Chapter Eighty-Four.
byChapter Eighty-Four.
The Liang family's preparations were incomplete, hindering Shen Wang from starting treatment for Liang Ruyue.
After a brief examination of Liang Ruyue, Shen Wang wore a contemplative expression.
Mr. Liang, anxiously hanging on, asked, “Master, what’s wrong? Has Ruyue’s condition worsened?”
“I’ve already said she’s not ill; it's just her constitution,” Shen Wang spoke subconsciously. After finishing, he continued to observe Liang Ruyue with an inscrutable look, “She has two treatment options. Which one would you like to choose?”
The Liang family didn’t answer immediately but cautiously inquired, “Could you please tell us the difference between the two treatment options?”
Such a decision regarding the future definitely required careful consideration.
Shen Wang smiled, “The first option is to completely remove her Yin Moon constitution, allowing her to live as a normal person. This method is once and for all, without much danger, but her physical condition will be greatly reduced thereafter.”
Hearing this, Mr. Liang’s brows furrowed deeply, “Master, what is the second treatment option?”
Shen Wang's gaze rested on the quiet Liang Ruyue: “The second option is for her to absorb and neutralize the Yin Moon constitution herself. This method is more complex, but it won't affect her health. On the contrary, it will grant her the ability to cultivate.”
The ability to cultivate! The pupils of the Liang family members contracted, exchanging glances, no one speaking.
Having interacted with Shen Wang several times and witnessed ghosts and spirits, the Liang family's curiosity about the mystical world was undeniable.
But curiosity aside, stepping into the world of mysticism required immense courage.
Before Mr. Liang could speak, the usually reserved Liang Ruyue suddenly looked up, her eyes intense as she gazed at Shen Wang: “Master, I want to choose the second option. I want to cultivate!”
Mr. Liang, startled, blurted out, “No!”
Mrs. Liang also spoke with concern, “Ruyue, don’t be impulsive. Although the Liang family has some wealth, we can’t influence matters of the mystic world. If you enter that realm, your parents can’t protect you, and you’ll be alone…”
The thought of letting their frail daughter venture alone into another world was too much for any parent to bear.
Liang Ruyue, gentle in demeanor yet firm in her gaze, said, “Dad, Mom, this is an opportunity others might beg for. I don’t want to give it up.”
Even the usually unreliable Liang Ruri sided with his parents this time, “Ruyue, you’ve seen Brother Shen dealing with ghosts. Cultivation isn’t that simple; it’s dangerous… Aren’t you the one who can’t even watch horror movies?”
Shen Wang watched as the Liang family members took turns trying to persuade Liang Ruyue. He didn’t interfere in their family matters and found his way to the guest room, lying down on the bed.
Gu Dongting had replied to his message: [Why are you in the imperial capital?]
“Learned to text, have you?” Shen Wang’s lips curved into a smile. Previously, Gu Dongting would call him back after seeing a message, rarely replying by text.
After pondering for a few seconds, Shen Wang replied: [I have a big client in the imperial capital.]
After telling Gu Dongting everything except the details about Liang Ruyue's special constitution, Shen Wang finally asked: [I still need a few herbs. Do you know where in the imperial capital to buy good quality spiritual medicines?]
The reply came instantly: [The Ghost Market in the western suburbs.]
Ghost Market? Shen Wang’s eyes lit up: [Sounds impressive.]
The 'typing' indicator flickered in Gu Dongting’s chat box, and after a few minutes, a message popped up: [I can take you there.]
That would be perfect.
Shen Wang seized the moment to arrange the meeting for the next day. Gu Dongting hesitated for a while but eventually replied with a 'yes'.
Perhaps because of the plan to go out with Gu Dongting the next day, Shen Wang, who usually fell asleep as soon as he hit the bed, found himself struggling with insomnia that night. Unable to sleep, he got up to meditate.
After a night of cultivation, he was still bright and energetic the next day.
Just when he was about to leave, Shen Wang discovered a disheartening fact: “My car’s license plate is restricted today?!”
Unaware of the epic dispute that had unfolded inside the Liang household, Shen Wang woke up to find no one from the Liang family around.
It was only when he was about to drive out that the gate security reminded him his newly acquired car was, unfortunately, subject to license plate restrictions today.
Shen Wang, feeling dejected, returned the car to the garage, unsure of what to do next.
Just yesterday, he had promised to take Gu Dongting for a drive, and today he faced license plate restrictions... Shen Wang thought from Gu Dongting’s perspective and realized it looked like he was playing tricks.
A plan agreed upon couldn’t just be abandoned.
Biting the bullet, Shen Wang decided that any vehicle would do for a drive, as long as it could carry a passenger!
Gu Dongting was in a great mood today. This was something his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gu, discovered after observing him secretly for a while.
Although Gu Dongting seemed no different from usual – meditating, practicing swordsmanship, and expressionless – his parents, as his biological guardians, could discern the subtle relaxation in his brows and eyes, and the slightly uplifted corners of his mouth.
Even his usually sharp swordsmanship had softened, becoming more gentle and fluid, like a spring breeze bringing rain.
Though Mr. and Mrs. Gu weren’t cultivators, they came from a mystic family and had keen perception.
After sharing this revelation with his wife, the couple whispered and discussed for a while. Finally, they exchanged a look and confirmed: “Our ice-cold son might really be showing signs of blooming.”
The couple kept watching secretly until Gu Dongting greeted them and left, then they sneakily followed him.
Waiting at the door, Mr. and Mrs. Gu almost thought they were mistaken when Gu Dongting finally made a move.
They saw him approach someone riding a... shared bicycle?
A shared bicycle???
Mr. and Mrs. Gu were baffled.
Gu Dongting, also unusually perplexed, asked, “The car you mentioned yesterday... is this it?”
