Chapter 16
byChapter 16
Jiang Yiyan was supported by her husband and daughter as they entered their home, and Feng Ma, upon seeing this, exclaimed, "Oh my! What happened?"
Little Wen Meimei was drenched in sweat, looking as if she had just climbed out of a water barrel. Despite her appearance, she seemed spirited, her cheeks flushed but not showing any signs of fatigue.
"My mom threw up! She ran so much that she threw up!" Wen Meimei announced loudly.
Jiang Yiyan lay on the sofa weakly, thinking that this wasn't exactly a proud moment, but she lacked the strength to stop her daughter from broadcasting it. She could only stay quiet and let her daughter share the embarrassing story.
Feng Ma quickly fetched a cup of honey water, sat next to Jiang Yiyan, and fed her a sip. "It's warm; drink some to soothe your stomach."
After drinking a couple of sips, Jiang Yiyan laid back down again.
Father and daughter stood beside her, one tall and one short, both at a loss for what to do.
Jiang Yiyan glanced at them and suddenly chuckled.
"Why are you staring at me? Is my pitiful state amusing?" She felt a bit better now than when they were outside. Although still dizzy, she no longer felt nauseous.
Seeing his wife in such a weakened state, Wen Mochuan showed genuine concern.
"Should we go to the hospital?" he asked seriously.
Jiang Yiyan quickly waved her hand, indicating that it wasn't necessary.
"It's just that I haven't exercised in a while, and my body isn't used to it. I'll be fine if I rest here for a bit; there's no need to go to the hospital. It would be too much trouble." She grumbled. She wasn't that delicate.
In her opinion, frequenting hospitals unnecessarily was unwise. Minor ailments were best endured and overcome without medical intervention.
Wen Mochuan, seeing that she genuinely didn’t want to go, didn’t insist further.
Wen Meimei felt sorry for her mother and remembered that she was the one who woke her up early that morning, which led to her running and vomiting. So, she bravely admitted her mistake in front of her mother.
"Mommy, I'm sorry," Wen Meimei said with a sad face. "I won't wake you up again in the future."
If one bout of vomiting could secure her a peaceful summer, Jiang Yiyan truly believed it was worth it. So, she quickly took her daughter’s hand and said, "Mommy doesn't blame you. You didn't know this would happen, right? Ignorance is not a sin, so don't blame yourself, okay?" Then she added, "But, if you could avoid waking me up in the mornings from now on, Mommy would be very happy."
Wen Meimei nodded vigorously, making a solemn promise. "I promise! I promise never to wake Mommy up again."
"Meimei is such a good girl," Jiang Yiyan thought happily, pulling her sweet little daughter into her embrace. "With those words, Mommy feels half-better already."
"Really?"
"Of course. When you're happy, your body naturally feels better. And remember, Meimei, you have to keep your word."
"Absolutely! I'm a good child and never lie!"
.
Following their agreement from the previous day, Jiang Yiyan was supposed to take her daughter to the nearby mall to buy art supplies and paints today. However, considering his wife's condition, Wen Mochuan told his daughter after breakfast, "Let Mommy rest at home during the day, and Daddy will take you to buy your art supplies and paints after work tonight."
Wen Meimei had no objections and immediately agreed.
Jiang Yiyan, still lying on the sofa, heard what Wen Mochuan said to their daughter in the dining room.
To be honest, she felt somewhat grateful.
Wen Mochuan, as a person, had a decent character. He was upright and kind-hearted.
He wouldn’t scheme against someone for no reason.
Even if they weren’t going to remain married or became strangers, having such an ex-husband wouldn’t make her life difficult in the future.
It couldn’t be denied that many times, women choosing marriage was akin to a gamble. Choosing the right person meant that even if they didn’t love you, they wouldn’t hold you back. But choosing the wrong person meant that even if they loved you passionately at first, once that love faded in the wear and tear of marriage, they would become your most fatal blow.
In this regard, the original body had made a good choice.
Meimei was well-behaved today. After Jiang Yiyan had a simple breakfast and went upstairs to rest, Meimei played alone.
.
She didn’t need to be entertained by Feng Ma or Fang Fang, nor did she think about finding her mother.
Perhaps due to the lack of sleep last night or the strain of running and vomiting early in the morning, Jiang Yiyan slept for a long time. When she woke up, it was already three o'clock in the afternoon.
