Jiang Yao's heart pounded. Ai Wei tried to lean in for a closer look, but Jiang Yao wrapped the object in a small piece of cloth and tucked it into his pocket. "I need to go out for a bit."

Ai Wei: "You traitor! You despicable human!"

"Where are you going?" Louis appeared in the doorway. With his ability to read minds, he naturally knew what Jiang Yao was holding. "Where did you get that?"

Jiang Yao remained silent.

Louis said softly, "My kind does have records of an ancient method to preserve blood for a long time—the blood of a first-generation vampire."

Jiang Yao slowly backed toward the window.

Louis: "Hand it over!"

"Bye-bye~" Jiang Yao spread his arms wide and plunged headfirst out the window. Louis lunged forward in pursuit, but he was too weak—he had consumed too little human blood and hadn't replenished it after the great battle. To his astonishment, Jiang Yao managed to escape.

Ai Wei: "My lord! Has Jiang Yao gone rogue?"

It was no surprise Ai Wei was astonished. Jiang Yao had drunk Louis's blood; obedience to Louis should have been his instinct. Yet this wasn't the first time Jiang Yao had defied him.
