Chapter 86 You’re Very Well-Behaved
by 红牛地瓜Chapter 86 You Are Very Obedient
Chen Su denied it: "I didn't."
Zhao Jinzong said coldly, "Chen Su, don't lie."
"…………"
Chen Su had lied, but when Zhao Jinzong called him out, his heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively denied it. He was too afraid of being caught in a lie.
Lying would make Zhao Jinzong unhappy.
Chen Su told the truth, "I taught when I took a leave of absence. I took a year off in my sophomore year of high school. My dad was sick and in severe pain. I needed money, so I skipped classes first, then withdrew from school."
A mist of tears blurred Chen Su's eyes, but it quickly dissipated. He turned and walked away. As he got up and took two steps, a large hand firmly wrapped around his waist, and warm, long breaths fell on the side of his neck.
This was a height that only existed when Enigma bent to hold him.
"Chen Su, I have to go through the routine procedure."
"Next time, you can just dominate me with pheromones, and I'll tell you everything." Chen Su's tone was cold, and his body was stiff.
Zhao Jinzong's tone grew heavier, "I won't."
Chen Su hated when Zhao Jinzong used pheromones to dominate and control him. He wouldn't let Zhao Jinzong see the back of his hand, let alone mark him. That was part of their three-point agreement.
Chen Su didn't respond, struggling to get away. Enigma was very strong, and Chen Su couldn't break free from those powerful arms. He had no choice but to let Zhao Jinzong pick him up and set him on his lap.
Zhao Jinzong took some candies from the study drawer and handed them to Chen Su. "It's my fault."
Chen Su frowned, looked at the candies, then threw them all to the ground in one motion.
Zhao Jinzong's eyes flickered.
Chen Su got up from Zhao Jinzong's lap, without a word, and returned to the bedroom.
He didn't give Zhao Jinzong a chance for a private word.
The green candies lay crushed on the floor.
After returning to the bedroom, Chen Su stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, lit cigarettes from Zhao Jinzong's bedside stash, and smoked them one by one, his lips quivering.
Zhao Jinzong was late in returning to the room. Chen Su finished smoking, lay down, curled up under the blanket facing away from the door. He took off his left glove and kept scratching, digging his nails into his skin until they drew blood, as if punishing himself.
Why was he punishing himself?
Chen Su didn't know either. He just felt awful, really awful. His heart ached, everything hurt.
At 10:30 PM, Zhao Jinzong stood by the door.
In the bedroom, only the bedside lamp was on, casting a dim, yellow light. Zhao Jinzong's shadow loomed as he stepped closer, finally stopping by Chen Su's bed.
Enigma smelled the smoke, carefully lifted the blanket, lay down, and turned off the light.
In the dark, they couldn't see each other.
"Chen Su, are you feeling sick?"
Zhao Jinzong, powerful and respected, felt he was being cold-shouldered and dumped, just like Sheng Beiqing. He let Chen Su vent without a single reproach, even caring about Chen Su's condition.
"No," Chen Su denied it, though he himself wasn't sure.
But it didn't matter. Not one bit.
"Jiang Minglang is missing. I'm asking as part of routine procedure."
"Oh, I'm not close to him."
"Mm."
Zhao Jinzong was quiet for a moment, then asked, "What about me?"
"...Not close either."
"Chen Su."
"Zhao Jinzong," Chen Su said, "I think someone like me is better off alone. I get tired of relationships after a while. I don't like being tied down. I've lived alone for many years. I'm too set in my ways. I won't change, and I don't want to adapt." He pillowed his arm under his cheek; his clothes were drenched.
"Chen Su, we don't need a relationship. If you're troubled or upset, just come to me."
Chen Su didn't know what Zhao Jinzong meant by "we don't need a relationship." Probably it meant they could be friends now.
"Okay."
"Give me some of your pheromones," Zhao Jinzong said.
Chen Su released his pheromones, thin and faint.
Zhao Jinzong smiled gently, "You're so good."
"………"
Chen Su didn't speak.
How could he be good when he was like this?
The typhoon hit land. Chen Su stayed at Zhao Jinzong's place for two days and two nights. He left the next afternoon. Before leaving, he casually took one of Zhao Jinzong's glass cups without asking—just took it.
When he got home, Chen Su put the glass cup away in his study. That night, someone shattered his treasured glass cup. He didn't know who—it definitely wasn't Chen Su. Chen Su wouldn't do that.
On the seventeenth day after his breakup with Zhao Jinzong, Chen Su went to the hospital—the psychiatry department.
He got a diagnosis. He was sick.
BPD—Borderline Personality Disorder—with extreme emotional swings.
The one who smashed the cup and threw the candies wasn't Chen Su.
Chen Su got some medication. But they made him drowsy, so he stopped.
At midnight, the Drug Supervision Bureau project team was urgently summoned. Zhao Jinzong came too.
In the meeting room, Tanzhou said grimly, "Two new experimental subjects have been found in a hospital in the capital, just like Xiao Li and Xiao An."
This meant that after the Huaicheng experiment, someone was still running experiments elsewhere.
This meant that for the past ten years, innocent omegas had been systematically persecuted.
Chen Su's face went pale. After the meeting, he immediately called Xiao Li and told him to come home tomorrow.
Meng Suizhi comforted Chen Su, staying with him until four in the morning before leaving. Chen Su went home, slept for a few hours, then messaged Xiao Li, telling him to call back after waking up.
Xiao Li woke up at six and called.
Xiao Li said Uncle Wen had come to get him.
He asked Chen Su if it was okay to get in the car.
Chen Su was silent for a few seconds, then agreed.
Xiao Li arrived home in the morning. Chen Su had been waiting at home all along, and only when he saw Xiao Li safely back could he finally relax.
Uncle Wen saw how exhausted Chen Su looked. "Mr. Chen, the General Administration will keep your case in mind. Don't worry too much. In the next couple of days, officials from the General Administration Bureau will come to protect Xiao Li."
"Thank you..."
The omega test subjects were sent to a special zone for protection. Xiao Li was an exception—he stayed at Chen Su's home.
The Drug Supervision Bureau got slammed. This time, even more personnel were mobilized than during the discovery of the first human experiment ten years ago.
Many lights at the experimental base stayed on all night.
As the ones who had gone through it first, Chen Su and Meng Suizhi were even more swamped than everyone else.
Chen Su's complexion grew increasingly haggard. He had been pushing himself the hardest and longest recently.
On the twenty-eighth day after breaking up with Zhao Jinzong, Chen Su made a rare trip home. It was Xiao Li's birthday, so he went back to celebrate with him.
Fortunately, Chen Su had prepared the birthday gift well in advance.
