Chapter 23
byChapter 23

Domesticated cats start with a bath.
The school forum immediately exploded. The onlookers promptly snapped pictures and posted their own threads.
In the posts, admiration for Chu Li abounded.
"Post 56: Chu Li really dares to speak his mind. He even took Peng Zihao down. If I were Peng Zihao, I'd feel like dying and wouldn't dare show my face outside anymore. No need for the school to expel me, I'd transfer schools in a hurry... No way, with this level of social death, transferring schools wouldn't be enough. I'd probably have to move to another planet."
"Post 57: Oh my god, he's an Omega! Can Omegas say such things?"
"Post 58: So... is it true that Chu Li has an Alpha?
"Post 59: What do you mean, brother upstairs? Do you want to make a move?
"Post 60: What should I do, he's so captivating when he scolds people. Am I twisted..."
"61st Floor: I'm not sure about being abnormal, but he's certainly got a bit of a masochistic streak."
"62nd Floor: Sobs sobs sobs, who marked him? He's so sharp-tongued; if it was truly forced, wouldn't he have already gone for gland washing by now? The fact that he hasn't suggests they might have been mutually consentual, right? I guess I've arrived too late, qwq."
"63rd Floor: Breaking news!!! Peng Zihao fainted from Chu Li's anger. It seems to be related to an vulnerability phase syndrome. I recall this condition is acute and severe; if left untreated, it can be fatal... Damn, the school's therapeutic device is broken. What are we going to do?"
"64th Floor: ??? If anything happens to Peng Zihao, wouldn't that mean Chu Li accidentally caused a death?"
...
The school forum was in an uproar, and chaos ensued in the corridor of the academic affairs office.
After Peng Zihao, who had just been fiercely aggressive, was flipped onto the ground by Chu Li, he suddenly clutched his chest, writhing in agony.
An eager medical student from the crowd rushed over, diagnosing it as a vulnerability phase syndrome. The onlookers were thrown into disarray.
The principal dispatched someone to fetch a medical scanner, but upon return, they reported that it was malfunctioning, leaving them no choice but to borrow one from the medical department across the river – a round trip that would take roughly ten minutes.
As Peng Zihao struggled for breath, his condition appeared critical.
Chu Li had come across this condition in a book before - it was an abnormality of the heart and angina caused by prolonged hormonal imbalance. It could be fatal within ten minutes during a severe episode. Although he wasn't sure what the Omega Vulnerability Syndrome entailed, there were indeed emergency procedures to deal with life-threatening angina within that time frame.
In his previous life, Chu Li practically lived in the hospital, so he was very familiar with such matters.
In his healthier younger years, when the hospital held emergency drill exercises, he would join the nurses and doctors, and he even achieved commendable scores.
Observing the panicked crowd around him, all relying solely on medical equipment that was now insufficient, Chu Li gritted his teeth. Pushing aside the medical students, he declared, "Let me give it a try."
The person's illness had, to some extent, been triggered by him. While he didn't pity the individual, he also didn't wish to inadvertently become an indirect executioner. Thus, he decided to attempt to heal the seemingly hopeless situation.
Following the emergency procedures from his previous life, Chu Li laid Peng Zihao flat and unfastened his collar and belt.
Throughout this, the principal standing nearby wore a grim expression and hesitated several times to intervene but dared not speak, for fear of truly hindering Chu Li's attempt to save the young man and being blamed for it.
Forget it, if unbuttoning is necessary, then so be it, Chu Li thought. If an Omega like him didn't mind, why should others concern themselves with it?
Chu Li was completely oblivious to the subtle thoughts of those around him. He couldn't have imagined that at such a critical moment, their minds would be preoccupied with the boundaries between Alphas and Omegas.
If he were aware, he would surely comment that these people had some screws loose in their heads.
He gently laid Peng Zihao flat and instructed him to maintain normal breathing. Then, he raised both hands and placed them parallel on Peng Zihao's chest, beginning chest compressions as he had learned in first aid training. The compression depth was 5 centimeters into the sternum, with a rate of 100 compressions per minute.
