Chapter 81: Werewolf Community 18
by 雾爻Chapter 81: Werewolf Community 18
Mi Yang was stunned upon hearing Qin Fei's explanation. "You...
Are you messing with me?"
Which normal person would give themselves the nickname 'Princess Feifei'?
But Qin Fei wore an earnest smile, his amber-colored eyes clear and bright in the darkness. Mi Yang could clearly read two messages from them:
I'm telling the truth.
Believe it or not, it's up to you.
Mi Yang was briefly confused. Could it be that this handsome man in front of him had some sort of mental issue?
"Fei..."
Damn, I just can't bring myself to say it!
Mi Yang had a face as if he had swallowed a fly.
Mustering all his courage to overcome his mental block, he tried again, "Prin-"
No, no, no! The little figure in Mi Yang's mind was flailing its arms and legs in panic.
He couldn't say it.
The word "princess" just wouldn't come out of his mouth.
But calling him just Feifei seemed odd too, as if it implied an overly intimate relationship?
Mi Yang recalled a female classmate from his high school days, also named Feifei, who was exceptionally beautiful. Back then, more than half of the boys in the class had had a crush on her.
Including Mi Yang himself.
Mi Yang's expression twisted in discomfort.
Struggling to delve into his limited vocabulary, he finally settled on an approximate term:
"Brother Feifei!"
This was Miyang's last desperate attempt.
A man could lose his life, but not his masculinity!
Qin Fei: "Pfft."
It was truly hard not to laugh.
Joining Qin Fei in laughter were nearly 200,000 spectral spectators in his live stream.
The nickname "Brother Feifei" was too sanity-dropping. It was even more terrifying than the bizarre ghosts lurking outside the door.
Sobbing cries of despair echoed through each live stream hall.
"Help, help, help, I'm dead! How can I ever look my wife in the eye again after this?!"
"The combo of Feifei and Brother... I visualize a delicate and frail Lin Daiyu wielding an ax, ascending a mountain to hunt tigers."
"I laughed so hard it sounded like a rooster crowing at 3 am, waking up primary school kids within a ten-mile radius, making them believe it was dawn and time for school."
"Compared to Xiao Qin, I can't bear to look at Mianyang more. Mother's silly eldest son, did he leave his brain at home today?"
Countless words boiled down to a unified chant:
"Mianyang often walks by the river, how could he not get wet? Always playing tricks on others, now it's finally his turn to be the victim!"
If Mianyang were to check his status panel at this moment, he would notice a slight decline in his live stream viewership, as they started drifting towards other streams.
In the live broadcast, Mianyang had successfully convinced himself and called out to Qin Fei without any hesitation: "Brother Feifei, let's discuss our next move."
The thin door wouldn't hold for long; the ghosts outside were growing restless.
The ghost infant crawled out of its domain, using all four limbs to cling to the door like a gecko, seemingly intrigued by the ghosts beyond.
Mianyang's gaze was fixed on the swaying door, a hint of irritation flickering across his brow. In a blink of an eye, his appearance transformed.
Before him stood a young man in a loose-fitting jacket, appearing to be in his early twenties. His sharp features and unruly demeanor gave off an air of nonchalance. His black hair, paired with dark eyes, had ends that curled messily outward.
Qin Fei took a glance and casually averted his gaze.
Mi Yang: "#&%!"
In the past, when he would reveal his true face to other players, it would always leave them startled.
Seeing this Prince Charming act as if nothing was out of the ordinary truly irked him.
"Hey!" Mi Yang bent his long legs and gently nudged Qin Fei with his knee. "Do you have any ideas?"
With them on the brink of being trapped here forever, why could this guy still remain so calm and composed?
Qin Fei's eyes were slightly lowered. Compared to Mi Yang, his appearance was much softer. The oxygen deprivation from the long sprint had made his skin unnaturally pale. He sat curled up in a corner of the room, appearing harmless. When he looked up at Mi Yang, his clear light-colored irises were filled with gentle tranquility.
Suddenly, the other side felt a bit guilty.
...Why did he always feel like he was bullying an innocent person? Damn it!
"Well then—" Mi Yang held his fist to his lips, about to say something to ease the tension, when Qin Fei suddenly spoke, "We need to find the emergency exit."
