Chapter 75: The End
byChapter 75 The End
In Yun Fan's memory, it should have been winter, but the temperature in Port City was still quite high; he hadn't even worn a coat yet. However, according to Uncle Man, it might suddenly turn cold in a little while, catching people off guard.
Uncle Man now came to cook at their city apartment every day, and they chatted and met just like before. The Little Gardener had gone to work at Shen Yu's flower shop and, due to outstanding performance, had been promoted to store manager.
On weekends, Yun Fan would return to Wen Yanlan's residence with Wen Zhaofu to visit Great-Grandpa and then go out together for a walk.
Wen Zhaofu hadn't walked properly for too long, so now he walked slowly. Yun Fan enjoyed speeding ahead a few steps, then turning back to wait for him. He never tired of playing this game over and over again.
"You're just bullying me since I just learned how to walk," Wen Zhaofu grumbled.
Yun Fan put his hands behind his back, tilting his head toward him. "So what if I am? What are you gonna do about it?"
What could he do? Nothing at all. Wen Zhaofu caught up to him, leaned in to give him a kiss, and then continued strolling leisurely.
The pedestrian crossing was marked with large "Look Left" and "Look Right" signs. Yun Fan lowered his head, stared at them for a moment, and then took Wen Zhaofu's hand. "Let's go forward."
Wen Zhaofu turned to look at Yun Fan, seeing his bright and focused eyes, devoid of hesitation, only a desire to cross this road.
So Wen Zhaofu smiled, squeezed Yun Fan's hand, and softly replied, "Okay, let's go forward."
Now the two of them often went out for walks like this in their free time, not avoiding cameras. When they were first photographed, some people exclaimed in surprise, never expecting that Wen Zhaofu, who had never been rumored to be in a relationship, would appear with such a big reveal—directly announcing his spouse.
Later, when people photographed them again, it only reinforced the impression that Wen Zhaofu and Yun Fan had a very good relationship, and the discussions gradually died down.
Wen Zhaofu never cared, because Yun Fan said, "Who cares if they take pictures? They'll get tired of it after a while." Sure enough, it wasn't long before even the paparazzi following them disappeared.
On this day, when they returned to Langyuntai, the weather turned unfavorable, with dripping rain. Yun Fan jumped out of the car first, splashing in the puddles a few times. Wen Zhaofu parked the car, handed the keys to the temporary stand-in butler from Taiping Qingshui Residence, quickly caught up, and joined Yun Fan.
Yun Fan turned his head and smiled at him, raising his eyebrows as if to say, "Do you dare jump in the rain?"
What was there to fear? Wen Zhaofu laughed, took Yun Fan's hand, tapped his feet on the ground, and started tap-dancing. His skilled dance moves left Yun Fan stunned, wondering when this person had gone to train.
Wen Zhaofu had not only just learned to walk but also how to drive and dance. He seemed like a robot—just input the program, and he could master it in seconds.
It was incredible. Yun Fan shouted and laughed in the rain, his feet splashing water onto his pants, only to be washed away again by the rain.
From their first meeting, Wen Zhaofu had always loved Yun Fan's laughter—it always moved him and brought out a heartfelt smile from within.
Wen Zhaofu wrapped his arms around Yun Fan's waist, kissed him in the rain, spinning as they kissed, their breaths hidden in the rain, yet their feelings remained as clear as ever.
"I love you," Wen Zhaofu cupped Yun Fan's face. "I love you, Yun Fan."
Yun Fan held Wen Zhaofu tightly, nodding repeatedly. All his uncertainty and insecurity were soothed by Wen Zhaofu's boundless tenderness. He no longer hesitated or doubted, nor did he dwell on the past. He only wanted to move toward a bright future with Wen Zhaofu.
Back at Langyuntai, Uncle Man made them ginger tea, scolding them for neglecting their health while also finding it quite amusing, leaving himself in a contradictory mood.
Wen Zhaofu used a large towel to dry Yun Fan's hair, but after a long time, it still wasn't dry, and he ended up laughing at himself. He threw aside the towel, took Yun Fan's hand, and said, "Come on, let's just go wash up."
