Chapter 3: Continuing to Lean on Others

Tan Xing leaned against the car seat in a daze, pondering his next move. Although he had agreed to take on the mission, he was absolutely against selling his body to achieve it.

He believed that when the boat reached the bridge, a way would naturally present itself; completing the mission didn't require resorting to such crooked and sinister methods.

Upon arriving at the hotel entrance, Tan Xing paid the fare and stepped inside. Following Little Eight's instructions, he pulled out his bank card and ID, successfully booking a suite at the front desk.

As he rode the elevator up, he looked around. The inn of this world was truly magnificent; any more extravagant, and it would rival the side halls of a palace.

"Host, why not go meet the villainous father~"

    "Hmm, we'll see."

Little Eight felt aggrieved but kept silent.

The hotel staff had already transported the luggage to the designated room. Tan Xing leisurely turned around, observing the hotel's structure.

"You think, how about applying to be the villain's bodyguard?"

Little Eight let out a cold laugh, mercilessly revealing the harsh truth.

"Host, just a friendly reminder, they don't call them bodyguards here. That profession is known as a bodyguard, and do you realize how weak your current body is~"

Tan Xing was taken aback. He extended his two hands and gripped them, realizing all his inner strength and martial arts had vanished. His ten fingers clearly belonged to someone who had never done manual labor.

"So what's the point of this mission now?"

With his survival skills gone, even basic living had become an issue for him.

"How about we continue being a courtesan?" Little Eight whispered, tempting him. If the host completed the mission quickly, Little Eight could get a small vacation.

"Hmph, barging in would only get us thrown out as suspicious characters, wouldn't it?"

He noticed a group of people downstairs wearing uniformed attire. From their clothing, he deduced they were similar to law enforcement officers in this world.

"Little Eight, you said there's another courtesan sent by a wealthy merchant in the villain's room?"

    "Yes~"

    "Alright."

He quickly descended, identifying the one among the group who seemed like the leader based on his judgment. Then, he revealed the room number of the villain.

"I'm reporting him... for forcing someone into a sexual relationship."

This was how Little Eight taught him to say it; it should be correct.

Upon hearing this, the man immediately led a team upstairs, finding the room based on the room number.

After someone opened the door, they flashed their credentials first. "Hello, we've received a real-name report. Please cooperate with our investigation."

Liang Xigui furrowed his brows. "May I ask what reason the person reported me for?"

"Forcing someone into a sexual relationship."

These old hands were changing their tactics, attempting to smear him now?

Liang Xigui's expression soured, but he still stepped aside to allow them to search.

At the same time, he noticed a man in the corner silently observing him.

Was it him? He appeared to be a scapegoat thrown out, and Liang Xigui became even more curious about the power behind him.

After a thorough search, they found no evidence of a coerced victim, not even a trace left behind.

Many of the guests staying in this hotel were influential figures, so it was normal for them to have sophisticated means. It was common for reports to be made without finding evidence, so they could only leave.

"Sorry for taking up your valuable time."

Liang Xigui was a law-abiding citizen. He didn't press further, nodded, and leaned against the door frame, watching the group depart.

Fortunately, his room was always under covert surveillance. Anyone suspicious would be dealt with immediately, or else today might have been a close call.

On the other side, Tan Xing was quite satisfied after seeing what the villain looked like.

Although he hadn't managed to lure the bad guy in for a cup of tea, it wasn't a complete loss. He returned to his room to rest.

Unexpectedly, just as he lay down, the door was opened. Due to his high alertness in unfamiliar environments, Tan Xing hadn't removed his shoes before lying down.

Hearing movement, he immediately got up, retreating to assess the situation.

Four or five people entered, each tall and strong. With his current physical condition, he couldn't possibly resist them.

He decided running was the best option, but before he could act, he was lifted up by several men. His struggles were insignificant in their eyes.

Tan Xing was taken back to where he had just left. Liang Xigui sat in front of a chair, engrossed in his computer work. Seeing the arrival, he raised an eyebrow.

    "Hello, informant."

Tan Xing was thrown to the ground and pushed again, urging him to respond promptly.

"Hello." Tan Xing pursed his lips, unsure of what to say.

    "Tell me, who sent you?"

He had quickly received a series of investigative reports on Tan Xing.

This person had some connection to that kid Lin Yu, although it showed that their romantic relationship had just ended. But this couldn't dispel his doubts.

"It's just that you were the one who caught me."

Reborn into this life, Tan Xing was once bound by filial piety and propriety in his previous existence.

In this unfamiliar world, he felt a detached madness, as if the world could explode without concerning him, speaking his mind freely.

Liang Xigui was momentarily speechless, "I asked, who made you report me?"

"No one instigated me; I wanted to do it myself."

    "What about your intentions?"

Little Eight had been covertly egging Tan Xing on to quickly latch onto a golden thigh, so he blurted out another mortifying confession.

"Because I have feelings for you."

This time, Liang Xigui truly fell silent, silently sizing up the person before him, finding their good looks accentuated by the twin beauty marks beneath their eyes, making them all the more captivating.

"I don't believe you." It was fitting, aligning with the domineering CEO's suspicious nature.

Tan Xing fiddled with his fingers, needing to concoct another reason to save his skin.

Well, this would have to do.

"Because, I...just ended a mercenary contract and am looking for someone to support me. I don't want to work, I just want to live off others."

Uttering such utterly undignified words, Tan Xing felt he truly wouldn't be able to face his ancestors in the afterlife.

Liang Xigui pondered over these remarkably sincere words, indeed, sincerity was the ultimate trump card.

He found the rationale somewhat plausible, and the character intriguing.

With a single glance, he signaled his bodyguard to leave the room, leaving only Tan Xing and himself.

"Tell me, what advantages do you think you have that would make me willing to pay for your upkeep?" He paused, then added, "It's not impossible if I'm satisfied."

This person's character suited his temperament, and they were also quite attractive; he genuinely became interested.

Keeping them close would also allow him to observe whether they had ulterior motives, and he could afford to support someone.

Suddenly shifting from an interrogation to a job interview, Tan Xing seriously contemplated the question.

Although he had ended up back on this path, he needed to satisfy the other party to successfully stay by their side.

"I...I can do some cleaning work, and I won't ask for monthly wages, nor will I eat much, saving on food. I can write, so I can handle copying tasks."

After much thought, Tan Xing could only come up with these points; his martial skills were now useless, and this country didn't require private soldiers or strategists, leaving his utility value pitifully low.

Hearing this job application report, Liang Xigui remained silent, thinking that Lin Yu must truly dote on this canary, keeping them so sheltered for so long that they remained so naive.

    "Just these?"

"Mm-hmm." Tan Xing hung his head, his expression utterly defeated.

    "Alright, I'll think about it."
