Chapter 3
byChapter 3: Deciding to Return It
Holding the shimmering sword, Mu Chen admiringly caressed its gemstones.
Each gem on the Bi Shui Sword was of superior quality. If he could bring this to Earth, he would be rich.
"Young Master, what do you plan to do with this sword?" Qi Si asked curiously.
"What to do? Return it, of course!" Mu Chen replied matter-of-factly.
Qi Si frowned, "Return it?"
Mu Chen nodded, "Yes."
Mu Chen knew that the previous owner had spent his entire fortune on this sword. He didn't want to become penniless just after arriving here.
He still holds the receipt for the sword. If he returns it within fifteen days, he can get ninety percent of the original stones back. If the sword becomes a liability, it would be a disaster.
"Wasn't that sword meant for Young Master Zhuang Yu?" Qi Si asked in confusion.
Mu Chen nodded, replying, "Indeed, but didn’t he decline it?"
"Young Master, don’t be disheartened. If you genuinely offer the sword to Young Master Zhuang Yu, I believe he'll accept your intentions," Qi Si advised.
Silently, Mu Chen rolled his eyes, thinking: Why would he desperately want someone, who indirectly might harm him, to accept his gift? Is he just burning money? Besides, Zhuang Yu isn't his type.
Mu Chen dismissively said, "There are plenty of fish in the sea. Zhuang Yu might be good-looking, but that's all. I could have wooed several others with the time and effort spent on him."
Mu Chen thought to himself: According to his memories, before he met Zhuang Yu, he was a notorious playboy. Yet after their encounter, he became more reserved.
Qi Si observed Mu Chen, his expression peculiar.
"But, Young Master, didn’t you once say, 'Out of all the waters, I only take one scoop', implying you had chosen Young Master Zhuang Yu?" Qi Si inquired.
Mu Chen gazed coldly at Qi Si, making him uncomfortable. "Young Master, is something wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong. Don’t you think you're being too talkative? Why should I explain myself to a mere servant like you? What business is it of yours?" Mu Chen retorted coldly.
Qi Si, embarrassed, replied, "I apologize, Young Master. I overstepped."
A fleeting look of resentment passed through Qi Si's eyes. Mu Chen caught it. According to his memories, the original owner had been quite generous to Qi Si, providing ample resources. Yet this man was not only ungrateful but took him for a fool. Truly despicable.
Mu Chen coldly ordered, "Leave. I don't require your services here."
Qi Si’s face shifted colors as he withdrew.
Watching Qi Si’s retreating figure, Mu Chen felt a surge of hostility. He knew Qi Si harbored ill intentions and wished he could deal with him immediately.
But being new here, acting rashly might raise suspicions. Mu Chen decided to bide his time.
"Qi Si, summoned by the young master again, I see!" Zhao Er remarked with a trace of schadenfreude upon seeing Qi Si.
Qi Si clenched his teeth. While he was originally loyal to Mu Yuanhai, his overt allegiance was to Mu Chen. Now with Mu Chen's cold treatment, other servants were looking down on him.
"The Young Master is in a bad mood," Qi Si admitted.
Zhao Er smirked, "The Young Master has called back Ren San."
Qi Si’s face fluctuated. Ren San was an attendant left to Mu Chen by his mother. Previously dismissed by Mu Chen for his dullness, his recall meant Mu Chen had indeed changed.
"What on earth did you do, Qi Si?" Zhao Er questioned.
Embarrassed, Qi Si responded, "I did nothing!"
Recently, he'd been indulging in pleasures with Mu Chen, who seemed satisfied with him, except maybe for not winning over Zhuang Yu.
Qi Si pursed his lips, realizing that if he lost Mu Chen's trust, he'd become worthless to Mu Yuanhai.
