Chapter 194
byChapter 194: Crafting a Level Six Pill.
Mu Chen had already acquired the primary ingredient for the Bingpo Antidote Pill during his past ventures in the forest. After purchasing a few auxiliary herbs from a drugstore, they rented a temporary residence outside the city to begin the pill preparation.
"Ye Shi, I will start refining the pill soon. Keep an eye out and don't let any outsiders in," Mu Chen instructed calmly.
Ye Shi nodded earnestly, "I understand."
It's perilous for an alchemist to be disturbed during the refining process; the pill could be destroyed, and the alchemist could perish. Mu Chen, being only a fifth-level alchemist crafting a sixth-level pill, needed to be extra cautious.
Mu Chen gave a reassuring smile to Ye Shi before entering the alchemy chamber.
Mu Chen didn't have to warn Ye Shi further. Ye Shi always prioritized Mu Chen's safety. Even though Ye Shi could be careless at times, when it concerned Mu Chen, he would always be thorough.
As soon as Mu Chen left, Ye Shi quickly set up several protective formations around the residence.
Over the past year, Ye Shi's comprehension of sixth-level formations deepened, becoming more adept at setting them up.
After placing three sixth-level formations around the residence and ensuring its protection against even imperial-level masters, Ye Shi finally relaxed.
When crafting a sixth-level pill, its successful formation might trigger astonishing phenomena.
Previously, when Mu Chen was crafting a sixth-level pill in the wild, it attracted two imperial-level beasts. Had they not escaped swiftly, they might have been devoured.
After setting up the formations, Ye Shi meticulously inspected them one more time before being at ease.
...
"Ah!" A scream echoed from Mo Feng's courtyard, as Mo Yun clutched his head in agony.
Seeing Mo Yun's distress, Mo Feng felt a deep pang in his heart.
"Yun'er, are you alright?" Mo Feng asked with deep concern, noting that Mo Yun's episodes were becoming more frequent. It seemed the poison wouldn't hold back much longer.
Enduring the pain, Mo Yun gritted his teeth and replied, "Father, I'm fine."
Watching Mo Yun suffer to the point of near unconsciousness yet still insisting he was alright, Mo Feng's heart ached immensely.
In a fluster, Mo Feng hastily administered a fifth-level Bingyun Pill to Mo Yun. Although the pill was taken, Mo Yun's condition showed little improvement.
Initially, the fifth-level Bingyun Pill could alleviate the poison in Mo Yun's system. However, after consecutive doses, Mo Yun's body developed resistance, rendering the pill increasingly ineffective.
A faint fragrance of a pill wafted over, and taking a deep breath, Mo Yun felt the headache alleviating considerably.
"Is this…" Mo Feng's eyes widened in surprise, recognizing the scent of the Bingpo Antidote Pill.
In the past, he had commissioned a sixth-level alchemist to craft the Bingpo Antidote Pill. The alchemist had reached the final stages, and the same fragrance was detected, but the refinement failed at the last moment.
How could this be? There were only three sixth-level alchemists in the Luo Yue Empire. One was in the Alchemist Guild, one was in seclusion, and the last just reached the sixth level, incapable of crafting the Bingpo Antidote Pill.
"Yun'er, how are you feeling?" Mo Feng asked with concern.
Mo Yun, still catching his breath and clutching his head, replied, "Much better."
"Stay here. I need to see what's happening outside," said Mo Feng urgently.
Mo Yun nodded, "Alright."
After ensuring Mo Yun was settled, Mo Feng hurried out.
An immense surge of energy was rapidly gathering towards the small courtyard.
The whole city observed the anomaly near Ye Shi. Sitting atop the roof, Ye Shi remained on high alert, watching the crowd that gathered.
The number of cultivators surrounding Ye Shi was much more than he anticipated. A large group of Tiantun insects circled Ye Shi, chirping. Recently, two more insects advanced to the king level, enhancing Ye Shi's strength further.
Ye Shi's eyes darted around cautiously. Although many had come, not many high-level cultivators were among them. The situation was not as dire as it could have been.
"Hey, what's going on inside? Could it be that there's a treasure in my residence waiting to be unearthed?" The landlord asked, eyes gleaming with excitement.
Ye Shi rolled his eyes. A treasure? Such wild imagination. Why did he ever rent this place from this fool?
"No, there's no treasure!" Ye Shi retorted impatiently.
"How can there be no treasure? The signs are clear. You must've known about it and rented this place on purpose!" The landlord exclaimed angrily.
Grinding his teeth, Ye Shi glared at the landlord, "Dream on! There's no treasure. Now get lost!"
The landlord responded with annoyance, "Are you trying to steal my family's treasure?"
"Your residence is nothing but a shabby place! Where would there be any treasure? Stop with your wild speculations! I've rented this place for seven days," Ye Shi replied indignantly.
"No more renting! Get out now!" The landlord demanded furiously.
Ye Shi's eyes grew cold, "Go."
A golden worm flew towards the landlord and knocked him off his feet. The landlord cried out in shock.
