Chapter 93 I Can’t Survive
by 红牛地瓜Chapter 93: I'm Not Going to Survive
“…” Wei Cheng said nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Why didn’t Wei Cheng speak up?
Wei Cheng knew perfectly well that today’s negotiation was a one-way ticket to death—why didn’t he tell him?
There was only one answer.
Wei Cheng wanted to establish Jiang An as a victim in front of the International Federation.
Wei Cheng took everything upon himself, just to keep Jiang An innocent and safe, letting him leave Antarctica without a trace.
Since the General Bureau had already traced the matter to Antarctica, finding the island was inevitable. They had to leave. Today’s plan was to use Jiang An as a hostage to open negotiations and remove Zhao Jinzong’s gland.
Jiang An, with ulterior motives, suggested splitting into two groups—his subordinates would take the gland and leave first, while Wei Cheng would escort him as a hostage.
Jiang An claimed that taking him as a hostage would be safer; he wanted Wei Cheng to be safe.
How could Wei Cheng not see through it? Jiang An wanted him dead.
During the hostage situation, Wei Cheng would be killed, Jiang An would be rescued, and no one would suspect him. That way, he could leave Antarctica without suspicion and even take over Wei Cheng’s men.
Wei Cheng knew everything. He knew he would die, yet he still came—to take the blame.
Until the moment of his death, Wei Cheng had no idea that the scandal between him and Jiang An had already been uncovered by Zhao Jinzong. Ironically, in his final moments, he instinctively looked toward Jiang An, and to avoid exposing him, used his last bit of strength to close his eyes.
Jiang An had meticulously plotted the death of the person who loved him most in this world.
Love… Jiang An didn’t know what love was. He had never received it; he didn’t understand it. He only knew that between him and Wei Cheng, it was mutual need—not love.
But the moment Wei Cheng fell, Jiang An’s heart ached. When he learned that the alpha secondary differentiation agent had been successfully developed, the first person he thought of was Wei Cheng, sharing the news with him immediately. Even so, Jiang An would never admit that he liked Wei Cheng.
Wei Cheng was ugly, brutal.
On Antarctica, the bitter wind howled, rustling through the air.
Zhao Jinzong aimed his gun at Jiang An. Director General Zhao’s marksmanship was precise; with a pull of the trigger, he could take Jiang An’s life.
“Jiang An, where is Chen Su?” Zhao Jinzong asked again. “Where are the other victims?”
“… Hahaha. Him? You will never find him! If he leaves alive, once the alpha differentiation agent is stable, someone will kill him. If he betrays me, he’ll be left behind—oh, by the way… I prepared a surprise for him.”
“As for… the victims…”
“They’ve all been injected with the serum your lover developed. The pain is worse than death. Oh, high and mighty Director General Zhao, will you still save him now?”
Jiang An looked at Wei Cheng on the ground. Blood pooled everywhere, covering the scarred, hideous face that was now calm and lifeless.
Jiang An laughed like a madman. “Boom!”
He mimicked an explosion.
The surprise Jiang An spoke of was a bomb.
A bomb that could tear a person apart, blow their body to pieces.
Zhao Jinzong’s voice was cold: “I swear in the name of the Federal International General Bureau: if you tell me the location of the victims, I will spare your life.”
“Spare my life, and then have me spend the rest of it in prison?” Jiang An laughed. “I’ve had enough of that dark, hopeless life!”
Jiang An grabbed a subordinate’s gun. “Bang!”
Blood splattered everywhere.
The dark sky, oppressed by heavy clouds, seemed to be soaked in blood—a spreading crimson haze.
As he fell, Jiang An glanced at Wei Cheng. Pain… so this is what it felt like.
…
On the yacht.
After lunch, some of the alphas had gone for a nap. They slept unusually deeply. The agent Chen Su had given Han Yu that day was a high-concentration sedative that induces deep sleep. When Han Yu entered the kitchen, he poured it all into the water used to cook lunch.
When Han Yu leaned close to Chen Su’s ear and said, “Because I was testing your sincerity,” he also spoke a second sentence: I want him to get a good night’s sleep.
