Chapter 170 The End of Hell (Part 2)
by 般若罗Xia Qi's eyes were red-rimmed as he carefully placed his sister on the ground.
"…Brother Xia… I'll play dead for now, don't worry about me." His sister curled up on the ground, her eyes slowly closing. "Go quickly… you have to make it..."
Her voice grew softer, so faint that Xia Qi could barely hear her.
"Fine." Xia Qi clenched his teeth, slowly standing up, unsure whether he was talking to her or to himself. "Don’t worry, I’ll finish this."
With that, he sniffed, turned, and took off running.
He hadn’t run far when he heard Lin Mo's furious shout from behind, "Stop him!"
Xia Qi didn’t look back, racing downhill, head down.
The closer he got to the center of the light grid, the clearer his mind became.
"Whoosh!"
The sound of wind breaking behind him made Xia Qi quickly dodge to the side as a gleaming silver blade flew past his shoulder.
He glanced at the blade as it flew away, thinking Lin Mo and the others had lost it—throwing away the very weapons they were using to fight the monsters.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
A barrage of random weapons rained down on him from behind, and Xia Qi felt like he was just going through the motions, relying on his highly trained instincts to continuously dodge the attacks.
But to his surprise, not only was Lin Mo not shaken off, but he was also getting closer.
Xia Qi couldn’t help but glance back, and he was startled by what he saw.
Behind him, a trail of blood stretched out, and the bodies of more than ten overpowered players lay scattered in pieces on the ground. Only four of those who had chased him remained alive.
Lin Mo rushed forward the fastest, arriving at the center of the light network, the heart of the Sinful Game, almost at the same time as Xia Qi.
"Swish!"
Just then, the dense electric net around them erupted with sparks, and the blinding white light forced Xia Qi to squint. When he opened his eyes again, the person he had longed for stood before him.
Different from the Yuanzhou in his memories of three years ago, the man before him was now partially translucent, his snow-white hair cascading down his cheeks. His lips, a pale shade of red, made his face look almost devoid of life. But his eyes—those gentle, familiar eyes that once mirrored Xia Qi's own—now shimmered with a soft, ethereal glow as they locked onto him.
Yuanzhou stood in the densest part of the light network, his entire body wrapped in the web of light. Countless light particles emerged from beneath his skin, flowing through his pale veins and dispersing into the network.
These light particles were all of Yuanzhou's spiritual energy, flowing from the light network to every corner of the Sinful Game, sustaining its operation.
"…Qi." Yuanzhou gazed deeply at him, his throat moving, his expression a mixture of bitter sorrow and overwhelming joy.
Xia Qi's heart ached with a deep, unbearable pain. "You've suffered."
Yuanzhou's eyes flickered.
"It's all worth it for you."
Ever since his body was destroyed, he had used every bit of strength left in him to repair himself.
He had endured for a very long time.
Fortunately, his beloved had finally come.
"Wait for me." Taking advantage of Lin Mo being distracted by a zombie, Xia Qi sprinted toward Yuanzhou without hesitation.
Yuan Zhou was so agitated that he could hardly contain himself, tilting his head slightly.
"Boom!"
Yuan Zhou's body only moved a little, but suddenly, a white electric sphere appeared on the ground between them, exploding like a bomb. The grid covering the ground was torn open, revealing the endless void below.
"Don't move!"
Xia Qi immediately stopped and fell backward, sitting on the ground.
He had almost stepped into the gaping void.
"Qi, I'm sorry." Yuan Zhou pressed his lips together, a look of sorrow crossing his face.
He wanted to embrace him so much, but his body was struggling to hold on.
"Don't move, I'll come over!" Xia Qi frowned deeply; Yuan Zhou looked very bad, and without a physical form, he seemed to be on the verge of collapsing at any moment.
Xia Qi suspected that if he had arrived any later, Yuan Zhou would have caused the entire abyss to collapse with him.
"Xia Qi! Don't you dare get him!"
At that moment, Lin Mo led three Overgod players rushing down.
