Chapter 150
byChapter 150
The continuous sound of the array being attacked was unending, and unease painted everyone's faces.
"How did you run into that guy?" Seeing no quick solution to the array, Ye Shi paused and sought information.
"Though we were all teleported randomly, this region always has the highest number of arrivals. That man, practicing the Blood Cultivation technique, is keen on detecting cultivators. None of us managed to evade his detection."
"Earlier, a formidable senior of ours tried to hold him back but was split in half within moments. That fiend is ruthless."
"A formidable senior? How strong?" Ye Shi inquired skeptically.
"A Four-Star Martial Spirit, not just Level One or Two. Still, compared to that monster, he seemed weaker. Who would've thought the Holy Star Academy hid such a powerhouse?" Xie Danyan exclaimed.
Ye Shi rolled his eyes. Before coming here, his master mentioned two Level Eight Four-Star Martial Spirit twins, both the dean's trusted protégés. The dean had high hopes for them, yet one was cleaved as soon as they arrived.
"That fiend's strength should be at the Eight-Star Martial Spirit level. To think that the Dark Moon Academy kept such a monster hidden, not using him in the competition but releasing him now. Terrifying."
"Mingyue has its hidden aces, and so does Shengxing. It's nothing surprising," Ye Shi remarked nonchalantly.
Compared to Mingyue's trump card, Shengxing's seems insignificant. A prodigy carefully nurtured by the Dean has been lost. The Dean must be heartbroken.
"Mingyue Academy has truly crossed the line, letting such a person in. Are they trying to incite conflict between the two academies?"
Ye Shi shrugged, saying indifferently, "If the two academies were to clash, Shengxing would lose."
Kong Sha isn't the only imperial-level master of Mingyue Academy; the others just didn't come.
Hearing Ye Shi's words, the expressions of those present dimmed instantly.
Ye Shi approached the third formation and resumed his studies.
The attacks on the second formation grew louder, causing anxiety among people like Xie Danyan.
"Ye Shi, can this formation really hold for two days?" a three-star martial artist stuttered.
Ye Shi shook his head, saying, "I'm not sure!"
"You don't know?" Xie Danyan's face showed a mix of shock and disappointment.
Ye Shi nodded, "Yes. I estimate about two days, but it's just a guess."
Xie Danyan, looking desperate, inquired, "Then, how long to break this third formation?"
"I'm not sure. This formation is more complex than the previous one. I'm still trying to figure it out," Ye Shi admitted, looking dejected.
Xie Danyan anxiously said, "If you can't decipher it in time, aren't we doomed?"
Ye Shi dismissed her concerns, "Not necessarily! If the outsider gets bored attacking, you all will be safe."
Ming Feifei sighed softly, "Expecting him to give up is unrealistic."
"Why?" asked a puzzled Ye Shi.
"He's practiced the Forbidden Blood Technique. If word gets out, he'll become a public enemy and will try to eliminate all witnesses," Ming Feifei explained.
"Well, in that case, instead of fearing him, think about how you might break out and eliminate him," Ye Shi pondered.
"He's an eight-star martial spirit!" a seven-star martial artist whispered.
"Even if we face a Martial King, we must confront him. Remember how Mu Chen took a hit for me? Compared to him, everyone else here falls short."
Ye Shi sat in front of the formation, paying no more attention to the others.
The martial artists inside the formation room exchanged glances, rendered speechless.
Xie Danyan approached Ye Shi, asking curiously, "Ye Shi, have you become a fourth-level spell caster?"
Ye Shi nodded, "Yes."
Xie Danyan blinked in admiration, "You're really impressive."
When they first met, she was the granddaughter of the low-level alchemist guild chairman in the imperial city, while Mu Chen and Ye Shi were just ordinary warriors struggling to afford lodging. Now both of them had become renowned masters and star pupils at Shengxing Academy, while she remained just another freshman.
How fortunes change over time. The saying, 'Never underestimate the potential of the young and underprivileged', truly holds.
The relentless assault continued to pierce everyone's eardrums.
After the initial panic, a few students who had calmed down began discussing strategies. Though their power was limited, many had protective artifacts given by their elders.
Ye Shi kept pondering the formation with deep concentration.
"Sigh," Ye Shi exhaled in frustration. The third formation was much more challenging than the second, nearly driving him to his wit's end.
"Finding it tough?" A student offered him a cup of spirit water, trying to get on his good side.
Gratefully accepting and drinking the spirit water, Ye Shi said with a gloomy face, "I'm clueless. I wish Mu Chen were here; he would've surely found a way to crack this formation."
Xie Danyan looked at Ye Shi, her face showing a mix of sadness and admiration. If only she had a fiancé as outstanding as Mu Chen.