After several repetitions, Peng Zihao's condition improved slightly. A few more minutes passed before someone hurriedly brought over a portable medical device.
With the equipment in place, Peng Zihao's ashen complexion started to recover. After a brief examination, it was discovered that Chu Li's CPR had fractured two of Peng Zihao's ribs. However, these were minor issues; as long as Peng Zihao could hold on until reaching a medical facility, he would only need to rest for a few hours.
The medical students carried Peng Zihao away, swiftly ending the spectacle.
One of the professors from the healthcare department had accompanied them to the scene. Upon hearing that Chu Li had saved Peng Zihao using only his hands, he gave Chu Li a few extra glances before approaching the school principal.
Whispering something into the principal's ear, the professor's words seemed to evoke a displeased but acknowledging nod from the principal.
---
News of what had happened at the academic affairs office quickly spread throughout the campus.
For a moment, the online forums were filled with heated debates and various opinions.
As for the protagonist, Chu Li himself, he returned to his dormitory, feeling somewhat downcast, holding onto his cat.
A sleepless night... It was too torturous, even for his youthful body. Mentally, he couldn't bear to abuse himself in such a way.
The only improvement in this life compared to his previous one was the healthy body he now possessed. The original owner's hormonal imbalance, which had once plagued him, had spontaneously healed due to the permanent marking. It was a gift from the original owner that he intended to cherish.
Unless absolutely necessary, he didn't wish to exhaust himself by staying up all night.
When Chu Li returned to the dormitory, his roommates were still in class, leaving the room deserted.
He sent the cat to the balcony and, after freshening up, collapsed onto the bed without a second thought, promptly falling asleep.
Upon waking, he found an email from the school granting permission for his transfer.
His debate with the academic officials at the registrar's office, coupled with his personal intervention during Peng Zihao's episode, left the school with no grounds to deny his request.
As for Peng Zihao... perhaps feeling too embarrassed, he didn't have the face to question whether Chu Li had indeed brought a large predator onto campus. Upon regaining consciousness, he hastily submitted his transfer application, slipping away quietly.
With that, the matter came to a close.
News of Chu Li's successful transfer soon spread throughout the entire school, even reaching the ears of students from the military academy across the river.
The medical faculty was situated adjacent to the military academy, located on the other side of the river. Chu Li would have to move into the mixed dormitory area shared by both institutions.
The arrival of an Omega in the military academy's dorms had stirred up everyone's curiosity. Many, engrossed in their training, were curious about the powerful Omega who had successfully transferred. Numerous Alphas, who had previously been vying for attention, wondered what kind of extraordinary Omega could have pulled off such a feat.
However, they were informed, "Forget it, he already has an Alpha. The last one who pursued him against his will had to withdraw from school."
The military academy students dismissed this information with disdain. Peng Zihao might have some reputation outside due to his flamboyant nature and frequent visits to the basketball court across the river, but within the academy, he was hardly considered anything significant – merely a wayward playboy with no real focus.
Many students in the military academy came from military or political backgrounds, seeking prestige. However, there were also plenty with genuine abilities and talents.
Those wealthy young masters who flocked there for prestige had nothing in common with them.
News of Chu Li's decision to join the medical faculty reached Shu Chenghang's ears, prompting him to call Chu Heyang the same day to inquire about it.
Chu Heyang was displeased. "Why are you calling me to ask about Chu Li? Aren't my affairs worthy of your concern?"
Shu Chenghang had just been assigned an outbound mission that required total isolation, so he hadn't been in touch with Chu Heyang for a while.
Upon his return, he found that the situation with Chu Li had blown up into a scandal. Worried, but unable to contact Chu Li, whose numbers he had been blocked from, he hastily called Chu Heyang.
It was only then that he realized his mistake and hurriedly apologized to Chu Heyang.
