Chapter 89: We Should Have Been Allies Long Ago

Chen Su waited in the basement for a full day before finally learning the truth of the Huai City experiments from ten years ago, and discovering the mastermind behind the entire affair—an unlikely figure: Jiang An.

When Chen Su saw Jiang An appear in the basement, his eyes widened, and the confusion in his mind was instantly resolved.

Omega test subjects kept appearing one after another, and Jiang An was no longer the sole test subject. So why had he been kidnapped?

It turned out that this had never been a kidnapping from the start—it was a staged setup to evade blame!

The true culprit behind the human experiments in Huai City ten years ago was, of course, not the young Jiang An, but the entire Jiang family. The Jiang family wielded great power in Huai City and could easily find omegas who had been abandoned or neglected by their families. To throw off suspicion, they even included their own son, Jiang An, in the experiments.

The Jiang family did all this for profit.

In this dog-eat-dog society, the upper class would rather their children be alphas. If a drug could trigger secondary differentiation from omega to alpha, it would bring in an enormous, unimaginable fortune.

Jiang An had known about the experiment all along.

He also wanted to become an alpha, so when he was experimented on, he didn't cry or feel any pain. But no one expected the experiment to be discovered so quickly. The Jiang family never imagined that a remote place like Huai City would draw the International Federation's attention. After the experimental base was raided, they didn't dare make any more moves.

As for Jiang An, they didn't care about him at all. When the Drug Supervision Bureau took him away, they only felt relieved.

The Jiang parents never dreamed that despite the base being destroyed, their own son had secretly moved some of the drugs… They had stopped, but Jiang An continued.

Jiang An was tortured every day, but Jiang Minglang got off scot-free, swaggering around doing evil without any consequences. It was too unfair. So before leaving the capital, Jiang An kidnapped Jiang Minglang and pinned the blame on Chen Su.

After the New Year, Chen Su and Jiang Minglang had a dispute in the underground garage.

    Unexpectedly, the matter was suppressed.

Zhao Jinzong stepped in and vouched for Chen Su.

If not for that, Jiang An would have taken Chen Su away a long time ago.

Upon learning the whole truth, Chen Su laughed so hard his whole body shook. So the Drug Supervision Bureau had been working for years, only to find out they were saving the wicked.

Jiang An watched other test subjects die before him, acting scared, weak, and remorseful—downright disgusting.

Jiang An patted Chen Su's shoulder and leaned in close, "We should have been allies long ago, Chen Su."

Ten years ago, Jiang An intentionally tipped Chen Su off that his parents were about to inject him with the alpha differentiation drug.

Chen Su risked his life swapping that vial for a stabilizer.

As for where that differentiation agent ended up, Chen Su knew more than Jiang An did.

When Chen Su went back to school, he had turned from an omega into an alpha.

Chen Su was the only successful case of the differentiation agent.

Chen Su's eyes grew dark. "Of course."

Jiang An carefully brushed the dust off Chen Su's clothes and handed him a thick coat. "It's especially cold in Antarctica. Bundle up, Engineer Chen."

Chen Su put on the coat.

    "Alright, what are your conditions?"

Chen Su had conditions for coming all the way to Antarctica to help Jiang An.

Chen Su's eyes were cold. "When I was a child, my mother abandoned me because I was an omega. After my father died, she came back. She remarried and had another child. When her husband got into trouble, she wanted me to drop out of school and work to support the family."

"So I've been researching the alpha secondary differentiation agent all these years, trying to make it as stable as possible. Omegas are the vulnerable ones. I want to change this situation and give omegas the chance to choose for themselves." Chen Su locked eyes with Jiang An, his stare cold and deep. "You and I have been on the same path from the very beginning."

"Is that so?" Jiang An laughed. "Then why'd you stay at the Drug Supervision Bureau all those years?"

"I found an omega test subject and raised him. I want to keep him alive."

"Engineer Chen, your compassion is truly boundless."

Jiang An burst out laughing. "But none of that matters now. As the only successful case, I'm willing to work with you."

Jiang An led Chen Su out of the basement.

He showed Chen Su the experimental base. At the end of the experiment room corridor was a bedroom prepared for Chen Su.

Beyond that, Jiang An did not allow Chen Su to go anywhere else in the base. Despite speaking of collaboration, he clearly didn't fully trust Chen Su's shift in allegiance and remained very vigilant, even asking Han Yu to keep an eye on him.

Chen Su didn't mind. He would never leave the experiment room or the bedroom.

The first night at the Antarctic base, Chen Su heard screaming—it was Jiang Minglang.

Jiang An took out all the pain he'd suffered over the years on Jiang Minglang. Jiang Minglang stared in shock and fear at the weak, cowardly omega brother he remembered, now transformed into this sinister, terrifying figure.

Chen Su left the bedroom. In the hallway, Han Yu was smoking. Chen Su dipped his head. "Got another cigarette?"

"Yeah." Han Yu handed two to Chen Su.

Chen Su and Han Yu stood by the window, smoking. The window had anti-theft bars, sealed tight. The pitch-black night offered no view.

Chen Su flicked his ash. "Meng Suizhi has been taken into custody."

    "Oh."

"When they grilled him, he said you were his lover."

"Heh…" Han Yu let out a short laugh.

"He was arrogant. He always thought you couldn't live without him, that you'd come back after a fight." Chen Su said, "He deeply regrets it."

"He won't regret it now. Would he? No. Meng Suizhi knew Han Yu was crazy—he'd gotten into fights at school, ruthless and fierce. Meng Suizhi never even asked why he fought—just warned him that if he hurt anyone else, he shouldn't bother coming back."

"I don't know. Maybe he will." Chen Su looked back down the brightly lit, empty corridor and spotted the surveillance cameras immediately.

Chen Su's communication devices were taken. All he had was a monitoring watch—no GPS, no call function, just a tracker for his health and sleep.

Chen Su stared at the watch, lost in thought. Gotta hurry. Faster.

Han Yu stubbed out his cigarette. "Experiments start tomorrow morning. Get some rest."

"Yeah." Chen Su stubbed out his cigarette, tossed it aside, and returned to the bedroom.

Han Yu walked him to the door and warned, "Better not try anything."

Chen Su gave a faint smile. "What about you? Why'd you join?"

"So he can see through the Four Bureaus."

Han Yu left after saying that. Chen Su called after him, "Han Yu, do you have sedatives and suppressants? My heat's starting."

"I'll get them to you tomorrow."