She had slept deeply and thoroughly, feeling refreshed and full of energy when she woke up.
Having gone several hours without eating, she naturally felt hungry. So, she changed her clothes and came downstairs.
Meimei was playing with building blocks and, upon seeing her mother descend the stairs, immediately dropped the blocks and rushed over.
"Does Mommy still feel bad?" Meimei asked with concern.
Since her mother wasn’t feeling well, Meimei worried about her and couldn’t enjoy playing.
She wanted her mother to get better quickly.
Jiang Yiyan stretched leisurely. "After sleeping, I’m completely fine now." To prove that she was fully recovered, she even spun around in front of Meimei. "See, nothing wrong, right?"
Seeing her mother full of vitality, Wen Meimei finally felt completely reassured.
However, she was still worried about her mother, so she followed her wherever she went, sticking close behind her, afraid that her mother might tire and vomit again.
Like a little tail.
Red date and lotus seed porridge was simmering in the kitchen, and its aroma wafted through the house. Jiang Yiyan followed the scent into the kitchen.
Feng Ma had already prepared a bowl for Madam. "It's been cooking for two hours and is perfectly cooked now. It's just right for eating."
"Thank you, Feng Ma." After vomiting in the morning, this bowl of porridge was perfect for her now.
Jiang Yiyan was having congee in the dining room, with little Meimei by her side. Suddenly, the landline in the living room rang, and Meimei jumped up at once.
"It must be Dad! I'll get it!"
The call was indeed from Wen Mochuan.
He first asked about his wife's condition. Upon learning that she had mostly recovered and was now having congee, he told his daughter, "Go tell Mom that we won't be eating at home tonight. We're going out."
Wen Mochuan had been busy at work recently, inevitably neglecting his family. Now that the business negotiations were going well and there were no unexpected issues at work, he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Besides, his wife's recent unusual behavior raised suspicions in his mind.
Initially, he thought her sudden change in personality might be due to some hidden agenda or trouble she was planning. But after spending several days together, he felt it wasn't quite like that.
Although he hadn't completely ruled out the possibility of her having ill intentions, he didn't want to continue assuming the worst of people.
If she genuinely wanted to start over and live a good life, he would accept her goodwill.
She took a step back, and so did he, treating each other with mutual respect. As long as they could manage their household together and raise Meimei seriously... he was willing to maintain peace with her indefinitely.
Wen Mochuan had put much thought into this, but Jiang Yiyan wasn't particularly interested.
She wasn't the original person, and she didn't want to pretend for the sake of strengthening their relationship. Therefore, this family dinner felt more like an obligation and burden to her.
However, since it was a kind gesture and she also wished to continue living peacefully under the same roof, she couldn't refuse such goodwill.
Moreover, for Meimei's sake, she should happily agree.
"Alright then." Jiang Yiyan nodded in agreement.
Meimei hadn't hung up yet; she asked her mother directly over the phone.
After obtaining her mother's consent, Meimei excitedly exclaimed into the phone, "Dad, Mom agreed!"
Wen Mochuan, sitting in his office, seemed to be infected by his daughter's joy, his eyes filled with a warm smile.
"Great. Dad will pick you up around six o'clock."
"Okay!" After hanging up, Wen Meimei ran to update Jiang Yiyan, "Dad will pick us up at six."
Pick them up at six... It was not even four o'clock now, giving her two hours of free time.
Jiang Yiyan planned to go upstairs to freshen up around five-thirty, so after finishing her bowl of red date congee, she took out her phone and comfortably lounged on the sofa to play with it.
Since she had made a splash in her daughter's class group chat yesterday, the first thing she did was check the group.
The group seemed calm, with nothing happening over the past day and night.
Since she was already on WeChat, Jiang Yiyan decided to browse through her Moments.
Coincidentally, the first post was from Shu Yao, stating "Back in the country," accompanied by a picture of her plane ticket.
It was posted just one minute ago.
Jiang Yiyan deliberately checked the ticket's time – if converted to Beijing time, it was a flight departing at two in the morning.
This was a fictional world, but the original author had set the time based on real-world conditions. Therefore, the flight from London to China would take over ten hours.
By the time Shu Yao truly stepped onto the land of Shenzhen, it would be tomorrow evening.
Assuming no delays, Shu Yao would likely arrive home around six or seven tomorrow evening.
Jiang Yiyan casually liked the post and, after some thought, left a comment: "Welcome home!"