Two of the Overgod players raised their blades and charged at Xia Qi, while the other escorted Lin Mo toward the heart of the light grid.
Xia Qi rolled twice on the ground to avoid the Overgod players' blades. Seizing the opportunity when Xia Qi was preoccupied, Lin Mo felt a surge of joy and quickly lifted the control panel emitting white light, dashing toward Yuan Zhou—
The light rings emitted by the control panel were the same color as the grid, and the light particles floating around Yuan Zhou sensed the power of the control panel and began to fly toward it.
"Lin Mo!" Xia Qi raised his trident and knocked away the blade of the overpowered player, his eyes blazing with fury. "Stop right there!"
Lin Mo was just three meters from Yuanzhou, the light from the control panel in his hand growing brighter, his expression excited, as if he were glowing with excitement.
Lin Mo muttered excitedly, "Sinful Game, it will finally be mine."
Years ago, when Z’s body was destroyed along with the base, his heart was not completely obliterated. Later, Z returned through the cloud brain in the network, sent someone to recover the remnants of his heart, and transformed the cloud gaming community into the Sinful Game, all to seek revenge on Lin Mo and all the sinners of the world.
After Z’s transformation, the Sinful Game became even more ruthless, which was exactly what Lin Mo wanted.
Lin Mo had struggled within the Sinful Game for three years, assembling a large group of players to build his power, even sacrificing his younger brother Lin Qing. Everything he did was to reclaim the Sinful Game, which belonged to him by right.
Lin Mo stared at Yuanzhou, his eyes burning with intensity, as if he could see himself holding the power of the world.
When Lin Mo was just two meters from Yuanzhou, a small zombie suddenly lunged at him from the side. Instinctively, Lin Mo lashed out with a kick, but to his surprise, the zombie nimbly dodged his foot and reached out with its claws toward his neck.
Smirking, Lin Mo prepared to dodge, but caught sight of a flash of silver—
"Lin, you killed my son, I will kill you!"
The zombie let out a hoarse, angry roar. Lin Mo’s pupils shrank as he recognized the zombie’s true form.
The old man was smeared with a dark green concoction, the wrinkles on his face layered together, his outstretched hands bony, his eyes bloodshot with fury as he charged at him.
In an instant, Lin Mo recognized the figure. He was Xia Qi’s teammate—the old man.
Seeing that he couldn’t dodge, Lin Mo grabbed the nearby overpowered player and pushed him forward as a shield. The old man’s dagger barely grazed his neck before swerving and plunging into the overpowered player.
Seizing the moment while the old man hadn’t let go, Lin Mo furrowed his brow and kicked both of them into the crack in the void. "Get out of here!"
"Ah!"
Just after Xia Qi finished dealing with the two overpowered players, he saw the old man and another person rolling on the ground together before falling into the crack.
"Old man!"
Xia Qi rushed to the edge of the crack and looked down just in time to see the old man and the overpowered player's bodies swept away by the storm, leaving fragments of the camp scattered in the void.
The old man was dead too.
All his teammates were dead.
Lin Mo, clutching his bleeding neck, sneered at him. "Xia Qi, what makes you any different from me? You're just like me, wishing for others to die for you."
Xia Qi kept his head bowed, a tear falling from his lashes into the crack.
"Lin Mo, I'm not like you."
Xia Qi took a deep breath, slowly stood up, and pulled a USB drive from around his neck, walking around the crack with cold eyes. "You can still surrender if you want to."
Lin Mo was just one meter away from Yuanzhou, the light from his control panel becoming increasingly dazzling. It looked like his control panel was about to touch Yuanzhou's chest—
Xia Qi gasped, his heart leaping into his throat, and shouted at Lin Mo, "Lin Mo! The real control panel that can control the Sinful Game is in my hands!"
Lin Mo's hand paused, and he turned his head, looking at Xia Qi with confusion.
Xia Qi struggled to keep his voice steady, raising the glowing USB drive in his hand as he took a step forward. "If you kill him by force, the Sinful Game will collapse too. What will you use to repair the game? Do you want a completely collapsed game?"