After a long, affectionate conversation on the phone, Chu Heyang finally calmed down. He told Shu Chengxing, "Yes, he transferred to the medical department, but it's not part of your military academy. Don't even think about secretly visiting him!"
"…" Shu Chengxing felt unjustly guilty with his plan exposed. "I-I wasn't planning on visiting him."
With a grim expression after hanging up, Chu Heyang didn't expect Chu Li's antics to actually result in a transfer to the medical department. Furthermore, the rumor he had spread about Chu Li being permanently imprinted had unintentionally facilitated the transfer.
Reading through the forum discussions about Chu Li, Chu Heyang became even more furious. Could it be that Chu Li wanted to transfer departments just to see Shu Chengxing across the river?
Although Alphas could visit the Omega Academy, Omegas were not allowed to leave without permission. Even he needed Shu Chengxing's help to submit a report if he wanted to go out.
Chu Li was the only exception in the entire integrated school! Now, this exceptional one had become exceptional enough to cross the river.
What should he do? If they spent so much time together and truly developed feelings, what if Chu Li disregarded his permanent imprint and still chose to be with Shu Chengxing?
---
Chu Li was completely oblivious to Chu Heyang's worries. He was simply thrilled about moving into his new dorm.
While packing in the dormitory, Ning Yue locked himself on his bed and said to Chu Li, "Although we've lived together for over a year, we're still not really close. Even though we're not close, I must say that these past few months have been quite enjoyable..."
He rambled on without getting to the point.
Chu Li chuckled. "What do you want to say?"
Ning Yue stretched out his hand. "Alright, I admit it. I'm a bit reluctant to part ways with you. After you transfer to the Medical Department, can we visit your dormitory as guests?"
Chu Li's smile widened. "Of course."
They were Betas, so they wouldn't be restricted like Omegas.
Upon hearing Chu Li's agreement, Ning Yue was a little surprised. However, he quickly sat up, looking at Chu Li expectantly. "Why did you suddenly decide to transfer to the Medical Department? I heard that their workload is quite heavy."
Chu Li pondered for a moment before answering, "Maybe because I want to become a doctor."
In his previous life, seeking medical treatment didn't save him. The original owner gave him a new lease of life, so he felt that he couldn't just drift through life aimlessly.
The technological level in this era was much more advanced, perhaps he could help others like him.
Ning Yue blinked. "Sometimes I envy Omegas. If only I were one, I could openly be with a boy."
Chu Li was taken aback.
He knew about the existence of homosexuals in his previous life but hadn't expected it here as well.
No wonder he found Ning Yue soft and delicate, appearing more like an Omega than himself.
However, the attitude towards Omegas in this world... Chu Li shook his head and said, "Maybe not. You can still be with boys now. You can find a male Alpha."
There were quite a few AB relationships, but most were still heterosexual pairs.
Ning Yue smiled and shook his head. "I think not. Actually, Alphas prefer to be with Omegas. After all, only Omegas can detect pheromones. Their bodies and souls are compatible in a way that Betas can never achieve. Perhaps I'll find a Beta like me to marry in the future."
Chu Li replied, "That's good too, as long as he loves you."
Ning Yue chuckled. "You're really interesting. Why didn't I notice how amusing you are before? Actually, the Empire isn't very accepting of non-procreative couples."
Chu Li was surprised. "Is that so?"
He didn't have much time to chat with Ning Yue since his luggage was already packed. He had never fully unpacked his suitcase since he had been planning to leave. With few possessions, it didn't take long to pack up.
Seeing him lift the suitcase, Ning Yue climbed down from the bed and rushed to the window, opening the glass door for him. "Are you taking Little Li Hua Cat with you?"
After being confined to the balcony for days, the elegant feline gracefully walked out. The two-legged creature had left a small gap in the window, allowing it to jump out to attend to its feline needs and then return to the balcony at night.
It didn't sleep much either. At night, it would crouch in a corner of the balcony where it could see the two-legged creature, silently watching him.
