Chapter 9
byChapter 9
Lancelot left the old butler here with a grim face to supervise.
He himself yawned and stepped directly into the teleportation array to go home and catch up on sleep.
Last night, he had continuously teleported across three major regions, running back and forth for the Animal Pet Shop.
The impact of the animal pets on professionals was even greater than Lancelot had anticipated. Both his teacher and his mother were eager to thoroughly understand Xiao Qi.
This led to Lancelot not getting any sleep all night.
Even as a Seventh-level Knight, he felt a bit drowsy.
Lorant found a piece of leaf paper and began listing the live exotic beasts he currently needed.
Apart from the Brain-Eating Monkeys, there were also several other breeding lines that lacked certain exotic beasts.
He listed them one by one, preparing to hand them over to Lancelot later to see if he could find a way to obtain them.
A week later, the Animal Pet Shop was officially completed.
Lorant personally hung the sign engraved with 'Blue Star Pet Shop' above the main entrance.
Looking at the spacious storefront, Lorant felt a strong sense of belonging deep in his heart.
This was the first true asset he had in this world. Starting today, his own Animal Pet Shop was officially open for business.
The front of the shop facing the road was entirely opened up. Upon entering, one would see the teleportation array on the right side of the ground, emitting a faint glow.
Behind the teleportation array was a counter designed by Lorant himself. The half-height wooden counter had a carved head of a Crystal Ice Flame Dog, which the best carpenter had made lifelike.
In the center of the shop, according to Lorant's requirements, a marble-topped table was placed.
Lorant had modeled the tabletop after those in mobile phone stores from his previous life, making it just the right height for people to stand beside and examine the items on it.
The tabletop was currently relatively empty, with only a twenty-centimeter tall statue of a Crystal Ice Flame Dog.
This statue was specially crafted by mages from the Congress of Magic for Lancelot.
The Crystal Ice Flame Dog in the statue seemed alive, wagging its tail and scratching itself within the image.
Next to the statue was a stack of brochures about the Crystal Ice Flame Dogs.
These were all replicated by Lorant based on his "Guidebook." The expensive, animated magic guidebook was kept by Lorant, while the paper versions were provided for the shop's customers.
On the far left of the shop, Lorant had set up a row of shelves. He had packed the dog food for the Crystal Ice Flame Dogs into small bags made of leaf paper, neatly stacked on the shelves.
Each small bag was marked with a special magical seal, bearing the words 'Blue Star Pet' and a blurry image of a Crystal Ice Flame Dog's head, looking exceptionally exquisite.
This was the anti-counterfeiting mark of this world.
This was not Lorant's original idea; before this, magical anti-counterfeiting marks already existed, and brands of a certain scale all had such marks.
This world was so distortedly terrifying. While the lives of commoners were still stuck in the medieval era, the lives of professionals and nobles had developed to an unimaginable level.
Lorant had never dared to imagine that this world had something like "intellectual property rights."
It wasn't until Lancelot handed him a 'Patent Book for Animal Pet Knowledge,' made of some unknown material, that Lorant vaguely understood what kind of world this was.
Behind the counter was a door leading to the backyard. Passing through the small door, one entered the covered corridor of the backyard.
The corridor, made of purple cypress wood with a roof, connected the back door of the Animal Pet Shop, the living room of the residence, and the pet storage area.
The water from the Holy Shield River, introduced from outside the fence, divided the entire courtyard into four grassy areas. Near the Animal Pet Shop and the residential entrance were two smaller grassy areas.
A small white-domed pavilion sat among them, surrounded by broad-leaf plants.
The Crystal Ice Flame Dogs, now transferred here, were frolicking freely throughout the yard.
Two-week-old Crystal Ice Flame Dogs were no longer restrained by a meter-wide stream. These energetic puppies were chasing each other and leaping back and forth over the stream, seemingly finding a new game.
Walking along the back door to the side was Lorant's new home.
Although there was no glass to create beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows, the sturdy and beautiful purple cypress wood walls, along with the light brought by magic, made up for much of the disappointment.
Ruth stood at the door, her eyes filled with surprise mixed with a hint of unease.
Born into an ordinary farming family, she had never seen such a beautiful house in her life.
To have a house of her own that could shelter her from wind and rain was already very satisfying for Ruth.
