Chapter 21
byChapter 21: Fiancée
"Young Master, did you encounter Young Master Mu Chen today?" Chen Da asked eagerly.
Ye Shi furrowed his brows, replying, "Uncle Chen, haven't I told you? Don't call me Young Master, just call me Shi. Have you ever seen a young master who works as a laborer? Don't make us the butt of jokes."
Chen Da retorted impatiently, "Stop beating around the bush. Did you, or did you not, meet Young Master Mu Chen?"
Ye Shi nodded, "Yes, I did."
"What did Young Master Mu Chen say?" Chen Da asked anxiously.
Ye Shi smirked, "He offered me a tri-colored chicken."
"Did you accept it?" inquired Chen Da.
"No! Why should I take it without doing anything in return? Besides, he only wanted to give one chicken, such a cheap one at that. It's rather stingy. One could probably eat three of such small chickens in one go," Ye Shi said with a touch of annoyance.
Chen Da: "..."

"Father, you wanted to see me?" Mu Chen inquired.
Mu Yuanfeng nodded, "Yes, about the fiancée I mentioned to you before. She has arrived in Mo City."
A mix of emotions flashed across Mu Chen's face upon hearing this.
"She's here?" The thought of meeting a fiancée he had never met before made Mu Chen feel awkward.
Mu Yuanfeng affirmed, "Yes, and she's been here for quite a few days."
"If she's here, why hasn’t she visited the Mu residence?" Mu Chen asked, puzzled.
Mu Yuanfeng gave a wry smile, "Actually, she did come, but some ill-advised servant turned her away."
"Where is she now?" A frown appeared on Mu Chen's face. Regardless, it was their fault that their servant had turned her away.
Mu Yuanfeng shook his head, "She’s currently working as a bone picker at the Yue River Tavern, earning a single yuan stone a day."
"The Yue River Tavern." Mu Chen expressed his surprise.
Could it be him? Mu Chen thought, but immediately dismissed the idea. He had read that his fiancée was described as an ugly shuang'er. The first time he saw her, he was almost frightened out of his wits. But this man was incredibly handsome.
Mu Chen furrowed his brows, "Isn't she a shuang'er? Why would she work as a bone picker in a tavern? One yuan stone a day, has she become that desperate?"
Mu Chen had heard of his fiancée's lack of favor in the family. Still, he never imagined she would be working as a lowly bone-picker in a tavern.
As far as Mu Chen knew, in this world, it was uncommon for someone of Shuang'er's stature to show herself, let alone to be butchering pigs and sheep at a tavern. It was beyond belief.
"I'm not sure about that," responded Mu Yuanfeng.
"Regardless, perhaps you should take some time to meet her," suggested Mu Yuanfeng.
Mu Chen nodded, "Understood, father."
"I noticed you've bought a lot of beast blood. Are you planning to cultivate your body?" Mu Yuanfeng inquired.
Mu Chen nodded, replying, "Yes."
Mu Yuanfeng patted Mu Chen's shoulder reassuringly, "You've grown up."
Mu Yuanfeng felt a profound disappointment, seeing that his son disregarded the cultivation method he'd gone to great lengths to acquire. Yet, witnessing his son's agony during the practice, he could only turn a blind eye.
"Father, I've grown up. It's time I learn to stand on my own," Mu Chen said with a smile.
Mu Yuanfeng couldn't help but pat Mu Chen's shoulder, expressing his approval.