As if aware that Ning Yue was allergic to cat fur, Little Li Hua Cat lightly leaped past him and straight onto Chu Li's shoulder.
Chu Li smiled. "Thanks, I'll come back later to clean the balcony for you."
Ning Yue covered his nose. "No need, let Dongfeng do it when he gets out of class."
Chu Li didn't insist. After expressing his gratitude to Ning Yue multiple times, he left the dormitory with the cat.
Someone was waiting for Chu Li outside – an upperclassman from the Medical Department, a Beta. Curiously, he sized up Chu Li, wondering what skills or abilities he possessed that convinced the school to make an exception and allow him to change departments.
Chu Li knew that the news had likely caused a stir on the forum, but he didn't mind. Smiling at the senior as he descended the stairs, he said, "Shall we go?"
The senior looked at the suitcase in Chu Li's hand and asked, "Is that all you have?"
"Yes," Chu Li replied. "I didn't bring much when I left home."
"Ahh..." The senior opened his mouth, sensing that Chu Li was different from the image people had described.
Omegas were indeed relatively precious entities in the Empire, and due to the societal environment, their families tended to treat them with more favor. It was uncommon to see an Omega leave home with just one suitcase.
Coupled with the rumors about him being permanently imprinted by an Alpha who never showed up, the senior imagined Chu Li as an Omega who was unloved by his family and had hastily found any Alpha to imprint him.
Chu Li was unaware of what the senior was thinking. Although the senior's imagination was exaggerated, it was not entirely off the mark.
Thus, under the guidance of the senior, Chu Li pulled his suitcase along, with Little Li Hua Cat perched on top. The man and cat walked together towards their new dormitory.
The Medical Department was located across the river, neighboring the military academy.
Over there, the dormitory buildings housed both Alphas and Betas, with separate accommodations for male and female students.
If Chu Li were to live in the male dormitory, he would inevitably encounter numerous male Alphas, which would be inappropriate. Staying in the female dormitory was also unsuitable for him.
Right in the corner of the dormitory area stood a separate small building with a courtyard, which had originally served as the residence for the dorm supervisors. Later, due to its distant location from the dormitory blocks, it became inconvenient for management and was abandoned.
After discussion among the school authorities, they decided to renovate this small house for Chu Li to live in.
Chu Li had initially been interested in the single occupancy dorms. Unexpectedly, these had been upgraded to a standalone villa, turning into a delightful surprise.
The senior who was showing him around said, "It has been simply cleaned up inside, with basic furniture provided. However, you'll need to acquire other items on your own. Also, please take care not to damage the furniture or the house, as they belong to the school."
His gaze fell on the cat on Chu Li's luggage, intending to remind him that any damages caused by the feline would require compensation.
He moved his lips but ultimately held back. It was already tragic enough for an Omega to be marked and then abandoned; he didn't want to add further hurt with his words.
Nodding at Chu Li, the senior turned and left.
With the senior gone, Chu Li finally had a chance to examine the small house before him.
The exterior looked rather old and the building itself wasn't spacious, probably accommodating only two or three rooms on each floor. The outer courtyard was surrounded by a wooden fence, just over a meter high. From outside, one could easily see inside. As Chu Li walked in, he began calculating that he might need to install more curtains within the house.
He placed his luggage in the yard and entered the house. The ground floor was a spacious hall with a kitchen and dining area. The second floor had several rooms, while the third floor... had the same layout as the second, but it was the attic, with a sloping wooden roof that made some areas difficult to access without bending down.
Well, he supposed he could turn the second floor into his bedroom. After all, he was alone, and such a large house would be too much for him.
After a cursory inspection of the rooms, Chu Li carried his suitcase upstairs. His belongings were minimal and couldn't even fill half a bedroom. As he made the bed, he realized that his bedding was designed for a single person, whereas the current bed was a double.
It seemed none of it would fit properly.
