    Chapter 63: Knowing Transgression

    Zhao Jinzong did not answer.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Chen Su's left hand. No one could accept that their lover shared secrets with an ex but stayed tight-lipped with them.

The silence made Chen Su increasingly anxious, his gaze fixed on Zhao Jinzong's hands resting on the documents. Suddenly, his eyes widened in shock.

Zhao Jinzong's palm was cut, as if slashed by a wide ruler-like object, crisscrossed with bloody marks.

    "You're hurt?"

    "Yeah." Zhao Jinzong reacted.

"I'll put some medicine on it."

Chen Su fetched the first aid kit, took Zhao Jinzong's hand, and carefully applied the medication. The Enigma's fingertips had slight calluses, rough to the touch but warm, with long fingers and prominent veins.

While applying the medicine, Chen Su suddenly inhaled. "Zhao Jinzong."

    "Hmm?"

Zhao Jinzong looked up at him, and with his other hand, pulled him onto his lap to sit.

This gesture was no different from before.

Sheng Beiqing didn't dare to gamble, so he hadn't told Zhao Jinzong.

    "Does it hurt?"

    "No."

"..." Chen Su was silent for a long time, never daring to raise his head to meet the Enigma's eyes.

It took a long time for Chen Su to steel himself to ask tentatively:

"Zhao Jinzong, what do you hate the most?"

    "Lies."

Zhao Jinzong's tone was heavy. Chen Su was someone who often lied.

Chen Su posed a hypothetical, "What if one day you find out I deceived—"

"Then we break up, it's over." Zhao Jinzong said. "If you don't want to say something, you can stay silent, but you can't lie. Once trust collapses, it can't be rebuilt."

"Chen Su, don't lie to me. Don't cross that line."

There was a warning in Zhao Jinzong's tone.

He was warning Chen Su not to take this relationship lightly, not to deceive.

Chen Su said nothing, only nodding stiffly, slightly, almost imperceptibly. After a while, Chen Su asked, "Will you be sad?"

    "I'll ignore you."

"…………" Chen Su somehow breathed a sigh of relief. That wasn't actually too bad.

Zhao Jinzong stared into Chen Su's eyes. "Did you lie?"

    "No."

    "Say it again."

    "No."

Zhao Jinzong tightened his arm around Chen Su's waist, resting his chin on the curve of Chen Su's neck. His warm breath tickled the side of Chen Su's neck, and he pressed a kiss there. "Be good from now on."

    "Okay."

Chen Su's "okay" sounded especially meek.

Chen Su asked, "Can we sleep now?"

    "Yeah."

Zhao Jinzong picked Chen Su up with one arm and returned to the bedroom. He set him down, took his hand, and had him help unbutton. Chen Su was obedient, taking the initiative to kiss him. The Enigma didn't refuse, unbuttoning his shirt while looking down at Chen Su.

After a moment, he ruffled Chen Su's hair.

    "I'll go shower."

"Mm..." Chen Su nodded, lifting his gaze.

Zhao Jinzong's large hand rubbed Chen Su's head, pressing his face against his chest. When he let go, he gently stroked Chen Su's lips. "Sleep first."

Zhao Jinzong was in a good mood and went to shower.

He returned ten minutes later. Chen Su scooted over to the edge of the bed, like a kitten.

Zhao Jinzong turned and pulled Chen Su into his arms, tucking his chin into the back of Chen Su's neck, nuzzling lightly before drifting off to sleep.

The next morning, Chen Su took the initiative to have sex with the Enigma once.

This was his payment for asking Zhao Jinzong to come back early last night, and it was also a reward for waking up to see the Enigma.

At Chen Su's house, this was a first.

The Four Bureaus were back to work after the New Year break. After breakfast, Chen Su insisted on driving himself to the Drug Supervision Bureau. Zhao Jinzong said, his voice low, "Too tired. Let Uncle Wen drive you."

    "No need."