As Ye Shi worked through the formation, he struggled to recover his energy. With the passage of time, the second formation grew more fragile, and the dark clouds looming above everyone intensified.
Xie Dan Yan and the others set up another layer of restrictions at the entrance.
"Still no success? Can't break through?" Xie Dan Yan asked Ye Shi, looking at the fading formation.
Ye Shi, looking downcast, shook his head, "No luck."
At this point, their only option was a do-or-die battle. Yin Zong had been severely injured by him before. The constant breaking of formations had also taken its toll on Yin Zong. If the restrictions they set up worked, they should have a fifty percent chance of winning.
Xie Dan Yan gritted her teeth, "Now or never. It's a matter of life or death."
The formation emitted cracking noises and shattered, and a dark figure stepped in – a puppet.
"Boom." Several talismans activated.
"You thought you could ambush me? Dream on," Yin Zong sneered malevolently.
Ye Shi's face turned pale. Yin Zong was more cautious than he had anticipated. His chances of victory seemed slim.
"Boom!" The sound of numerous talismans activating came from outside the formation, "Who dares to ambush me?" Yin Zong was pushed forcefully inside.
Realizing that they had outside help, the people inside the secret chamber rejoiced. As they saw Yin Zong pushed in, everyone quickly activated the restrictions.
As Yin Zong was pushed in, the restrictions fully activated. A series of explosive restrictions were triggered, making Yin Zong spit blood repeatedly.
Through the broken formation, the students saw a familiar figure outside.
"Mu Chen," Xie Dan Yan murmured.
"Why aren't you acting?" Following Mu Chen's words, a dozen more talismans hit Yin Zong. Powered by Mu Chen's unique fire energy, these fourth-grade fire talismans charred Yin Zong black.
Ye Shi took out a massive stone talisman from his spatial ring and smashed it onto Yin Zong's head.
Everyone joined in, and under their relentless assault, Yin Zong was reduced to a charred corpse. Perhaps because of the terror Yin Zong had previously inflicted, they didn't stop until he was pulverized.
Mu Chen walked in leisurely, with several students looking at him admiringly.
Dressed in white robes, Mu Chen exuded an air of grace and nobility.
Lan Ruofeng, seeing the calm and strategic Mu Chen and then reflecting on his disheveled state, felt deeply ashamed.
On seeing Mu Chen, Ye Shi hurriedly approached him, exclaiming, "Mu Chen, you're here! I thought I'd never see you again."
Mu Chen glared at Ye Shi, "Didn't you pay attention to what I told you?"
Ye Shi sheepishly stuck out his tongue, "Sorry!"
In truth, if he hadn't cared for the others, he could've used his flying boots and Yin Zong wouldn't have caught up to him.
But witnessing the death of so many classmates in front of him, Ye Shi felt uneasy.
Seeing Ye Shi's discomfort, Mu Chen sighed softly.
Observing the timid Ye Shi in front of Mu Chen, those accustomed to Ye Shi's colder demeanor wore curious expressions.
"You all can leave now. Seek your fortune outside," Mu Chen addressed the group nonchalantly.
Xie Dan Yan and the others exchanged glances, and the warriors reluctantly left after one last look at Yin Zong's spatial ring.
"Everyone's gone. I thought they'd ask for a share," Ye Shi commented, eyes twinkling mischievously.
Mu Chen responded indifferently, "They're lucky to be alive."
Ye Shi rubbed his nose, thinking, "True. Without me, they'd probably be dead by now."
Mu Chen inspected Yin Zong's spatial ring, noting the numerous star crystals and talismans. Yin Zong had likely profited from countless killings. But for Mu Chen, a true expert in essence stones, this wealth seemed insignificant.
"Here," Mu Chen casually handed the ring to Ye Shi.
Ye Shi hesitated before asking, "You don't want it?"
Mu Chen shrugged, "There's nothing valuable. If you like it, keep it."
Ye Shi nodded gratefully, "Thank you!"
After inspecting the contents of the spatial ring, Ye Shi found many treasures, silently chiding Mu Chen for his high standards.
Seeing the greedy smile on Ye Shi's face, Mu Chen smirked.
"How did you know I was here?" Ye Shi asked, lifting his gaze.
Mu Chen shrugged. "I saw the traces you left behind and followed them here."
Ye Shi nodded with a somewhat complex expression, saying, "So that's how it is!"
"I initially believed I could decipher the formation and elude that person. I underestimated the setup of the formation master. I thought my traps would suffice, but that individual proved to be far more cautious than I anticipated. If you hadn’t arrived in time, I might've met with a mishap." Ye Shi admitted, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
Mu Chen ruffled Ye Shi's hair, "You did well already."
"Really?" Ye Shi asked, his eyes shimmering as he looked at Mu Chen.
Mu Chen nodded, remarking, "Indeed."