Standing by his bed, Chu Li found the situation amusing yet frustrating. The sheet was too small to cover the entire bed, so when he pulled on one corner, the other side became exposed.
Thankfully, he didn't have obsessive-compulsive disorder; otherwise, the sight of this "neither here nor there" sheet would have driven him crazy.
Deciding to let it go, Chu Li turned to tidy up the rest of the space—since it wouldn't be smooth anyway, it was best not to dwell on it.
Within an hour, he was done. Glancing into the bathroom, he noticed it was fully equipped, so he took his clean clothes and had a shower first.
With no one else around, Chu Li could remove his collar and gland patches. Emerging from the bathroom, he wore a soft, off-white, bear-print cotton pajama set.
Coincidentally, Li Hua Cat was patrolling the territory and arrived at the bedroom just as Chu Li stepped out. The feline's eyes widened at the sight of the two-legged creature radiating warm vapor from his bath.
Help, he smells so good!
Feeling a bit bashful, Chu Li touched the bite mark on his gland before walking over to pick up Little Li Hua Cat.
The two of them descended the stairs and sat on the sofa in the living room. Chu Li said, "You used to be a stray kitten, I wonder if you can get used to living in a house. The floor isn't very high, and I won't close the windows. If you don't like it here, you can go out and play, but just remember to come back during the day to sleep."
"Miao~" Little Li Hua Cat let out a soft meow. Of course, it wanted to be a house cat! After that two-legged creature finally made up its mind to keep it, how could it possibly leave this house?
It wouldn't budge even if chased away!
Just by listening to the kitten's meows, Chu Li could guess what it was thinking. After all, it was the same Li Hua Cat who had persistently called out to him from outside the window and squeezed into his room with its butt just to become his cat.
Chu Li poked its nose. "In that case... the first step to being a house cat is taking a bath!"
Little Li Hua Cat: "Miao?"
What? A bath? No way! Cats hated water!
Chu Li carried it towards the bathroom.
"Meow- Meow meow!" The little kitten was placed in the bathtub. The master bathroom was spacious, equipped with both a bathtub and a shower.
Chu Li temporarily commandeered the bathtub as a makeshift basin for the kitten's bath.
Li Hua Cat seemed resistant, muttering complaints, but once inside the tub, it didn't attempt to jump out. Chu Li judged it to be a 'paper tiger' and turned on the faucet, adjusting the water temperature.
True to its high-tech credentials of the new world, the water emerged warm. Chu Li tested the temperature, finding it acceptable, then set the showerhead on the edge of the bathtub while the water filled up.
Leaving to fetch a towel for the kitten, Li Hua Cat pitifully sprawled at the bottom of the tub, moving slightly aside as the water level rose. If that wasn't enough, it would lift a paw.
Upon returning with the towel, Chu Li found Li Hua Cat cowering in a corner of the bathtub, one paw raised, looking at Chu Li with a pitiful expression.
"Meow!"
Its soft, plaintive cry seemed to be a complaint against Chu Li.
Unable to suppress a chuckle, Chu Li gently pressed down the raised paw. The moment the paw touched the water, the kitten yowled again, "Meow!"
This time, the tone was more intense, its grievance more palpable.
Chu Li said, "No way, you have to be clean before you can run around in the room. You'll have to bathe every month from now on."
"Meow..." The kitten's eyes instantly lost their luster as it looked at Chu Li with despair.
Chu Li remained unmoved with his stony heart, moving the showerhead over the kitten's head and carefully pouring water down its forehead, avoiding its two ears.
As he wet the kitten, he also rubbed its fur, causing the fluffy and soft fur to cling pathetically to its body after being soaked, shrinking the kitten's size by a circle.
It looked rather silly.
Chu Li couldn't help but laugh, ignoring the kitten's mournful gaze as he rubbed its forehead.
"Meow!" It was the kitten's protesting cry.
"Alright, alright, stop meowing. I'll finish quickly." Chu Li didn't buy pet shampoo, so he could only use water for now. Thankfully, the kitten wasn't too dirty, just some mud on its paws and belly that could be washed off.
