new job?"
At dinner, Yi Yang carefully picks out the bones from the fish and places the clean white flesh in Yueyan's bowl. Just now, the little rabbit suggested he wanted to continue working.
"Yes!"
The rabbit eats voraciously, his chopsticks clinking against the porcelain bowl. He's a rabbit of action; once he has an idea, he must bring it to fruition.
If he has a job, he would have to stay in Jiangbei, and maybe Yi Yang wouldn't think about resigning!
Yi Yang sets down his chopsticks and gently holds the rabbit's face, "Eat slowly. Life loses its flavor if we rush through even our meals."
"Life has no flavor? Husband, do you think life is flavorless?" That's why he wants to resign. Is it because of the turmoil I caused, he wants to resign!
Yueyan stops eating, "Husband, what job do you think suits me, aside from the zoo?"
Suddenly, the rabbit thinks that having a proper job might reduce his chances of causing trouble. A win-win situation!
"Hmm..." Yi Yang seriously contemplates this, thinking it's best not to work, but says, "Baby, you're smart and can learn anything quickly. At this point, it's not about suitability, but about doing what you love."
"What I love..." The rabbit doesn't have a particular passion, except for being by Yi Yang's side. His days without work have been relatively comfortable.
But he knows it's not feasible to live aimlessly. Yueyan doesn't voice this thought, instead saying he'll think about it more.
Before bed, while Yi Yang is in the bathroom, the rabbit resolutely tears up the resignation letter he brought from the police station. Having no place to hide it and not daring to throw it in the trash, he crumples it and tucks it into his coat pocket.
Perhaps due to dealing with the resignation issue, Yi Yang tells the rabbit that he has canceled his planned trip to Yicheng and might not go until January. The rabbit asks why, and Yi Yang says it's because he's busy with work and can't take leave.
For the next few days, Leyan devoted himself to being exceptionally well-behaved. He hugged Yiyang before work, cooked breakfast, and personally delivered lunch to him.
Today, in addition to the meal, Leyan brought some cakes and fruit, planning to bribe Bai Wei and subtly inquire about the situation.
Since the last incident, Bai Wei thought he and Leyan were on good terms, so he was surprised not only by the conversation but also by the array of treats Leyan brought. He didn’t hesitate to accept everything.
"If you have something to say, just say it. You're making me nervous," Bai Wei said, peeling a banana Leyan had brought. Eating two in quick succession, he added, "I've been a bit constipated lately; bananas are good for that."
"Have you been very busy lately?" Leyan asked, leaning across from him, peeling an orange.
"Not really, just some minor cases, nothing too demanding," Bai Wei glanced at him, "Why, is Yiyang not spending enough time with you?"
"He is," Leyan replied, placing a peeled orange in front of Bai Wei and taking another from the bag to continue peeling, "Officer Bai, how has Yiyang been doing lately?"
"There's definitely something up, Leyan, you're up to something!" Bai Wei narrowed his eyes suspiciously, "Don't you trust old Yi? Think he's flirting around? Feeling insecure?"
"No, no," Leyan thought he was being obvious enough, but it seemed Bai Wei was also unaware of Yiyang's plans to resign.
Or perhaps, Yiyang never intended to tell anyone about it.
Is Yiyang troubled by something? Humans are complex. If they harbor worries and choose not to share them, they can easily become depressed...
Leyan was worried about Yiyang, but he had become a person who knew his limits and couldn't directly ask about others' personal issues...
"Alright, alright, Leyan," Bai Wei, momentarily distracted, now had two rows of a dozen neatly peeled oranges in front of him, each the size of a fist. He suspected Leyan was exacting revenge under the guise of being nice!
"Eat, Officer Bai, eat. I bought a lot, don't be shy!"
Leyan still hadn't figured out Yiyang's thoughts. He disliked idleness when thinking, so he peeled another five oranges, two grapefruits, and finally cracked open a large jackfruit, squatting on the floor, thoroughly enjoying the task and making a sticky mess.
The result was that Bai Wei's office was once again off-limits to Leyan.
Unperturbed, Leyan brushed off his hands and headed into Yiyang's office, only to find the same resignation application in the same spot!
Clenching his teeth, he stealthily stole and destroyed it.
The next day, it happened again! Stolen and destroyed.
On the third day, still there! Yet again, stolen and destroyed!
When Yi Yang printed the sixth copy, he became too curious about why they kept mysteriously disappearing and decided to check the surveillance. Yan Shanting...
Le Yan promptly pulled him aside, complaining of hunger, "Husband, Sister Jin Jin said she left five minutes ago."
"Alright, let's head over now."
But Yi Yang insisted on checking today's surveillance, which only took a few minutes. In panic and guilt, Le Yan forbade him from watching and, in a moment of urgency, embraced him and kissed him passionately, confessing, "Husband, I love you very much."
Bai Wei, who came to complain, unexpectedly spat out a mouthful of hot water in shock.
--------------------
The rabbit schemed internally: If Yi Yang sees me in the surveillance, I'll claim I was sleepwalking. He surely won't blame a naive and adorable rabbit, sleepwalking with open eyes!
Guess what Rabbit Baby's next job will be!