Not to mention the magical crystals driving the spells and the golden, shimmering teleportation array in her eyes.
Even the teleportation array that her son rarely used when going to the Black Forest was now in their home.
This was a scene she had never dared to dream of.
Ruth stood at the doorstep, hesitant to enter, fearing that stepping inside would shatter the dream.
Lorant smiled helplessly and pushed his mother from behind, urging her, "Mom, come in and take a look! See how our home is!"
Pushing open the door facing the courtyard, they saw a spacious living room.
Ruth carefully touched the fireplace, where a pile of firewood was stacked, imagining the warmth it would bring when lit.
Beside the fireplace were several uniquely shaped armchairs, each stuffed full and looking very comfortable.
The soft leather sofa in the center was custom-made by Lorant. Although not as comfortable as a fabric sofa, it is still a thousand times better than a wooden bench.
Up the stairs, there's a small terrace with four doors leading to rooms belonging to Lorant's family and his partner, Lancelot.
Each bedroom is equipped with an independent bathroom, and the clean, embedded marble bathtub looks very comfortable.
Leaving Ruth to explore her room, Lorant returned behind the counter and activated the teleportation array, officially preparing to open for business. Then he propped his head up and began daydreaming, waiting for customers.
However, while seemingly daydreaming, Lorant had actually opened the "Breeding Simulation" feature in his guidebook and continued experimenting one by one.
Over the years, Lorant has only managed to find five successful breeding routes by sheer luck.
"Brother!" After an unknown amount of time, Silem's surprised voice came from the doorway.
Lorant looked up to see Silem and Simon, along with at least twenty well-equipped knights, carrying a large number of cages into the shop entrance.
"Silem, what's this?" Lorant approached, surprised at the sight of all the cages.
"Brother, our mission is over, and the senior asked us to bring these things to you." Silem said proudly, pointing behind him. "Look, these are all the creatures we caught working with the senior!"
At a glance, Lorant saw that among the thirty or so cages were Claw Wolves, Brain-Eating Monkeys, Wind Blade Foxes—creatures he had specifically requested—and some first and second-level beasts he had only seen in the guidebook.
"Good work, everyone. Let's move them inside."
Lorant led them through the side gate of the shop straight to the empty beast storage rooms.
Lorant had rented an entire row of beast storage rooms, but the existing beasts filled less than a tenth of the space, leaving plenty of room.
Directing the young knights to carry the cages into the storage rooms and categorize them, the journey through the beast warehouse left all the young knights, including Silem, in awe of the massive facility brimming with magical traces.
"Thank you for your hard work, Silem. Please have everyone rest in the courtyard. I'll get you something to drink." Lorant said, watching two apprentice knights place the last cage containing a Claw Wolf on top of another before closing the room door.
Those who had come to deliver the items were part of Lancelot's team, mostly apprentice knights or first-level knights.
A week of living together in the wild had made them familiar with each other.
Those willing to make this delivery were friends of Silem.
Sitting in the elegant pavilion, everyone's gaze towards Silem became peculiar.
"Silem, what does your family do? How can you afford this?" A female knight couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.
"Yeah, you're usually so low-key, Silem!"
Though others didn't speak, their curious gazes spoke volumes.
Even Simon couldn't help but look at his friend up and down.
"Well, I don't know. Our families live in the college's subsidized housing, just like you know, Simon knows too."
Silem shifted uncomfortably, feeling out of place in such a beautiful courtyard.
"But those glowing lights on the ceiling are illumination spells, which aren't easy to come by!"
Another classmate chimed in.
"Yes, my father tried to get a similar setup recently, but the Congress of Magic said it would take until the year after next to get approval."
The boy, Green, whose family held a viscount title and who was naturally talented, was feeling a bit envious.
"But my brother is really amazing. He rented this place and bred the beast pets himself." Silem said proudly.
"Beast pets? Oh right, I saw the sign outside says 'Animal Pet Shop.'"
"What are these beast pets?" Green asked, puzzled. Despite being well-informed, he had never heard of beast pets.
Could these beast pets be the reason for such wealth in such a short time?
"Over there, I'll call it over for you to see." Silem looked around and spotted the Crystal Ice Flame Dog in the distance.
"Little Eight! Come here, Little Eight!"