However, the more he talked to the kitten, the more it meowed, making Chu Li keep talking throughout the entire process, 'forced' into a conversation with a cat until the bath was over.
After the final rinse, Chu Li turned off the tap. Upon seeing this, the kitten began shaking its body to get rid of the water.
Don't underestimate the shaking prowess of our feline and canine friends. As water droplets sprayed about, Chu Li promptly called out, "Wait—"
With no time to retreat, he could only grab a towel from the side to shield himself from the splashing water that was flung off Li Hua Cat's body.
"Meow!" Li Hua Cat purred with delight, as if a mischievous child had pulled off a successful prank.
Chu Li found the situation both frustrating and amusing. He playfully threw a towel over Li Hua Cat's head and vigorously rubbed the feline's body. Li Hua Cat tumbled within the towel, exposing even its soft paw pads.
As Chu Li wiped, he inadvertently brushed against its small belly, discovering that the previous wound had completely healed. A thick coat of fur had grown over it, making it impossible to discern any difference even upon touch.
Relieved, he found that Li Hua Cat's vitality was stronger than he had anticipated.
After drying the cat, he carried the little feline out of the bathroom and placed it on his bed.
Swiftly, Li Hua Cat burrowed beneath the sheets, exposing only its eyes, which stared intently at Chu Li.
Chu Li couldn't help but chuckle, patting its head gently before turning to tidy up the bathroom from the aftermath of bathing the cat.
His clothes were drenched during the process, and his arms were covered in cat fur. He decided to take another shower, but realizing he didn't have extra pajamas, he chose to make do with a casual shirt he found lying around, wearing only his underwear underneath, as he exited the bathroom.
Li Hua Cat was still playfully rolling around on the bed. Upon noticing this, it meowed and darted downstairs, vanishing from sight.
Chu Li paid no attention to it and climbed onto the bed, opening the e-commerce app of this era.
He needed some daily necessities.
As well as items for cat care.
When selecting cat food, Chu Li hesitated for a moment. Recalling Li Hua Cat's previous reactions, he finally settled for just a few trial packs.
But as he continued browsing, his money started to run low. This was the living expense that Chu Heyang's family had provided for an entire semester. It was obvious they wouldn't be supporting him next semester.
In truth, Chu Li didn't want to owe them this favor either. The money could be considered a loan, which he would have to repay eventually.
Thus, a problem arose.
How could he earn money?
There were many opportunities to make money in the past – he could work as a gaming booster or coach online, take on temporary jobs as a server at cafes or restaurants, or even tutor primary school students.
However, Chu Li's current situation was peculiar, and none of these methods seemed appropriate.
Indeed, a penny could make a hero fall.
He lay back on the bed, and Li Hua Cat, hearing the noise, rushed upstairs to curl up beside him.
Chu Li casually stroked it and said, "My little darling, I can no longer afford to keep you. What should I do?"
"Meow?" What was this two-legged creature saying?
The little feline was unaware of the complexities that plagued bipedal creatures, and Chu Li had no intention of delving into such matters with it. He gently stroked its head and remained silent.
At night, when it was time to sleep, the kitten stealthily pushed open the bedroom door. Gazing at the two-legged creature lying in bed, it leaped onto the bed and nestled behind his neck.
Beneath the moonlight, the barely noticeable bulge of an gland caught the little Li Hua Cat's attention. It quietly approached and licked the teeth marks on the gland.
The next morning, Chu Li awoke from his slumber feeling refreshed. He stretched luxuriously, only to suddenly realize that there was a warm, soft presence beside him. Upon lifting the covers, he discovered that the Li Hua Cat, which he had settled downstairs the previous night, had somehow made its way up and was now sleeping soundly against his waist.
Chu Li found himself both amused and exasperated.
He thought that as cats were nocturnal creatures, he had placed it downstairs to avoid disrupting its activities and to prevent it from disturbing his sleep.
