Chapter 16
byChapter 16
Which is better: getting remarried or not having a scar on your face? Rong Yu'an found it incredibly hard to decide. He had no idea how big the scar on his face would be—if it turned out really ugly, even he would be bothered by it, so wouldn't it be better to avoid the scar?
But if he didn't remarry, he wouldn't have a single relative here—his second uncle, second aunt, and grandfather didn't seem to regard him as family either. They hadn't even sent him a single message since he left the Rong family. So that meant remarrying was more important.
Finding new family was something he had to do. Otherwise, if he really ended up divorcing Gu Shenhan, with no children, friends, or relatives, how would he be any different from a lonely old man?
On second thought, Gu Shenhan only said not to talk about remarrying again, not that he couldn't actually remarry! He just wouldn't mention it in front of Gu Shenhan—that was easy enough.
Once he figured that out, Rong Yu'an continued to recover.
During the day, Gu Shenhan went out to work, and Lu Yi came to take care of him. She helped him wash his hair and wash up at night.
She also offered to feed him at meals, but he refused, saying he could manage fine with his left hand. The chefs were very considerate, making all the dishes into small balls and dice so he could scoop them up with a spoon.
During the day, he could continue learning new things—after all, swiping a tablet with his left hand was no different from using his right.
That noon, while he was having lunch, Gu Shenhan video-called him: "Do you have anything going on this afternoon?"
Rong Yu'an said, "I was planning to watch a movie this afternoon. Brother Han, do you need something?"
He had discovered that the fastest way to change his speaking habits was still to watch TV dramas and movies, then imitate and practice.
"It's nothing. I'll pick you up in a bit, and we'll go to the bank."
"The bank?"
"Yeah. Did you forget what I promised you at the horse ranch? After you finish eating, go change. I'll be there soon."
Rong Yu'an suddenly remembered—the two million reward?
He had originally taken it as a joke and hadn't thought he would actually get that money. Was he actually going to get it?
Rong Yu'an was still happy about going out. The danger he had encountered was an accident; he hadn't become afraid to go out because of it.
After lunch, he changed into clothes to go out with the help of Lu Yi. Just then, Gu Shenhan came in and asked where his ID card was.
Rong Yu'an was puzzled: "Do I need to bring my ID card to the bank?"
Gu Shenhan said, "You have to. Today, I'm going to sell you there to work illegally."
Rong Yu'an was taken aback: "Brother Han, don't fool me. I know that's not allowed."
Gu Shenhan laughed: "Oh, my little antique has gotten smarter."
Then he told Lu Yi to find a hat for Rong Yu'an, saying it was a bit sunny outside. Lu Yi found a white baseball cap, the only one they had. Gu Shenhan saw it was a bit frayed, so he had her put it back and put Rong Yu'an's ID card into his own wallet: "Come on, let's go buy you two new ones."
Rong Yu'an said, "I don't get tanned easily. I don't need to buy one."
Gu Shenhan guided Rong Yu'an into the back seat of the car: "The sun might irritate your wound, so it's better to wear one."
Rong Yu'an: "Oh."
Xiao Ke drove very smoothly.
Rong Yu'an rested his left arm on the door and looked at the scenery outside the window. When he first arrived, those tall buildings gave him the illusion that they might collapse at any moment. Now that he was used to it, he felt better.
"What are you looking at?" Gu Shenhan took off his suit jacket and covered Rong Yu'an with it. "You're so engrossed."
"That!" Rong Yu'an pointed into the distance. "Brother Han, what is that?"
"That's an amusement park over there. If you mean that round thing spinning, it's called a 'Ferris wheel.' People can sit in those little cabins and go around and around. When you get to the top, you can probably see half the city."
"Can adults ride it too?"
"No."
Rong Yu'an felt a wave of disappointment. He had been on a plane twice, but the first time he was too scared to look outside, and the second time he was too uncomfortable to care.
Gu Shenhan: "Adults can't ride it. Two- or three-year-old kids can."
Rong Yu'an instinctively said, "Then I can't either."
Suddenly, he heard Gu Shenhan laugh.
Rong Yu'an turned his head and suddenly remembered what Gu Shenhan had said when buying the tablet: "Brother Han, are you teasing me?"