In the steamy mist, Wen Zhaofu hooked his hand around Yun Fan's neck and kissed him. Yun Fan laughed, leaning back into Wen Zhaofu's embrace.
"How do you fit my heart so perfectly?" Wen Zhaofu rubbed Yun Fan's hands. "Where did you come from, little sprite?"
Yun Fan's body stiffened slightly for a moment before relaxing. He didn't answer Wen Zhaofu's question, humming instead, "What's it to you? I don't even care. Anyway, I'm stuck with you for life. Just say yes or no."
After speaking, Yun Fan reached back and patted Wen Zhaofu's thigh twice. Wen Zhaofu seemed comforted, tightening his arms around Yun Fan's waist and whispering in his ear, "Okay, how could I not want you to? I'm just afraid you won't stick around."
At this point, Wen Zhaofu loosened his hold slightly, turning Yun Fan to face him. "My executive assistant or the family office—choose one. If you choose executive assistant, you'll work at Wen Corp; the family office is a little further out..."
"I choose the family office," Yun Fan replied immediately, unsurprisingly seeing a flicker in Wen Zhaofu's eyes.
After a moment, Wen Zhaofu said gloomily, "Do you really not want to see me every day that much?"
Yun Fan laughed, pinching Wen Zhaofu's cheek. "If I become your assistant, I'd get distracted looking at you all day and feel guilty about the salary. Managing the family office, guarding the Wen family for you, puts me at ease. With our family's old folks..."
Wen Zhaofu laughed, his brows relaxing as he nodded. "Then you have to come have meals with me every day and rest together afterward."
"Okay, okay, as long as you don't mind the gas money," Yun Fan agreed cheerfully.
*
Cheng Yu hardly came to Port City anymore unless Great-Grandpa organized a large family banquet; otherwise, he basically didn't show up. His mother, Cheng Bixia, couldn't do anything about it, saying this child always went to extremes—either heartbroken or shutting off his heart.
Once, when Cheng Bixia ran into Wen Zhaofu, she asked him to try talking to Cheng Yu. Wen Zhaofu pointed at himself. "Aunt, are you asking me to persuade him? In Cheng Yu's eyes, I'm the one who stole his love."
"..." Cheng Bixia was speechless.
When Yun Fan heard about this, he laughed for a while. "It's fine. He knows what he's doing. The company keeps him grounded, so he won't go down a bad path."
"You know him quite well," Wen Zhaofu said with a pout.
Before Yun Fan could explain, Uncle Man brought a postcard. Wen Zhaofu leaned over to look—sure enough, it was from Liu Erxing again. He took a breath and sighed heavily.
"Where is this?" Yun Fan kicked Wen Zhaofu's calf lightly. "Well-traveled President Wen, take a look."
Wen Zhaofu turned it over and glanced. "Somewhere in the Arctic Circle, freezing."
Yun Fan noticed that Wen Zhaofu's way of speaking was becoming more and more amusing, clearly influenced by him. Liu Erxing's postcard was the same as before—politely asking after them, never forgetting to write "Hello, Big Brother."
After leaving Port City, Liu Erxing sought therapy. According to him, he didn't know if he could get better, but he was trying.
His dry grandpa, Wen Tingwang, had visited him. After all these years of relationship, Wen Tingwang hadn't been too harsh on him.
Liu Erxing told Wen Tingwang that he had learned restraint—Yun Fan taught him that love is restraint. He didn't want to hurt Yun Fan or Wen Zhaofu, so he wouldn't see them again.
Returning to an ordinary life, Liu Erxing focused on saving people around the world, starting a second life.
Wen Haochen's life was exhausting. Once he started professional training, he didn't want to do it anymore. Yun Fan called and scolded him for over an hour. If his big brother scolded him, he could talk back, but when his brother's wife spoke, even his big brother had to sit quietly beside him.
"Unless your leg is broken, don't come back!" Yun Fan issued an ultimatum.
Then Wen Haochen's leg broke, just as winter arrived in Port City.
Wen Zhaofu received the news first and held Yun Fan tightly when he told him, afraid he might yell and pass out from anger.
