A series of loud bangs echoed.

The hand gripping Jiang Yao’s arm suddenly went limp. Louis stumbled back two steps, ignoring his profusely bleeding arm, and drew a gun from his waist to attack Doug.

Only half an hour remained until nightfall.

Low-level zombies, as if suicidal, repeatedly lunged forward, piling up a wall of corpses before sunset, all to buy Louis time to take Jiang Yao away.

“Devil’s spawn!” Yoel pounced, pinning down a zombie, his wolf claws brutally crushing its skull!

*Spawn: Humans who died after being drained by vampires. They lost consciousness, retaining only the instinct to obey commands, fear sunlight, and crave blood.

The military arrived, but within mere minutes, the scene had devolved into a chaotic free-for-all.

Jiang Yao shouted, “Don’t kill them! I’ll go back with you!”

“You’re lying!” Louis’s pupils were bloodshot. He stared directly at Jiang Yao, trying to discern his true thoughts. “How much did the humans pay you?”

Jiang Yao’s eyes widened. “Prince Louis, what are you talking about?”