The worm bit a large chunk of flesh from the landlord's rear.
Ye Shi gestured, recalling the worm. The worm he had released was only of the fourth level. If this man couldn't even handle that, he was truly overestimating himself.
The worm flapped its wings, indicating it was still hungry.
Ye Shi rolled his eyes again. These foolish creatures would eat anything.
"Sir, it's not a treasure. It's a level six elixir about to manifest," a cultivator commented.
The landlord scoffed, "Impossible. The ones who rented are just kids. They can't possibly be level six alchemists. If there's a level six elixir, it must have been here originally. Oh! I remember now, my great-grandfather once said that there's a precious item hidden here."
Hearing the landlord's words, a few onlookers began to show interest.
Six formations lit up, emitting a menacing aura.
With a wave of his hand, Ye Shi created a black barrier around the residence.
"Anyone who crosses the line will die," Ye Shi calmly declared, standing atop a rooftop with an imposing aura.
Several individuals who had underestimated Ye Shi because of his youthful appearance now exchanged uneasy glances.
"Is he a royal-level expert?"
"He looks so young!"
"When did our Luo Yue Empire gain such a formidable expert?"
Many spectators watched Ye Shi with a mix of awe and fear.
...
"Teacher, what's happening?" Students from Yao Tian Academy emerged from the forest, witnessing the unusual phenomenon.
"That's the manifestation of a level six elixir."
"Level six elixir? I've never heard of a level six alchemist in this city."
"From the looks of it, this isn't just an ordinary level six elixir."
"If there's a level six alchemist here, we should pay a visit!" one student suggested.
"Good idea. Meeting a level six alchemist is a rare opportunity. Getting acquainted could be very beneficial," the lead teacher replied.
...
A man dressed in gray robes hurriedly approached and landed near Ye Shi.
On seeing the newcomer, Ye Shi grew wary. The man looked anxious and excited, clearly a royal-level expert.
Ye Shi clenched his teeth. Normally, he and Mu Chen could handle any royal-level expert together. But now with Mu Chen occupied with alchemy, handling one on his own would be tricky, especially considering Mu Chen would be weakened after the process.
"Is someone inside concocting an elixir?" The man named Mo Feng asked respectfully.
Ye Shi nodded, "Indeed. You have keen eyes, not like that fool."
Ye Shi glanced at the grimacing landlord, thinking how delusional he was, believing his run-down place held treasures.
Ye Shi knew the onlookers weren't oblivious to the presence of a level six alchemist inside. They were waiting to exploit the alchemist's weakened state post-elixir creation.
Mo Feng asked excitedly, "Is it the Ice Soul Detoxification Pill?"
Ye Shi confirmed, "Yes, it is."
A melodious cry, reminiscent of a phoenix, echoed through the air, followed by a surge of profound spiritual energy that blasted towards the sky. In the blink of an eye, a gaping hole appeared in the roof of the alchemy chamber, emanating a deep blue radiance that soared straight into the clouds.
A pill soared out, only to be swiftly recaptured by someone.
Overwhelmed by the scene, Mo Feng asked, "Brother, who is refining the pill inside? Could they sell it to me?"
Ye Shi shrugged, shaking his head dismissively. "That won't do," he said.
"Why not?" Mo Feng asked, a hint of urgency in his voice.
Ye Shi furrowed his brows, replying, "Because I have need of it."
Mo Feng implored with a tinge of desperation, "Young master, please sell the pill to me. I urgently need it. Whatever you require of it, I'll find a way to help you."
Ye Shi tilted his head, musing to himself: Judging by his demeanor, he genuinely seems desperate. Crossing a royal-level expert might not be wise. As for the whip, could replace it later. Crafting another pill wouldn't be much trouble either.
"How many spirit stones are you offering?" Ye Shi inquired.
Mo Feng was taken aback, his face flushing. Over the years, he'd spent a fortune in spirit stones searching for the Nine-Turn Luo Yan's Ice Soul Antidote Pill. Now, with the pill right before him, he realized... he was broke.
Observing the look on Mo Feng's face, Ye Shi blinked and hesitated, "You don't have any spirit stones, do you?"
"Could you perhaps give me the pill first and allow me some time to gather the spirit stones?" Mo Feng proposed.
Ye Shi's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Mo Feng, thinking: Is he trying to pull a fast one on me?
Mo Feng's face showed a hint of embarrassment. His request was indeed... presumptuous, but he was out of options.
Ye Shi shook his head with a tinge of regret, "I'm sorry, elder, but we are leaving soon. I'm afraid we can't wait for you to gather the spirit stones."
Silently, Ye Shi thought, 'Not only Emperor Wu is poor, but this man, who appears reputable, is also penniless. And he doesn't seem to be a novice among the Emperor Wu ranks!'
"But..." Mo Feng clenched his fists, his face paling.
"Here they come!" Ye Shi exclaimed excitedly, spotting someone hurrying towards them. A gleam of joy flashed across his face.
