Chapter 85: Reconciliation 1
by 石头星Chapter 85: Reconciliation 1
Due to her injured foot needing treatment, as soon as the mist cleared, Nunu's father planned to take her away.
Before they left, Nunu's father brought her over to say goodbye to Yun He and Gu Jiabei.
"Let's exchange contact information, brother," Nunu's father said with a smile. "We have a connection, and I like both of you. Let's get together again when we have time."
"Sure thing." Yun He generously exchanged contacts with Nunu's father and joked, "You're a big shot with millions of fans. I need to make good use of this connection."
"Oh, please, don't laugh at me," Nunu's father waved bashfully. Then, he spoke to Nunu, "Nunu, say goodbye to your brothers."
"Big Brother Yun He," Nunu gave Yun He a mischievous grin. "How come you look so radiant after just a short while?"
"You're a little devil," Yun He couldn't help but laugh.
"Is that so? Let me see. Hmm, you do look well," Nunu's father said, not understanding their inside joke.
"Big Brother Jiabei, even though you're scary, thank you for carrying me back," Nunu smiled at Gu Jiabei.
"Think nothing of it." Gu Jiabei's expression finally relaxed.
One by one, the group bid farewell and left. Gu Jiabei tidied up the campsite before taking Yun He down the mountain.
"Hehe." Yun He sat in the G-Class and kept grinning foolishly at Gu Jiabei.
Gu Jiabei frowned. "You're creeping me out."
"But I'm so happy!" Yun He laughed until his eyes were nearly shut.
"Well, take a look outside the car. Maybe that'll dampen your spirits."
"No way, how can the cliffs compare to the person right in front of me?" Yun He said with a grin.
Gu Jiabei was helpless; he gave up on trying to control Yun He and let him revel in his joy.
At the parking lot at the foot of the mountain, Yun He refused to get out of the car. "I don't want to drive myself back. I want to sit next to you and go home together."
"Then who will drive your car?" Gu Jiabei asked.
"I don't care, I don't know, I don't want it anymore."
"Be obedient, go back and drive," Gu Jiabei sighed.
"Well, then kiss me." Yun He pouted and leaned closer to Gu Jiabei.
"Haven't you had enough just now?" Gu Jiabei used his slender fingers to press against Yun He's forehead, preventing him from getting any closer.
"Not enough, not enough, never enough," Yun He shook off the finger on his head and coaxed, "Kiss me again, just one more."
Gu Jiabei reluctantly leaned in and kissed Yun He on the forehead.
Yun He swiftly seized the opportunity to give Gu Jiabei's lips a fierce peck, then hopped out of the car, content.
"I'll kiss you when I get home," Yun He smiled from outside the car.
"Are you waiting for me to get home so you can continue acting like a rascal?" Gu Jiabei raised an eyebrow.
"I've grown up, my rascality has become even more brazen," Yun He recalled their conversation from many years ago, when he had confidently vowed to Gu Jiabei, "I'll be a rascal to you when I come back."
Looking at the now-adult Gu Jiabei before him, Yun He's heart ached with unresolved pain from their shared past. He knew that only they themselves could heal each other's wounds.
"Gu Jiabei, I love you," Yun He whispered outside the car window, then waved. "Drive safely and let's head home together."
"Alright."
They drove for nearly four hours, stopping twice at rest areas, and managed to arrive home before darkness fell.
They returned to Yun He's place, and as soon as they entered, Yun He embraced Gu Jiabei.
"You're not tired after driving all day?" Gu Jiabei chuckled softly.
"Tired and dirty, actually. How about we take a shower together?" Yun He nestled his head into the crook of Gu Jiabei's neck.
"Go ahead first, I'll order some takeout," Gu Jiabei patted Yun He's buttocks gently.
"No, I want to wash with you," Yun He refused to let go.
"Are you really courting death?" Gu Jiabei narrowed his eyes. "Hurry up and take a shower, then come out to eat. Stop teasing me all the time."
"Oh." Yun He turned back three times on his way. "Then I'll have you after dinner too..."
"Yun, He!" Gu Jiabei gritted his teeth. "Go take a shower!"
Only then did Yun He obediently dash into the bathroom. Watching Yun He's adorable, playful figure run off, Gu Jiabei's lips curled up uncontrollably.
Taking advantage of Yun He's shower, he ordered takeout and made several calls to the office, dealing with the backlog of work that had piled up recently.
When Yun He finished bathing, he saw Gu Jiabei standing on the balcony, smoking while on the phone. "Mm-hmm, okay. Send me a copy of the proposal. Business as usual, just handle it."
"I'll need to stay a few more days for now. We'll discuss further once things are settled."
"How dare you speak to your boss like that? No respect at all."
"Not a romantic encounter, alright? Quit prying. Now get back to work and start your overtime."
Gu Jiabei hung up and saw Yun He. Walking over, he reached out to ruffle Yun He's hair, frowning. "Your hair isn't dry yet. You'll catch a cold easily like this."
Gu Jiabei gently pushed Yun He back into the living room and fetched a hairdryer, handing it to him. "Dry your hair."
"I want you to blow-dry it for me."
Gu Jiabei didn't refuse. He switched on the hairdryer and tenderly combed through Yun He's soft tresses with his fingers, patiently drying his hair.
"Inquire cautiously amidst the noise of the hairdryer, 'When will you be leaving? There must be an end to this work, right?'"
Gu Jiabei didn't catch the question clearly, so he turned off the hairdryer and asked again, "What did you say?"
"I overheard your phone call just now. Were your colleagues from the company urging you to return?" Yun He attempted to act nonchalant, but his nervous expression betrayed him.
Gu Jiabei nodded. "I've almost wrapped up my tasks here. At most, I'll stay another month before returning to the head office."
"Oh…" Yun He fell silent. He wanted to ask Gu Jiabei about their relationship—would they become long-distance lovers or would Gu Jiabei take him along?
But he didn't inquire, preferring to wait for Gu Jiabei to share his plans.
Gu Jiabei, however, remained silent, restarting the hairdryer to continue drying Yun He's hair.
"I can accompany you on your way," Yun He eventually spoke up.
"Let's talk about it later," Gu Jiabei didn't pursue the subject further.