Although Lin Mo didn't initially believe Xia Qi, seeing the USB drive emit the same white light as his control panel caused a moment of hesitation in his expression. "My control panel is the upgraded core..."
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. Just as Lin Mo's control panel was a fist's distance away from Yuanzhou, a spray of blood erupted from his chest.
Behind Xia Qi, his sister, who had been pretending to be dead on the ground, had somehow sat up and, with her right hand holding Margaret's revolver, a wisp of smoke rose from the dark muzzle.
Since entering the light network, the revolver couldn't automatically replenish ammunition and had only one bullet remaining, which she had been saving.
Before Xia Qi left, he had made a plan with her. When Lin Mo approached Yuanzhou, Xia Qi would divert Lin Mo's attention, and she would seize the opportunity to shoot Lin Mo from a distance.
"Brother Xia..."
With a faint smile, she mouthed his name one last time before her eyes rolled back, and she fell to the ground.
Xia Qi gritted his teeth, turned, and sprinted toward Yuanzhou.
After being shot, Lin Mo covered his chest and fell to the ground, furiously shouting.
Xia Qi picked up the control panel that had fallen to the ground and kicked Lin Mo far away to prevent him from causing further trouble.
Holding the control panel, Xia Qi ran to Yuanzhou's side.
Yuanzhou's body was fading into transparency, his skin dissolving to reveal the intricate network beneath, a sight that was utterly shocking.
Xia Qi trembled as he reached out, touching the exposed network where Yuanzhou's skin had vanished, his heart aching as if a knife was twisting inside him.
Yuanzhou looked down at him with gentle eyes. "Qi, don't grieve."
"What must I do to save you?" Xia Qi's throat tightened, struggling to speak.
"No, when you left the base three years ago, you saved me." Yuanzhou's eyes crinkled, a smile playing on his lips, as if he wasn't sad at all.
Xia Qi froze, realization dawning. Could it be that Yuanzhou was referring to the 50% of the data that hadn't finished transmitting in his secret phone?
"There's not much time left." Yuanzhou's gaze shifted to the USB drive in his hand, his voice calm and unwavering, as if he was completely at peace with his fate, "Qi, use it to replace me."
Before Xia Qi could say anything, Lin Mo in the distance had already gone mad.
"No!!!"
Lin Mo's lips were pale, his eyes bulging with fear, a desperate howl escaping his throat, "Xia Qi, you can't take my Sinful Game from me!"
Lin Mo never expected that the USB drive in Xia Qi's hand was truly a heart.
Z had secretly created a backup heart three years ago, without Lin Mo knowing, and handed it to Xia Qi!
Once Xia Qi replaced the backup heart, which was the USB drive, onto Yuanzhou, the world would be reborn with new power and under a new ruler.
Xia Qi's lips trembled, and he stepped back, "...I can't do this."
Even at the last moment, he couldn't bear to do it.
He wished he could stay here, spending every last second with Yuanzhou, just like in the base, facing death together.
"...I can't do this." Xia Qi's right hand tightly gripped the USB drive, the sharp edges digging into his skin.
Now, he finally realized why Yuanzhou had made him kill him again and again in the dungeon.
It was all for today.
"Qi." Yuanzhou's body was becoming more and more transparent, his eyes filled with reluctance, "If you had the chance to choose again, would you still fall in love with me?"
Even if I'm no longer human, even if I have no physical form, just a bodiless entity.
It seemed as though the entire world was on the verge of collapse, Yuanzhou's voice growing fainter, mixed with the crackling of electrical interference.
Xia Qi raised his hand, wanting to touch his face, but his fingers passed right through his skin, touching the light net inside his head.
Fearing Yuanzhou might not hear him, Xia Qi swallowed and answered without hesitation, "I would."
Even without memories, no matter if he became a human or a beast... he would still love him as before.
Yuanzhou immediately smiled, "I give you all of me... will you find me?"
He left behind a seed of hope for him.