Chen Su was insistent, but after walking just two steps, his back was killing him. The past two days in Huaicheng had been intense, and Chen Su was still recovering. On top of that, this morning's exertion, the way he walked was embarrassing.

Before Chen Su could get in, the Enigma scooped him up with one arm and put him in the car. Zhao Jinzong was forceful, leaving no room for argument.

As the car neared the intersection by the Drug Supervision Bureau, Zhao Jinzong dropped Chen Su off as he asked. Chen Su hadn't walked far when Meng Suizhi pulled up beside him and gave him a lift to the parking lot near the experimental base.

As he got out, Meng Suizhi grinned. "You smell of Director Zhao's pheromones."

    "Yeah, we're together."

"Then why are you sneaking around?"

"I was married to Sheng Beiqing once, so better to keep it on the down low."

"True, but if you're set on it, people will talk. Trust him." Meng Suizhi patted Chen Su on the shoulder. "Don't let it get to you."

    "Yeah."

Chen Su and Meng Suizhi clocked in together. This morning, Tanzhou convened a meeting of the Drug Supervision Bureau members that lasted over two hours. After it was over, Chen Su and Meng Suizhi went back to the lab together.

As they changed into lab coats, Chen Su asked, "Deputy Meng, are you going out this afternoon?"

    "No, why?"

"Can I borrow your car this afternoon?"

    "Sure, where to?"

    "The hospital."

"Are you feeling unwell?" Meng Suizhi quickly caught on. "You're trying to hide this from Zhao Jinzong, aren't you?"

"Yeah, I don't want him to worry."

"Chen Su, the most important thing between partners is honesty. He should know about your health condition."

"Let me get it checked first."

"...Alright, do you need me to go with you?"

    "No need, thanks."

Chen Su had lunch, leaned his head on the desk for a while, and when the hospital's afternoon hours started, he drove Meng Suizhi's car to the hospital.

Halfway there, he noticed a car following him...

Chen Su sped up and shook off the tail.

He went to the hospital. As soon as he entered the ground-floor lobby, he saw a familiar figure that looked like Meng Suizhi, but with a teardrop mole at the corner of the eye—it was Han Yu.

    Han Yu also saw him.

Han Yu walked toward Chen Su. "Got a moment to talk?"

Meng Suizhi had said that Han Yu wasn't normal—he would disguise himself as his lover, obsessively stalk him, and force himself upon him! The car that had been tailing Chen Su on the road earlier was probably Han Yu's.

"Yeah." Chen Su followed Han Yu to the smoking room and had a cigarette.

Han Yu handed a box to Chen Su. "Could you give this to Meng Suizhi?"

    "What is it?"

    "A birthday gift."

"..." Chen Su asked, "Why don't you give it to him yourself?"

"He said he didn't want to see me anymore."

"He's just saying that out of anger. When you disappeared, he looked for you for a long time."

"Things are different now," Han Yu said. "Just give it to him for me."

Han Yu stubbed out his cigarette and left.

Chen Su took a photo and sent it to Meng Suizhi.

Chen Su: "I ran into Han Yu at the hospital. He asked me to give this to you."

    Meng Suizhi: "Throw it out."

    Things really seemed different now...

In the end, Chen Su didn't throw the gift away. He first went to the gland department for a check-up. While waiting for the results, every second felt like an eternity.

The results finally came out. Chen Su went into the consultation room, and the doctor, with a grave expression, made a hand gesture to show a number.

Chen Su's face went pale. "Thank you."

"Xiao Su... you should be hospitalized."

"No need. I won't trouble you anymore. Thanks for everything." Chen Su took the results and left.

The scorching hot weather suddenly turned overcast with dark clouds and a light drizzle.

Chen Su brought the gift back to the lab and placed it on Meng Suizhi's desk. "It's better if you handle it yourself."

If Meng Suizhi threw it away himself, he could still retrieve it, but if Chen Su threw it away, it would be gone for good.

Meng Suizhi casually tossed it into the trash can. "How are you feeling?"

"Taking my medication on time. I feel much better."
