Chapter 102 Chasing My Husband
by 红牛地瓜Chapter 102: Chasing After My Husband
Chen Su frowned, "I figured, since I'm such a liar, General Director Zhao wouldn't want to see me anymore."
"He really should be angry with you."
"Yeah, that's fair."
"Since you're back, write a detailed report about everything that happened on the yacht a year ago, including your trip to Antarctica and the serum you developed, and send it to the General Administration's office."
"Okay." Chen Su returned to his office.
He meticulously weighed his words, spending the whole morning writing. After lunch, he took it to the General Bureau. Chen Su was too eager to see Zhao Jinzong, too impatient. He'd been away from the Drug Supervision Bureau so long that he forgot: before two o'clock was still lunch break, and non-General Bureau personnel couldn't enter.
It was now twelve-thirty.
He'd have to wait an hour and a half.
Chen Su sent Zhao Jinzong a message: "Are you at the General Bureau?"
Zhao Jinzong replied quickly: "Outside work hours, don't go over my head."
Chen Su's chest tightened. His hands trembling slightly, he slowly typed back: "Okay."
Chen Su waited downstairs for an hour and a half until the registration office staff started work. He explained his reason for coming and filled out the registration form—this was his first time doing so.
After finishing, he handed it to the staff member, who checked the schedule. "General Director Zhao has a meeting in ten minutes, so you'd better be quick."
"Okay, thank you."
Chen Su lifted his gaze and read the nameplate on the staff member's chest.
"Registration Office, Xue Yi, S3‑level omega."
Chen Su's pupils shook. "You're an omega?"
The Fourth Bureau used to not hire omegas.
"Yeah."
Chen Su's steps felt stiff as he walked to the elevator.
He entered the elevator and arrived at Zhao Jinzong's office door. He knocked, and a low, hoarse voice from inside said, "Come in."
Chen Su pushed the door open. The Enigma sat in his work chair, his handsome face pale and colorless. He coughed twice, picked up the glass on his desk, and took a drink of water.
Chen Su placed the report in front of Zhao Jinzong. "The full account of what happened a year ago."
Zhao Jinzong didn't look at it. "Mm."
Chen Su stared at the report on the desk. "Aren't you going to read it, General Director?"
Zhao Jinzong didn't even lift his eyelids and dismissed him: "Go back."
"..." Chen Su didn't move. "In high school, I injected myself with an alpha differentiation agent, which I got from the Jiang family. It had no effect. After the injection, I coughed up blood every day..."
Zhao Jinzong coldly interrupted: "I'm busy. I'll read the report."
Chen Su wasn't deterred. "I felt really uncomfortable at the time. I broke into the school during summer break, used the lab, and developed a serum—one that mimicked alpha gland fluid. I used it to become a fake alpha, but my body never fully recovered."
"Chen Su!"
Zhao Jinzong interrupted again. Chen Su's eyes grew moist. He knew Zhao Jinzong didn't want to listen, perhaps didn't even want to see him, but Chen Su had to explain, had to tell him face to face.
"I won't hold you up for your meeting later."
Chen Su continued, "The year I took the Drug Supervision Bureau selection exam, my gland ached, and I fainted. Dr. Liu saved me. He knew I was a fake alpha—the only one who knew. I had tutored his son before, so I asked him to keep it secret."
"After that, whenever my gland hurt, I went to see him."
"Before I went to Antarctica, I fainted many times, and the coughing up of blood got worse. I went to the hospital, and he told me I only had two months left. So I couldn't rest—I couldn't afford to."
"I shouldn't have lied to you, shouldn't have hidden it from you, and couldn't let you mark me."
"I knew you didn't like omegas, and I knew I wouldn't live long. An Enigma's mark is so terrifying. If one day I was gone, or you found out my true identity, I didn't know if you'd be disgusted or how you'd get through it."
Chen Su's vision blurred. He couldn't see anything clearly.
He fought back the bitterness. "Zhao Jinzong, I'm an alpha now..."
Zhao Jinzong's brows furrowed tightly, his face cold and dark. "Are you done?"
"One last thing. Just a little more of your time." Chen Su's breath came unsteadily, his hands trembling slightly. "I listened to you. I didn't continue researching the alpha differentiation agent. I only injected those test subjects with a small amount of a gland-fluid-like substance—a serum that could induce alpha pheromone characteristics."
With that, Chen Su stepped back. "I'm done now. I'll go."
He turned and walked to the door, grabbing the handle. He looked back at the Enigma, who had never once looked up at him. "Zhao Jinzong, I'm sorry."
Chen Su closed the door and left.
The moment the door shut, tears could no longer be held back; they spilled from his eyes.
In this world, Chen Su had done right by everyone—except Zhao Jinzong.
In Xiao Li's eyes, he was the best brother in the world. In the Drug Administration Bureau's eyes, he was the savior of the omegas who had been experimented on. But in Zhao Jinzong's eyes, he was an incompetent, irritable partner who didn't know how to love, couldn't give care or affection, and was full of lies.
Zhao Jinzong knew a lot. Every question he had asked in the past came with an answer already in mind.
Zhao Jinzong was waiting for Chen Su to confess.
But Chen Su wouldn't say a word. He knew Zhao Jinzong hated lies, yet he still knowingly broke that rule anyway.
Chen Su took a moment to compose himself, waiting until he no longer looked so disheveled and the redness around his eyes had faded before leaving the General Bureau.
He returned to the Drug Administration Bureau and worked until the end of the day.
After work, Chen Su bought a lot of medicine at a nearby pharmacy—cold medicine, fever reducers... He carried a bag full of medicine and went to the Zhao residence.
On the way, a downpour started.
