    Chapter 35 Not Kissing

Zhao Jinzong picked up the documents on the table and strode out, his long legs eating up the distance. Tan Zhou gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry."

Tan Zhou followed closely behind. When no one was around, he asked worriedly, "What's the emergency?"

"Chen Su has entered his rut."

"...Can't the rut wait for half an hour?"

    "He's in my office."

"..." It's not like he's in your bed, for god's sake!

Tan Zhou frowned but figured it was pretty much the same...

Zhao Jinzong got into the car. "Uncle Wen, drive faster."

Uncle Wen, who rarely saw Zhao Jinzong this worked up, quickly said, "You got it."

Uncle Wen made the half-hour drive in twenty minutes flat.

Zhao Jinzong got out of the car and quickly walked toward the General Bureau. As he walked, subordinates greeted him, but he just gave a quick nod and kept moving. Finally, he arrived at the office building of the General Bureau. The alpha at reception did a double take when he saw Zhao Jinzong.

The meeting of the Four Bureaus would take at least another half hour to end. Why was the Chief back?

The alpha at reception came over to inform him, "Chief, Chen Su from the Drug Supervision Bureau entered your office half an hour ago."

    "Mm."

Zhao Jinzong nodded and strode into the elevator, taking three steps in two strides.

The alpha watched Zhao Jinzong's back. Had the Chief come back... for Chen Su?

The elevator rose to the top floor. Zhao Jinzong stepped out and was about to push open the door when his assistant came up with papers. "Chief, this document needs your approval and signature."

"Mm." Zhao Jinzong took the documents. "Notify everyone that I won't be seeing visitors this afternoon. If there's an emergency, call or email me."

The assistant, though puzzled, said, "Okay."

Zhao Jinzong held the documents, entered the office, and casually closed the door behind him.

The alpha, driven crazy by the wait, grabbed Zhao Jinzong's belt. The silver tassels at his shoulder and the chain from shoulder to waist jerked under Chen Su's tug.

Zhao Jinzong looked down at the alpha, whose eyes were full of nothing but lust.

Zhao Jinzong didn't move. He leaned back against the door, legs slightly apart, head tilted. With one hand, he caught the hand Chen Su had on his belt. "What do you want to do?"

Zhao Jinzong asked, knowing full well.

    He was always like this.

Chen Su tightened his hold on the Enigma's belt, saying nothing. His fair skin flushed red from the blood rushing under his skin. The way his lips parted and his lashes fluttered was breathtaking.

Zhao Jinzong pressed, "Chen Su, if you don't tell me, I won't know what to do."

Zhao Jinzong wanted to hear Chen Su's answer.

Chen Su had to say what he wanted and how far he wanted to go.

Chen Su was breathing unevenly. "Give me some of your pheromones..."

Zhao Jinzong let out his pheromones. The incense pheromones were calming, but for a temporarily marked alpha, pheromone comfort alone was nowhere near enough. He desperately wanted more, and the first step was—undoing Zhao Jinzong's belt.

Chen Su's hand on the belt had already bypassed reason; it was pure instinct.

Zhao Jinzong teased, one eyebrow raised. "I've already given you pheromones."

He let go of Chen Su's hand—a clear indulgence—but kept his back against the door, not budging. With an alpha's strength, he could easily manhandle an omega, but an Enigma was a whole other story.

Chen Su lied, "It's too far away... I can't smell them..."

Zhao Jinzong put a big hand on the back of Chen Su's head and pulled him tight against his chest. "Can you smell them now?"

Chen Su's lips pressed against Zhao Jinzong's clothes. At this close range, the incense pheromones grew even stronger, like they'd burn away the fir pheromones completely.

Zhao Jinzong unhurriedly stroked Chen Su's chin. He said nothing, still looking welcoming.

It was a game of cat and mouse. Both waited for the other to crack.

Chen Su answered, "I can smell them—another alpha's pheromones."

Zhao Jinzong carried a faint trace of another alpha's pheromones—probably picked up from a passing interaction. Even after the Enigma released his own, Chen Su could still detect them, driven by the intense possessiveness awakened by the mark.

No one likes to smell someone else's pheromones on their partner, no matter how faint.

Zhao Jinzong wrapped an arm around Chen Su's waist and dropped his head in surrender. "I don't have any other alpha."

Chen Su stared at Zhao Jinzong's suit. "Take it off."

The tone was commanding—one only Chen Su would dare use with Zhao Jinzong.

Zhao Jinzong opened his arms. "Do it yourself."

Chen Su hooked the Enigma's belt, walked him to the sofa, turned, and made him sit.

Zhao Jinzong sat with his legs spread, tossing the papers onto the coffee table with a lazy, indulgent air.

Chen Su was captivated by him.

He leaned down and started unbuttoning Zhao Jinzong's shirt.

Zhao Jinzong turned to look out the floor-to-ceiling window.

Across the street from the General Bureau stood a commercial building housing several Sheng-family businesses. On the 37th floor, at the same height as the General Bureau, was a law firm—also owned by the Sheng family.

    Zhao Jinzong smiled, pleased.

Chen Su unbuttoned Zhao Jinzong's shirt one by one. When he noticed the Enigma was distracted, he frowned, grabbed his chin, and turned his face back. Zhao Jinzong chuckled, patted the alpha's right knee, and gestured for him to sit on his lap.

Zhao Jinzong coaxed, "I won't get distracted anymore. Come here."

Chen Su sat on Zhao Jinzong's lap and leaned in to kiss him—but not on the lips. Instead, he attacked his neck, biting and nibbling until a trail of hickeys showed up. Zhao Jinzong looked down, pinched the alpha's chin, and lifted it, his eyes sharp. "How am I supposed to explain this, huh?"

Chen Su had walked into Zhao Jinzong's office.

The alpha at reception had seen him. Everyone knew Zhao Jinzong was refusing visitors that afternoon—the assistant knew, too.

If Zhao Jinzong walked out with those hickeys on his neck, everyone would know exactly what the two of them had been up to.

Chen Su's breathing was slightly ragged. "No need to explain."

Zhao Jinzong frowned. "You want to keep things undefined with me?"

    Chen Su said nothing.

This meant he didn't want to put a label on it, just kiss without responsibility.

Zhao Jinzong let go, indulging Chen Su's initiative to kiss, but when the alpha tossed a gold box aside, Zhao Jinzong's gaze turned cold. "Chen Su, do you remember what I said?"

Zhao Jinzong had said that before Chen Su changed his marital status, he wouldn't go all the way.

Even during Chen Su's heat, when he desperately needed a partner's comfort, he still wouldn't do it.

Besides being unethical, Zhao Jinzong couldn't stand any cheating.

Sheng Beiqing was that grain of sand.

Enigma, displeased, gave off fewer pheromones, which Chen Su felt very clearly. He lowered his head, moving to kiss Zhao Jinzong's lips reverently, but Zhao Jinzong dodged him.

    "No kissing," Zhao Jinzong refused.

Chen Su's eyelashes trembled. Being rejected by Zhao Jinzong stung; for an alpha in heat, it was no different from being abandoned.

The painful emotions overwhelmed his usual deliberate detachment and rationality.

"Zhao Jinzong..." Chen Su's nose stung, as if he were about to cry.