Mi Yang: "Huh?"
"There should be an elevator in a building this tall."
Qin Fei's eyes narrowed slightly.
But after running around so many times, he hadn't seen any sign of an elevator.
Without an elevator, that path was closed off. Their only option for going downstairs now was through the emergency exit.
The room before them was square and barren, barely measuring twenty square meters with not a single piece of furniture. The floor was so smooth that even a fly would stumble upon entering.
If this room was like this, chances were high that the others would be similar.
Searching for a telephone in rooms on a high-rise residential floor would be meaningless.
The slender, articulate fingers of the young man traced an unknown pattern on the ground, "There's only one way for us to leave safely."
"We're currently on levels 16 to 18. We need to figure out how to reach the emergency stairway again and rush straight down to the first floor."
"Only when the first floor merges with the external space will we be able to find the exit from this building."
"But," Mian Yang's expression was odd, "the monsters outside have blocked all the entrances. How could we possibly get out?"
It was a sound plan, but the first step was already impossible.
Qin Fei leaned back against the wall with an air of nonchalance, as if the current predicament was no big deal: "We can get out."
Mian Yang: "How?"
Qin Fei glanced at him: "That's something you need to answer."
Mian Yang: "?"
Why was he being asked again?
Qin Fei's eyes held a cryptic glint as he sat up, staring intently into Mian Yang's eyes: "You have a way to escape."
His tone was absolutely confident. Mian Yang's expression turned odd. How could he know?
Curious eyes landed on Qin Fei, but Qin Fei pretended not to notice. "Maybe with a skill, maybe with an item, or perhaps... Anyway, you must have a way."
This advancement match included players of various ranks, from pure newbies to A-level powerhouses. To maintain balance among the players, the game difficulty couldn't be too high.
Since Mian Yang was an A-level player, he was at the top of the food chain in the dungeon. What might seem like a life-or-death scenario to lower-level players could be nothing more than a playground filled with ball pits for high-level players.
This was evident from Mian Yang's behavior after entering the room.
Not once did fear of death show on his face throughout the entire time. The agitation he displayed was superficial, not reflecting any worry about their current predicament. Instead, it seemed as if he was tired of being chased by those ghosts outside and eager to escape this scene to explore something fresh.
In short, if Mian Yang genuinely wanted to leave the room, those ghosts outside wouldn't be able to hold him back.
Sitting here discussing strategies with Qin Fei was merely a way to pass the time out of boredom, using Qin Fei as a distraction.
"Am I right, huh? Big shot?" Qin Fei didn't reveal any anger or aggression. His handsome features were wreathed in a smile, his tone rising slightly at the end, tugging at Mian Yang's nerves and turning his face dark.
His joy derived from toying with other players, not from being seen through by them.
Qin Fei revealed his mischievous thoughts with such casualness that he seemed more like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum.
The audience in the live stream burst into laughter.
"Laughing to death, hahaha! Wife: Am I also part of your game?"
"Miyang looks like a heartbroken little darling, hhh."
"So," Qin Fei continued, "think of a solution, big shot. The door is about to be kicked down by ghosts."
"I'll think of a way. What about you?" Miyang gritted his teeth.
"I'm just a weak, pitiful, and helpless D-level player," Qin Fei said confidently, "Of course, I have to rely on you."
"Are you not afraid that I'll throw you out to feed the monsters?" Miyang raised an eyebrow at Qin Fei with a menacing expression.
Qin Fei grinned and said, "You won't. You're a good person."
Miyang: "..."
Why does conversing with this person always feel like punching into a pillow, leaving one utterly drained?
Who would want to be given a "nice guy" card at a time like this? !
"And," Qin Fei spoke casually, finally revealing the truth, "without me, you won't be able to leave this building."
The rules mentioned in the Night Patrol couldn't possibly be meaningless. Qin Fei was more than 95% certain that even if they successfully reached the first floor, they still wouldn't be able to exit the residential building without making that call.
Mi Yang had never been to the security booth and was unaware of this fact.
Mi Yang paused in surprise.
This rookie player had suddenly blurted out such a statement without any prior context. For a moment, he couldn't tell if the other party was being serious or not.
