Chapter 61
byChapter 61
Ji Mian quickly glanced around the classroom, trying to locate Song Yu, and confirmed with the system, "He should be the target of my mission this time, right?"
The system replied, "Yes."
However, after a few seconds, no one in the classroom responded.
The professor looked up from the front of the room and called out, "Song Yu?"
Still, no one answered.
"Absent on the first class?" The professor frowned deeply, "That’s pretty bold."
"Class 3, Song Yu..." He said, making a note on the attendance sheet.
It was obvious that he was going to deduct points from this person.
Ji Mian heard someone on his left whisper, "Zhikai, is Song Yu the one from our dorm..."
"I don’t know," replied the boy named Zhikai, his voice familiar and his tone very impatient.
Hearing this voice, Ji Mian turned his head and, as expected, it was the lanky guy from earlier.
"He didn’t report, maybe something happened, and now he’s losing points?" said a curly-haired guy sitting next to the lanky guy.
He Zhikai: "Why care so much? Maybe he dropped out to retake the entrance exams."
"What if he didn’t?" The curly-haired guy worriedly said, "Won’t he lose points?"
Twenty points were not a small number, especially for freshmen who cared a lot about their GPA. With math being a high-credit course, losing twenty points would be a big deal.
"It’s not your points on the line, so what does it matter?"
The curly-haired guy bit his lip, wanting to say something, but after opening his mouth a few times, he still couldn’t get the words out.
He really wanted to tell the teacher, but his severe social anxiety stopped him! And he wasn’t clear about Song Yu’s situation either...
"Classmate, what’s the situation?" Ji Mian leaned in, speaking to the curly-haired guy across Jia Wenbo.
"!!" The curly-haired guy was startled by Ji Mian suddenly leaning in.
Ji Mian’s back of the head faced Xie Hang, who glanced at him a few more times.
The curly-haired guy hesitated, "Oh, uh, the teacher called my roommate’s name. But he didn’t report, and I don’t know the specifics."
It had only been a few days since the semester started, and class officers hadn’t been elected yet. Most students in the class hadn’t even seen each other’s faces.
"Oh..." Ji Mian responded thoughtfully.
At the front of the room, the professor continued with Class 4:
"Li Xinyi."
"Here."
"Lu Zhou."
"Here." Ji Mian answered, then added, "Professor, Song Yu hasn’t shown up yet—there might be a reason."
Beside him, Xie Hang’s expression turned complex.
…It was the first time he’d seen someone meddle in another class’s business.
The old professor paused during roll call and looked up, “Didn’t check in?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, I understand.” The stern old professor was surprisingly accommodating. “Once the class monitor is chosen, the Class 3 monitor will check on it. When Song Yu arrives, have him come to see me.”
With just a few words, the issue was smoothed over.
The curly-haired boy was momentarily stunned and couldn’t help but look at Ji Mian.
Ji Mian smiled at him amiably. His striking features, softened by a smile, were almost too handsome to look at. The curly-haired boy blushed, scratched his head, and suddenly felt too shy to meet his gaze.
During the break, Ji Mian dozed off at his desk.
He was full of energy outside, but once class started, he couldn’t stay awake.
When the bell rang, he woke up with a red mark on his face.
Since he’d been sleeping facing Xie Hang, he spotted the phone on the next desk as soon as he woke up.
The screen showed a video of what looked like a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, and Xie Hang was watching it intently.
Ji Mian blinked in surprise and asked, “Xie Hang, are you looking for a place to rent?”
Jia Wenbo, sitting nearby, turned his head in surprise at the question.
“Yes.” Seeing that class was about to start, Xie Hang locked the screen.
Seeing Ji Mian’s sleepy, confused expression, Xie Hang added, worried he might misunderstand, “It’s not about you guys—I just like living alone.”
Ji Mian nodded understandingly. “There are plenty of rentals near campus—you should shop around for a good deal.”
After saying this, he felt the advice was a bit redundant.
The place Xie Hang was looking at was at least a two-bedroom, two-bath, and the decor was nice—clearly, he wasn’t on a tight budget.
“Alright,” Xie Hang responded.
The first week of school was light on classes, with most courses starting in the second or third week.
Freshmen at A University had evening study sessions, and Class 4 chose one evening to hold a class meeting to elect class officers.
Ji Mian arrived after dinner to find a few people scattered around the small study room.
Xie Hang, who skipped dinner, had arrived earlier and was already seated by the window in the second-to-last row, headphones on, watching something.
Seeing his roommate, Ji Mian walked over and sat down beside him.
Two ridiculously good-looking guys sitting together, not in the big classroom but in a quiet corner of the study room.
One aloof, the other smiling—it was a sight to behold.
The girl behind them gasped softly at the sight.
“!!”
Adorable!!
Ji Mian didn’t have the habit of looking at others’ phones, but since he was sitting next to Xie Hang, he couldn’t help but see the screen out of the corner of his eye. It was a video about building a web project, with lines of code scrolling across the screen.
Do freshmen in the economics department take programming courses?
He didn’t ask further and quietly started a game, silently accepting his role as a slacker.
The classroom wasn’t full yet. After finishing a casual round of the game, Ji Mian felt a bit bored. Compared to gaming, he’d rather go play basketball.
He remembered Xie Hang’s plan to rent a place and asked, “By the way, how’s the apartment hunt going?”
Xie Hang thought for a moment, then took off his headphones and shared a few videos of good apartments he had found with Ji Mian.
Ji Mian flipped to one with a warm-toned interior and said, “This one’s nice. The facilities look new, and the decor is nice.”
“Yeah.”
Behind them, a girl who had been casually observing suddenly looked shocked.
What!? House hunting!? Are they already planning to live together?
After watching, Ji Mian patted Xie Hang’s shoulder and said, “Once you’ve picked one, I’ll go with you to check it out, so you don’t get ripped off.”
Oh, so they’re not living together after all.
The girl’s emotions went up and down, and she couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.
Xie Hang, being patted on the shoulder in a brotherly manner by Ji Mian, smirked slightly.
After a while, the classroom started to fill up.
Jia Wenbo also arrived, but since the small classroom had paired desks, he greeted Ji Mian and Xie Hang and found another empty seat to sit in.
The list of candidates for class committee positions had already been finalized earlier in the day.
Two senior students led Class 4’s first class meeting, writing the positions and candidates’ names on the blackboard.
Xie Hang quickly glanced at it and raised an eyebrow, surprised Ji Mian’s name wasn’t listed under “Class Monitor.”
“You’re not running for class monitor?” he asked.
The person being questioned was taken aback. “Why should I run for class monitor?”
“No reason, I just thought you’d be a good fit.”
“The class monitor has too much responsibility; I can’t manage it,” Ji Mian said offhandedly.
Xie Hang, however, gave him a deep look, wanting to say, “Don’t underestimate yourself; you’d actually be a great fit.”
It hadn’t even been two days since school started, and he was already getting involved in Class 3’s business.
“I’m not running for class monitor. I just want to be the psychological committee member. Remember to vote for me later,” Ji Mian boldly campaigned for himself.
Xie Hang smiled. “Sure.”
The role of psychological committee member fit him well.
If someone were to seek psychological counseling from Ji Mian, just his face alone, with its sparkling earring and smiling expression, would definitely make it hard for anyone to feel down.
