Chapter 9
byChapter 9
After this little episode, Jiang Yiyan lost the mood to continue reading her novel.
She suddenly remembered that Wen Mochuan also had Shu Yao's WeChat. Regardless of the original body's relationship with Wen Mochuan, they were married, so they were surely friends on WeChat.
The three of them, each pair being friends, meant that when she liked Shu Yao's post, Wen Mochuan would definitely see it.
For such a trivial matter, Wu Jingmeng could confront her aggressively, believing it was a prelude to her bullying Shu Yao. What about him?
Did he think the same way?
It wasn't something she should have cared about, but considering they would be living under the same roof for at least some time, Jiang Yiyan didn't want any unpleasantness. So, she decided to talk to Wen Mochuan about this.
She wasn't going to explain herself, just wanted to tell him about it. If he had misunderstood, she could clarify. If not, all the better.
With this in mind, Jiang Yiyan got up and planned to go to his study on the third floor.
Just as she reached the stairs, she heard movement upstairs. Looking up, she saw a casually dressed man coming down the stairs.
Jiang Yiyan smiled naturally at Wen Mochuan and said directly, "You came down at the right time. I have something to discuss with you."
Hearing his wife say she had something to discuss, Wen Mochuan subconsciously furrowed his brows.
However, he had a good temper and walked down a few more steps until only a few steps separated them before stopping and asking, "What is it?"
Jiang Yiyan asked, "Are you planning to stand here and talk?" Then, she turned around and sat back on the sofa.
Wen Mochuan looked at her suspiciously but didn't say anything, silently following her over.
He sat down on the sofa but maintained the same distance from his wife as before.
"What is it?" He asked again.
Jiang Yiyan didn't mind the distance between them; in fact, she thought it was perfect.
"Earlier, Wu Jingmeng came to me," Jiang Yiyan said.
Wen Mochuan raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
"So?" He asked.
Despite his cold and distant attitude, Jiang Yiyan kept a perfectly polite smile on her face: "To question why I liked Shu Yao's WeChat post and warned me to stay away from Shu Yao in the future and not to bully her! Oh, by the way, Shu Yao is returning home soon, did you know?"
This seemed to be the first time she calmly mentioned Shu Yao in front of him.
"Mm, I know," Wen Mochuan felt no need to lie or hide anything, so he admitted directly, "I saw her post."
Jiang Yiyan continued, "So, you must have seen my like on her post too?"
"Mm," Wen Mochuan replied indifferently.
"Do you share Wu Jingmeng's thoughts? Do you think my casual like is a provocation or bullying towards Shu Yao?" Jiang Yiyan asked, remaining calm and rational.
Unlike before, whenever Shu Yao's name was mentioned, she would inevitably end up in a heated argument with him.
She couldn't possibly be this calm now.
Her current calmness was abnormal. When something unusual happens, there must be a reason behind it, which made him suspect if her unusual behavior was a sign of brewing trouble.
Wen Mochuan looked at her calmly, trying to read her expression, but found nothing.
He couldn't figure out what she was thinking.
In fact, Wen Mochuan thought the same thing. Based on his understanding of his wife, he knew she wouldn't have any goodwill towards Shu Yao.
But looking into her eyes, seeing her face filled with anticipation for his answer, he couldn't bring himself to give the harsh and definitive response he had in mind.
Instead, he said, "I hope you don't have such intentions."
Yet, this answer seemed even more hurtful than the one in his heart.
But Jiang Yiyan didn't care.
Jiang Yiyan smiled and gave him her promise, "Rest assured, as long as Shu Yao doesn't provoke me, I won't provoke her."
Wen Mochuan frowned, seemingly unsatisfied with his wife's answer.
How could Shu Yao provoke her?
Saying this was like turning the tables and accusing the accuser first.
However, Wen Mochuan didn't say anything else, merely nodding indifferently at his wife.
"I hope you keep your word," his attitude remained cold and distant.
There was no obvious anger or resentment towards her, but clearly, he wasn't close either.
As if... she was a stranger who had little to do with him.
Jiang Yiyan knew he didn't believe her words, but it didn't matter. Time would prove everything, and eventually, he would believe her.
.
Over the next two days, Jiang Yiyan and Wen Mochuan were busy with their own affairs, not disturbing each other.
Wen Mochuan slept in his study, while Jiang Yiyan occupied the entire bedroom alone.
Wen Mochuan was busy with company matters, while Jiang Yiyan, gradually accepting her situation, was contemplating her future in this world.
The original body didn't have a job. Before marriage, her father supported her, and after marriage, Wen Mochuan took care of her, ensuring she lacked for nothing. The only thing she was obsessed with was how to firmly capture her husband's heart.
Normally, she would just indulge in beauty treatments and go shopping, spending money to pass the boring time.
Her days were aimless, but she would only feel truly energized when dealing with Shu Yao.
She had probably never considered what she would do if her husband ever abandoned her and her natal family became unreliable; how could she continue living then?
Jiang Yiyan was not the original self. Although she also yearned for a life of endless wealth, she never expected to rely on others for such a lifestyle.