Of course, Han Yu resented that Meng Suizhi never cared about him, that his attention and concern were far more focused on Chen Su and the experimental subjects in the special zone.
But he was the one Meng Suizhi had picked up. Without Meng Suizhi, he wouldn’t even be alive today. No matter how much Meng Suizhi ignored him, he would never leave.
Han Yu was angry that Meng Suizhi was too absorbed in his work, angry that this experiment had ever come about. He wasn’t some great philanthropist; he couldn’t care less about the omega test subjects. But he knew that if there were more and more omega test subjects, Meng Suizhi would never be able to rest, never get a good night’s sleep.
Han Yu had joined Jiang An with the determination to die—to go down together.
Meng Suizhi didn’t love him, despised him, neglected him—Han Yu saw it all.
This was the last thing he could do for Meng Suizhi.
After lunch, the sleepy alphas went to nap, leaving a few on guard. Han Yu got back Chen Su’s confiscated phone. The phone had no password. He turned it on and restored communications.
He sent the location to Zhao Jinzong and Tanzhou.
Then, he entered the alphas’ rest area. With a cold blade, blood sprayed, searing his skin. Han Yu took a gun from one of the alphas, took out the guards, and went down to the cabin below deck where Chen Su was held.
Then Han Yu’s phone buzzed in his pocket.
Zhao Jinzong: “There are bombs on the ship. There are lifeboats on the yacht. Leave as soon as possible. I’ve notified the rescue boats in the nearby waters.”
Zhao Jinzong: “Wait for me.”
Han Yu kicked the door open to Chen Su’s cell.
He handed the phone to Chen Su. “Go. There are bombs on the ship.”
Chen Su took the phone. “Do you have a knife?”
Han Yu handed him a dagger. “What do you need that for?”
Chen Su’s face was pale. In the dim, unlit lower deck, his features hidden in shadow, his weakness barely visible. “Nothing. Just take the omega test subjects and go first.”
“Alright. The lifeboats are limited, so move quickly,” Han Yu said urgently.
Chen Su watched Han Yu’s receding figure and smiled. He drew the dagger, pulled off his left glove, and sliced open the flesh marked with the tattoo.
Blood poured out. Chen Su put the glove back on and began searching for the test subjects.
Chen Su’s appearance terrified the test subjects—they saw him as the bad guy.
Chen Su hesitated, as if to say something, then turned and left, going to find Jiang Minglang. Though Jiang Minglang had done plenty of bad things, he didn't deserve to die—he had no blood on his hands and was the only one who knew the truth about this case, the Huai City incident. Chen Su searched room after room.
Chen Su's phone kept ringing.
Zhao Jinzong had sent him many messages.
"Chen Su, are you okay?"
"If you're in danger, get out immediately."
"Xiao Li is still waiting for you to come home."
"Chen Su, don't be impulsive. Wait for me."
Chen Su's eyes stung with tears. He couldn't remember how long he had been searching, but finally... he found Jiang Minglang, who was tortured beyond recognition—his face covered in stubble and a mess of twisted, bloody flesh, his hands and feet covered in deep slash wounds, barely alive.
Chen Su used his dagger to slice through the iron cuffs locking Jiang Minglang's wrists and ankles, then helped him to his feet and guided him out.
No one knew when the bomb hidden on the yacht would explode.
Everyone frantically scrambled to escape.
All the lifeboats and lifebuoys had been found and brought out.
Han Yu hadn't seen Chen Su for some time. He doubled back to find Chen Su, only to see Chen Su supporting Jiang Minglang.
Han Yu frowned. "Leave him, come with me."
Han Yu seized Chen Su's wrist. "Sss..."
Han Yu sensed something was wrong and looked at Chen Su's hand. Chen Su's glove was dripping blood.
"You're hurt?"
"It's nothing."
Chen Su said he was fine, but under the daylight, his pale, haggard face looked like he might pass out any second.
Chen Su pushed the unconscious Jiang Minglang toward Han Yu. "Take him away. Don't worry about me."
"Chen Su..." Han Yu didn't want to save Jiang Minglang at all. In his eyes, Jiang Minglang was no different from the culprit.
"Han Yu, he can still live. I can't."