His expression didn't seem to be joking around.
"What do you mean?" Mi Yang probed cautiously.
It seemed that Her Highness the Princess knew something he didn't.
Princess didn't take the bait: "You'll find out when the time comes."
Mi Yang: ".... Will you or won't you say? If not, I'll end you right now."
The commoner dared to defy the princess, defying her authority with a fierce glare at Qin Fei.
Qin Fei leaned back even further, adopting an indifferent posture that seemed to say, "Go ahead if you dare": "Do as you please. You won't survive either if I'm dead."
Mi Yang: Damn it, how can this damn thing talk so infuriatingly??
The fearless have nothing to lose, and indeed, the ancients spoke the truth.
"Fine." Mi Yang's right hand cracked his left knuckles with a series of pops. "Just wait, I'll take you out right away."
If he turned out to be useless after they got out, well, let's just see what happens!
With that, he stood up.
The ghosts outside the room grew more restless, some even banging on the door. The ghost infant had long retreated into its own domain. In a flash, Mi Yang transformed back into his old man appearance.
San Tu's prior intelligence was spot on; Mi Yang's innate talent skill indeed resembled that of a mental-type thief.
His skill was extraordinary. Apart from stealing instance information from NPCs, once the theft value against a specific NPC reached 100, he could also pilfer their abilities and appearance.
This old man was one of Mi Yang's targets in a B-level instance. He didn't deal much damage, but he had an enormous amount of health.
Mi Yang possessed several more useful character appearances, alas, the highest threshold for using skills was limited by the level of the instance players found themselves in. Those appearances stolen from A-level instances couldn't unleash their full potential in R-level ones. Comparatively, this B-level appearance was more suitable.
"Let's go."
Mi Yang stood up, pulling Feifei behind him. He took out a B-level protective barrier item and tossed it onto the floor in front of them.
An invisible bubble immediately emerged in the air, enveloping the two within.
As Mi Yang reached for the door, the bubble reshaped itself, akin to a transparent membrane wrapping around his body.
The moment he opened the door, the chaotic cacophony in the corridor outside suddenly fell silent.
During the few minutes they'd hidden in the room, the ghosts had already blocked the entire hallway.
Hundreds of eyes fixated on the entrance, their grotesquely distorted ghostly gazes glowing with intensity.
Tik. Tik.
The sound of drool dripping onto the floor echoed from the monsters.
Even as an A-level player, Mi Yang couldn't help but shiver at this sight.
His godfather, how could there be so many ghosts outside??
Mi Yang suddenly felt like he had been backstabbed by the princess behind him.
He was certain that at least three-quarters of the ghosts outside were lured by his brother Feifei. When he was running down the corridor earlier, although there were also quite a number of monsters chasing him, it was nothing compared to this overwhelming scene before him.
He began to suspect that Feifei might have intentionally run the same route for their escape, just to make him do all the hard work now.
Mi Yang's eyelids twitched as he glanced over his shoulder.
So, what on earth did this guy do to the NPCs to incur such animosity?
No matter how resilient the old man's image was, it couldn't withstand the attacks of so many ghosts.
Mi Yang gritted his teeth and pulled out another dark, bomb-like item from his inventory, flinging it into the mass of monsters.
"Bang!" The bomb exploded with a loud noise.
Horribly disfigured limbs flew everywhere, while putrid fluids splattered against the surrounding walls. The ghosts roared and howled in fury.
The bomb's power was considerable, instantly clearing a roughly one-meter-wide circle around the entrance.
"Don't throw any more bombs," Qin Fei calmly reminded him from behind.
Cracks had already started to appear on the left side of the floor. Another bomb might collapse the building.
Mi Yang went berserk, "I KNOW!!"
Mi Yang was in a bind. He had quite a few area-of-effect damage items on him, but all of them dealt high damage. The bomb he just used was actually the most gentle one among them.
Mi Yang was a Thief, not a Mage; he couldn't chant spells on the spot for precise area-of-effect attacks. If he couldn't use items, his only options were to rely on NPC-like skills and—close combat.
The skill of the elderly NPC was speed, which was utterly useless in this situation.
"Stay close!" Mi Yang gritted his teeth and shouted. He pulled out a pair of short swords from his inventory and slashed the nearest Skinflayer's throat with a backhanded swing.
