Chapter 26: Didn’t Expect the Empress to Be So Generous
byChapter 26: Didn't Expect the Empress to Be So Generous
Murong's face froze, and he released Lin Ling.
"Molingyun loves you so much. If you ask him yourself, he'll definitely give it to you!"
"Does Molingyun even deserve it?"
Murong knew she disliked Molingyun, but for his grand ambitions, he could only patiently reassure her.
"Just do it for me. Borrow some more from Molingyun. Once I ascend the throne in the future, won't everything be yours?"
Lin Ling pursed her lips and nodded reluctantly.
"Fine, I'll go back and get it from Molingyun!"
In the distance, Mo Cangyan, who had overheard their conversation, now wished he could slap Molingyun senseless for being treated like a dog without realizing it. He whispered to Xiao Feng, "Go out and kill that man. Leave no survivors."
Xiao Feng nodded and dashed forward, sword in hand.
Feeling someone approaching, Murong pushed Lin Ling aside and engaged the attacker in combat.
Lin Ling, witnessing the fierce duel, fled in fear, crying out for help.
"Someone, come quick! Murder!"
Mo Cangyan, frowning, rushed over with his face veiled, stabbing the attacker's leg. As he was about to sever the man's head, a horde of black-clad figures emerged from all directions.
Seeing this, Lin Ling scrambled away as fast as she could.
Noticing the disruption, Murong turned and dove into the lake, vanishing instantly.
"Kill him!"
The leader of the black-clothed men pointed his sword at Mo Cangyan, giving the order. A dozen of them charged towards him.
From a distance, Qin Fang noticed the Emperor surrounded and promptly warned Feng Xiyao, "Your Majesty, please stay here. I'll go assist the Emperor!"
Feng Xiyao, concealed behind a large tree, nodded anxiously. "Understood, go quickly!"
All three were skilled in martial arts, and within moments, they had reduced the black-clad assailants to just four or five.
Mo Cangyan stood aside, issuing a cold command. "Capture one alive!"
Upon receiving the order, the two immediately dispatched the remaining minions and apprehended the ringleader who had orchestrated the attack on Mo Cangyan.
"Speak, who sent you?"
The black-clad man remained steadfast, glaring fiercely at Mo Cangyan with defiance.
In the next instant, his lips moved.
"Feng Xiyao cried out, "Be cautious, Mo Cangyan! Danger!"
As her warning echoed, the black-clad man spat out a silver needle towards Mo Cangyan.
Suddenly, a figure dashed forward, intercepting Mo Cangyan. The silver needle pierced straight into that person's body.
"..."
Feng Xiyao, who had been running over, paused for a moment before quickening her pace.
Seeing that he hadn't hit Mo Cangyan, the black-clad man picked up the sword on the ground and slit his own throat.
Mo Cangyan reached out to catch the falling Kong Xue'er. Noticing the black blood trickling from the corner of her mouth, he checked for her breath.
Feng Xiyao rushed over and slapped him in exasperation. "There must be a monk in the temple who knows medicine. Hurry and take her to get treated!"
Xiao Feng went over to pick up Kong Xue'er and headed towards the meditation room.
Observing Mo Cangyan's indifferent stance, Feng Xiyao prompted, "Your Majesty, she was injured because of you. Aren't you going after her?"
"..."
Noticing Feng Xiyao's sincerity, Mo Cangyan frowned in displeasure. "Empress, I am your husband. Don't you care if I'm alright?"
Feng Xiyao replied, "Evildoers live long lives. How could anything happen to you?"
"Your Majesty, I was watching just now; you wouldn't have been in any danger!"
Hearing her words that concealed her true feelings, Mo Cangyan gazed deeply into her eyes for a long while before turning and leaving.
"What kind of attitude is that?!"
Seeing him leave with a cold expression, Feng Xiyao pressed her lips together unhappily.
Qin Fang approached from the side.
"Empress, with His Majesty's capabilities, those black-clad men couldn't have harmed him. It was only due to this young lady's sudden appearance that the attacker found the opportunity to take his own life!"
