Chapter 19
byChapter 19: Resonance
As Xia You's consciousness began to return, she felt she was lying somewhere with a heaviness enveloping her, and seemed to be surrounded by something, rendering her immobile.
She tried to move her fingers and heard a sound reminiscent of an IV drip tube swaying.
...An IV tube?
Xia You felt weak and didn't want to move. She just lay still without opening her eyes.
So sleepy.
Want to sleep.
Her mental energy dissipated layer by layer. Xia You didn't bother to restrain it as she usually would, letting it drift freely around her.
After all, this should be the Marshal's mansion. The healing mental energy wouldn't harm anyone...
Hm? Major General Wei is in the yard... And in front of him, is that a vehicle not seen since the interstellar era?
Not sure, let's observe more...
Xia You also saw Meng Wenxuan weaving through a bunch of medical equipment in the downstairs living room. Around him danced a myriad of data line charts, which made Xia You's mental energy pay its respects.
Through the haze, Xia You's mental senses picked up muffled conversations. One voice sounded similar to the kind old butler she had met upon her arrival at the Marshal's mansion.
"Young master, the gentleman is your spouse, your life partner. How could you leave him alone at the Marshal's mansion, unfamiliar with everything on Blue Star, while you handle affairs with the legion?"
"...Uncle Zhou, I..."
Another voice was softer, but Xia You immediately recognized it as the Marshal's.
"No excuses! I've watched you grow up, and you've always been the type who can't engage in a warm conversation!"
"...Let's not discuss this. I need to speak with Wenxuan about the situation." The Marshal sounded utterly resigned, displaying a vulnerability Xia You had never heard before.
Xia You's psychic tendrils pressed close to the wall, stealthily approaching the corner of the corridor where the voices came from, gingerly extending to eavesdrop.
"Alright, enough of that. Sir, how could you assign such coursework to the young master? Each of those books is as thick as a fist..."
Xia You's mental tendril vigorously nodded in agreement.
Who in the world would read such hefty tomes?
"...Uncle Zhou, those are indeed courses intended for heirs..."
"You said it yourself, they're for heirs!" Uncle Zhou's voice escalated, "Now that he's your partner, how can you treat him with the same education meant for heirs?!"
Xia You's psychic tendril wavered on the wall.
Ah, so educating an heir and a spouse aren't the same thing...
...So, does that mean he doesn't have to study those weighty books?
Exactly! Why should a lazy little salted fish, who only wants a life of leisure, be forced to rigorously strive and exert himself?
As Xia You pondered, his mental tendril swayed even more cheerfully.
But a moment later, he felt his psychic energy being locked onto by a vast and menacing presence, instantly freezing in place.
Lu Yinghuai's psychic energy fixed on the sneaky tendril in front of him. Only when the tendril coiled up did Lu Yinghuai gently envelop Xia You's wandering psychic energy, guiding it back to the bedroom.
As his mental energy returned, Xia You's eyes shot open, and he guiltily glanced around, sighing with relief.
Opening his eyes, Xia You realized that the weight on him wasn't due to illness; it was indeed the heavy head of an adult panther resting on him.
The black panther, initially resting its head on Xia You's waist while watching the door, turned its head to meet Xia You's gaze when he looked over. Its golden eyes remained indifferent and cold, yet they clearly reflected the slender figure of the young man lying on the bed.
The panther let out a soft growl, lifting its head from Xia You and settling beside him.
This gesture tugged at Xia You's heartstrings.
Perhaps due to the Marshal's training, Yuan Yuan would jump onto trees, perch on railings, lounge on sofas, but never approach Xia You's bed. Xia You had made several attempts to cuddle with the panther in bed, but it always smoothly slipped out of his grasp.
However, today it obediently lay by his side, its tail no longer swishing but resting on Xia You's blanket-covered legs, the tip curling as if tucking in the blanket's edge.
Xia You knew he had restless sleep. So, during the apocalypse, he would envelope himself with psychic energy before sleeping, always half-awake, never allowing himself to fall into a deep slumber.
This became even more pronounced after his rebirth.
But during his time at the Marshal's mansion, Xia You not only stopped guarding with his psychic energy but also would toss and turn so much on the plush bed that he'd often wake up on the carpet, next to the warm, fluffy black panther.
Xia You wanted to touch the panther, but his hands were connected to multiple medical devices, making it impossible to lift them.
With a "creak", accompanied by the sound of a door opening and a wheelchair approaching, the very Marshal who just caught someone eavesdropping in the hallway appeared before Xia You.
Xia You shrank back, his gaze flitting evasively.
A hint of amusement flashed in Lu Yinghuai's eyes.
The panther stood up, padded around on the bed briefly, then settled next to Xia You's head. Its soft paw pad brushed against the youth's forehead, soothing his tense nerves.
"Your Highness, um... good afternoon?" Xia You murmured.
Lu Yinghuai maneuvered his wheelchair using his psychic energy to Xia You's bedside, methodically and calmly detaching the device ports from Xia You's fingers.
"Good evening, Xiao You."
Xia You: "?"
Wait, he slept till evening?
Glancing at the heavy curtains, Xia You asked, "Your Highness, what happened to me?"
"Your psychic activity exceeded the normal range, causing physical discomfort, which led to a persistent fever."
Xia You nuzzled the black panther resting against his cheek, looking at Lu Yinghuai with a curious gaze.
After contemplating, Lu Yinghuai translated Meng Wenxuan's conclusions into simpler terms: "Blue Star is deemed suitable for patients with psychic disorders because the medical department discovered a unique magnetic field here."
"This magnetic field is similar to planets with energy stone veins, but Blue Star's is especially vibrant and active. Hence, Blue Star has the highest yield of energy stones."
"Report?" Mimicking the gestures he saw when Wei Cheng trained the guards, Xia You raised his hand with an obedient expression to ask a question.
A slight smile tugged at the corner of Lu Yinghuai's eyes, and he responded using his old training terminology, "You may ask."
However, compared to the sternness during his earlier training days, his tone now was exceptionally gentle.
"So, does this magnetic field have a special effect on all humans with psychic abilities?"
Xia You recalled how his psychic energy had indeed become unusually active during the apocalypse.
Come to think of it, it seemed that only after he was reborn on Blue Star following his death in his first life, did he discover that his once C-level psychic ability had become unprecedentedly active.
"Not exactly," Lu Yinghuai responded, contrary to expectations. "According to current research, only humans with a psychic ability higher than an S-level resonate with this magnetic field."
Pausing, Lu Yinghuai gazed deeply into Xia You's eyes, "However, healing psychic abilities are the exception."
