Chapter 18: Chi Xingcun Has a Mental Illness

When he reached the school gate, he looked up and saw Fu Chenzhan.

Fu Chenzhan was looking at him too, then walked over.

But before Fu Chenzhan could say anything, he turned, spotted Qin Liyi, and ran toward him without a second thought.

Qin Liyi had come specifically to pick him up. He saw Fu Chenzhan too, but totally ignored him and slung his arm over Chi Xingcun's shoulder.

"Why'd class end so late? I've been waiting forever."

Chi Xingcun tried hard to ignore the Fu Chenzhan who'd just shown up, forcing a smile and saying, "We had a meeting today."

    "What meeting?"

    "The sports meet's next month."

    "What day?"

    "The fifteenth."

"Ours is at the start of next month. What a coincidence—come watch me compete."

Hearing that, Chi Xingcun's eyes lit up. "What events'd you sign up for?"

Qin Liyi said, "The fifty, the hundred, the thousand, the three-thousand, plus the relay, javelin, and badminton. I didn't really wanna compete, but if I've got nothing to do, my mom'll drag me back to work."

The more Chi Xingcun listened, the more envious he got. Qin Liyi was insanely athletic—he'd known that since they were kids. Basically, he always won the school sprints—fast and strong.

When he played badminton, he couldn't use a regular shuttlecock, or he'd smash it to pieces in one swing.

A lot of people couldn't even handle his normal strength, let alone his speed—by the time they returned one shot, the next was already right there.

Some top international coaches had even tried to recruit him, but Qin Liyi didn't wanna take someone else's spot, and his parents weren't on board either—they just wanted him to take over the company.

"I... I wanna compete too," Chi Xingcun said quietly, sounding unsure.

But Qin Liyi heard him. He stopped dead in his tracks and looked down at Chi Xingcun.

    "Compete? In what? Broadcasting?"

    "You—I'm done talking to you!"

Pissed off at being teased, Chi Xingcun turned and stormed off. Qin Liyi immediately chased after him, apologizing like crazy.

"Sorry, sorry, my bad. I only asked 'cause I think your voice is really nice."

Qin Liyi grabbed his arm, and Chi Xingcun stopped but shot him a glare.

"So what event do you wanna sign up for?"

Chi Xingcun said, "I... I haven't decided yet... I just wanna participate, but I don't know what I can do. I know I'm not in great shape..."

As they were talking, a couple of people walked by. One of them looked over and said, "Disgusting gays, makes me sick."

    They both heard it.

The smile on Qin Liyi's face vanished instantly, his eyes turning cold and vicious. He turned, took two steps, grabbed the guy by the collar, and yanked him close, looking down at him.

    "What'd you say?"

Qin Liyi's tone had none of his usual laid-back attitude.

A crowd immediately formed around them.

"I said, you're both gay. You were born to pollute society. You're useless to humanity. Why don't you just go die?"

Even though this guy was scared of Qin Liyi's look and build, with so many people around, he wasn't gonna back down—instead, he doubled down.

    The people around them gasped.

Qin Liyi didn't hesitate—he raised his fist and slammed it down, knocking the guy to the ground. Then he kicked him hard in the stomach until he stopped moving, and only then let go.

Chi Xingcun snapped out of it and pulled Qin Liyi away.

Qin Liyi let himself be pulled back. He turned, looked down at Chi Xingcun, whose eyes were full of fear, and led him away. Seeing teachers and security rushing over, he pulled out his phone, made a call, and then got Chi Xingcun into the car.

The door closed. Qin Liyi didn't drive off—he just sat there, saying irritably, "What's wrong with being gay? Who does he think he is to judge anyone? He deserved that."

He turned to look at Chi Xingcun, only to see him trembling, head down.

He froze, startled, and quickly leaned over. "What's wrong?"

He saw Chi Xingcun's face go pale, his eyes vacant and full of terror. When he reached out to touch him, his face was ice cold.

    "Young master? What's wrong?"

He quickly buckled Chi Xingcun's seatbelt and drove to the hospital.

He'd already called ahead. After arriving at the hospital, he took him straight to the exam room.

But before the doctor could finish the exam, Chi Xingcun had mostly pulled himself together.

His body and mind were both scared, but his rational side told him he didn't wanna stay here.

"I'm fine," he said, grabbing Qin Liyi.

Qin Liyi's brows were knitted tight, his expression serious. "You weren't okay just now. Let the doctor check you out."

"I was just scared," Chi Xingcun said.

Qin Liyi pressed his lips together. "But you didn't look like you were just scared."

"I'm really fine. I hate the smell of hospitals."

Hearing him say that, Qin Liyi had no choice but to let it go and take him home.

He didn't think he'd been that harsh—there wasn't even any blood. Could it really have scared Chi Xingcun that bad?

The young master had seen fights like this before, right?

    Why was he like this?

    ......

Chi Xingcun brought Qin Liyi back to his place.

After Chi Xingcun went to his room to rest, Qin Liyi went to the living room and called the doctor back.

"Based on the exam you just did, what do you think it could be?"

"There are many possibilities. Given the absence of external injuries, our current assessment points to a psychological condition. However, pinpointing the exact issue would require more comprehensive testing. I'd suggest you persuade your friend to visit the hospital again. He may seem fine on the surface, but if something goes wrong, the consequences could be severe."

    A psychological condition?

Qin Liyi thought he was going crazy! Chi Xingcun had a psychological condition?? How was that even possible?!

He was the most optimistic, radiant ray of sunshine in their eyes!

Even if all of them were driven to death, Chi Xingcun couldn't possibly have a psychological condition!

No, wait—Chi Xingcun had changed... He wasn't the same as before. It seemed to start after his birthday...

Damn Fu Chenzhan! Couldn't he afford a gift?!

    Shit! Fuck! Go die!

Veins bulged on Qin Liyi's forehead, and he couldn't stop himself from feeling like he was falling apart...

    ......

He soon received another call from his parents, asking why he had gotten into trouble again. They asked him if it was so hard to be someone who makes no mistakes!

They asked him why he couldn't be perfect like his older brother!

They asked him if he was useless!

Qin Liyi sat in the living room, holding back from going crazy, then went upstairs, pushed open Chi Xingcun's door, climbed onto Chi Xingcun's bed, and wrapped his arms around his little sun.
