Chapter 37: A False Pregnancy Diagnosis

Hera was originally thinking about how to lure Ke Lin to the Wild Wolf Corps headquarters. Unexpectedly, not long after, Jiang Yi and Ke Lin showed up on their own.

It happened like this: after the military internship ended, Jiang Yi and the others got together, and Jia Zheyu told him he had to bring Ke Lin along.

They hadn't seen each other in ages.

Since this was a small get-together with friends, Jiang Yi agreed.

When Jiang Yi and Ke Lin appeared hand in hand, Jia Zheyu's jaw dropped... again.

“You… you two are really together?!” Jia Zheyu widened his eyes, staring at their hands.

Far from letting go, Jiang Yi raised their tightly held hands to show him. “I thought you'd figured it out.”

Jia Zheyu had speculated before, but he never really believed it, especially since Jiang Yi really didn’t seem like he was gay!

I mean, it just didn’t fit his stereotype of gay men.

Okay, fine, that was his own bias talking!

Both of them seemed very straight, but when they stood so close together, no one could say they weren’t a perfect match.

Was this the power of good looks?

In that moment, Jia Zheyu’s mind raced with countless thoughts. Finally, he sighed, convinced himself to accept it, and patted Jiang Yi’s shoulder with a complicated expression. Looking at the two of them, he said, “Jiang Yi, Ke Lin, I won’t say anything else. Wishing you both 99!”

Ke Lin's bloodline awakening was an extremely serious matter under federal law. Once a werewolf was identified as a wild wolf, they could be executed on the spot.

For now, their friends didn’t need to know.

So, Ke Lin appeared in his usual semi-beast form, wearing a collar.

Of course, the collar that had been tampered with by the research institute had long been disposed of by Jiang Yi. The one he wore now was just an ordinary black leather collar.

When Xin Ziyu saw Ke Lin appear, a fleeting look of melancholy crossed his face.

Zuo Lai had been taken by the government for centralized protection for over three months, with all communication cut off. Sometimes, Xin Ziyu even wondered if Zuo Lai was still alive.

Jiang Yi noticed his concern. “Don’t worry, Senior Zuo Lai will be out soon.”

As far as he knew, Hera and the others were planning to rescue the controlled Minority Race Espers. Only then would they publicly announce that Snow City had changed hands.

“Yeah, let’s take our seats,” Xin Ziyu said with a smile to Jiang Yi and Ke Lin.

Jia Zheyu leaned close to Jiang Yi and whispered, “It’s a good thing Ke Lin doesn’t have any abilities, or he’d be ‘imprisoned’ for protection too. But why did you specifically mention Senior Zuo Lai in front of Senior Ziyu? Are they particularly close?”

Jiang Yi gave him a surprised look. Although he was closer to Xin Ziyu, did Jia Zheyu really not notice at all?

Xin Ziyu’s demeanor in front of Zuo Lai was completely different from how he acted around others.

Their relationship was an open secret among many classmates.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Jia Zheyu scratched his head, confused. Seeing Jiang Yi and Ke Lin holding hands, he suddenly thought of something. “They’re not also…”

Xin Ziyu was still right in front of them. Jiang Yi nudged him. “Hurry up, you dummy.”

After several rounds of drinks, everyone was tipsy, and they were the only customers left in the restaurant.

Jiang Yi had also drunk quite a bit, his usually pale and calm cheeks tinged with a faint blush, making Ke Lin unable to look away.

For some reason, he had been feeling very "horny" lately, fantasizing whenever he saw his master and even feeling somewhat restless.

Ke Lin held an animal's mindset in this regard, feeling no shame about it. He rarely suppressed his desires in bed and was becoming increasingly proactive.

Jiang Yi simply thought it was Little Wolf, just discovering the pleasures of love, completely consumed by it—and wasn’t he the same?

The two exchanged a glance, their eyes dark with desire.

It was time to say goodbye.

Ke Lin helped Jiang Yi up and told Jia Zheyu and the others they were heading out first.

"Stay for a few more drinks," Jia Zheyu urged, absentmindedly grabbing the hem of Ke Lin’s shirt as he reached out.

Ke Lin was only wearing a white T-shirt, and as Jia Zheyu pulled it back, it outlined the curves of his torso.

His stomach was right at Jia Zheyu’s eye level. Jia Zheyu, with bleary eyes, leaned closer and said, "Ke Lin, did you drink that much? Your belly is so swollen, like my auntie when she was first pregnant..."

After saying this, he passed out on the table.

Although Jiang Yi had also drunk a lot, he was only buzzed. Hearing Jia Zheyu’s words, he looked down.

He hadn’t thought about pregnancy before, but now that Jia Zheyu mentioned it, he noticed Ke Lin’s slightly bulging belly, like a little mound, while the rest of his body hadn’t gained weight.

It really did look like early pregnancy.

But Ke Lin was male, a male wolf—he was sure of that.

Jiang Yi placed his hand on Ke Lin’s belly. It just felt hard and a little bloated.

"Ke Lin, let’s go to the hospital tomorrow," Jiang Yi said. There's something off about Ke Lin's stomach.

Ke Lin, still looking forward to tonight's action, agreed nonchalantly, "A checkup? Sure, Master. Let’s go home first."

That night, Ke Lin seemed particularly affected by the alcohol, eagerly taking the lead with Jiang Yi until the early hours. The next day, he slept until 2 p.m.

If Jiang Yi hadn’t been able to sense that Ke Lin was genuinely asleep, he would have thought he was unconscious.