Qin Fei wouldn't need a reminder to keep up.
Mi Yang had excellent base stats and combat skills. The monsters in the hallway only had the advantage of numbers. With him at the forefront, he hacked and slashed desperately to create an opening.
The protective bubble's duration was only three minutes. As he raised his hand to cast another, his body was already splattered with the sticky monster fluids and blood during the brief interval between the two items.
In contrast, Qin Fei strolled leisurely along the path that Mi Yang had cleared.
He didn't have to fight, and he was protected by the bubble, so he remained clean and composed, as if he was taking a stroll amidst the monsters. He walked with a relaxed gait, seemingly unaffected by the chaos around him.
Mi Yang's molars ground together in frustration. "Where the hell is the emergency exit?!"
Qin Fei replied gently but coldly, "I don't know. Keep going, do your best, victory is just ahead."
Mi Yang: Damn it, can't you stop talking to me like a boss manipulating their subordinate?
Frustrated, Mi Yang ignored Qin Fei and vented his irritation on the monsters surrounding them.
After half an hour, Mi Yang finally cleared the long corridor.
If he hadn't been with Qin Fei, he could have found much easier and quicker ways to pass through. But with a burden following him, the poor thief had no choice but to exert himself, battling his way like a primitive warrior.
As he burst out of the monster crowd, Mi Yang let out a huge sigh of relief!
Monsters were still pouring out of rooms on both sides of the corridor, and it wouldn't take long for them to form another encirclement. Turning to Qin Fei, Mi Yang said, "Go ahead and find a safe passage as soon as possible."
A gust of wind brushed past him, and there was no sign of Qin Fei behind him!
From up ahead came a drawn-out voice, "Remember to clean up my trail—"
Mi Yang: Pinching someone's philtrum (a spot between the upper lip and nose) could help to revive them.
After merging three floors into the 18th, the terrain became incredibly complicated. In the following ten minutes, Mi Yang painfully endured being the target of countless enemies.
In his entire life, he had never been targeted by so many ghosts at once!
A relentless tide of monsters surged towards them.
Mi Yang felt as if he had transformed into a dam holding back a flood, wielding two blades to forcibly separate Qin Fei from the monsters.
It was clear that those monsters were all after Qin Fei. When blocked by Mi Yang, they roared in frustration, trying to break through him. Their glowing ghostly eyes fixated on Qin Fei's retreating figure.
Mi Yang skillfully slashed through the air, slicing them into pieces.
At this point, Mi Yang found himself more convinced than ever of Qin Fei's claim, "Without me, you won't be able to leave this building."
Mi Yang suspected that there was something hidden within Qin Fei, perhaps even the key to unlocking the door downstairs.
Otherwise, why would those ghosts react to him as if they had caught a glimpse of their most desired treasure, their eyes glowing with an eerie green?
Amidst the battle against the monsters, time ticked away. Around the corner not far away, Qin Fei finally caught sight of the emergency exit once again.
"Quickly, go!" Qin Fei turned to Miyang and urged, pushing the door open and rushing in first.
There were no monsters in the emergency exit, but as the two of them ran up the stairs, sounds came from behind the closed doors they passed.
They sped up, dashing through the pitch-black hallway.
Miyang said, "I'll go out first. You follow right behind me."
Monsters had already begun to pour into the stairwell from the floors below, but they weren't as fast as the two players. They were now about one floor apart, not posing an immediate threat.
Based on their previous experience, once they burst through the safety exit on the first floor, the entire building would flatten into a large single-story space. Undoubtedly, countless monsters would be waiting outside.
Just as Miyang was speaking, Qin Fei grabbed the back of his collar. "We're here."
"Huh?" Miyang glanced down at his feet. "Are we there? But there are still stairs ahead."
There were no floor indicators in the stairwell, so Miyang wasn't sure which floor he was on.
Qin Fei had already spun around and kicked open the door beside them.
Mi Yang couldn't keep count, but Qin Fei had been meticulously tallying.
After the top three floors merged, they emerged on the 16th floor and descended all the way down to the first floor, without a doubt.
