Chapter 43
byChapter 43
Jiang Yiyan didn't care about luxury cars; for her, any vehicle that could get her from point A to B was sufficient. Therefore, when she went to the dealership the next day, despite the salesperson's persistent recommendation of cars priced over half a million, Jiang Yiyan remained unmoved. After test driving several options, she chose one that cost less than 200,000 fully loaded.
Wen Mochuan, having decided to gift her a car and personally accompanying her to the dealership, had prepared himself to buy her a high-quality vehicle. In his plan, even if she didn't choose a car worth over a million, it should at least be in the range of 600,000 to 700,000.
However, the final choice, even with additional customization costs, barely reached 200,000. Wen Mochuan asked his wife once more, "Are you sure this is the one you want?"
To Jiang Yiyan, there was nothing wrong with a 200,000 car. To her, a car was merely a consumable item, as long as it was comfortable and functional. What difference did it make whether it was 200,000 or two million?
Perhaps deep down, she was still a poor country bumpkin who couldn't appreciate the beauty of luxury vehicles.
But so what? At this stage, she was already thrilled to drive such a car. Thus, Jiang Yiyan contentedly replied to Wen Mochuan, "This car is perfect for me, it's exactly what I need." She could always upgrade to a better one with her own money when her financial situation improved.
Seeing her determination, Wen Mochuan didn't push further. He handed his card to the salesperson and said, "This one then, please process the payment."
The salesperson felt a bit regretful, as she could tell from Wen Mochuan and his wife's attire that they were capable of buying a car worth millions. Yet, they ended up choosing an affordable model in the tens of thousands.
Despite her best efforts to persuade Jiang Yiyan, the salesperson saw no change in her decision. Not wanting to annoy them, she reluctantly said, "Very well, sir, please follow me."
Since the model Jiang Yiyan chose wasn't new or in short supply, the dealership had it in stock. Consequently, by late afternoon, Jiang Yiyan drove the newly decorated car back home.
Parking in front of her house, Jiang Yiyan didn't get out but instead honked the horn a few times from inside the car.
Soon, Fang Fang came running out.
Jiang Yiyan rolled down the window and said, "Fang Fang, can you open the garage door with the key? I need to park the car inside."
Fang Fang circled around the car excitedly and exclaimed, "Sis, you bought a new car again."
What did she mean by 'again'? Jiang Yiyan hadn't bought a car before.
But wait, she must be referring to the original body's actions. The original body had purchased a car previously.
Fang Fang fetched the remote control key, and the garage door slowly opened. As Jiang Yiyan parked the car inside, she noticed a red sports car already parked there. It looked brand new.
She had never seen this car before, and judging by its color, it definitely wasn't driven by Wen Mochuan. Therefore, it must belong to the original body.
If the original body already owned a car, why did Wen Mochuan suggest buying another one?
After parking the car, Jiang Yiyan stepped out. Fang Fang stayed close by and, seeing her staring at the red sports car, commented, "Ever since I started working here, Sis' car has been parked here. I originally thought Sis didn't know how to drive, but it turns out you just don't like this model." Clearly, this model was cooler and undoubtedly more expensive.
Jiang Yiyan smiled and said, "It's a sports car, which is a bit too flashy for my taste. Besides, I've distanced myself from my previous social circle and am planning to focus on work, so it's better to keep a low profile. Moreover, driving a luxury car is quite costly, and I prefer my current car." The more she looked at her new car, the more she liked it. Although its design was ordinary and the price average, it was her first car, making it special.
Fang Fang couldn't fathom Jiang Yiyan's thoughts, but she didn't bother guessing. As long as Jiang Yiyan was happy, that was all that mattered.
The contract negotiations proceeded smoothly. Before signing, Lawyer Li reviewed it for Jiang Yiyan. Even Lawyer Li admitted that the terms showed genuine sincerity, assuring Jiang Yiyan that she could sign without worry.
.
Hearing this from Lawyer Li, Jiang Yiyan felt reassured.
After finalizing the contract with Yu Wenlai, Jiang Yiyan soon began her work.
The bedroom farthest east on the second floor had been cleaned and arranged by Feng Ma and Fang Fang over the past two days. All the furniture inside was personally selected by Jiang Yiyan: a bookshelf covering an entire wall, a large desk near the window, a sofa, a coffee table, and various decorative items.
Compared to Wen Mochuan's study, Jiang Yiyan's room was much smaller and didn't have a bed.
However, it didn't matter, as her spacious bedroom was right next door. When tired, she could easily go there to rest, eliminating the need for a bed in the study.
She considered knocking down the wall between the two bedrooms for easier access, but it was only a fleeting thought. She was already content with the current setup.