Lately, Ke Lin had indeed been sleepier than usual.

After Ke Lin woke up, the two went to the hospital.

    After a series of examinations.

    "False pregnancy?!"

Jiang Yi repeated the doctor’s diagnosis in surprise.

"Yes, pseudocyesis is a very rare condition. It may be related to abnormal estrogen levels or a psychological confusion in the patient’s perception, which manifests physically," explained the experienced chief physician, who had studied the condition.

Ke Lin placed his hand on his own belly. His lower abdomen was slightly swollen and firm, as if truly carrying a small life.

    It was their offspring.

"If it’s pseudocyesis, why is his belly swollen?" Jiang Yi asked the doctor.

"He doesn’t have a uterus; there’s no place inside his body to nurture life. The swelling is due to a buildup of gas. Because of pseudocyesis, his body and even his consciousness fully believe he is carrying a life. Symptoms like sleepiness, a swollen belly, and morning sickness are all normal," the doctor explained.

"Doctor, is there any solution?" Jiang Yi asked, his tone tinged with worry. Ever since learning about the false pregnancy, Ke Lin's expression hadn't been right.

The way he touched his belly was as if there really was a little baby inside.

"Cases of false pregnancy in men are too rare. I haven't found any authoritative, guaranteed solutions yet. If it's caused by psychological factors, we could try abortion pills to make the patient believe he has miscarried. If it's due to hormonal reasons, then we'll need to balance his hormones," the doctor observed Ke Lin's condition, suspecting he might be experiencing both.

Jiang Yi wouldn't let Ke Lin take abortion pills. Forget whether Ke Lin was willing; he himself couldn't accept it.

Jiang Yi was more inclined to believe the latter possibility. Back at the shelter, the drugs Caston injected into Ke Lin contained feminizing agents, which not only affected Ke Lin's growth but also his hormones.

This influence hadn't shown on the surface, but since being with Jiang Yi, it slowly affected Ke Lin's body on a subconscious level.

Because Jiang Yi believed that if possible, Ke Lin would be willing to carry their child, even though Jiang Yi didn't need it.

Seeing their hesitation, the doctor reminded them, "The patient's abdomen is now close to the size of a three-month pregnancy. It's best for the family to help him 'miscarry' before it expands to the size of a five-month pregnancy. Men don't have a uterus that can expand dozens of times. If the abdomen becomes too large, the abdominal cavity and intestines could rupture from the pressure, with severe consequences."

The doctor added, "The family should keep a close eye on the patient's emotional and psychological state. He might act irrationally to protect the child that isn't there."

On the way home, Ke Lin remained very calm.

He even volunteered to Jiang Yi, "Master, I know this is just a false pregnancy. I'm a man; how could I possibly have a baby?"

But when Jiang Yi mentioned getting his stomach flat again—Jiang Yi didn't dare use words like miscarriage or abortion—Ke Lin fell silent.

After returning home, Jiang Yi scoured the internet for information.

There was almost no real information about male pregnancy or false pregnancy. What appeared were mostly settings from novels or comics, like matriarchal societies, intersex, or even ABO.

Among the countless pieces of information online, Jiang Yi stumbled upon a research report about werewolves from many years ago.

Long ago, when relations between humans and minority races weren't so hostile—or when minority races weren't yet resisting—academia once saw a wave of research on minority races.

The report mentioned that researchers dissected a wild wolf captured outside the protective barrier.

They discovered that in this male wild wolf's abdominal cavity, near where it connected to the intestines, there was a walnut-sized fleshy sac, which wasn't found in ordinary werewolves.

Some argued that the sac's structure resembled a uterus, but the sample size was too small to verify. Others believed it was just a benign tumor that happened to grow near the intestines.

Jiang Yi quickly skimmed through the entire content. The glow from the computer screen made his eyes appear dark and bright. He thought to himself that perhaps the werewolf people still held many secrets unknown to humans.

This concerned Ke Lin's body, so he had to be cautious.

Thus, he contacted Hera, only saying that Ke Lin's stomach was feeling uncomfortable, the hospital couldn't find the cause, and he wondered if the wild wolf tribe had its own physicians.

A flash of surprise crossed Hera's eyes, and she inquired with concern about Ke Lin's condition.

Finally, she arranged to meet Jiang Yi tomorrow. If the situation was serious, she could take them to the headquarters' medical room, where doctors specialized in treating wild wolves.

After hanging up with Hera, Jiang Yi saw Ke Lin standing at the study door.

"Master, I'm going to feel unwell tomorrow. Can I stay home?" Ke Lin stood quietly, his expression normal as he spoke.

Jiang Yi's heart sank, but he showed no sign on his face. Instead, he smiled lightly and walked over to Ke Lin, wrapping his arms around his waist.

"Look who's psychic now, knowing he'll be unwell tomorrow."

Ke Lin didn't argue, just silently hugged Jiang Yi back, resting his chin on Jiang Yi's shoulder and murmuring, "I just know."

Before, when they embraced like this, there was still some distance between their lower bodies. Now, however, Jiang Yi felt something hard between them—Ke Lin's growing belly.

As his master, he had been so careless. Little Wolf's belly had grown to nearly the size of a three-month pregnancy before he noticed something was wrong.

Jiang Yi also rested his chin on Ke Lin's shoulder, gently soothing Ke Lin's back with his hands. He sensed fear and resistance from Ke Lin.

"Don't be afraid, Little Wolf. Master will always be by your side."
