Chapter 28 New Member
byChapter 28 New Member
Hearing this, Mo Xiu sighed helplessly. If he had known they would struggle so much, he would have intervened from the start. Now, with body parts scattered everywhere, cleaning up was indeed a bit troublesome.
But never mind, they had a hard time too...
Reaching out, Mo Xiu released several Thunder Orbs, incinerating all of Bian Tai's remains until they were charred black. Only then did he turn to Xie Wu, who was still sitting nearby, staring blankly at him.
"Clean this place up and see if anything was left behind."
Xie Wu finally snapped back to reality at Mo Xiu's words and tried to stand up in a hurry, only to find his body utterly weak.
Everything that had just happened had almost completely drained his strength. Even so, he gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself.
He first rushed to Cheng Cheng, helping him sit up, then began searching around for any clues Bian Tai might have left.
The jacket thrown on the ground and the unbuckled belt were all tossed into the fire.
After finishing this, he remembered something and turned to Mo Xiu, saying, "He didn’t come alone. Before he arrived, someone who often followed him drove him here."
Mo Xiu frowned, thinking things had gotten more complicated. But seeing Cheng Cheng sitting not far away, staring at him like an eager husky, he sighed again and decided to handle this mess.
Simply disposing of the body probably wasn’t enough. If someone knew Bian Tai had come looking for Xie Wu, it would also be a big problem.
After all, given his current condition and strength, killing Xu Liang and getting away clean wasn’t that simple. Besides, he had more enemies in Mountain River Base than just Xu Liang.
There were still some enemies he hadn’t even met yet, so he couldn’t leave this place for now. Nor could he let Mo Qi be put in danger because of his mistakes.
Thinking that Bian Tai probably hadn’t just set his sights on Xie Wu today, Mo Xiu suspected he might have already had someone watching him. That would explain how he found out so quickly that Xie Wu had been rejected and returned to his residence.
Mo Xiu asked Xie Wu, "Then think again. Have there been any other noteworthy things these days? Has anyone been following you?"
Xie Wu instantly caught on and hurriedly said to Mo Xiu, "Yes, someone has been following me before. The person I just mentioned, the one who drove Bian Tai here, is the same one who usually follows me.
I don’t remember his name well, but I’ve heard people call him Brother Yang. He probably has the surname Yang."
Hearing this name, Mo Xiu immediately recalled that there was indeed such a person around Bian Tai. This person was originally just an ordinary individual with no Superpower.
When he first arrived at the base, he had a hard time and was rather average-looking. In order to live a better life and rely on Xu Liang and the others, he actually handed over his only relative, his young sister, to Bian Tai.
The young girl couldn’t handle the trauma and committed suicide the next day. Because of this, many people cursed this so-called Brother Yang behind his back. Mo Xiu also had some impression of this person’s appearance.
Thinking of this, he said to Xie Wu and Cheng Cheng, who had regained composure and stood up, "You two stay here and clean up. Make sure no one can tell there was a fight. As for the body, I’ll come back later to deal with it."
After saying this, Mo Xiu used his Wind Superpower to move quickly away, searching for the other man. Since Bian Tai had instructed that person to wait nearby, he probably wasn’t too far away and had come by car.
So he searched around first but only found an empty car parked two streets away from here. The door was open, and the person inside was gone.
Mo Xiu waited in the shadows for a moment and soon saw a man pulling up his pants as he walked back. Judging by his appearance, it should be that surnamed Yang, just returning from taking a leak.
It was the middle of the night, with no one around. He had parked the car in a hidden spot—perfect timing and location.
Mo Xiu didn’t plan to delay too long and quickly closed the distance to the man.
This Brother Yang clearly recognized him too. When he looked up and saw Mo Xiu, he was surprised at first, then opened his mouth to call out his name, but Mo Xiu silenced him with a finger to his lips.
Seeing this, the man immediately put on a fawning expression, bowing and scraping to Mo Xiu. Since he followed Bian Tai, he naturally knew Mo Xiu was someone Xu Liang wanted to recruit.
He asked in a sycophantic whisper, "What are you doing here? Is there something you need from me?"
Mo Xiu lowered his voice and asked, "Does anyone else know that Xie Wu returned to his place from ours?"
Hearing this, the man quickly shook his head. "He lives out in the boonies and usually doesn’t interact with others. How many people would know?
You coming here in the middle of the night, could it be… Don’t worry, he’s very reclusive. I kept an eye on him the whole way back—didn’t run into anyone!"
The man showed a smarmy grin, thinking to himself that maybe Mo Xiu had regretted his decision halfway and wanted to take him back? If he ran into Bian Tai, it would be quite a show.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Mo Xiu grabbed him by the throat and snapped his neck.