To his surprise, the little Li Hua Cat's routine was identical to his.
Chu Li rubbed its head affectionately, and the sleeping kitten finally stirred, stretching before gazing at Chu Li with a dazed look.
After some thought, Chu Li said, "I'll open the window for you. You can go out and play when you want, but I need to go to class."
"Meow—" The kitten seemed to understand, responding with a single meow towards Chu Li.
Seeing that it still looked sleepy and ready to doze off, Chu Li quietly slid off the bed, trying not to wake the kitten.
Having finally descended from the bed, Chu Li stood on the floor, experiencing an illusion of a husband leaving for work without wanting to disturb his sleeping wife.
Amused yet exasperated, he shook his head and headed for the bathroom.
After freshening up, he went to the cafeteria for breakfast, where he encountered Xu Dongfeng and Lin Chengming.
Xu Dongfeng was visibly concerned. "Did you encounter any unexpected issues when you moved in by yourself?"
Chu Li said helplessly, "What kind of accident could happen at school?"
Xu Dongfeng replied, "Who knows? Didn't that person… try to hurt you in the library before?"
Chu Li shook his head, indicating that he was fine. He looked outside and realized that this place was far from Xu Dongfeng's dormitory. "Why did you come all the way here?"
Xu Dongfeng said, "We were worried about you, so we came to check on you."
Chu Li commented, "That's quite a distance."
Lin Chengming ruined the mood by saying, "It's just that no one would bring us food if you left, so we had to get up."
Xu Dongfeng hastily nudged him. "What are you saying!"
Chu Li, however, smiled. He knew in his heart that Lin Chengming was usually busy, and Xu Dongfeng's dormitory wasn't close either. The two of them must have intentionally come over.
Despite knowing each other for some time, their concern for him deeply touched Chu Li.
Lin Chengming was genuinely busy. After only a few bites of his meal, he prodded Xu Dongfeng. "Alright, we've seen enough. Shouldn't we head back now?"
Finished his statement, he then turned to Chu Li and said, "The night before you left, he was fretting and couldn't sleep. I think he's gotten used to being a caretaker. Otherwise, why don't you let him move into your little house and become your caretaker there?"
Exposed, Xu Dongfeng's face flushed red as he reached out to hit Lin Chengming. "Will it kill you to stop being so damn sarcastic?!"
Lin Chengming dodged the attack but still addressed Chu Li. "Be careful living in the Alpha dormitory area on your own."
Chu Li smiled. "It's alright. Anyway, I've been permanently imprinted. To those Alphas, I'm probably not much different from a Beta."
But Lin Chengming didn't quite agree with Chu Li's statement. "Betas can still encounter danger at times."
Knowing that Lin Chengming was concerned for him, Chu Li chuckled amicably. "Alright, got it. I'll be more cautious."
Only then did Lin Chengming seem a bit happier.
After exchanging a few more words, Lin Chengming received a reminder from their professor and left with Xu Dongfeng.
Following the instructions in the transfer email, Chu Li headed to the Medical Department for his classes.
The academic buildings on campus were quite similar, so Chu Li easily found his classroom. Upon entering, he discovered that it was already full of students. Though they tried to appear nonchalant, their eyes still secretly glanced at Chu Li, wondering who this Omega was that had made the school break its rules and allow him to switch departments.
Despite the attention, Chu Li didn't glance at anyone and instead walked to his seat, busying himself with organizing his desk.
"One of them is actually an Omega, and the teacher let him join us! Can you believe it?"
"I've never really known any Omegas before. They're treated like rare species in school. I doubt I'll ever marry one. But looking at him now, he doesn't seem all that different from a regular Beta, does he?"
"Are you stupid? He can bear children, can you?"
The student who had compared Omegas to Betas received a nudge from their classmate.
The commotion grew too loud for Chu Li to ignore, so he lifted his gaze and met their eyes. In response, the two boys awkwardly smiled at him.