With his younger brother injured, Wen Zhaofu had to go back to see him. When Yun Fan saw Wen Haochen, he raised his hand several times but couldn't speak, finally pointing at Wen Zhaofu. "Let your brother teach you how to use crutches. He's an old pro at it."
"He's become such a hardass now," Wen Haochen asked in surprise, watching Yun Fan walk away.
Wen Zhaofu smiled and patted his head. "Listen to your brother's wife; you won't go wrong."
A year later, Yun Fan suddenly realized it all felt like a dream. He stood by the window, spacing out.
Wen Zhaofu had gotten up but Yun Fan hadn't seen him yet and didn't know what he was doing. After a while, Yun Fan heard footsteps behind him and was embraced.
A wooden music box lay in Wen Zhaofu's hand. Yun Fan lowered his head to take it. "So beautiful!"
Wen Zhaofu kissed his ear. "I made it. Want to listen?"
"Whoa, President Wen has skills like this too," Yun Fan exclaimed in delight.
When Wen Zhaofu confessed, Yun Fan hadn't heard clearly, but this time he heard every word distinctly. He turned the small handle, and the music box played a song, then spoke again.
A low, soothing voice came through, and Yun Fan couldn't help but shrink into Wen Zhaofu's embrace, relaxing his body.
Wen Zhaofu remembered every little detail of their past, from the awe of their first meeting to all the moments they shared afterward. He said he loved Yun Fan's optimism and his passion for life. He hoped Yun Fan would give him a chance to become someone Yun Fan could love.
Not just love—he wanted to be the most loved.
"Xiao Yun, I will fulfill every role well—your brother, your partner, your husband. You don't need to do anything; just be Yun Fan."
"Yun Fan, let's get married." Wen Zhaofu's voice came from the music box, then brushed past Yun Fan's ear.
There was no shock, much less surprise. On an ordinary morning, Wen Zhaofu calmly proposed to Yun Fan.
*
After the New Year, Wen Zhaofu threw himself into preparing for their wedding. He recalled the Spring Celebration Yun Fan had organized for the Wen family a year ago. Back then, they were still misunderstanding each other, but now they could talk about anything.
However, when the spring breeze swept through the port city, a major crisis hit the Wen family.
Yun Fan was immediately called to the Wen headquarters, where he analyzed and discussed the situation with Wen Zhaofu's close confidants. Looking over several documents and reports, he shook his head: "This was long planned—they're going for the kill."
Wen Zhaofu glanced at Yun Fan and pressed his hand reassuringly: "It's fine. This is a chance to cut the problem at its root."
Whenever Wen Zhaofu spoke, it seemed like nothing was unsolvable. Yun Fan felt reassured, but the situation was still tough to resolve.
The mastermind had allied with three veteran directors of the Wen family's board, questioning Wen Zhaofu's management and demanding a change in leadership.
Coincidentally, Wen Qichang was just considering handing the position of board chairman to Wen Zhaofu. Stirring trouble at this juncture was purely to cause displeasure.
Soon, the behind-the-scenes struggle broke into the open. Grandmother was furious and demanded that all three branches of the Wen family support Wen Zhaofu, even if it meant spending their last penny.
Cheng Yu, who had been inactive for nearly half a year, called Wen Zhaofu. After a moment of shared silence, Cheng Yu laughed softly and spoke first: "I'll cover the shortfall for buying back shares."
"..." Wen Zhaofu was speechless for a moment.
"I'm not doing this for you—it's for the Wen family," Cheng Yu explained. "But at this stage, you are indeed the best candidate."
In the height of spring, the Wen family did not hold their annual Spring Celebration. Instead, they kept it behind closed doors, and the warring parties faced off in a meeting that would decide their fate.
This time, Yun Fan stood by Wen Zhaofu's side, offering him full support. Some words Wen Zhaofu couldn't say, so Yun Fan said them. He had no prior connections with these elders, making it easier to speak more freely.
"The Wen family is at a crossroads—where we go from here is crucial. Everyone knows change is needed, but when it's time to act, you all resist." Yun Fan paused. "Someone has to take this step. Zhao Fu is leading the charge without threatening your interests. Why not give it a try?"
"Lasting legacy doesn't mean staying stagnant—that's waiting for death. Wake up, grandpas and grandmas!"