Gu Shenhan said, "People in their seventies and eighties can ride it too. If you want to, we'll go after you're better."
Rong Yu'an nodded: "Brother Han, you seem to be in a good mood today."
"You can tell?"
"Yeah. Did something good happen?"
"Isn't it a good thing to take a little kid like me out for a drive?"
"?"
Rong Yu'an's eyes were full of pure confusion. But that only made him seem even more adorable and innocent to Gu Shenhan.
Just then, the car arrived at the bank. As soon as Rong Yu'an entered, he shivered from the overly cold air conditioning. Seeing this, Gu Shenhan quickly wrapped his jacket around him again.
The bank manager came over: "Mr. Gu, Mrs. Gu, you're here. Please, this way."
Gu Shenhan: "Is what I requested ready?"
Manager Li said, "It's ready. It can be used after registration and paperwork."
Rong Yu'an tugged at Gu Shenhan's sleeve: "Brother Han, what is this?"
Gu Shenhan took an envelope from Manager Li and poured out the contents.
There were two cards. One card showed a light green lawn with a little boy squatting on it, long hair, a small white mushroom bag slung diagonally across his shoulder, tying his shoelaces and looking up with a confused look.
The other was a landscape card featuring Mount Tai under the moonlight.
Manager Li said: "Mr. Gu, please take a look and see if you're satisfied with the effect. This Mount Tai Moon card, as per your request, is the supplementary card linked to your credit card. The other one is for savings."
Gu Shenhan asked Rong Yu'an: "Do you like them?"
Rong Yu'an asked: "What are they for?"
Gu Shenhan said: "To save money."
Rong Yu'an looked at the little kid on the green card. At first, he thought it was a child, but upon closer inspection, it wasn't a child.
"Brother Han, is this me?"
"Yeah, do you remember?"
"Yes." Rong Yuan remembered. It was the first day he went out with Gu Shenhan after arriving at the Gu residence. He was tying his shoelaces, and Gu Shenhan was smiling at him for some reason. He asked Gu Shenhan why he was smiling, but Gu Shenhan didn't admit it, insisting that Rong Yuan's eyes were playing tricks on him.
"Just these two cards," Gu Shenhan said. "Help him go through the formalities. This is his ID card."
Gu Shenhan took Rong Yuan to sit in the VIP reception room to open the card. A bank clerk came over to assist Rong Yuan with the registration. After it was done, Gu Shenhan deposited two million into the green card but set a daily spending limit of one hundred thousand. It wasn't that he was afraid Rong Yuan would spend too much; he was afraid Rong Yuan would be scammed.
As for the other supplementary card, he also temporarily set a single-day limit of one hundred thousand.
After finishing, he gave both cards to Rong Yuan and took him to buy three baseball caps: a blue Swofu cap with plum blossoms and cranes, a white one with a crazy bird, and a gray one with a tech rabbit embroidery.
Rong Yuan looked good in all of them, but he ultimately decided to keep only the plum blossom and crane one. However, when he told Gu Shenhan, Gu Shenhan had already paid for all three.
Gu Shenhan said, "It's good to have more to match your clothes. Your clothes are already pretty plain in color, so a few extra hats aren't too much. If it weren't so inconvenient for you to try on clothes right now, I'd have let you pick out some autumn wear as well."
Rong Yuan didn't want to get into the habit of spending too much, so he asked in a low voice, "Can't we return them?"
Gu Shenhan leaned close to his ear and said, "We can. But I think you look good in all of them, so don't return them."
Rong Yuan stared blankly at the person in the mirror: "..."
His face reddened, and he was a bit startled.
Suddenly, he felt that the mall wasn't cold anymore, and his palms were even sweating.
Rong Yuan fanned himself. So, without realizing it, he and Gu Shenhan had become this close?
Rong Yuan felt a little uneasy.
Just then, the sales clerk wrapped up the items. As Rong Yuan took them, his phone rang.
Few people ever contacted him, so Gu Shenhan asked, "Who's calling?"
Rong Yuan said, "It's Grandma."
He answered, a bit awkwardly, "Hello?"