Chu Li sensed their curiosity more than anything malicious, so he returned their smile.
However, he then heard someone exclaim, "He smiled at me! He smiled at me! An Omega smiled at me!"
Chu Li: "..."
Forget it, he'd better not engage with them for now.
Chu Li lowered his head to gather his books – these were given to him by the senior when he moved into the villa yesterday, stating that they were the current textbooks for first-year Nursing students.
The education system in this world was different from Chu Li's previous life. Students could enroll at any time with lenient requirements, but only after accumulating enough credits could they graduate. Changing majors meant starting from the first year, and with capability, one could finish in a year; conversely, without dedication, a decade might be spent lingering as a seasoned student.
This system was quite accommodating to outsiders like Chu Li. As long as tuition was paid, there would always be a place for learning. If he so wished, he could even study every subject offered by the school.
Of course, the school might not be too thrilled about that.
In truth, Chu Li had often wished he had been born an Alpha or Beta. Life would have been much easier, and no one would become belligerent after being rejected. Yet, remembering that the original owner had left his body to him, Chu Li felt a deep sense of guilt.
Despite knowing the slight inconvenience that came with being an Omega, he remained grateful and cherished his current identity.
Not long after, the teacher arrived – an elderly professor with snow-white hair. Chu Li couldn't shake off the feeling that the man gave him a glance upon entering the room.
But without a word, the professor walked over to the lectern and began his lesson.
The Nursing curriculum was far more complex than what was taught at the Omega Academy. The teacher's teaching approach was also more rigorous, occasionally calling on students for questions.
After going around the room, the professor's gaze finally landed on Chu Li. Pushing up his decorative glasses, he said, "For our final question, let's hear from our new transfer student."
All eyes were fixed on Chu Li, who looked left and right before slowly standing up, realizing there was no one else.
The old professor gazed at him with a smile. "We all know that the glands of an Alpha are different from those of an Omega. Can you tell us, student, how they differ?"
Chu Li replied, "On either side of the neck, connected to an Alpha's teeth, allowing them to release pheromones during mating."
Discussing such topics felt as awkward as openly talking about intimate matters in his previous life. Yet, Chu Li, having embraced the mindset of a medical student, didn't attach much importance to his gender.
As he finished speaking, whispers filled the classroom. These students had just started school after the summer break and were still adjusting to their new identities. The Alphas, in particular, blushed bright red but couldn't resist stealing glances at Chu Li - why did this Omega speak so candidly when he looked so good?
Satisfied with Chu Li's response, the professor nodded and asked a few more basic questions.
Chu Li had already studied these topics at the Atlas Library, so he answered effortlessly.
Having received satisfactory answers, the professor said, "You're doing great. Although this is your first lesson after changing majors, it's evident that you've prepared well for the transition. I hope your decision was made with careful consideration, and I wish you success and progress on the path you've chosen."
Since Chu Li arrived in this world, aside from Little Li Hua Cat's affection, no one had supported his choices.
Even those who initially showed kindness to him, like Xu Dongfeng, approached the matter of transferring majors with mixed feelings, urging Chu Li more than once not to go through such upheaval.
Although Li Hua Cat was affectionate towards Chu Li, it was, after all, just a cat and unable to communicate with him in human terms.
Upon hearing the professor's affirmation, Chu Li felt an almost overwhelming urge to shed tears of relief.
There were still normal people in this world with whom he could connect.
Chu Li nodded and replied, "I definitely will."
"Good." The old professor gave him a gentle smile before addressing the others, "Let us continue discussing the physical differences after the AO differentiation."
The lecture lasted for over two hours, and by the end of it, Chu Li found it challenging to maintain his concentration.
With only one class in the morning, he planned to head back to his dormitory before going to eat.
Exiting the academic building, he spotted a familiar figure not far away – the very same professor whose class had just ended five minutes ago.

I'm not sure, my cat sleeps both day and night; perhaps it's because it hasn't grown up yet.