"Change is fine, but we don't want Wen Zhaofu!" an elderly voice called from the corner.
"If not Zhao Fu, then who? Which of you has a promising grandson to bring forward?" The meeting room door swung open, and Grandmother walked in. "What did Liu Jun promise you to make you his pawns?"
"Wake up, you old fools! You've been living it up for too long—you can't even read people anymore!"
With that, Grandmother threw several stacks of documents onto the table and said coldly, "Liu Jun has been arrested. Open your eyes and see what kind of person he is."
Yun Fan and Wen Zhaofu exchanged a glance, both frowning. They had uncovered the mastermind and were gathering evidence, but someone had beaten them to it.
The detailed evidence chain, complete with images and data, could only have come from someone close to Liu Jun.
Wen Zhaofu's phone lit up with a message from Liu Erxing.
"Not much to give you—consider this a wedding gift. I won't attend the ceremony. I wish you both well."
The massive internal turmoil of the Wen family ended just like that. And Liu Jun, due to tax evasion and other issues, ended up where he belonged.
After upheaval always comes reshuffling, and the Wen family was no exception. By the time Yun Fan helped Wen Zhaofu get the whole group in order, their wedding had been delayed by two months.
"No, we have to do it now, immediately." Wen Zhaofu grew anxious, pulling Yun Fan's hand and pacing around the living room.
"Slow down." Yun Fan held his arm. "Just because you can walk doesn't mean you should rush. Don't overdo it."
Wen Zhaofu turned and kissed him: "The port city is getting hot. Let's find a small island for the wedding. I'll arrange it now."
It was rare to see CEO Wen so impatient, but Yun Fan didn't stop him. Better to get this done—afterward, they still had horseback riding, skiing, mountain climbing, and rafting to do. So many things they wanted to do together, one by one.
*
In the island's sea of flowers, Yun Fan reached up and straightened Wen Zhaofu's tie. Wen Zhaofu looked down at him, eyes full of laughter, and couldn't resist pulling him into a long kiss.
Yun Fan flushed all over. He patted Wen Zhaofu's back firmly before being released. Wen Zhaofu wiped the corner of his mouth with his thumb and gazed at him seriously.
"We're getting married."
"Yes, married." Yun Fan smiled, looking back at Wen Zhaofu with equal tenderness.
"Xiao Yun, I love you."
"I love you too, Mr. Zhao Fu."
Wen Zhaofu hugged Yun Fan and kissed his ear: "Xiao Yun, remember—you will always be the main character of your own story. It's only because you chose me that I am fortunate enough to become the other main character."
"So go do what you want to do, anything. With me here, anything is possible."
Yun Fan paused, then slowly tightened his arms around Wen Zhaofu's back. He understood: "I'm here, sir, right by your side. Don't worry—I'll be fine."
The guests were all there, smiling as they watched the couple soon to be joined in eternal love. Grandmother sat in the front row, waving at them with particular warmth and satisfaction.
Facing so many people was usually no big deal for Yun Fan and Wen Zhaofu, but today, they were both a little nervous.
Everything they wanted to say to each other had already been said. What was shared with the guests would always be held back, but the love was no less and would always show.
They embraced, exchanged rings and kisses, and held hands as they gazed at the blue sea.
The past was behind them—they would walk together into the light.
Wen Haochen cried uncontrollably. An Liwen found a handkerchief to wipe his tears, teasing him for having no grit. Wen Haochen exclaimed, "They've been through so much, you know!"
Cheng Yu didn't attend but covered the venue cost. Liu Erxing didn't come either but provided all the drinks. They might have had much to say, but in the end, they remained silent.
Regrets might leave one desolate, but perhaps the sounds of happiness can offer some comfort.
After sunset, the guests retired to rest. Yun Fan and Wen Zhaofu held hands and walked along the beach, feeling the soft sand under their feet.
That day, Wen Zhaofu's smile never faded. Yun Fan lifted their joined hands, then lowered them, laughing along with him.
"Young master, why are you smiling again?" Yun Fan asked the classic line.
Wen Zhaofu hugged him: "Because of you, my treasure."
