Chapter 60 Can’t Believe Such Good Luck
byChapter 60: Such a Good Thing?
After a night of dreaming about his school days, Lin Yunshu woke up the next morning, put on his formal attire again, and diligently returned to his role as an office worker.
Lately, his sleep schedule had been off, and Lin Yunshu found it increasingly difficult to wake up early. In the past, he would always open his eyes five minutes before his alarm went off, but now it would ring several times while he still lay in bed.
In the end, it was Zhou Yu who turned off the alarm for him.
“What’s wrong? Not feeling like getting up today?” Zhou Yu kissed his forehead.
Lin Yunshu kept his eyes closed. Though his mind was gradually waking up, his body felt too sluggish to move.
“Just a moment…” he murmured. “I’ll get up in just a moment.”
Zhou Yu chuckled and kissed his cheek again. “It’s fine, sleep in if you need to. Winter’s here—it’s normal to want to sleep in.”
Lin Yunshu nodded in agreement.
The bedroom was warm, and Lin Yunshu’s chin was tucked under the blanket, his cheeks flushed from sleep. His long eyelashes rested lightly on the skin beneath his eyes, giving him a peaceful, sleeping face.
Zhou Yu thought Lin Yunshu looked extremely cute at that moment.
He couldn’t resist teasing him playfully. “Still so sleepy? You didn’t stay up late yesterday, did you? We only did it once, right?”
Lin Yunshu: “…”
He whispered, “Do you really think I’m that out of it?”
“Aren’t you?” Zhou Yu laughed in response.
“No!” Lin Yunshu’s tone grew firmer. “I’m awake, I just… I just can’t open my eyes…”
His voice trailed off, weakening as he spoke.
Zhou Yu laughed so hard he fell onto Lin Yunshu.
The weight of a full-grown man pressed against his chest, and Lin Yunshu soon found himself struggling to breathe.
He tried to push Zhou Yu away, but Zhou Yu didn't budge.
Lin Yunshu drew a deep breath and finally opened his eyes, only to see Zhou Yu’s hair shaking with laughter.
“Is squishing me that funny?” he asked helplessly.
Zhou Yu paused for a moment, then laughed even louder.
Lin Yunshu didn’t understand what had set off his laughter this time. He endured it for a while but eventually couldn’t take it anymore.
“Seriously, I can’t breathe,” he frowned, pushing at Zhou Yu. “Get up, I really can’t catch my breath…”
His voice trembled slightly, no longer playful.
Hearing this, Zhou Yu immediately stopped laughing and lifted himself up to look at Lin Yunshu.
Lin Yunshu’s face was pale, and he was breathing in short, shallow breaths with his head turned to the side. Zhou Yu’s heart sank. “Did I really hurt you?”
He quickly helped Lin Yunshu sit up, gently rubbing his chest. “My bad, my bad. I didn’t realize how hard I was pressing. Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Lin Yunshu didn’t respond, closing his eyes to catch his breath as he slowly regained it.
“I’m fine now…” He pushed Zhou Yu’s hand away and looked up at him with weak energy. “Boss…”
Zhou Yu: “?”
His mind blanked.
Hearing Lin Yunshu address him so formally in bed gave him a rush but also made him inexplicably nervous.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Lin Yunshu smiled, throwing the covers off and getting out of bed. He asked gently, “Should I order you a diet meal for lunch?”
Zhou Yu: “???”
He was momentarily distracted by Lin Yunshu’s smile and hadn’t processed the words before Lin Yunshu headed into the bathroom.
A few seconds later, Zhou Yu rushed to the bathroom door, shouting through the locked frosted glass, “Lin Yunshu, what do you mean by that?!”
“Are you saying I’m fat?!”
No response.
The sound of running water echoed as Lin Yunshu began his shower.
Zhou Yu, in a panic, rushed to the living room to weigh himself. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that his weight was still perfect, precise down to the decimal point.
“Let me tell you, Lin Yunshu, don't underestimate your husband. I work out daily!”
“That’s not fat! That’s muscle! The same muscle you grab onto every night when you’re enjoying yourself!”
“Do you understand?!”
·
The morning was chaos.
In the breakroom at the secretariat, Lin Yunshu yawned as he brewed himself coffee, sleepily rubbing his temples.
“Shifu, good morning!” Guo Shengyao walked over, bubbling with energy.
Lin Yunshu turned and smiled at her. “Morning. Did you have a good rest over the weekend?”
“Very good,” Guo Shengyao replied cheerfully, though she looked concerned when she noticed the slight shadows under Lin Yunshu’s eyes. “You look like you didn't get enough sleep…”
She glanced down. “And you’re drinking coffee? Did you really not sleep last night?”
“I slept,” Lin Yunshu said. “Just didn’t sleep well.”
Guo Shengyao thought it was strange. “That’s unusual. You’re usually so energetic at work.”
“Really?”
Lin Yunshu looked at her curiously, recalling his previous energy levels at work.
It really had been better than it was now.
It hadn't been that long, yet it felt like a lifetime ago.
"Winter is really here," Lin Yunshu mused.
Guo Shengyao teased playfully, "So, are you going to hibernate?"
Lin Yunshu smiled indulgently at her teasing.
"By the way, Shifu, have you heard the rumors lately?" Guo Shengyao leaned in and asked quietly.
"What rumors?" Lin Yunshu stirred his coffee absentmindedly, wondering what he might have missed recently.
"People are saying our company is planning to enter the entertainment industry. A few industry players aren’t too happy about it," Guo Shengyao said carefully. "Nothing major has happened yet, but the atmosphere is... quite subtle."
As she spoke, she made herself a cup of coffee.
For Lin Yunshu, coffee was just an occasional pick-me-up, but for office workers like Guo Shengyao, it was a daily necessity to survive the day.
