Chapter 34
byChapter 34
Despite Yao Xianqing's stringent precautions, Qi Yuwen still managed to meet You Nan.
You Nan was in a complete daze when he was pulled into the car. As soon as he regained his senses, he disregarded the moving vehicle and frantically tugged at the door handle.
A large hand shot out from beside him, firmly gripping both of his.
The other person's strength was immense, causing You Nan's hands to ache. You Nan let out a sharp cry, frowned, and instinctively lowered his head to bite the hand.
He bit down hard.
You Nan's heart raced, his eardrums throbbed, and it felt as if someone was speaking right beside his ear, but he couldn't make out the words. Only the gradually emerging metallic taste of blood in his mouth jolted him back to his senses.
"Xiao Nan, it's me."
Qi Yuwen's hand bore jagged bite marks from You Nan's teeth, yet the man didn't even flinch. He parked the car on a quiet roadside and looked gently at the person beside him.
The bright streetlight illuminated Qi Yuwen's face, revealing his greedy, ravenous gaze fixed on You Nan.
Hearing his voice, You Nan suddenly looked up, his pupils trembling.
It was Qi Yuwen.
"What are you doing here?!" You Nan's lips were reddened, his eyes fixed on him with wary intensity, his back pressed tightly against the car door, always on guard against his approach.
Qi Yuwen had never seen You Nan like this before.
In his memory, You Nan wouldn't avoid him as if he were some dangerous beast, as if he would harm him.
Qi Yuwen's heart clenched, and he felt a familiar struggle to breathe.
This version of You Nan felt utterly unfamiliar to him.
He couldn't help but clench his hand into a fist, the stinging pain on the back of his hand snapping him back to reality.
Qi Yuwen glanced down at the back of his hand, mangled and bleeding from You Nan's fearful biting.
"I've missed you." Qi Yuwen seemed to feel no pain, his expression still relaxed. "That's why I came to find you."
Qi Yuwen had spent years observing and emulating Yao Xianqing's mannerisms, engraving Yao Xianqing's every move into his very being, making it difficult to change even now.
Just like the gentle way he was speaking to You Nan at this moment, it made You Nan momentarily taken aback, as if he were seeing a shadow of Yao Xianqing on this face that was otherwise completely different from Yao Xianqing's.
You Nan tightened his grip on the seatbelt in front of him.
The parking spot Qi Yuwen had chosen was terrible for him; a streetlight happened to be blocking the door, making it impossible for him to push it open and get out.
Qi Yuwen also seemed oblivious to his panic. "Yao Xianqing won't let me see you. He's got me locked out completely."
Qi Yuwen reached out to touch You Nan, but with a "smack," his hand was instinctively swatted away by You Nan, hitting the steering wheel.
Blood stained the steering wheel red.
Qi Yuwen's face went pale with pain.
You Nan's chest rose and fell heavily twice. His belly was quite large now, and intense emotional fluctuations were not good for him.
Burying his fear of Qi Yuwen's current state, he tried his best to maintain a calm tone. "What do you mean?"
You Nan blinked. "We're divorced now. What else is there to see?"
"I know you like Yao Xianqing…"
This statement, which might have been better left unsaid, caused the previously motionless man to suddenly lean over, pinning him against the car door.
Qi Yuwen's gaze was burning with affection, but You Nan averted his eyes. He knew that Qi Yuwen's eyes were always like this—no matter what they looked at, they always looked full of longing.
"But now I like you," Qi Yuwen ground out through clenched teeth.
He carefully, not daring to miss even the slightest change in You Nan's expression, tried to find signs that You Nan still cared for him on his face. "Can you keep liking me?"
You Nan remained silent.
His silence at this moment landed like a sledgehammer striking Qi Yuwen's head.
Qi Yuwen didn't understand. He grabbed You Nan's chin, forcing the face that had turned away to look directly at him. "Look at me! Didn't you always like me before? How long could you have possibly known Yao Xianqing to like him now?"
"Do you even know what kind of person Yao Xianqing is?" Qi Yuwen crushed him in an embrace, who immediately struggled and screamed.
"Let me go! Don't you dare touch me!" You Nan protectively cupped his belly with both hands, preventing Qi Yuwen from putting pressure on his child.
You Nan had been frightened earlier, and his eyes were still red. Seeing that Qi Yuwen wouldn't listen, he directly slapped him across the face, stunning Qi Yuwen.
"Get out! Get away from me! I don't want to see you! If anything happens to my child, I'll make you pay with your life!"
Perhaps due to the hormones from pregnancy, You Nan had gained a new, unspoken gentleness. His skin was fair and rosy, his face even more delicate and beautiful.
Like a pearl kept in a box—luminous and soft.
Also because of the hormones, You Nan cherished the child in his belly even more. Usually, even Yao Xianqing couldn't casually place a hand on his belly, let alone someone like Qi Yuwen trying to hold him tightly.
