Chapter 22 Then It Was the First Time
byChapter 22: That Was the Very First Time
Chen Su’s eyes were a little unfocused, and he murmured softly, “No, it’s not...”
Zhao Jinzong’s kissing skills were excellent, so good that they made one weak. Before today, Chen Su had never imagined a single kiss could undo him like this, but thinking that the other person was Zhao Jinzong, Chen Su found it entirely reasonable.
Zhao Jinzong was always special.
Chen Su caressed Enigma’s cheek, his eyes were wet.
Zhao Jinzong wrapped his arm around Chen Su’s waist, his thumb rubbing the dimples on Chen Su’s lower back. “Did he ever kiss you?”
“...” Chen Su looked away.
Zhao Jinzong turned Chen Su’s face back and gave a kiss on Chen Su’s chin. “Answer me.”
“No.”
Zhao Jinzong smirked, a smile tugging at his lips. “Mm, so that was the very first time.”
Zhao Jinzong bent down and kissed Chen Su’s waist... Chen Su felt a tingling numbness, his senses drowning in overwhelming stimulation, couldn’t snap out of it for a long time. His hand instinctively gripped Enigma’s strong and uninjured arm.
When Zhao Jinzong turned back, Chen Su reached out and carefully straightened the silver tassel on Enigma’s shoulder. His action, compared to what Zhao Jinzong had done, was utterly trivial by comparison.
Zhao Jinzong’s eyes lingered on Chen Su’s half-open shirt, meaningfully: “People are all different.”
Husbands aren’t all the same.
Zhao Jinzong turned on the faucet. “Get cleaned up.”
………………
After coming out of the bathroom, Zhao Jinzong was fully dressed, wiped the water off his face, called his subordinate and told him to gather everyone for a meeting.
Tan Zhou and Meng Suizhi had packed up the agent, hadn’t had time to analyze it yet, saying it had to be taken back to the capital. With this agent, maybe the last remaining omega test subject would have a shot at surviving.
After the meeting broke up, Zhao Jinzong asked Tan Zhou to stay behind.
Zhao Jinzong said, “Chen Su is researching the alpha secondary differentiation agent.”
Tan Zhou’s eyes widened in shock. “What?!”
Ten years ago, the Four Bureaus had covered up the omega test subject incident, not just because of the eleven deaths, but also for another reason—the alpha secondary differentiation agent.
The existence of the omega test subjects was for developing the alpha secondary differentiation agent. But the batch of omega test subjects in Huaicheng were still undergoing resistance testing; they hadn’t been injected with the secondary differentiation agent yet.
Tan Zhou’s expression was grave. “Why is he researching this?”
“I’m not sure.”
“I’ll go talk to him.” Tan Zhou wouldn’t let his subordinates touch the differentiation agent, no matter the reason.
He absolutely could not set that precedent.
“Let me handle it.” Zhao Jinzong waved dismissively, dismissing Tan Zhou.
……
For dinner, Zhao Jinzong reserved a private room at a high-end restaurant and invited Chen Su to eat.
Flowers, a French dinner, candles, and music.
It was a meticulously planned date.
Chen Su had never had a meal this peacefully in a setting like this.
Sheng Beiqing had invited him like this before, but Chen Su had shown up with a cold expression and left. A forced marriage shouldn’t come with any expectations—that was Chen Su’s attitude toward Sheng Beiqing, and also toward his previous marriage.
Chen Su and Zhao Jinzong finished their meal. Zhao Jinzong told the driver to go first; the hotel wasn’t far from where they were, and the night view was nice. They planned to walk back to the hotel over the Huaicheng Bridge.
Huaicheng Bridge was the route Chen Su used to take to school every day; he had a lot of memories there.
The December wind blew against them, but Chen Su didn’t feel cold at all. He suddenly stopped, leaned back against a stone pillar, and looked up at the moonlight and at Zhao Jinzong.
Zhao Jinzong half-encircled him, one hand propped on the stone pillar. “What is it?”
Chen Su faced the river and pointed to a spot. “I used to study over there.”
Across the river, there was a school with its lights on. This was Huaicheng No.1 High School, the best public high school.
“I see it.” Zhao Jinzong looked down at Chen Su. “How were your grades?”
Chen Su’s eyes stung. Since the second year of middle school, no one had asked him that question anymore. Since the second year of middle school, Chen Su had had no family.
Chen Su never told anyone about his background, but today, for some reason, he wanted to tell Zhao Jinzong.
“My grades were pretty good before, but I almost didn’t go to high school.”
“Why?”
“No money,” Chen Su said. “When I was five, my father broke his leg while working. My mother divorced him. I stayed with my father. Because my father was in poor health, most of the family savings went to medical treatment. I always lived very frugally.”
Zhao Jinzong bent down, pressing his cheek against Chen Su’s neck. “What happened then?”
“In middle school, my father didn’t want to be a burden to me, so he committed suicide. I wanted to give up the high school entrance exam and go work. My teacher thought I was too young, so she and other teachers pooled some money to help me continue. I kept studying. After starting high school, I tutored middle school students during winter and summer breaks. Later, when I was in my second year of high school, my mother came back.”
“She regretted leaving?”
Chen Su shook his head. “She had remarried. Her alpha had died of cancer. She also had two alpha sons, very young, who needed care and money.”
“She told me that omegas studying was useless.”
Chen Su’s mother had come back not to take Chen Su with her, but to rely on their maternal bond and make him give up his studies to work.
“What did you think?”
“Omegas studying is equally useful,” Chen Su said. “But I still took a year off in my second year of high school. I needed money. College requires a lot of money, and buying study materials too.”
“Did she look for you afterward?”
“No, because in my third year of high school, I differentiated into an alpha.” Chen Su looked at the teaching building still illuminated in the distance, feeling the joy of crossing mountains and seeing the sea after a long journey.
“So, you research the secondary differentiation agent for your past self?”
“I detest all the injustice that omegas face.” Chen Su’s loathing went even further; he even hated his former self as an omega.
“You’re extreme,” Zhao Jinzong said, hitting the nail on the head.
“Yeah.”
Chen Su does not deny that he is actually even crazier than Meng Suizhi. It is just that with Zhao Jinzong around, there's a rope holding him back.
Chen Su said, "Zhao Jinzong, this is the real me."
Chen Su once said that Zhao Jinzong did not truly understand him. It was because Zhao Jinzong didn't know about his past, his hatred for omegas, or his secrets... Such pursuit was superficial, rooted in pheromones.
It was not complete and couldn't stand the test.
Too fleeting.
"Zhao Jinzong, if possible, I even wish there were no omegas in the world."
Zhao Jinzong ordered, "No."
"..."
"Chen Su, I will be disappointed."
Chen Su looked back, "I know."