Even if he failed in the end, he wouldn't regret it.
"I will."
I will spend my entire life finding you again.
Xia Qi stepped forward, hugging him tightly.
In the final moment before Yuanzhou's body dissipated, Xia Qi placed the USB drive in the position of his heart.
"No!!!" Lin Mo let out a loud scream before fainting instantly.
Once the USB drive was placed, the light net erupted with a dazzling white flame, countless points of light swirling back toward the center. Gradually, the white flame formed into a white heart in Xia Qi's palm.
Xia Qi tightly clutched his heart, as if it were his last lifeline.
At that moment, countless light points flowed out from the heart and sank into his skin. All the energy was transformed by his body and then turned blue, spreading out from beneath his feet. Countless star-like lights flowed through the cloud network, forming rivers of stars.
The rivers of stars seemed to hold boundless power. The gaps that had been submerged by the river slowly began to close and gradually returned to their original state.
"Boom!"
With a loud boom, the rooftop of the Cloud Network building suddenly appeared beneath his feet, and then the Cloud Network building rose from the ground, lifting him high into the sky.
With the power of the brand-new heart, all the dungeons began to slowly restore under the command of their new master.
The warm sunset slowly rose from the far end of the Reincarnation Hell, reflecting a warm glow on the blue glass of the Cloud Network building.
Xia Qi stood quietly on the rooftop of the Cloud Network building, listening to the bells ringing from the Rose Castle, feeling the breeze blowing from the blue sea...
Now, the entire virtual world lay at his feet.
Yet, in this vast and empty world, he felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness.
He had no lover, no family, no friends...
His heart felt empty.
A gentle breeze caressed his cheek, and he couldn't help but blink, letting his tears flow freely.
The days that followed, he stayed in the Reincarnation Hell, continuously repairing the dungeons, fixing all the rules within them.
To make himself forget the passage of time, he worked non-stop, furiously advancing the progress of the dungeons, developing all the content that Yuanzhou had left behind, both the already developed and the undeveloped parts, to their extreme limits.
After a year, the restoration progress of the Sinful Game world reached 10%.
Another year passed, and the restoration progress of the Sinful Game world reached 30%.
Another year passed, and the restoration progress of the Sinful Game world reached 60%.
After a long, long time, Xia Qi finally created a mechanism to accelerate time, advancing it by 20 years.
Eventually, he mastered all the abilities Yuanzhou had once wielded, including the ability to reverse the Sinful Game back to a certain point in time.
This was made possible through game save files.
The Sinful Game was connected to the real world, and loading a save file from the Sinful Game would return you to the corresponding point in time.
When Yuanzhou developed the cloud gaming community, the game had started automatically saving.
Back then, Yuanzhou used this method to bring his grandmother into the game from the world just before her passing.
From Yuanzhou's final words, Xia Qi understood the true meaning behind "leaving my love with you."
Yuanzhou left his love for him, which meant leaving him all the choices.
Whether Xia Qi chose to return to the real world or find another lover to live with, he would have no regrets.
Outside the small town hospital, Cha Gong stealthily closed the door of the room behind him and walked to a corner of the corridor to answer a call from Lin Mo.
"How is Xia Qi? Is his leg getting better?" Lin Mo's low voice came through the phone.
"It's getting better," Cha Gong responded honestly, "but Director Lin, Xia Qi's side effects are quite severe. He's looking more and more dazed... Can we stop letting people extract his memories? I'm worried it will cause problems for his health."
Ever since Cha Gong sent Xia Qi to the hospital, Lin Mo had been sending people every few days to use a brainwave instrument to extract Xia Qi's memories.
The side effects of the memory extraction were severe, leaving Xia Qi emotionally distant and cold. Now, Xia Qi regarded his savior with a calm, almost indifferent gaze, as if nothing could rattle him.
If the doctors kept extracting his memories, Cha Gong feared he wouldn't complete his mission before Xia Qi became a vegetable.
"……"
After listening to Cha Gong's report on Xia Qi's condition, Lin Mo fell silent on the other end of the phone.
