Chapter 34
byChapter 34: Ghost City Face-Slapping: A Stunt in Begging (2)
The man was called Li Er, a seasoned figure in the Ghost City. However, as an ordinary person, he had nothing valuable to offer. Eventually, he joined forces with Wang Da to run a scam involving staged accidents in the Ghost City.
Their targets were usually newcomers to the city who seemed weak and inexperienced. Thus, when the elegantly dressed Ye Xiyao emerged from the stone gate, they set their sights on her.
While Li Er was plotting his extortion, Ye Xiyao, her face concealed by a sheer veil, gave him and the feigning-dead Wang Da a sly glance. After a moment, she asked,
"Is it lawful to kill here?"
"No one is allowed to use force within the Ghost City," implying that although murder was not prohibited, any act of violence would draw intervention from the city's enforcers.
Understanding this, Ye Xiyao nodded. Li Er, initially startled, then wore a smug expression on his lecherous face and said,
"What? Does Miss here plan to silence us? Let me remind you, this isn't some other place. No matter if you're royalty or a city lord, you must abide by the rules of the Ghost City! So stop wasting time and hand over the silver!"
As Li Er spoke, he reached out his hand towards Ye Xiyao. But she ignored him altogether, walking instead to Wang Da's side and kicking him hard!
Well-versed in human acupoints, Ye Xiyao's kick landed precisely on a sensitive spot on Wang Da's thigh. Instantly, the supposedly lifeless Wang Da let out a howl and jumped up from the ground!
The onlookers were startled, and those who knew the backgrounds of the two exchanged astonished glances. It was known that Wang Da was no good at anything else but playing dead – not even a needle prick would make him flinch!
Who would dare to climb Mount Liangshan without some skill? But in this situation...
As for Li Er, he was utterly dumbfounded.
"Next time, improve your acting when you stage a fall, and make your death act more convincing," Ye Xiyao commented before turning away. Li Cheng, who had been standing dazed, finally snapped out of it and hurriedly followed her. In no time, they arrived at a humble tea stall, where Ye Xiyao spotted a familiar white figure.
"Not seeing you for a few days, I hope you've been well, Miss!"
Luo Jiutian, who was enjoying tea at the stall, greeted Ye Xiyao with a smile. Ye Xiyao was surprised to see Luo Jiutian there and hesitated for a moment before nodding in response.
"Wouldn't Miss like to sit down and have a cup of tea?" Luo Jiutian smiled invitingly as he noticed Ye Xiyao standing still. His already striking features became even more captivating with that smile, drawing the attention of passersby. Some women approached him, casting flirtatious glances, either subtly or overtly.
Unfazed by their advances, Luo Jiutian continued to smile warmly. Ye Xiyao couldn't help rolling her eyes and replied,
"No, thank you."
"Oh, in that case, alright then." Luo Jiutian was unusually prompt this time. Following Li Cheng's lead, the trio weaved through the streets until they arrived at an obscure shop entrance.
In the Ghost City, legitimate shops were scarce. This tiny establishment had a minuscule facade, nearly invisible without careful scrutiny. Upon entering, the interior was dimly lit, with only a senior, well into his sixties, sitting alone in a rocking chair with his eyes closed, seemingly meditating.
Hearing their arrival, the old man spoke without opening his eyes:
"The items are inside. Take a look for yourself and make an offer if you find something you like."
"What if the item is damaged?" Ye Xiyao asked suddenly.
The old man's eyes snapped open, a palpable aura emanating from him. He then said,
"If it's broken, I'll give you two for free! It's on the house!"