The kill was quick and clean. If it weren’t for the nearby residential houses and the concern that using his Lightning Superpower might be too conspicuous—the lightning flashes could attract attention—he wouldn’t have even used his hands.
But since the man was dead, it was done. Fortunately, the car wasn’t parked too close, probably because this guy didn’t want to interrupt Bian Tai and planned to kill time nearby, returning to pick him up when it was about time.
Still, this distance made things much easier for Mo Xiu.
After finishing this, Mo Xiu quickly left, completely unaware that while he was doing this, a patrol team was heading in his direction from two streets away.
But someone’s spiritual sense, which had been following him, detected them first and intercepted them, redirecting them elsewhere.
When Mo Xiu returned to the area near Xie Wu’s place, he saw they had already handled everything. The bloodstains on the ground were covered with sand, leaving only Bian Tai’s body, which had been chopped into pieces and charred black by the Lightning Superpower, untouched.
"Mo Bro, you’re back!" Cheng Cheng quickly walked up to him, smiling as he asked, "Brother, what were you doing just now? Dealing with that henchman of Bian Tai?"
"Mm," Mo Xiu nodded. "That person is dead."
Hearing this, Cheng Cheng’s smile stiffened for a moment, and a flash of surprise passed through Xie Wu’s eyes, though he quickly felt it made perfect sense.
If they didn’t take care of that person, once Xu Liang found out Bian Tai was dead and started investigating, that guy would surely lead suspicion to them. At the very least, Xie Wu himself wouldn’t get off easy, so he felt even more grateful to Mo Xiu.
On the other hand, though Cheng Cheng’s smile was somewhat forced, he accepted it quickly. Having lived in the apocalypse for so long, everyone was gradually getting used to this kind of thing.
Seeing both their reactions were acceptable, Mo Xiu was satisfied enough. He had them grab tools, and the group quickly found a hidden spot to bury the bodies.
As they buried them, Mo Xiu couldn’t help but sigh inwardly—if only they had someone with Fire Superpower here. Burning them to ashes would be much more convenient than digging shovel by shovel like this.
After finishing everything, all three of them were sweating buckets. Especially Xie Wu, who since the apocalypse had been eating irregularly and hadn’t had much to eat these past few days. His body was very weak.
If the other two hadn’t been standing nearby, he would have collapsed on the spot.
Taking a deep breath, Xie Wu said earnestly to Mo Xiu and Cheng Cheng, "Thank you for helping me. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what would have happened today. I owe you my life."
Hearing this, Cheng Cheng quickly waved his hand, also feeling a sense of lingering fear.
He didn’t know why, but when he saw Xie Wu leaving earlier, he felt like Xie Wu might have some other troubles.
He thought Xie Wu was a pretty good person, different from the others who had been sent over from the start.
So when he couldn’t sleep at night and went to the newly cultivated field in the apartment backyard to help plants grow, he thought of Xie Wu.
Remembering that Xie Wu didn’t live too far away, he ended up going over to check on him, never expecting to witness such an unexpected scene.
"Don’t be so polite. A pervert like that had it coming! Besides, I didn’t really help much.
If Brother Mo hadn’t shown up to save us, we both would’ve been in danger. So you only owe Brother Mo, not me."
Cheng Cheng grinned goofily and waved his hand, finally allowing Xie Wu to chill out a little, a slight smile appearing on his face.
He then turned to look at Mo Xiu again: "I know I don't have anything of value to repay you with right now, but if there's anything you need, just say the word."
Before Mo Xiu could respond, Cheng Cheng, standing nearby, looked at him eagerly and said, "Mo-ge, let's take Xie Wu back with us. Look, he's already been targeted—it's just too dangerous."
Upon hearing this, Mo Xiu raised an eyebrow: "You're really soft-hearted, huh?"
Cheng Cheng scratched his head sheepishly. After all, he himself still relied on these two big shots for protection. Taking the initiative to suggest bringing someone else along didn’t seem entirely appropriate.
Xie Wu noticed his embarrassment. Though deeply grateful to Cheng Cheng, he knew the final decision wasn’t Cheng Cheng’s to make. He smiled and chimed in to ease the tension: "I’m already incredibly grateful that you were willing to save me."
As he spoke, Xie Wu also began considering whether he should drive his RV (mobile home) away and find another place to stay after returning.
Unexpectedly, Mo Xiu glanced over and changed his tune: "You’ll come back with us later. I’ve already asked around—aside from the two who died, no one knows you returned. Come with us and act as though you never left."
This way, they could back each other up and collectively avoid suspicion.
Mo Xiu had thought it all through. Xie Wu felt a surge of excitement upon hearing this—didn't that mean they were letting him join the group?