Even in her original world, despite her parents' deep love for her, she envisioned all three of them working together to achieve a comfortable life.
Especially here, where she had an omniscient perspective and knew that both the Jiang family and Wen Mochuan were unreliable in the future.
Therefore, everything still depended on herself.
She knew that here, she was the most reliable person, but she wouldn't foolishly give up what was rightfully hers. Or rather, she wouldn't recklessly abandon what belonged to the original self out of spite. Even if not entirely for herself, for the original self's daughter, Meimei, she would strive to seize some opportunities.
For example, her relationship with her natal family, her father and brother.
According to the novel "True Love," Jiang Yiyan's relationship with her father, Jiang Cheng, deteriorated entirely due to Shu Yao and her mother.
He resented his father for divorcing her mother years ago, and ultimately, her mother passed away from illness while Shu Yao's mother received everything that should have belonged to her own mother.
Strangely, after her mother's death, her father transferred all the love he once had for her mother onto Shu Yao's mother, as if her own mother had been nothing more than a joke.
She felt it was unjust for her mother.
She loved her mother and could never accept Shu Yao and her mother. Therefore, no matter how accommodating and kind Shu Yao's mother tried to be towards her, she would never appreciate it, instead becoming increasingly aggressive and unyielding.
Men, after all, were already exhausted from their careers outside and naturally hoped for harmony and peace at home when they returned.
Initially, Jiang Cheng could understand and tolerate her antics and provocations. But over time, even he grew weary of them.
Men were naturally sympathetic to the weak, and in their eyes, Shu Yao and her mother were the weaker ones. As a result, the balance of affection gradually shifted towards them.
If viewed with an omniscient perspective, Jiang Yiyan believed no one was truly at fault.
But now, living within the original self's body, her emotions naturally leaned towards the original self.
From her perspective, she was indeed a pitiable girl who lost her mother and, consequently, her father and brother.
Unfortunately, this pitiable girl had a straightforward personality, lacking guile or the ability to show weakness. Her feelings of love and hate were clearly displayed on her face. She acted impulsively without strategy, solely based on her preferences, which inevitably made her disliked.
If she had been a bit more cunning and smarter, she wouldn't have ended up like she did in the book, despite starting with such favorable circumstances.
Having lived for twenty-seven years and been in society for five to six years, Jiang Yiyan naturally possessed her own wisdom for life.
In terms of interpersonal relationships, she was naturally more tactful.
To love deeply and hate fiercely, yet also know when to bend and when to stretch.
Having lived here for a few days and gradually adapted, Jiang Yiyan decided to visit her natal family before Shu Yao returned from abroad.
That evening, after dinner, Jiang Yiyan asked Wen Mochuan, "Tomorrow I'm going to visit my father. Do you have time to come along?" She asked him this not because she genuinely wanted to invite him, but merely to inform him of her plans.
Wen Mochuan seemed surprised by her decision. After giving her a questioning look, he thought about it seriously and then shook his head in refusal.
"Something is happening at the company tomorrow, so I can't leave." He wasn't lying; they had just secured a major client, and everyone in the company was working overtime.
As the boss, he naturally needed to lead by example and work diligently to boost morale.
Jiang Yiyan nodded calmly. "Alright, then I'll take Meimei back alone tomorrow." She added, "Do you need Little Chen?"
Little Chen was the family's dedicated chauffeur, driving for Wen Mochuan and his family of three.
This time, Wen Mochuan didn't hesitate. "Little Chen will drive you back. Xu Ao will pick me up early tomorrow morning." Xu Ao was Wen Mochuan's assistant.
"Okay," Jiang Yiyan nodded, indicating that she understood.
With business concluded, there was nothing else to say between them, and the atmosphere cooled down instantly.
But Jiang Yiyan found this to be perfect: straightforward communication, clear boundaries when there was nothing to discuss.
.
The next morning, before leaving, Jiang Yiyan called the Jiang residence to inform them of her visit.
Inside the Jiang family villa, Cai Wenqing noticed the housekeeper, Sister Zhang, preparing to go out after taking a call and called out to her.
"So early, where are you going?" Cai Wenqing had long established her position as Mrs. Jiang Cheng in the Jiang household.
Everyone in the house, whether her stepson Jiang Xu or the servants, held her in high regard.
Upon the lady's question, Sister Zhang immediately replied, "Second Miss just called, saying she'll be coming back with Miss Meimei for lunch. I thought we might not have enough food, so I'm going to the nearby supermarket to buy some more." Jiang Yiyan was originally the Jiang family's only daughter, slightly younger than Shu Yao, who became the second miss after joining the family.
Joy immediately showed on Cai Wenqing's face, and she turned to Jiang Cheng, who had just descended the stairs. "Ah Cheng, Yiyan is coming back today."
Jiang Cheng had already heard. He instructed Sister Zhang, "Take out that batch of seafood that arrived a few days ago."
Cai Wenqing agreed, "Yes, take it out. I remember Yiyan loves seafood the most."