Ever since she was young, Jiang Yiyan dreamed of living in a big house with a study like this. Now, her dream had finally come true. The only regret was that her parents weren't present in this world.
It had been some time since she crossed over, and although she gradually adapted to life here, she still missed her parents in the other world during sleepless nights. She wondered what happened to her original self after her soul crossed over—did she die or simply fall into a coma?
Regardless, she knew her parents would find it unbearable.
After partnering with Yu Wenlai, Jiang Yiyan spent less time with her daughter Meimei.
Yu Wenlai's cheongsam store was incredibly successful, with no shortage of customers or orders. Yu Wenlai had no other demands of Jiang Yiyan except that she put her heart into every design. Even if it took longer to produce a draft, the most important thing was to ensure each drawing was crafted with care.
.
This aligned perfectly with Jiang Yiyan's philosophy.
While eager to earn money, Jiang Yiyan didn't want to make a quick buck or compromise quality. Her partnership aimed for long-term growth, sharing Yu Wenlai's belief that quality should always come before quantity.
With less time spent with Meimei, Wen Mochuan took on more paternal responsibilities. Whenever possible, he cut down on unnecessary business engagements and returned home early to spend time with his daughter.
Without her mother's company, Meimei found her summer vacation boring.
Her father couldn't draw, so whenever she sat with her sketchpad, he couldn't guide her. Unable to interact with her father, she often retreated into her own world.
Over time, Meimei sighed more frequently.
Wen Mochuan felt uneasy and, upon hearing another sigh from his daughter, shifted his gaze from his phone to Meimei. He approached her cautiously.
"What's wrong? Why are you sighing again?" Wen Mochuan asked.
Meimei replied, "Mommy is so busy now, she doesn't have much time for me." As she continued doodling, she complained softly, "But Mommy said she needs to work hard on something very important. I'm a good girl, so I shouldn't act spoiled and insist on being with her all the time. But if Mommy keeps being so busy, I'll miss her so much." Meimei sounded aggrieved.
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes.
Wen Mochuan's heart ached at the sight of his little girl crying.
He comforted her gently, "Don't you have Daddy here with you?"
Meimei rubbed her eyes. She was quite spirited, trying hard not to let more tears fall.
"Daddy is daddy, and mommy is mommy. Daddy is great, of course, but no one can replace how good Mommy is." Meimei kept her head down, her tone gloomy and sad.
Daddy was great too, but in her heart, he clearly wasn't as good as Mommy.
To be honest, hearing these words from his daughter, Wen Mochuan felt quite sad.
However, he wasn't petty enough to be jealous of his wife.
In fact, he was relieved that his daughter now relied more on his wife. His daughter was flesh from her mother's body; she should naturally be closer to her mother.
"How about I contact your mom and see if she has time? If she does, we'll go upstairs to find her, okay?" Wen Mochuan was always patient with his daughter.
Meimei nodded vigorously. "Okay!"
Wen Mochuan sat back down and took out his phone, sending a message to his wife via WeChat.
At first, he typed a few words bluntly, in a very businesslike tone: "Almost done?"
But just as he was about to send it, he paused. Then he deleted everything and started typing a new message.
"I saw you didn't eat much for dinner. Do you want to come downstairs for something to eat?"
After hesitating for nearly ten seconds, he finally hit send.
Jiang Yiyan had been hunched over her design drawings for several hours straight. She had taken on many projects recently and needed to finish many designs.
When Yu Wenlai was the only one working at the shop, he had to handle both designing and cutting, doing everything himself. Now that they were working together, their roles were clearly defined. Yu Wenlai focused on designing the overall style of the qipaos and the cutting work, while Jiang Yiyan took charge of designing the patterns on the qipaos.
This clear division of labor increased efficiency, so they could take on more projects.
Drawing a few designs was easy for Jiang Yiyan. But if she had to consider the style of the qipao and the personality and appearance of the person who would wear it, she had to put more thought into it.
Jiang Yiyan had been working for over twelve hours when Wen Mochuan sent her the message. She had just finished the final stroke of her drawing.
She hadn't realized how hungry she was until Wen Mochuan mentioned eating. Once he did, she suddenly felt ravenous.
The initial draft was complete today, so she decided to leave the finishing touches for tomorrow.
Putting down her brush, she stretched and then got up to go downstairs.
Downstairs, father and daughter were still waiting for a reply on the phone. They didn't expect her to come downstairs in person instead of replying to the text.
"Mommy!" Meimei immediately ran over and threw herself at her.
Perhaps because Meimei used too much force or perhaps because Jiang Yiyan hadn't eaten much all day and was feeling weak from low blood sugar, she almost fell over from the impact.
Seeing this, Wen Mochuan quickly walked over. With his strong wrist, he steadily supported Jiang Yiyan's slender waist.