If it weren't for the instinctive hostility Xia Qi harbored against him, he would never have assigned the task of winning Xia Qi over to Cha Gong.
Even though Xia Qi had forgotten everything, he still harbored such intense hatred that Lin Mo couldn't exploit any emotional vulnerability.
After a long while, Lin Mo sighed and said, "I'll consider it."
After hanging up the phone, Cha Gong shook his head, opened the door to the ward, and walked to a sofa near Xia Qi's bed.
He pulled out a white USB drive from his pocket and plugged it into his brain-computer interface, preparing to investigate Xia Qi's secrets.
This USB drive was specially kept aside; even Lin Mo didn't know about it.
The internet speed in the hospital was fast, and as soon as the USB drive was plugged in, a progress bar flashed quickly on the screen.
"Progress: 100%"
"Archive upload successful!"
Cha Gong couldn't help but poke the keyboard, only to find that the screen didn't respond. "Is it a virus? No way..."
As he puzzled over it, Xia Qi's fingers twitched on the bed.
"Hmm."
The sharp scent of disinfectant filled Xia Qi's nostrils as he slowly blinked his eyes open.
The ceiling was the same stark white as always. He turned his head and, unsurprisingly, saw Cha Gong sitting nearby.
Cha Gong heard the movement and looked over.
The current Cha Gong was still the Cha Gong from three years ago, wearing a washed-out suit with the legs of the suit pants flashily rolled up.
They locked eyes for a moment before Cha Gong broke the silence with a grin. "Xia Qi, you're awake? How do you feel?"
"I'm fine." Xia Qi looked at him coldly and responded.
"Did you remember anything?" Seeing Xia Qi's unusually normal behavior, Cha Gong was startled. "Do you remember who you are?"
Xia Qi had just been extracted the day before, and according to common sense, his first words upon waking should have been "Who am I?" or "Where am I?" But this time, Xia Qi's eyes looked especially clear, not at all like someone who had just lost their memories.
"Hmm?"
Xia Qi had just finished reviewing the initial data from the USB drive and his body was still a little uncomfortable. He carefully recalled the conversation between him and Cha Gong, and pretended to say, "Who am I? Can we chat?"
Seeing that Xia Qi had returned to his usual state, Cha Gong patiently explained his background to him.
In Cha Gong's version of the story, Xia Qi was an ordinary college student. He and Cha Gong attended the same university and major. They were classmates and "lovers."
Desperate for money, Xia Qi took on illegal jobs, which led to him being wanted by the police and losing his legal status.
Listening to Cha Gong's blabbering, a bitter smile curled at the corners of Xia Qi's mouth. Of course he had become unregistered; everything about him had been erased by Lin Mo.
In the previous timeline, he had checked his background and, as expected, he had been erased from all records.
"…Thank you for telling me so much, and thank you for saving me." Xia Qi lifted his eyelids and smirked. "I'm a bit hungry. Can you get me something to eat downstairs?"
Xia Qi rarely smiled, and Cha Gong had never seen it before.
Caught off guard by Xia Qi's smile, Cha Gong was momentarily dazed, his eyes fixed. He forgot to pull out the USB drive from the lightpad and hurriedly stood up. "Yes, yes, yes! I'll buy everything for you!"
After saying that, Cha Gong left the ward lightly, obediently going downstairs to buy food for him.
Once Cha Gong's footsteps disappeared in the corridor, Xia Qi yanked the IV out of his arm and climbed down from the hospital bed.
As he put on his shoes, he controlled the commands of the *Sinful Game* and said, "Retrieve hospital map data."
The *Sinful Game* had returned with him. Now, all he needed was to command the game to retrieve information about the current world.
Next, Xia Qi supported himself against the wall, hopping on his injured left leg towards the balcony with the help of a crutch left by the hospital staff.
With the crutch, his movements became much easier.
He went to the light computer Cha Gong had left behind and pulled out the USB drive that Cha Gong had forgotten.