The old lady asked, "Is An An at home? I heard you were hurt. How are you? Did Shen Han take you to see a doctor properly?"
Rong Yuan accidentally hit the speaker button, but didn't think much of it, and replied, "I've seen one. I'm much better now, Grandma, don't worry."
The old lady asked, "Where are you then? I'll come by to see you in a bit."
Rong Yuan glanced at Gu Shenhan. Gu Shenhan took the phone, "Grandma, I'm taking him out for a stroll. How about we come over to see you in a little while?"
The old lady said, "That works. Just bring him to my office. I've just had that set of scriptures framed, and I want him to take a look."
Gu Shenhan asked Rong Yuan if there was anything else he wanted to buy. Rong Yuan thought about it and came up with nothing. He had food, shelter, clothes, and the chance to study at Gu Shenhan's place—he lacked nothing.
So the two of them carried the three hats to the Lianshan Group.
The old lady had just finished lunch after meeting with several provincial leaders that morning. Standing in front of the set of the *Diamond Sutra*, she asked her assistant, "Has Shen Han made any big moves in the past two days?"
"No," the assistant said. "Ever since the Second Young Master brought the Second Madam back from the hospital, he's been going to work and coming home on time as usual."
"That doesn't sound like him," the old lady said. "What about Cheng Zhi?"
"The eldest young master has been pretty quiet too."
After Fei Wenxi was taken away by the police, he insisted that threatening and intimidating Rong Yuan was his own idea, and that it was all because Gu Shenhan had left their Fei family no way out. So for now, the police hadn't taken any action against Gu Chengzhi.
The assistant asked, "Do you think this matter can be smoothed over peacefully?"
The old lady sighed. "It's hard."
Soon, Gu Shenhan and Rong Yuan arrived. The old lady examined Rong Yuan's injuries and asked her secretary to take Rong Yuan to pick out some tea snacks he liked.
Once everyone else was out of the room, the old lady asked Gu Shenhan, "How do you plan to handle this?"
Gu Shenhan said, "Don't worry, I certainly won't shake the foundation of the Gu family. But he broke the rules first, so don't try to stop me no matter what I do."
"Always remember to leave some leeway."
Gu Shenhan smiled but didn't comment.
Just then, Rong Yuan came back cheerfully. The secretary was holding a tray with two small cakes: a mango mousse and a Black Forest cake, each no bigger than a baby's palm. There was also half a glass of peach coconut milk.
Gu Shenhan asked, "Why so little?"
The secretary looked at Rong Yuan with fondness and laughed. "The Second Madam said it's wasteful to take too much. He just had lunch not long ago and insisted on not taking more."
The old lady said, "That's fine. If you're still hungry later, you can get more. Shen Han, you keep him company while he eats here. I have an old comrade coming by to give me some local specialties, so I need to go meet him. You can take some back with you when you head home."
Gu Shenhan said okay, pulled out a tissue, and leaned over to wipe Rong Yuan's mouth. "Little messy cat."
Rong Yuan dodged a little.
"Why are you dodging?"
"Nothing." Rong Yuan looked at the cake. "Han Ge, aren't you going to eat? Grandma's pastries here are really delicious."
Gu Shenhan laughed. "The 'pastry' I want to eat isn't ready yet. When the time is right, I'll dig in. You go ahead and eat. And by the way, how many times have you called me wrong today?"
Rong Yuan: "..."
Gu Shenhan said, "Feed me a bite, and I'll forgive you."
Rong Yuan silently changed forks, cut a piece of cake, and brought it to Gu Shenhan's mouth.
Gu Shenhan bit down on the fork, looking down at Rong Yuan with an unabashedly aggressive gaze.
It was a long moment before he let go, gently flicking Rong Yuan's ear with a sly smile. "What a good little one."
Rong Yuan instantly felt like he was on fire, his heart fluttering with panic.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, someone else was also burning with rage. Gu Chengzhi thought that since Fei Wenxi hadn't caused any trouble, Gu Shenhan wouldn't be able to do anything to him. But to his utter surprise, the girlfriend he had just started dating suddenly broke up with him!
Her family even called him, sternly demanding that he never contact them again!
