Chapter 226: Collecting the Corpse
by 切个闹Chapter 226: Collecting the Corpse
"Although Qian has been sent back to Qian Village, her family has already left. The burial arrangements still need to be handled by you."
They had helped report the incident out of consideration for being fellow villagers, which was already an act of great kindness.
Now that Qian was dead and her body in such a state, they truly did not want to assist with any further arrangements.
Wang Dashan finally came to his senses.
"I understand. We'll clean up and go handle it." he said.
No matter how many wrongs his mother had committed, now that she was dead, everything should come to an end.
He needed to collect her body.
Wang Dashi looked at his nephew, frowned, but said nothing.
Wang Laoshuan watched his son stride into the house and quickly followed him.
The people from Qian Village, seeing this, did not linger any longer.
The message had been delivered, and Wang Dashan had agreed to go to Qian Village to deal with Qian's corpse. They could leave now.
Thus, the people from Qian Village directly bid farewell to Wang Dashi.
Inside the house.
Wang Dashan went straight to the bed and took a mat, then headed outside.
Seeing this, Wang Laoshuan quickly stopped his son.
"Why are you taking the mat?" he asked.
Wang Dashan looked at his father and said, "To wrap her body."
Given their current situation, buying a coffin was out of the question.
A proper burial was also impossible.
All they could do was use a mat to wrap the body and find a place to bury her.
Wang Laoshuan's expression changed slightly, and he reached out to stop his son again.
"Her cousin's family must have mats. Don't take ours," he said.
Wang Dashan was taken aback.
He looked at his father.
Even at this moment, he was still thinking about this—
Wang Laoshuan averted his gaze but remained firm in his stance.
Wang Dashan sighed inwardly.
He felt his father was cold-hearted, but wasn't he the same?
"Just take it as a precaution. If Qian's family has one, we'll use theirs. If not, we'll use this one," he said.
Wang Laoshuan hesitated, then stepped aside.
Then he followed his son out the door.
In the courtyard, they realized that the people from Qian Village had all left.
Wang Dashi saw the father and son and approached them.
After inquiring about the situation, he joined them, each carrying a shovel.
Together, the three set off for Qian Village.
Upon arriving at Qian's cousin's house in Qian Village, they smelled a foul odor as soon as they reached the courtyard.
Wang Dashan hesitated for a moment before pushing the door open.
Inside the courtyard, there was chaos, and a mutilated corpse lay in the center.
From the clothing, it was clearly Qian.
"Ugh—" Wang Laoshuan couldn't suppress his nausea and ran to the side to vomit.
Wang Dashi quickly covered his mouth and nose with his sleeve and reminded Wang Dashan to do the same.
"Given how hot it is, who knows how long she's been dead. There are so many maggots!"
After covering his mouth and nose, Wang Dashan did not immediately approach the corpse but entered Qian's house.
After moving away from the corpse, the stench finally became more bearable.
"Find some cloth to make masks, and also find two mats to wrap the body," Wang Dashi said.
"Okay!" Wang Laoshuan and Wang Dashi quickly responded.
They then began searching through the Qian family's house.
Wang Dashi first checked a side room and the kitchen in the Qian residence. The side room was empty, with no mats or even bed curtains.
The kitchen was even cleaner, containing only half a bucket of clear water and some dried wild vegetables.
He sighed inwardly at how heartless the Qian family was, then heard his second uncle say he had found some cloth.
Seeing the clothes in Wang Dashi's hands, Wang Dashi realized what his second uncle had found.
Indeed, it was his mother's spare clothes.
"Tear them up to make masks," Wang Dashi said.
The Qian family had stripped their home clean when they left.
Apart from his mother's clothes, there was no other cloth to be found.
Sure enough, a moment later, Wang Laoshuan came out empty-handed.
"No cloth or mats were found! The Qian family is truly heartless!" Wang Laoshuan said angrily.
Not taking Qian Shi with them was one thing, but they didn't even leave a mat for her.
He glanced at Qian Shi in the courtyard, and the hatred in his eyes faded somewhat.
"Let's use the mat I brought," Wang Dashi said.
A flicker of struggle crossed Wang Laoshuan's eyes.
In the end, he did not object.
Sigh, another mat wasted from the family.
"Father, come help me dismantle a bed board so we can carry the body," Wang Dashi added.
"Alright," Wang Laoshuan quickly agreed.
Then father and son entered another side room in the Qian residence.
After a series of "bangs" and "clanks," they dismantled a bed board from one of the beds.
When they carried the bed board out, Wang Dashi had already made the masks.
So the three of them put on the masks and approached the corpse.
As they got closer, Wang Laoshuan almost vomited again upon seeing Qian Shi's body.
Wang Dashi and Wang Dashi also looked terrified.
But Wang Dashi had no choice; he took a deep breath and approached with a mat.
Despite the revolting flies and maggots, he moved Qian Shi's body onto the mat.
Unfortunately, the body was severely decomposed, and this movement nearly split it in two.
Seeing this, Wang Dashi couldn't bear it and stepped forward to help.
Together, they managed to place Qian Shi into the mat and wrapped her up.
Then they lifted the mat and placed it on the bed board.
One in front and one behind, they carried the body out.
Wang Laoshuan quickly grabbed three shovels.
Ignoring the stench, he caught up with them, and they all left together.
Once outside the Qian family's courtyard, they hurried up the mountain.
At the foot of the mountain, they found a shady spot and set down the bed board.
Then they started digging a grave with the three shovels.
After digging, they placed Qian Shi's body in the grave and covered it with soil.
As the body was buried, the stench gradually diminished.
Soon, the grave was filled, and a small mound was piled on top.
Next, Wang Dashi and Wang Dashi threw the bed board used to carry the body far away, completing the task.
Seeing his nephew looking at the mound, Wang Dashi sighed and patted Wang Dashi on the shoulder.
"Let's go back," he said.
Wang Dashi turned to look at his second uncle.
"Okay!" he nodded.
The three of them then returned to Xiashui Village.
Along the way, no one spoke a word.
After returning to Xiashui Village, the three of them went to the Huanshui River in unison.
They washed themselves thoroughly before heading home.
The father and son returned to their house.
Only then did they start cooking with empty stomachs.
"Let's make pancakes with coarse flour; it'll be faster," Wang Dashan said.
After eating, they still had to go into the mountains.
Wang Laoshuan was taken aback.
He then remembered that his son had brought some grain when he returned.
Suppressing the discomfort in his throat, he responded, "Alright!" and went to fetch the grain.