As for why there were still stairs leading downward—
Qin Fei recalled that the werewolf community's building didn't have a basement. Technically speaking, this 14th building shouldn't exist within the community at all.
He wasn't sure what lay beneath, but it was bound to be something sinister.
Just as Qin Fei had said, they had indeed reached the ground floor. Kicking open the door, they could see the glass exit door not far ahead.
Mi Yang's eyes lit up like bulbs; his lungs felt like they were about to burst from running, and he eagerly wished to escape this damned mission scenario.
The path outside wasn't yet obstructed by monsters, so Qin Fei dashed out ahead of Mi Yang.
After dashing out of the stairwell, Mi Yang slammed the doors shut and pulled out a chain from his space to secure them.
Then, with long strides, he raced towards the main entrance.
Five seconds later, Mi Yang was standing at the door, furious as a dog whose bone had been snatched away.
"Damn it!" Mi Yang yelled loudly. "Why the hell can't this damn door be opened?!"
As an experienced player, Mi Yang's observational skills were keen. He quickly realized that it was a card-swipe door, and the card slot wasn't inside the room.
He had been relentlessly chased by the ghost from the 18th floor all the way down to the first, his mind nearly short-circuited. Dazed, he turned to Qin Fei and asked, "Didn't you say you had a plan?"
While Mi Yang was wailing like a banshee, Qin Fei hadn't even glanced at the glass door from the start.
When Cui Ran had walked out of the building, Qin Fei had secretly peered inside.
There was a reception desk by the entrance, but at that distance, Qin Fei couldn't see what was on the desk clearly. However, if there was any place in the building where a phone might be hidden, it would only be there.
Their luck was good – a telephone was placed prominently on the registration desk. Qin Fei swiftly dialed a number. After a few rings, the old security guard's voice came through the receiver, "Hello—"
Mi Yang had already accepted his fate. He took out the last protective bubble from his backpack, placing it in front of Qin Fei who was speaking with the old security guard, and began to fight the monster obediently.
Three minutes later.
With the assistance of the security guards who hurried over, the two players finally managed to leave the building safely.
Outside, the day was already bright and sunny.
The group of players led by Xue Qimai had noticed the old man's disappearance but didn't give it much thought. They had returned to the Activity Center over an hour ago.
Only Lin Ye and Ghost Fire San Tu sneaked back out after joining them, circling back to this location once more.
Both Ghost Fire and San Tu wore grim expressions, while Lin Ye was also anxious, yet he held a premonition deep down: he felt that Qin Fei couldn't possibly have met with misfortune here; he would come out sooner or later.
Despite waiting anxiously, Qin Fei remained nowhere to be seen.
Just as the trio was growing increasingly restless, the old security guard reappeared, opening the building doors as Qin Fei and Mi Yang emerged from inside.
"Thank goodness! You're okay!" Ghost Fire leaped up on the spot.
San Tu and Lin Ye greeted them with relieved smiles.
Having cheated death, Mi Yang was equally excited, "I owe my escape to Brother Fei Fei this time!"
Princess, it seemed, was not lying after all. If Qin Fei hadn't made that call, Mi Yang might have fallen in this building.
Mi Yang patted Qin Fei's shoulder sincerely.
The other three, upon hearing this startling title, couldn't help but gasp in shock.
Qin Fei, now inexplicably bearing an extra princess identity, still had to fulfill his responsibilities and duties as Wang Mingming.
It was just past seven in the morning, so Qin Fei decided to head home first before going to the liver and tripe restaurant.
Yesterday, he had begged the restaurant owner for a volunteer job, so he certainly couldn't forget about it today.
As Qin Fei returned to the Wang residence, San Tu and the others went ahead to check the situation on the commercial street. The five of them parted ways at the intersection.
Building 12, where Wang Mingming lived, was not far from the haunted Building 14. Qin Fei circled half of the square and soon arrived in front of his house.
He took the elevator up, pulled out his keys, and unlocked the door.
Inevitably, the moment he opened the door to his home, he received another chilling stare from his parents.
"Mom and Dad, I'm home."
Qin Fei smiled at the NPC couple standing behind the door, subtly casting a glance with the corner of his eye towards the corner beside the elevator behind him.
A figure was lurking there, behaving suspiciously.