Shen Wang chuckled, trying to salvage the situation: “Don’t you think there’s a romantic charm to riding a bicycle with someone?”
Gu Dongting: “…”
He had never ridden a bicycle, but even he knew that shared bikes weren’t quite what was expected.
Shen Wang scratched his head: “I looked for quite a while to find this shared bike with a back seat that can carry a passenger.”
Unfamiliar with the imperial capital, Shen Wang thought of buying a bicycle on the spot but couldn’t find a place. In the end, he had to search near a subway station to find this makeshift solution.
The unsightly yellow bike, with its crude frame, made one wonder if it could actually carry two people.
Imagining Gu Dongting sitting on the back seat of this small yellow bike indeed felt incongruous. Shen Wang propped one leg on the ground, holding the handlebar with one hand, and tentatively proposed: “If not, maybe you can drive?”
After all, the Gu family was one of the wealthiest in the country; surely there were a few cars in their garage.
Gu Dongting let out an almost imperceptible sigh. Without a word, he sat on the back seat, resting his slender fingers on Shen Wang’s waist: “Let’s just go.”
Even from a distance, he could feel his parents' intense gaze. Going back for a car would only lead to more questioning.
The pale, slender fingers lightly resting on his waist caused a tingling sensation in Shen Wang, tickling him from his waist to the very core of his heart.
It felt like a feather, causing tingles all over his body, an itch deep in his bones that he couldn’t scratch.
“Shen Wang?”
Shen Wang shuddered, then pedaled vigorously: “Off we go!”
The bicycle jerked forward suddenly. Unprepared, Gu Dongting bumped lightly into Shen Wang’s back. Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around Shen Wang’s waist to steady himself. After finding his balance, his eyes flickered slightly, but he didn’t retract his hands.
Two tall, handsome men riding away on a bicycle, despite the comical appearance of the small yellow bike, the scene was as beautiful as something out of a movie.
Leaving behind stunned onlookers.
Mr. Gu: “Wife, am I seeing things?”
Mrs. Gu was also speechless in shock: “Is he still our son? Could someone have possessed him?”
Ever since he could remember, Gu Dongting had been training in cultivation under his father. Even as a child, he was mature beyond his years, never whining or causing trouble.
He even found his peers childish, preferring to practice swordsmanship alone rather than playing with other kids.
As he grew older, Gu Dongting developed more quirks – a lack of desire to interact or physically touch others, a cleanliness fetish, overly high morals, and sense of justice...
Gu Dongting had many admirers, but no friends.
Not because no one wanted to befriend him, but because Gu Dongting was prouder than anyone, rejecting everyone's attempts.
And now, this same Gu Dongting was sitting on the back of someone else’s yellow bike, being whisked away?
Mr. Gu, incredulous, turned away from where Gu Dongting had left, musing, “Wife, our son seems to have grown up. He has friends now…”
Before he could finish, he saw his strikingly beautiful wife busily typing on her phone.
Hesitating, Mr. Gu took out his phone, and his vision went dark upon seeing the message in the family group chat: “When did you take this photo? And how can you say Dongting is in love? He’s being carried by a man! A man!”
In the Gu family group chat, Mrs. Gu had posted the photo she had swiftly taken earlier.
In the photo, Gu Dongting sat on the back of the small yellow bike, hands obediently wrapped around the waist of the person in front, his eyes and brows lowered in an uncharacteristically gentle demeanor.
If not for his distinctive white clothes and long hair, and his uniquely handsome face, it would have been hard to believe that this was Gu Dongting!
The entire family group chat erupted into chaos.
Youngest Gu sibling: [??? Is this really my big brother? Impossible, right? Photoshopped?]
Grandfather Gu: [Dongting has friends now, very good.]
Uncle Gu: [Very good.]
Aunt Gu: [I don’t think they look just like friends…]
Mrs. Gu: [Right, sister-in-law, I also feel it doesn’t seem like a normal friendship.]
Youngest Gu sibling: [Impossible! Absolutely impossible! My wise and mighty big brother would never bring me a brother-in-law!]
Mr. Gu, looking at the lively family group chat, held his forehead helplessly: Thankfully, Dongting rarely uses his phone. Otherwise, discovering his own mother speculating about him dating a man would surely have him sulking.
Riding the bike cheerfully, Shen Wang was in high spirits: “Didn’t I say? Riding a bike with someone has its own unique charm.”
Gu Dongting, sitting on the back seat, felt the breeze on his face. As he leisurely looked ahead, seeing the pedestrians moving at a relaxed pace, a sense of calm enveloped him.
A slight smile played on his lips: “You’re always right.”
In real life, shared bicycles don’t have models for carrying passengers... but in the world of this novel, if I say they exist, then they do (confident).

After entering the interstellar era, beings from the cosmos lost their mother planet.
Some frantically searched for their mother planet, while others scoffed, considering modern Earth a decrepit junk planet, far inferior to any other.
Until suddenly, a live broadcast appeared on the star network, with a host claiming to survive in Earth’s wilderness, reviving civilization.
Viewer: “Let’s see who dares boast such nonsense, riding on the fame of our mother planet!”
Seeing the desolation everywhere, viewers were unsurprised and cursed vehemently.
Only when they followed the host’s camera to see the ancient, miles-long city walls, still standing after thousands of years;
Watching the host sentimentally recite facing the sunset, “A lone smoke in the vast desert rises straight, the long river at sunset appears round”;
Witnessing the once-barren planet gradually reviving, teeming with creatures only known from history textbooks.
Everyone was moved to tears.
No matter how beautiful and grand other planets were, none could compare to the splendor of their mother planet.
It was their history, their past, the never-ending homesickness in their blood.
Human (top) VS Earth (bottom), a mutual pampering relationship.