Lin Yunshu waited for her to finish brewing before taking a sip from his own cup. "Entering the industry? We just made a minor investment in Starlight Entertainment, didn’t we?"
Ever since Tan Cong was outplayed by his older siblings, he had fallen out of favor with the Family Patriarch. Determined to prove himself, he broke away with his little struggling entertainment company.
After an internal evaluation, Lin'an Group's internal assessment found that Starlight Entertainment still had some potential and decided to provide some funding. It wasn’t really a big deal.
"We’ve been investing in the film and television industry for years. This is pretty normal, isn’t it?"
"Not exactly," Guo Shengyao pursed her lips. "Before, we were just acting as financial backers. Now, we might actually hold shares in Starlight Entertainment. That changes everything."
Her coffee was ready, and the two walked out of the pantry together.
Lin Yunshu covered his mouth as he yawned again.
Guo Shengyao chuckled at his expression. "Shifu, you look so funny when you yawn."
Lin Yunshu gave her a helpless glance. "You, on the other hand, are wide awake."
"Absolutely," Guo Shengyao said proudly. "I spent the weekend with friends staying in cabins in the mountain. Recharged in nature—the hot springs were incredibly relaxing."
"Really that effective?" Lin Yunshu responded. "Maybe I’ll go stay there for a couple of days sometime."
Guo Shengyao lit up even more. "Great! I’ll share the hotel details with you. The service there is excellent. If you go, bring me along—I’d love to visit again."
"Sure," Lin Yunshu agreed with a smile.
Guo Shengyao sent him the contact details but suddenly grew serious. "You’ll probably go with Mr. Zhou, right? I wouldn’t want to be a third wheel."
"No worries," Lin Yunshu said, accepting the information. "I’ll invite my brother too. Zhou Yu might bring Cong along. We can treat it as a group outing—no pressure on you."
He rarely used Zhou Yu's first name at work. Guo Shengyao was momentarily surprised when she heard it.
But Lin Yunshu seemed unaware, the name "Zhou Yu" slipping naturally from his lips with a subtle intimacy. Guo Shengyao couldn’t help but feel a strange mix of emotions—a little unsettled, yet oddly comforted, like a pleased parent.
Although the two had already gotten married and held a wedding, Lin Yunshu still acted no differently at work. Those who worked closely with him sometimes forgot that he was now the company's first gentleman. Guo Shengyao often struggled to adjust her perspective herself.
But now, it finally felt real.
"Shengyao?" Noticing the young woman zoning out mid-conversation, Lin Yunshu waved a hand in front of her eyes. "What’s on your mind?"
Guo Shengyao jolted back to attention. "Huh? Oh, nothing..."
She touched the tip of her nose and smiled. "In that case, I won’t play hard to get. I can even be your guide."
"Thank you," Lin Yunshu joked. "But you could’ve pretended a little—just for the sake of having a free guide, I would’ve invited you again anyway."
Guo Shengyao was thrilled, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him. "Shifu, you’re the best."
"Ahem!" Someone abruptly interrupted their conversation.
Zhou Yu stood not far away, shooting them a cold look with a displeased expression.
The moment their eyes met, Guo Shengyao’s smile vanished.
She turned away, pretending not to notice. "Well, Shifu, I—I should get back to work."
Without waiting for a response, she scurried off and disappeared.
Lin Yunshu shot Zhou Yu a resigned look.
Zhou Yu snorted lightly, stuffed his hands into his pockets, and turned to leave.
Lin Yunshu followed obediently.
Once inside the office, he closed the door and followed behind Zhou Yu. "Why did you have to scare her like that?"
"One glare counts as scaring her?" Zhou Yu retorted irritably. "If she’s that timid, she’s not cut out for working here."
He sat down behind his desk, pondered for a moment, and frowned even deeper. "Why are you defending her?"
"I’m not," Lin Yunshu said, caught between amusement and exasperation.
Zhou Yu let out a dismissive "tsk."
He was well aware of Lin Yunshu’s popularity. Back in school, admirers would line up outside his dorm. At work, he became the favorite matchmaking candidate in every department’s matchmaking chat groups (xiāngqīn qún). Countless alphas, omegas, and betas in the company secretly admired him—it was impossible to guard against them all.
"See, you’re still defending her," Zhou Yu said unreasonably. He looked up and noticed Lin Yunshu still standing, paused for a second, and gestured. "Sit down first."
Lin Yunshu took a seat across from him.
"Shengyao meant well," Lin Yunshu explained. "She just recommended a mountain hotel to me. Said the environment is nice, and the natural hot springs are very relaxing—perfect for a weekend getaway. She suggested we go."
Zhou Yu’s eyebrows rose slightly, homing in on the words "hot springs" and "we."
Lin Yunshu was inviting him to go to the hot springs together!
He instantly reached that conclusion.
"Was that her idea?" he asked doubtfully.
"Of course," Lin Yunshu said with a genuine look. "That’s why I said she meant well."
Zhou Yu imagined the scene: the two of them sitting quietly in an open-air hot spring, taking in the snow-capped mountains and listening to the wind. Lin Yunshu’s face flushed pink, bashful and hesitant, while he reached out and drew his beautiful partner into his arms.
Can something this good really happen?
"Ahem." He raised a hand to cover the corners of his lips that were starting to turn up. "I had no idea she'd be so considerate."
"Indeed," Lin Yunshu said. "Since you’ll be flying abroad this week, soaking in the hot springs after you return would be a great way to unwind."
Zhou Yu rubbed his chin; the more he thought about it, the better it sounded.
"Alright, let’s go then," he said, his face relaxing noticeably.
Lin Yunshu smiled. "Good, I’ll make the arrangements."
Zhou Yu nodded in satisfaction. "I know you'll handle it well."