Upon hearing Qin Fang's explanation, Feng Xiyao looked up at him unhappily.
"No matter the circumstances, that girl saved Mo Cangyan. He shouldn't treat her so coldly!"
Realizing he wasn't getting through, Qin Fang spoke frankly, "Your Majesty is simply trying to avoid any suspicion, Empress!"
"..."
Feng Xiyao was puzzled. "Why should he avoid suspicion? There are so many women in the harem, and he doesn't avoid any of them!"
Qin Fang had always assumed that the Emperor was clueless about romantic matters; it seemed the Empress shared the same sentiment.
Thinking of this couple, he couldn't help but worry about the future successor of Great Xia.
...
When Kong Xue'er regained consciousness, she lifted her gaze to see a man other than the one she had been expecting standing by the door.
She asked, "Where's that young master? Is he alright?"
Xiao Feng replied, "My master is fine!"
Kong Xue'er sat up. "I want to go out and check on him."
Xiao Feng was accustomed to these women who secretly harbored feelings for his master. He supported her as they walked out.
Upon seeing Mo Cangyan approach, he said, "Thank you, Miss, for saving my life!"
Kong Xue'er's cheeks flushed slightly. "My lord, there's no need to thank me; I just happened to be passing by!"
Feng Xiyao rested her chin in her hand, observing the woman before her. She had a delicate appearance, like a refined and graceful young maiden.
Upon hearing that she had merely passed by coincidentally, Feng Xiyao couldn't help but chuckle.
"In such a remote place, who would believe it was just a coincidence? Another unfortunate woman captivated by the Tyrant!"
Mo Cangyan glanced down at Feng Xiyao, who was reveling in someone else's misfortune. A faint smile adorned her face, revealing no trace of jealousy over her husband being admired by another.
Noticing her, Kong Xue'er nodded in Feng Xiyao's direction.
"Gentleman, my wife and I came here to pay our respects to Buddha, but we were unexpectedly attacked. Thank you for coming to our rescue. How can we repay your kindness?" Mo Cangyan spoke calmly.
"Wife..."
Kong Xue'er was taken aback. She had initially thought this beautiful woman was the gentleman's wife, but her attire dispelled that notion. To her surprise, she really was!
Feng Xiyao raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
"Isn't she a maid?"
Seeing the young lady's distressed expression, Feng Xiyao felt a pang of sympathy.
"Imperial... Husband, shall we send this lady back home?"
Mo Cangyan nodded and turned to the woman. "Miss, we'll escort you back."
Still immersed in her sorrow, Kong Xue'er nodded, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Thank you, sir. I'll trouble you."
After giving alms, they prepared to descend the mountain.
Injury preventing her from moving freely, Kong Xue'er gazed at Mo Cangyan with tender feelings as they descended.
"Sir, would you mind carrying me down?"
Upon hearing this, the trio exchanged glances before all turning to Feng Xiyao.
Feng Xiyao was taken aback by the gaze. "What are you looking at? Do you want me to carry her down?"
Mo Cangyan had his hands behind his back, awaiting her intervention to save him from the awkward situation, but her words nearly choked him.
Then, she continued.
"Husband, Miss Kong was injured because of you. You should lend her a hand!"
"..."
Mo Cangyan gave Feng Xiyao a deep, frustrated look, as if he felt helpless about her lack of comprehension. Nonetheless, he did walk over to lift Kong Xue'er and carry her down the stairs.
Feng Xiyao pouted in dissatisfaction. Well, why was he staring? It's not like that woman saved me. Was I supposed to carry her?
Xiao Feng, behind them, chuckled and whispered into Qin Fang's ear, "I never expected Her Majesty the Empress to be so generous!"
Qin Fang smiled wryly in response.
He certainly didn't perceive the Empress as generous; she was simply insensitive!
ngl i love the shenanigans. MC has no reason to be jealous for a guy who’s for everybody.