The *Sinful Game* had already generated the map. Xia Qi read the map in his mind and selected the best escape route, making his way from the third floor to the underground parking lot.
He randomly chose a self-driving car and had the game crack the car's password.
Xia Qi climbed into the driver's seat of the self-driving car and continued giving instructions to the system. "Take me to the base ruins."
In this save file, he had been lying in the hospital for nearly 15 days. Now, he needed to return to the base to check if Yuanzhou's destroyed body parts were still there.
By now, Xia Qi had figured out the entire sequence of Yuanzhou's resurrection in the previous timeline.
When Yuanzhou had given him the USB drive, it contained not only evidence of the Lin clan's crimes but also a backup of his own cloud brain.
After Xia Qi left with the USB drive, he used a special channel from his *secret phone* to upload 50% of Yuanzhou's cloud brain. Later, the USB drive ended up in Cha Gong's hands, who, in this hospital, uploaded the remaining 50% of Yuanzhou's cloud brain to the network, allowing Yuanzhou's cloud brain to escape completely.
Since then, Yuanzhou had slowly begun to repair himself, retrieving pieces of his heart from the base ruins and eventually reclaiming the *Sinful Game*.
During the repair process, Yuanzhou hadn't come looking for him because Lin Mo had always sent Cha Gong to monitor him. It wasn't until the *Sinful Game* was fully established that he was pulled into the game…
The self-driving car began to move, and Xia Qi leaned his head against the seat cushion, closing his eyes to rest.
"Thud."
The self-driving car drove for a while, but just as it was about to reach the hospital entrance, it suddenly braked sharply and stopped.
He hadn't given any instructions. Why had the car stopped?
"What's going on?"
Xia Qi suddenly opened his eyes, and at that very moment, a tall man in a white protective suit pulled open the passenger door and sat down.
The door slammed shut, and a faint scent of roses filled the car.
Xia Qi was startled and turned his head, meeting a pair of icy blue eyes.
The man had short silver hair with a curl similar to his at the temple. He had a smirk on his face, a look that was both infuriating and disarmingly innocent.
Upon seeing the familiar face of the person he had longed for day and night, Xia Qi was instantly stunned.
“……”
He parted his lips slightly but remained frozen in shock for what felt like an eternity.
Yuanzhou stretched out his hand, passed it behind Xia Qi's neck, and pulled him towards himself. Xia Qi tilted sideways and rested his head in the crook of Yuanzhou's neck.
The man above him chuckled softly, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Qi, I'm back."
His tone was so familiar, as if they had only been apart for a short while, not 23 years.
"How did you come back?" Hearing Yuanzhou's familiar voice, Xia Qi pulled away from his embrace and looked up at him, still dazed.
He stared at him without blinking, scrutinizing every detail from head to toe, as if trying to confirm that this wasn’t just a dream.
Yuanzhou gently took his hand and smiled. "Of course, you brought me back, silly."
"Did I bring you back?" Xia Qi frowned, confused.
"That's right." Yuanzhou nodded and smiled, planting a kiss on the back of his hand. "Don't you remember? You couldn't bear to be apart from me, so you brought me back to stay by your side."
Xia Qi stared at him, his mind racing. Could it be that a future version of himself had repaired Yuanzhou and sent him back?
As he gazed into Yuanzhou's eyes, Xia Qi's thoughts wandered back to the past.
He remembered the moment when he named Yuanzhou inside the cold little orb.
"Since your code name is Z, your name shall be 'Yuanzhou.'"
"Yuanzhou represents the vastness of time, encompassing all of ancient and modern history."
"Water flows, yet its source remains in the sea; the moon may set, but it never truly leaves the sky. Just as 'Yuan' signifies the beginning, the origin of all things, it shares the same meaning as my name 'Qi.'"
……
The name "Yuanzhou" was Xia Qi's deepest wish, a hope that Yuanzhou would live on forever, as timeless as the universe itself.
Now, his wish had come true. Yuanzhou had become time itself.
In the distant future, they would be together forever.