Qi Yuwen stared at You Nan, still reeling from what he'd heard. "Yao Xianqing—don't be fooled by his glamorous appearance. He's no saint either!"
"Ahhhh!" You Nan suddenly covered his ears and screamed, drowning out Qi Yuwen's badmouthing of Yao Xianqing.
You Nan also shoved at Qi Yuwen's face. If Qi Yuwen tried to grab him to make him quiet, You Nan would use his fingers and nails to dig into the back of Qi Yuwen's hand.
He had to escape; he didn't want to be with Qi Yuwen!
Qi Yuwen quickly realized that You Nan's emotions were unstable, as if he had reached a breaking point.
You Nan kicked him several times, leaving dusty shoe prints on Qi Yuwen's clean, neat clothes.
Qi Yuwen had no time to care about that because You Nan, covering his belly in the passenger seat, had turned pale, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
The person who had been scolding him with such energy moments ago couldn't utter a word now.
Qi Yuwen's mind went blank.
He had only wanted a chance to reconcile with You Nan; he hadn't meant for anything to happen to the child in You Nan's belly.
Because of You Nan's pregnancy, Qi Yuwen had read many books on obstetrics. He had imagined that after reconciling with You Nan, they would have a child together.
He remembered those books mentioning that pregnant women in their later months, around seven or eight months, needed to maintain a calm demeanor, otherwise the fetal heartbeat could stop at any time.
And if something happened to a seven- or eight-month-old fetus in the womb, it would be too developed to safely terminate.
Qi Yuwen tried to start the car. His hands were shaking, and he fumbled with the key several times without managing to grip it properly, his hands slipping.
His entire focus was on getting You Nan to the hospital, completely unaware that the pain on You Nan's face in the passenger seat had vanished, replaced by a wary and cold stare.
You Nan hadn't actually experienced any distress to the fetus; he was in perfectly good health.
Perhaps it was because Yao Xianqing took such good care of him that from the moment he became pregnant, You Nan had never been overexerted. Even less had he experienced any complications due to anger.
Just now, he had clenched his teeth and taken a chance, wanting to see how Qi Yuwen would react upon claiming to love him and witnessing his pain.
Unexpectedly, Qi Yuwen was actually genuine.
You Nan suddenly found it somewhat bizarrely funny.
The original person in this little world had loved Qi Yuwen so desperately, yet Qi Yuwen had never once given him a second glance.
But now that he had given up on a Qi Yuwen who didn't love him, Qi Yuwen was suddenly chasing after him, wanting to reconcile and starting to act desperate.
You Nan took a deep breath.
He felt it wasn't worth it for the original person.
You Nan carefully checked his pocket—the phone's location was still on. Yao Xianqing must be close by now.
You Nan sensed something. He looked up into the rearview mirror on the other side and saw a familiar car racing toward them. With a couple of "vrooms," Qi Yuwen started the car and began to move forward a short distance.
You Nan suddenly called out, "Qi Yuwen!"
Qi Yuwen instinctively hit the brakes and turned to see what You Nan needed.
There was no pole in the way outside You Nan's car door anymore. He quickly opened the door and got out of the car.
Qi Yuwen panicked. He immediately pushed open his door to chase after You Nan, only to witness the person he now loved throwing himself into the arms of someone he had once loved.
The feeling was utterly absurd.
Qi Yuwen glared at Yao Xianqing, gritting his teeth.
Yao Xianqing calmed You Nan down, coaxing him into the car. The next second, his gaze toward Qi Yuwen turned sharp, cold, and merciless.
It was unclear who started it first, but Yao Xianqing and Qi Yuwen were already throwing punches at each other.
But this time, it wasn't a draw—one quickly gained the upper hand.
Qi Yuwen wasn't a robot. His hand, mangled by You Nan's scratching, hurt every time he landed a punch on Yao Xianqing, though he couldn't tell if Yao Xianqing felt any pain. But he himself was in pain.
Yao Xianqing immediately seized his weakness, grabbing his hand and forcing him to exchange punches.
Every time Qi Yuwen's hand was struck against Yao Xianqing's, cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
This time, he was no match for Yao Xianqing at all.
You Nan's eyes lit up instantly. Inside the car, he cheered Yao Xianqing on.
The scene cut Qi Yuwen deeply.
Yao Xianqing landed a punch on Qi Yuwen, who gave up resisting and was grabbed by the collar and hauled up by Yao Xianqing.
Yao Xianqing was in a terrible mood. Anyone would be furious if their fiancé was kidnapped right before their engagement.
Yao Xianqing's lips twitched, but he couldn't manage a smile. He glared fiercely at Qi Yuwen, enunciating each word slowly.
"Next time, if I see you trying to get close to You Nan again, I'll break your legs!"
"You Nan isn't some plaything you can summon and dismiss at will. Understand?"
Yao Xianqing released Qi Yuwen's collar, pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped off the blood that had gotten on him from the other.
He composed himself, then walked toward his waiting beloved.
